Machines Of May (7:25)
Gadget (7:21)
Dark As Night (7:43)
Swiss (6:26)
Review: Since returning to action in 2016 after a seven-year break, 1990s techno survivor Lee Renacre AKA 100 Hz has released some of the best music of his career. This fine four-tracker marks the long-serving Londoner's first outing on Romanian imprint Amphia, who are best known for serving up sparse, minimalistic tech-house. As you'd expect, there's a slightly fuller sound here, though sonically it's as pleasingly druggy and mind-mangling as much of the imprint's output. Renacre brilliantly flits between trippy, arpeggio-driven, house-tempo techno (the otherworldly 'Machines of May'), dubstep-influenced UK bass/techno fusion ('Gadget', which echoes the ethos of his early 100 Hz releases with James Chapman), intergalactic tech-house ('Dark as Night'), and frankly filthy low-end wobblers ('Swiss').

Catch Your Ear (6:44)
Meringueatang (7:12)
Review: A Trifle Too Far, the collaboration between Essex natives Simon Ward and Tony Grimley, crafted this forward-thinking duo of tracks, inspired by their explorations of the acid house scene and rave culture. Catch Your Ear and Meringueatang embody the innovative spirit of early 90s prog-house. Engineered by Evren Omer of Strategy Records and Matt Clayden of X-Gate Records, respectively, these tracks remain a rare and exhilarating find. Mint Condition is reviving the essence of classic house and techno with their latest reissue: the elusive 1992 EP 'Catch Your Ear/Meringueatang' from A Trifle Too Far. This release is a thrilling addition for collectors and DJs, rekindling the excitement of a bygone era.

Piano Sunset (4:32)
Lost In Palms (4:55)
Review: The diffuse hues and retro-feeling colours of the artwork on this new 45rpm from Star Creature perfectly embody the downtempo and Balearic sounds within. They come from A Vision Of Panorama who seems to ever more have the dance floor in sights over his last few releases. That's not to say these are banging tunes - but they do have lovely grooves. 'Piano Sunset' is a real spine tingler with 80s keys and mid tempo drums that come alive with crisp hits and a fresh bassline. 'Lost In Palms' then has a shuffling and low slung groove with nice wet hits. Add in some more lush chords and you have a real pearler.

Swathe (6:04)
Review: A1 Bassline man Christian Viers stepped up to deliver a debut album earlier this year in the shape of Technicality, issued through Shadow Child and Kry Wolf's Food Music and a fine addition to his discography following several years' worth of 12" releases. Those fans of vinyl clamouring for cuts from the album in a physical format will be heartened to see four highlights gathered here on a belated 12" addendum. It's full on club tackle from the off, with "Odd Soulz" shuffling drums, resonant lead synth and killer 808 hats an obvious track to include on this 12". "Reinforced Texture" is possibly a homage to the iconic breakbeat crew Reinforced Records, and a fine one at that, whilst Viers's undeniable production diversity is apparent on the B side that swings from a classic house flavour to some sweet acid.

How U Do It
Review: Prescription and Guidance mainstay Abacus has already done enough to assure his eternal legacy in the story of deep house. But thankfully he is still turning out superbly deep sounds that are as profound and emotive as they are heady and escapist. Here he is back on Phonogramme with 'Analogue Stories Vol. 2' which comes on a unique semi-transparent 12'' vinyl. The beats are warm and humid, thickly coated with a diffuse synth hue as the rooted drums roll on smoothly. 'How U Do It' is out pick - a musical odyssey with layers of instrumentation, piano and percussion all topped off with a Moodyman vocal sample.

Review: Rawbeats offer up yet another addition to their sub-catalogue Extrasensorial, which aims to, in their words, "soothe your soul and ignite your senses". While that might sound contradictory to the point of impossible, the label prove this to be not so. First up on the witness stand comes Stefano Adriezzi with 'Sintomas', whose centrally choppy Reese-scape both excites and incites the listener, causing vestigial reflexes to move either voluntarily or involuntarily. Then Lo-lo's 'The Last Domain' and Anna Wall's 'Mercury Retrograde' do similar, the former's mistral melodic trance and the latter's more rancorous murk-offs offering up convincing ancillary proofs to Adriezzi's initial sonic testimony. Finally, though, Dream World's 'Alice Ghost' delivers the smoking gun of Rawbeats' soothing excitement; snippy electro, whorlingly high up-down pads and sampled musings on a mystical higher power, building to a minimal but effectively purgatory sequential cascade.

Review: 'Disco Tape', which launched via a must-check 12" back in August 2023, os Sound Exhibitions' multi-artist EP series. This second volume is a similarly action-packed affair that gleefully blurs the boundaries between reworks, re-edits and sample-heavy original productions. Alexny kicks things off with two sun-soaked treats - the percussive and warming tropical disco tribute 'Caribbean Breeze' and the sax solo-sporting dancefloor shuffle of 'Bada Boom' - before Paride Pavone rounds off side A with the jazzy disco-house celebration of 'In Key'. Phil Disco impresses on side B with two killer cuts (the funky bass-propelled disco heaviness of 'Never Gonna Leave You' and the swirling jazz-funk-house bump of 'Disco Ipno', while disco-funk specialist C Da Afro rounds things off in fine style via the insatiable grooves and fluttering flute solos of 'The Choice'.

Stay Another Day (7:02)
Naked Truth (6:19)
Review: French producer Anaxander follows up great releases by legends Reggie Dokes and Kai Alce on new imprint People Of Earth. He's had a steady output in the last few years releasing on the likes of Local Talk, Dame Music and Tasteful Nudes to name but a few. "Chords & Theories" is delightfully dusty deep house with a swing fuelled rhythm, emotive chords and epic piano stabs. On the flip "Stay Another Day" is the kind of classic early 90's Chicago deep house that's so sincere you could have sworn it was a lost tape from the Prescription or Alleviated catalogue from way back when. Finally "Naked Truth" gets a bit more uptempo on this soulful deep techno jam with rich synth tapestries and syncopated rhythms. Tip!

Review: Rawax welcomes ARAPU for a third release on the label and this time the minimal maestro taps into open-air dancing vibes with a nice organic and summery sound, but still plenty of direct grooves. 'Take It Deep Down' has dreamy vocal coos swirling up top next to soft synth patterns as the percussive beats drive down low. On the flip, 'The After' is a deep cut with rubbery, thudding kicks and organic percussion next to more smart vocal sounds that bring human emotions to the moving beats.

Review: Cabinet is a label that has already got a fine reputation and that has been well-deserved for its work over the years. Now it offers up a new EP from a new project by long-time friends and early Cabinet members Daniel Paul and DJ Trike. They are calling themselves Bass Cab and their vibe is, going off this first EP, classic early 90s analogue techno with live dub versions. 'G2' is a silky and frictionless dub that is as smooth as glass and perfect to get lost in. 'Lofi' has dusty deep house aesthetics with a lovely muted lead synth that voyages at its own pace through the cosmos. 'Dub Chords' brings a mix of twitchy synths, reverb, bouncing drums and rubbery bass.

Review: There is a great combination of the classic and the contemporary on this new Disco Disco 12". 'Paradise' is both deep yet moving, a warm tune with cuddly drums but retro chords that bring the energy. 'Latino' has shimmering hand claps and sensuous vocals with hulking great kicks that are full of promise. 'It Was Just A Dream' pairs vocoder vocals with glistening synth details and another enthralling and heavyweight house groove and 'RUFF Menace' then taps into 80s synth sounds with its stomping beats and deadpan vocals brought to life with celebratory synth chords.

Review: Nicholas Bicycle aka Nick Bike hops on some fine rhythms once more here for the Chosen Spokes label. As always he deals only in pure gold and this time he reworks a classic 80s gem into two different versions. Already well road-tested by the likes of DJ Marky in Brazil to great results, this 7" is pure bait for summer sessions. 'Ain't Shocka' is the first version with chattery claps and plenty of the original vocals and melodies left in place over funk drums. 'Shocka King' gives it a much brighter make over with melodies shipped in from another 80s disco gem by Evelyn "Champagne" King to make it even more irresistible.

Review: Techno sorcerer Stephan Bodzin returns with his latest LP. In the last year, he glanced over unfinished material in his musical archive, and while spending time in Brazil, he selected 17 favourites and completed them to present on this album titled Boavista. With the aim of painting 'musical pictures that conjure up very real emotions in the listener', it features the typical style of dancefloor drama you have come to expect from the German producer such as the saucer-eyed epic 'Lil', or the strobe-lit rush of 'Astronautin' to the oncoming sunset euphoria of 'Nothing Like You' (feat Luna Semara) and the bittersweet affair River' towards the end.

Review: Atlanta's Chris Brann has always been most readily associated with his trailblazing work in Wamdue Kids, but he's always done much more besides. As a solo artist he first struck out in the mid-late 90s on the likes of Peacefrog, Acacia and Guidance, which tells you plenty about the quality of deep house he's responsible for. Studies In Form originally hails from that period, out in 1997 on Woody McBride's Sensuist label. These tracks sound evergreen, steeped in the warm musicality of the era, with plenty of oomph to get a floor moving but ultimately loungey in their demeanour. This is grade A classic US deep house from a seasoned pro, now lovingly reissued for your pleasure.

Review: Colin Curtis - an early purveyor of rare groove and jazzdance whose credo rings far and wide - has been helming his own label of originals for some time now. Presently focusing on the best live-feel broken beat, house and jazz in his orbit, his latest curation, Cengiz and Ishfaq's 'Vibrations', is no break from this general rule. Each artist helming one side respectively, Cengiz' 'Motf' and its remix work a steadily built progression around faint jeers, metallic percs, filterpassed tom fills and space-age risers, the latter of which is much more skeletal than the former; while Ishfaq's 'Wonderjazz' moves impressively somewhere in the lost interregnum between speed garage and techfunk.

Kerri Chandler has been described quite correctly as "the Stevie Wonder of house music." What he brought to the world of deep house was real musicality, as well as hefty, signature kicks that have a seemingly impossible amount of weight and bounce, but also funk. He is back with a first album in years later on in 2022 but first he is teasing us all with plenty of samplers from it. We get two more tunes here - the first 'Never Thought' with those trademark kicks, a nice vocal and some peak time tech energy. 'Get Lost In It' is a more soulful tune with big diva vocals and raw, stripped back beats.

Review: The Rangi Club EP by Chasse offers four genuine house tracks that showcase the essence side of deeper dance music. Side-1 opens with 'It's Alright,' a track that lays down a solid house groove. With its deeper vibe and strong vocal delivery, it sets the perfect mood for a night on the dancefloor. 'Purple Street' follows, bringing smooth deep house sounds and a rhythm that's instantly catchy, making it hard not to move along. On Side-2, the title track 'Rangi Club' takes inspiration from Chicago house with its distinctive drum grooves. It's a workout for the dancefloor, designed to keep the energy high. The EP closes with 'Welcome,' a piano-led builder that gradually intensifies, offering a satisfying conclusion to this well-rounded collection. The Rangi Club EP provides four strong examples of tracks that will elevate any set.

First out of the blocks is 'Fallen Algorhythm' which offers a dynamic groove that melts a driving set of drums with ethereal synths. Cristi Cons's remix of it amplifies the energy levels with a pulsating bassline and slicing percussion that veers on a rave anthem and 'The Other One Follows' brings a rolling bassline and sharp percussion that you might hear at somewhere like Sunwaves. Review: For the quarter-century release from Savor Music 025, a stellar lineup of remixers rework Franco Cinelli's Tracks from the Vault Part 2. DJ Jes delivers a trippy house reinterpretation of 'Tribute to Miles Davis' and blends jazz elements with a loose, groove-heavy vibe while preserving the original's spirit. Jorge Savoretti's remix of 'Electronic Funk' enhances the original's pulsing bassline and crisp percussion with added synth layers to create a deeper, more textured version that is great in its own right.

Since her debut in 2017, she's become a fixture in the city's vibrant club scene, holding residencies at BBCB: Beton Brut + Concrete Bar. On her first solo EP for the Jin Records label, Cosmo weaves a dreamy, ethereal sound that taps into the traditions of house and balearic music. The A-side opens with lush, flowing melodies that gently chug along, creating an atmosphere that feels both expansive and intimate. These tracks, with their atmospheric textures and hypnotic rhythms, encapsulate a sense of cosmic journeying. On the flip, Cosmo delves into grittier, more tech-focused territory. Here, the beats take on a harder edge, with driving rhythms and a rawness that pushes the energy forward. While maintaining the ethereal quality that runs throughout the EP, the B-side brings a sense of tension and release that's sure to resonate on dancefloors. With this release, Cosmo demonstrates her versatility, effortlessly blending contrasting styles while retaining a cohesive, signature sound. It's a confident, forward-thinking EP from a rising star, and one that signals even more exciting things to come from this talented producer.

Review: Cotonete are a genuinely unique proposition: an eight-piece French jazz-funk outfit who performed live for a decade before recording their first single in 2016. They've delivered a couple of great albums since, including this year's brilliant Victoire De La Musique. 'O Ceu E Preto', a Brazilian flavoured number, was one of the highlights of that album and here gets reworked for house dancefloors by French veteran DJ Deep and pals. On side A, he joins forces with fellow local legend Dimitri From Paris to deliver a chunky, bass-heavy vocal version that sits somewhere between Masters At Work's more Afro-house-infuenced efforts and Deep's own late-night dancefloor hypnotism. He explores the latter side of his musical personality further, alongside Romain Parcet, on a flipside dub that exquisitely deep, trippy and delay laden. It's a genuine triumph!

New York City native Darand Land is one of many dons of deep house to come from the Big Apple and its environs. He sits right at the top of the pile alongside the likes of Fred P for his smoky, low-lit basement sounds as he once again shows with this new EP on regular label Downbeat. Review: It is now a full decade since the Disclosure boys burst not the world sated with their Settle album. Not only is the artwork iconic, but the tunes too ushered in a new era of chart-friendly sounds and showed artists they needn't be afraid of popping their heads above the so-called underground. This special new version comes with all the original tunes, many of which were big hits for the duo, as well as bonus tracks. A full decade on they all sound as good as ever with the Surrey boys' production prowess still standing out. This one got platinum certification and topped the UK charts in its first week.

Review: Through a wide selection of releases on his own UnXpozd Entertainment, DJ Aakmael has truly established his place within the house scene, and his own sound, too. The man deals in a very specific sort of deep house filled with jazzy elements, much like the one championed by the likes of Fred P or Patrice Scott. Here, on the People Earth imprint, we are graced by the deep and chimerical synth work of "Izza" on the A-side, while "Untitled 116" on the back of the wax contains an air of disco, but one that's been warped and messed with good and proper; "Spreadsmoluv" is a heads-down house lover with an insanely hummable vocal flex. YES.

Review: DJ Deep's Connected EP on Gettraum from France is a refined collection of deep house tracks that beautifully explore emotion. On Side-1, 'Sunday Loop' stands out with its melodic and groovy elements, embodying the classy house sound DJ Deep is known for. 'Cable Guy' follows with a deep, immersive vibe that pulls you in with its rich layers while 'The Third Man' rounds off the side, delivering a strong, resonant track. Side-2 brings a fresh take with Traumer's edit of 'Sunday Loop,' which amplifies the energy with a stomping house beat and lush organ keys, adding a new dimension to the original. The version of 'The Third Man' strips the track down slightly, offering a more focused yet still powerful interpretation. Connected EP is a perfect example at melodic house music that resonates on multiple levels.

Review: Ou la la, here comes DJ Merci with another EP for which we should be thankful because it's a joyful one packed with feel-good house and disco sounds. 'Shake It' gets things underway with warm chords and cosmic synth work over 90s house beats. 'Sound Of One' offers lung-busting diva vocals and great piano work and 'Step Into My Life' then sinks into a more late night and seductive sound with a jazzy melodic overtone and laid-back beats. 'Rosemary' is the closer and one with another organic percussive sound and louche drums for smooth grooving.

Review: Winds from remote eastern lands swirl through Dorothy's Dream's latest offering, the 'Blue Bus' EP, a collection that immerses listeners in a realm of minimal mystery. The three original tracks weave hypnotic patterns reminiscent of ancient rituals, where the drums of liberation pulse steadily, drawing you into their rhythmic embrace. The opener, 'Devendra', sets the stage with its captivating groove, layering ethereal synths and whispering vocal snippets that create a trance-like atmosphere. The track unfolds gradually, building an intensity that captures the listener's imagination. Next, 'The Blue Bus' takes a more introspective approach, combining sparse instrumentation with a sense of longing. Its haunting melodies evoke a dreamlike state, inviting reflection and exploration of the inner self. 'Padang Padang' emerges as a standout, featuring rolling percussion that dances alongside shimmering textures, conjuring images of distant shores and forgotten ceremonies. Rounding off the EP, US-based producer Chklte delivers a remix of 'Arambol', infusing the original with punchy 909 drums that elevate the energy without losing the underlying mystique. The Blue Bus EP is a compelling exploration of sound, showcasing Dorothy's Dream's ability to create immersive sonic landscapes that resonate deeply, leaving listeners entranced long after the final notes fade.

Review: The people behind Japan's Edit & Dub series are understandably publicity-shy, while their periodic releases tend to appear without much fanfare or fuss. As usual, there's little info about the crew's latest single-sided missive, which has been pressed to a rather lovely slab of marbled purple vinyl. A-side 'Lovin' is a fine re-edit of an unnamed heavy disco stomper - all rubbery bass guitar, sweeping orchestration, twinkling pianos and dewy-eyed female lead vocals. Over on the flip the shadowy scalpel fiends take on Wanda's 1982 boogie classic 'I Must Be Dreamin', doing a terrific job of emphasizing the squelchy synth-bass, Evelyn 'Champagne' King style electronic squiggles (think 'I'm In Love') and razor-sharp disco guitars.

Review: Time to Play's latest release, "Midnight Love," marks a significant addition to their catalog, courtesy of Japan's DJ Dreamboy. The EP's title track is a masterclass in Japanese deep house, capturing a sound that's minimal yet intense, balanced yet dreamy. The choice of Brazilian producer Zopelar for a tough remix only underscores the track's impact and versatility. On the flip side, "Vibe" kicks off with a minute of atmospheric build-up, gradually exploding into a whirlwind of kicks and acid arpeggios. It's a journey from suspense to euphoria that's bound to ignite any dancefloor. Following suit is "Dream Town," which retains a softer, more contemplative edge, echoing the vibe of the title track while adding a layer of subtle sophistication. The EP wraps up with "My House Style," a high-octane trip through Tokyo's nocturnal landscape. It's a relentless romp featuring deep basslines, ethereal atmospheres and a rhythm that demands you keep moving. If you've ever dreamt of a non-stop dance odyssey, this track's your ticket. DJ Dreamboy's "Midnight Love" not only showcases their signature sound but also sets a new standard for modern deep house.

Review: James Priestley has always been known as one half of Secretsundaze but is now the sole artist working under that moniker after parting ways with Giles Smith. Here he branches out with a new label 9FINITY which takes its name from his young daughter's mispronunciation of 'infinity'. He says the name aims to capture the label's MO, which is to offer up "no-nonsense, discerning dance records from artists at the vanguard of modern club music." The first outing is a fine various artists collection with Eoin DJ's 'Red Rubber Roses' going deep yet driving, DJ Life twists melons with his cyborg house stomper, Luca Attanasio explores a futuristic tech house sound with a killer bassline, Coffintexts lays down filthy bass and Latinx club sounds and E-Talking cruises through the cosmos with some turbocharged prog-techno. Superb.

Review: German producer and singer Fancy began his career in German schlager music under the name Tess Teiges. He met Jimi Hendrix in 1967 and collaborated with Giorgio Moroder on demo tapes and by the mid-70s he was producing international hits with Claudia Field & Red Face. Fancy's breakthrough came in 1984 with the hit 'Slice Me Nice' ns he went on to achieve significant success in dance music, topping the Billboard Dance Chart three times and earning a "Top 10 of the Year" spot in 1985 with 'Chinese Eyes.'. This album on ZYX Records serves up some of his greatest hits and fine remixes making it an essential one-stop shop for fans old and new.

Review: Fred Again seems to be one of the most talked about artists of the year. Part of that centers around the astonishing Boiler Room set he served up, but also plenty of credit is due for the music he makes. A lot of that is summed up here on Actual Life 3, the third installment of his series after the previous two back in 2021 and recent collabs with the likes of Swedish House Mafia and Future. It shows off his mastery of a range of different sounds and scenes across 13 fun and fresh tunes that are backed with emotive beats and catchy hooks as well as some standout vocals.
