Forty Five (7:45)
Thirty Three & A Third (6:25)
Nine (6:27)
Review: The OdD Music crew are back with more of that off-kilter, subtly freaked up house music shuffle to make your bones shake. This sixth release on the label has everything any minimal head craves, not least on opening jam "Forty Five" with its nervy piano licking away underneath a heavy filter while the groove rolls on incessantly. "Thirty Three & A Third" takes a different approach, dropping some deft broken beats into the mix and letting some spaced out synth wobbles ping the track into a curious new orbit. "Nine" finishes the EP off with some immersive percussive tones that call to mind ritualistic dancing and transcendental experience, just like all good party music should.

Rainbow Perch (Emile Strunz remix)
Review: US label Wonder Stories follow up strong turns from Macaulay, Joe Morris and Jac The Disco with this hemisphere-spanning collaboration between Aussie producer Dawn Again and UK stalwart Rothmans. The mood on the record is squarely aimed at psychedelic strains of house music for adventurous, smooth grooving souls, whether it's the originals or the remixes you came for. "Timeless Odyssey" matches fuzzy bass with swirling pads and peppy rhythms, which Timothy J Fairplay dutifully jacks up with a wavey sensibility and plenty of dancefloor heft. "Rainbow Perch" is a synth-rich party ballad loaded with heart to match its infectious grooves. Emile Strunz delivers a remix that builds on the original's yearning qualities with a journeying spirit that would make for some great outdoors listening / partying.

Missing Us
Missing Us (dub)
Review: Marking the start of an exciting new collaborative project, Wolf + Lamb proudly share the debut release of The Waves & Us. Formed out of
a creative meeting of minds between Maayan Nidam, Markus Nikolaus and Louis McGuire, theirs is a sound that strengthens the storied
approach of a live band with the experimental thrust of analogue electronics. Pop and rock fundamentals lend an earthly hook to the
tracks, but these are anything but straight-forward songs.
Maayan has already forged a formidable career in electronic music, both under her own name and as part of Mara Trax, scoring releases
on such celebrated labels as Perlon. Markus performs his own solo project Cunt Cunt Chanel, while Louis is part of Ballet School, a band
releasing on noted indie label Bella Union. The whirlwind of creativity that has whipped up around the trio has yielded an album which will
follow this single, made up of one-take recordings that capture the energy and adventure that powers The Waves & Us.
Maayan's electronics provide the atmospheric backdrop to the songs, running modular synthesisers and drum machines through detailed
chains of processing and effects with an emphasis on a warm, charmingly rough finish. Markus' guitar undergoes a similar fuzzy treatment
while his voice calls out introspective, abstract lyrics to set the mind racing. Louis' bass underpins the music with a dubby sensibility,
bringing a necessary balance to the frequency range.
Making the most of their in-the-room recording approach, the singles will feature alternative takes of the songs that will appear on the
album, providing a little insight into the flutters and fluctuations that shape the development of this project. With their eyes fixed on live
performances and an arresting sound already formed, this is a vital time for all three artists and the people that listen to them.

Review: 16 Bit Lolitas with their debut release for Shinichi. "Sedna" combines crisp beats, wandering, filtered keys, and a grooving bassline, with subtle delays, for some solid progressive house action. On the flipside, "Puppet Show" goes for the more grinding approach to proggy house, with gritty synths, throbbing bass, and driving peaktime beats, leaving the main room crowds more than contented.

DJ Chalice - "Raise Ya Chalice" (3:40)
Review: Chow Down serves up its second release with the adventurous grime exploits of Fallow and DJ Chalice, twisting out all kinds of audacious bass shapes that would set the dance alight at parties such as Boxed. Fallow takes the A side with confidence, fresh from a release on Blood Frenzy, and "Blitz" shows the emergent producer is taking no prisoners with a hail of bullets and haunting Indian classical samples. "Northern Don" is a more wobbly synth-rich beat, while "Operation Dark Fruit VIP" amps up the grime strings. DJ Chalice has a lighter touch, bringing in some sunnier melodics and embracing the RnB influences on "Artois Anthem".

Review: Emotional Rescue make no attempt to hide their love of classic 80s cutters Razormaid's remixes, and on this occasion they're shining a light on the pumped up dancefloor versions of cult Canadian synthwave concern Psyche. The "US Club Mix" of "Eternal" is a perfect, swooning synth pop belter with weight in all the right places to work on the floor. "Prisoner To Desire (Alcatraz Mix)" is a snarling stomper that almost touches on acidic synth lines underneath the impassioned vocals, and then an exclusive re-edit of "Unveiling The Secret" ups the tempo while letting the catchy pop edge to Psyche's sound shine through. The record finishes with the fevered intensity of Joseph Watt's extended mix of "Ecstasy".

Review: Icelandic techno veteran Yagya enjoys a release on X/OZ that celebrates both new and old material. The tempo is noticeably ramped up on "One Weak Light" but never at the expense of that dark and mysterious Icelandic hue. "Existence Is Weird" is no slouch either, but Yagya shapes out his atmospheres with such a refined touch that you barely notice how quick the tracks are running. "A Very Long Daydream" is a gorgeous ambient track dug out of the archives, while "Getting Closer To An Unknown Goal" sees the re-release of a track Yagya released as Rhythm Of Snow back in 1999.

Review: A new project based out of Copenhagen - Aether's Spring comes shrouded in mystery but makes a bold statement with this first transmission. WATER: Dancing Moon 12" leads in with "House In Blue Rain," a downcast track bathed in melancholic pads and blown out percussion around a steady 4/4 tick. "Dancing Moon" is a more kinetic affair that works with all kinds of synth shapes alongside some primal drum machine percussion that lends the track a new wave quality that suits it just fine. Closer "Throne Of Clay" spreads across the B side in a brooding, journeying epic fit for the likes of classic James Holden or a more wave-minded Jon Hopkins.

Review: Poland's Father And Son Records And Tapes presents its probably most adventurous release, four outer space excursions by DJ Sajko. Plock-based Pawel Bartnik is a musician and sound engineer, releasing solo or as a member of kIRk trio, one of the most forward-thinking contemporary Polish bands. Here he presents his highly unique blend of slow motion techno, dub, industrial music, folk, jazz and field recordings. From twisted psychedelic bangers for the late night raves through Eastern-flavoured operatic vocals to clicks and scratches from the deepest bowels of the Earth, "cutman" lands somewhere between precise, conceptual structures and free, open-minded improvisation. Different, fascinating and impressive.

Wars Of Truth (Reseen)
Review: Meanwhile returns having celebrated its 10 Year Anniversary, not by releasing a swanky box set, but by taking a year off. First release on the fully rejuvenated meanwhile is from Sen AKA John Shern who forms part of the Satellite Religion collective along with G.r.i.t, Future Thought Tapestries, Channel 73 and Space_ci. Here he delivers 25 minutes of deepest machine music spread over 2 tracks. A side Future Thoughts Jazz is a deep drifting Detroit infused journey through the far reaches of outer space, while the B Side Wars of Truth(reseen) is an epic slice of heavy clanking industrial rhythms and deep textures. The release is also the first to feature artwork commissioned by sometime Meanwhile recording artist Samuel Van Dijk aka Mohlao, Inward Content, VC118a, Multicast Dynamics. So, both sonically and visually this release sits perfectly within the meanwhile catalogue of quality not quantity.

Review: Ali Renault's techno bludgeon instrument Vivod gets another notch in its handlebar with this appearance from new Glaswegian venture UNI.OMNI. It's rasping, rabid stuff with distortion and noise in abundance, but these wild elements are actually wielded with a firm grip on opening beast "Acceptance Resistance". "Metaphysical Lives" meanwhile channels some wave influences while keeping up the sense of foreboding, "Sequential Self" gets into a death disco spiral complete with beyond the grave vocals and "Viral Dread" goes even further into the graveyard while keeping the stiff dancefloor pressure dial turned up to 11.

Review: Tomas More's December alias has gone from strength to strength, kicking off on Blackest Ever Black, Where To Now? and In Paradisum only to hop on to Mannequin and Jealous God before landing here on Helena Hauff's Return To Disorder label. On the basis of that CV, you should know full well that this is an artist who favours dark, deviant dance music with a generous lashing of industrial, EBM and electro, and he doesn't disappoint. "64 Ways To Rob A Friend" is a freaky but utterly fun romp laced with ghoulish vocals and underpinned by a driving one-note bassline. "90 Feelings" is more malevolent, channeling the spirit of Ministry and reducing it down to a death march, while the live mix of "A Place To Live" comes on with a New Beat ferocity that's hard to resist.

Review: We've not been able to get to the bottom of who Kenny Burns is (or at least this one - there was a famous Nottingham Forest footballer of the same name in the dim and distant past), and 89: Ghost main man Neil Tolliday is keeping tight-lipped. Either way, this label debut from the man of mystery includes some genuinely impressive moments. Picturesque closer 'Crease', where dreamy chords and kaleidoscopic synth sounds rise and fall atop an unfussy dancefloor beat, reminded us of Nail's own 1993 cut 'Cassiopeia', while 'Crank' is a thrusting slab of early morning techno peppered with squelchy acid motifs, chiming electronics and loopy, mind-mangling riffs. Elsewhere, 'Croak' is an angular slab of warped techno intensity, and opener 'Creak' is a hypnotic neo-trance number.

Review: Proving it's still not safe to hit the streets of Melbourne after dark, Power Cuts are at it again with even more dodgy dealings from shady punks with drum machines and synthesisers. Siaubaus' "Haunted White Paper" is as schlocky a slice of wave-esque 80s beatdown as you could ever wish for, while label boss Kris Baha offers up a particularly crusty vision of acid house. On the B side, Disrute edges towards an industrial, new beat tinted workout that's all about the rasping drum hits above all else. Dane//Close finish the EP off with "ForJorge", an angular, mechanical piece with hidden depths folded into the production.

Review: Croatian mainstay Ilija Rudman had a productive 2016 thanks to turns on Chit Chat, Burek and Double Deer, and he turns to his own Imogen Recordings to kick off the new year with a brooding, drum-focused hit of oddball house music for the trippy, paranoid end of the night. The "Presence Deep Dub" mix of "In Her Eyes" is a multi-faceted jam, using high-end processing matched with organic, instinctive percussion to make for the kind of workout that will inspire all manner of curious reactions from the floor. It's a track more than strong enough to stand proud as a one-sided 12", with the crossover appeal to land in a whole host of different bags.

Review: Cocktail d'Amore Music returns from a short hiatus with a new release from Russian producer TMO. The three tracks are tied together by a propensity for heavy rhythm construction and distorted acid lines, executed to great effect. Opening with "Last Moment Jam" , a searing main room projectile, TMO presents what is heavily inspired by early Chicago acid track. For those looking for something on the trippier end, "Drums Jam" provides a low bpm hallucination full of delays. Closing is, "Buchla 909 Jam", a 10 minute slow burn exercise in analog fundamentals for late night fantasies.

Review: Having just made a splash with a 12" of adventurous leftfield techno, Intercepts simultaneously emerges as an inventive force in the field of electro too. Again, we get three shadowy producers stepping out at a mean clip, with 'Track 1' running faster than average and revelling in razor sharp edits that split the difference between braindance, d&b and machine funk and come up with dark, sinewy gold. 'Track 2' eschews the kicks and works a few more melodic elements into the mix for a starry-eyed piece with an underlying spookiness. Then 'Track 3' locks into something much more upfront with a chunky lead hook and satisfyingly dirty drums. There's serious flex in the synth work here, suggesting someone that may have been honing their craft for some time already. Electro heads take note - this is something different.

'Nightlyfe' best illustrates this with its rough hats, minor chords and irrepressible rhythm. 'Body Forms' is a nod back to the hydraulic, locked funk of Quaid's previous releases, whilst 'Tango' offers Huerco S style synths under subverted Prince Housequake-era drums.A'99%' weaves around a driving bass algorithm and the insistent vocal refrain supplied by longtime collaborator Dziko.A. With some incredibly funky and feelgood mixes from Crazy P, Basement Freaks and Smoove himself, Beggarman's uplifting call to party has never been more relevant. Already notching up plays with Radio 6's Craig Charles, and starting to pick up plays for the band's first video; Beggarman, Smoove & Turrell's retro right-now energy is infectious. Beggarman's original story-telling, 60s soul-talking vibe kicks back with some great horns and yeah yeah refrains. Crazy P turn up the wah wah power with a shimmering 70s influenced ride that strips back the vocals and creates a stone-cold groove workout, complete with 80s disco keys, perucssion and dubby fx. Smoove's remix goes back to early sampling days with its funky melange of breaks, beats and a big chorus that lifts into a really swinging set. Rounding things off the Basement Freaks keep the phat funk flowing with their rippling jam. Out now on Jalapeno.

The latest transmission on the dusty house imprint comes from STL, whose disheveled sounds is a natural fit for what has come before on Blundar. "Track 1" peers through a thick haze of smoke, exhaling pads and drones and keeping the bass pulsing throughout. The rest of the EP is given over to experimental and ambient tones, with the second track on Side B being an especially arresting piece loaded with melancholic contemplation. It's another strong addition to the Blundar repertoire, and another example of STL's skills and adaptability in the studio.

This debut EP was reportedly co-produced by Afriqua, who have been previously spotted on R&S as well as Dream Diary. "Soul To Skin" opens the EP in a mellow fog of ambient synths and arresting vocals that sound reminiscent of Stevie Nicks. That echo is confirmed on track two, a sultry cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" that will no doubt draw plenty of attention in the band's direction. "Whisper" taps up a little of James Blake's crooked blue-eyed soul, and watch out for long time tech house producer Inxec popping up to remix "Soul To Skin."

Review: "Two Guys And A Dog", on Still Music, is the new release from Markus Enochson. "No, Only In Sweden" illustrates Markus Enochson's new journey in sound, being more techy than his previous productions. For the flip Markus Enochson invited fellow Swede The Subliminal Kid. His "Chord Song" represents the new wave of house music that is close to techno territory.

Where You Should Be (Shy FX remix)
Review: Tempa drop another single from Skream's 2010 all conquering Outside The Box album in the shape of the awesome "Where You Should Be". Whilst the track features the vocal talents of Sam Frank, they are so heavily subjected to vocoder that his lyrics meld into the spiralling array of keyboard hooks and twilight tinged arpeggiated synth lines - with suitably woozy results. On the flip Digital Soundboy boss and all round legend Shy FX drops a killer remix which starts with the Mtume "Juicy" riddim before switching to more familiar rolling junglist pressure ably assisted by some sweet additional female vocals. Watch out for that half time drop! Also look out for a second all remix twelve with a suitably heavyweight line up.

Review: Over the last few years Methlab have secured a highly respected position in drum & bass as a management company, event promoter and hub for all things techy and uncompromised. Here we find them hooking up with Vegas's Bad Taste imprint for a series of on-point, club-focused 12"s featuring some of the most exciting names in the neuro movement. Highlights include the ghostly vocal cries on MachineCode's "Evacuation" and the fuzzy distorted grit of Signs' "Less Is More". The Methlab takeover continues...
