  1. Laying On The Sofa (Mark Kamins remix) (6:08)
  2. La Tete Contre Les Murs (Marc Moulin remix) (5:24)
Review: Some years back, Permanent Vacation dipped into the back catalogue of decidedly Balearic synth-pop trio Antenna before offering up a swathe of fresh remixes. Now Discomatin have decided to explore the solo discography of lead singer Isabelle Antena, serving up two rare contemporaneous remixes of 1987 singles by Mark Kamins and Marc Moulin respectively. The former's version of "Laying On The Sofa" is superb, with the Danceteria resident layering her fine lead vocals over delay laden electro beats, warm Rhodes chords, glistening guitars and elastic bass guitar. Moulin's body-popping, synth and drum-machine fired revision of "La Tete Contre Les Murs" is arguably even better and undeniably funkier. It goes without saying that both tracks are superb.

  1. Paradise's Love (Kon's remix) (7:25)
  2. Paradise's Love (Fantasy Love remix) (5:06)
  3. Paradise's Love (3:24)
Review: Those dusty-fingered boogie diggers with long "wants lists" should be familiar with "Paradise's Love", an obscure 1982 single from one-shot outfit Bordeaux that has been known to change hands online for hundreds of pounds a go. Here it gets the reissue treatment, with the colourful, Prince-goes-AOR disco style original version (track 3) being joined by two fresh remixes. The headline-grabbing treatment comes from KON, who beefs up the bottom end, makes much of the original's carnival-ready touches (whistles and so on), emphasizes the rubbery bassline and extends it to a dancefloor-friendly seven-and-a-half minutes. Equally as impressive is the Fantasy Love Remix, which instead chooses to up the tempo and push up the original version's P-funk sounds.

Crazy Gang (remastered) (hand-numbered transparent yellow vinyl 12" limited to 300 copies)
Cat: MD 31815. Rel: 27 May 20
  1. Every Sunday (5:24)
  2. Computerize (3:58)
  3. A Discomatic Rodeo (4:37)
  4. Telephone Computer (3:57)
Review: Formed by Carlo and Franco Bixio in the early 1980s, Crazy Gang was a tongue-in-cheek Italo-disco project whose rotating cast of members and guest musicians included the great (and prolific) Claudio Simonetti. This must-check EP offers up a quartet of cuts from the outfit's now hard-to-find 1983 debut album. There's plenty of rushing, wonderfully camp, arpeggio-driven Italo-disco on show - see the sparkling "Computerize", Bobby Orlando-esque "Every Sunday" (whose talkbox-tinged vocals are particularly memorable) and guitar solo-laden opener "Every Sunday" - though arguably the most potent cut of all expertly fuses electro and P-funk. Tucked away at the end of the EP, "A Discomatic Rodeo" is the kind of madcap, riff-laden '80s workout that would later inspire Daft Punk to create some of their most memorable cuts.

  4. Natasha Kitty Katt & Yam Who? - "Into Your Life" (feat Jacqui George) (6:25)
Review: A summer without plenty of lush disco would be like winter without a roaring fire: disappointing. Take It To The Church ensure that will never happen though with another of their red hot offerings. Bringing together a fine bunch of artist and edit masters they serve up deeply soulful disco on "Goin On" and more retro funk flavours on Yam Who? Remix of "Joy" which has some magnificent strings and call and response vocals. "Peace, Joy & Happiness" is pure musical goodness in a golden groove, then Natasha Kitty Katt & Yam Who? close out in rolling hands in the air fashion to make this another unmissable 12".

  3. Love Thang (original mix) (7:59)
  4. Love Thang (instrumental) (5:39)
Review: First Choice's era-defining disco funk anthem "Love Thang" gets dusted off by Salsoul. Timeless struts, silky bass flurries, huge orchestration and gutsy vocals; this still sounds spotless today. Complete with an acapella and instrumental, the real boon here is Kon's edit. If anyone is going to edit such a classic appropriately it's this guy; with a more mix-friendly, break and vocal focused intro, dynamic stripdowns and build ups and a big drum-focused pay-off, Kon reminds us how artful editing can be in the right hands... Again.

  3. C Da Afro - "Groove Definitio" (6:24)
  4. Alexny - "Take You Ther" (6:41)
Review: Russian label Moiss Music have spent the past couple of years building up a formidable catalogue of crucial disco house drops on digital, and now they're making their first move on wax with this slab of veritable party heaters. First up The Funk District bring the perfect blend of warm, organic funk and punchy club production for maximum impact. Munky Fike is brimming with positivity on "Oh Disco Baby", while C Da Afro rides the filters good and proper for the effervescent "Groove Definito". Alexny takes things deeper on "Take You Ther", but there's still plenty of space for classic disco licks in the mix.

Disco Rap (hand-stamped 7") (1 per customer)
Cat: 45L D. Rel: 28 May 20
  1. D (3:06)
  2. DD (5:01)
Review: Fresh from the release of his tribute to hip-hop culture's dancefloor roots, the essential "Disco Rap" single, DJ Moar returns to familiar territory with a guest-packed album of boom-bap beats, blink-and-you-miss-them skits, and deliciously deep rap songs. Moar's backing tracks ripple with warm and woozy instrumental flourishes and jazzy samples, while the accompanying raps, from MCs including Napoleon Da Legend, Dirt Platoon, Sadat X and LS Brigandes, are on-point and entertaining. Such is the all-round quality, in fact, that it sounds like a long-lost set from hip-hop's golden age.

  2. Sartorial - "Night Shade" (7:30)
  3. Conan Liquid Presents The Crates Motel Collective - "Gotta Scratch" (7:33)
  4. Igor Gonya - "Caprice Mood" (4:38)
Review: The Tropical Disco crew is back with more disco funk from all around the world. Moodena opens up with "Jezebel" with its big horn stabs and knotted bass riffs that will make you move and groove. Sartorial ups the sexy sax, pump the drums and get steamy on "Night Shade" before things take a more cool and breezy turn on the sliding and gliding grooves of Conan Liquid Presents The Crates Motel Collective's "Gotta Scratch". For those who like the big licks, stomping kicks and diva cries, Igor Gonya comes through with some gold to close things out.

  1. One Step Back, Two Steps Front (Mr K edit) (8:05)
  2. Funk It (Mr K edit) (6:40)
Review: Rejoice all serious disco edits heads, we have another batch of highly sought after treatments from the mighty Danny Krivit available here for your delectation. First up is "One Step Back, Two Steps Front", a powerful '80s jam that splits the difference between prime-time soft rock, disco and soul - the power lies in the stirring impact of the vocals to create a truly spellbinding dancefloor moment (as soon as you have the chance to experience one). "Funk It" is a more classically funky work out with a smattering of Hi NRG histrionics to match the heavy boogie of the rhythm section.

  4. IC Bell - "Night In Musicland" (DJ Friction rework) (6:59)
Review: As with its four fabulous predecessors, "Fulltime Factory 5" offers up a swathe of fresh re-edits and reworks of tracks from the vaults of Italy's cult disco-era imprint Full Time Records. First Re-Loved regular Birdee offers up a "French Touch" style disco-house revision of The Rainbow Team's "Dreaming", before we're treated to a squelchy "M.B edit instrumental dub" of Jimmy Ross' colourful electrofunk jam "Chocolate Ice". Elsewhere, DJ Rocca delivers a chunky, extra-percussive rub of Trance's lively and lovely boogie cut "Hang On It", while DJ Friction brilliantly rearranges the low-slung, mid-tempo disco-funk IC Bell's tremendous "Night In Musicland".

  5. It's Happening Again (Victor Ark remix) (5:55)
  6. My Guiding Star (extended) (7:03)
Review: Stockholm Nightlife make their first outing on wax with this powerful slice of low-tempo pop that makes no bones about its influences. You can sense the bombastic heft of Pet Shop Boys and the visionary synth pop of The Human League lurking behind "It's Happening Again", and that's no bad thing when its rendered so well. Remixes come from Flemming Dalum and ZYX who do a delicate job of reworking the original, plus Victor Ark who brings an added twist of playful synths to the mix. There's also a ZYX mix of darker EBM-tinged cut "Love Me Tonight", and heart-swooning original track "My Guiding Star".

Review: Athens of the North originally contracted obscure 80s boogie artist Billy Bruner about reissuing two of his rare, sought-after singles - "The Tulsa Song" and "The Dream" - but instead raided his tape archives and putting together what's effectively his debut album. Combining previously released tracks (including some made as part of similarly obscure outfit T'Spoon and the gospel-leaning band The Davis Family), unheard extended versions and previously unreleased songs, the album is warm, soulful, slick and summery. Highlights include the stuttering P-funk flex of "Cats Meow", the sizzling dancefloor heat of "School Dance" and the deliciously extended version of glassy-eyed '80s soul jam "Never". If sparkling, synth-heavy '80s soul is your thing, this is one surprise retrospective you won't want to miss.
