Review: Given their obsession with maths, geometry and clandestine soundscapes, you'd expect this debut album from Manchester-based studio boffins Synkro and Indigo to be a murky, otherworldly affair. That it is isn't much of a surprise, though it's hard not to be impressed by the depth of material on offer. This self titled set effortlessly struts between cranky, angular techno ("3dOS", "Hex Ad"), sparse African rhythms ("Smoke Circle"), Skam-ish IDM ("Fooled Edge"), slo-mo industrial drone ("Channel Drift"), and post-dubstep rhythms ("Navigate", the dubwise "Rocendal"). Throughout, there's a claustrophobic air of intense paranoia that's hard to ignore. Impressive stuff.

Review: Originally released in 1996, Aphex Twin's fifth album in as many years meant business from the very moment the wild and whimsical opener "4" scribbled it way through the speakers. With jaunty jams such as "Cornish Acid" and "Fingerbib" running amok mid-set, Richard D James Album acted as a fine mission statement to expect the unexpected and never anticipate formula or form. And it still carries that very same message today. Essential.

Review: Batu fairly owned 2015, launching his own label Timedance as well as landing killer blows for Beneath's Mistry and the excellent Hotline Recordings and this momentum has continued into 2016 with the wonderful Bleeper Feed for Dnuos Ytivil. That 12" landed at the end of January, but Batu clearly has some killer material stockpiled as demonstrated by the suitably named Monolith. Here, Batu presents three examples of his growing prowess for UK bass science, mangling techno into a form that can be described his own. The title track has a touch of that Acido oddness to it, mixed up with rugged UK flavours whilst "Reez" feels less concerned with the dance. Instead it's a chance for Batu to explore sound design and intricate patterns for drums and basslines. It's no surprise that PAN associate Lee Gamble was attracted to the idea of remixing this track, resulting in a wondrous hazy, dubwise fog.

Review: Starting life as a side-project of Cave psych-voyager Cooper Crain, Bitchin Bajas have quickly made their presence felt as experts in both inner and outer space-the drone-based and meditative strains of the three releases they've embarked on to date see them following in a lineage of electronic repetition that takes in such visionary figures as Terry Riley, Harmonia and Eno. The tracks on this fourth release function as a pathway to altered states, yet also work beautifully on an ambient level, connecting the dots between the now and the '70s, yet also the earth and the stars.

Review: *Burial Repress* The double header of Truant/Rough Sleeper is the second EP from Burial in 2012, and arrives with as little fanfare as the superb Kindred EP did early this year. Unlike that more dancefloor focused record however, this EP harks back to the producer's earlier sound. Of course, being two longform compositions clocking in at 12 and 14 minutes respectively, they're hardly conventional works; each utilises the same liberal use of spectral atmospheres, emotive vocal samples, hollow 2-step beats and nods to jungle as we've come to expect from the producer, but with complex structures that come across more like two sides of an old mixtape recorded from a pair of decrepit turntables. Of course being a mixtape from Burial, this is special stuff indeed - consider it an early Christmas present to yourself.

Review: The wonderful Er + Er imprint has a knack for getting some of the biggest names in electronic music together and jamming the hell out! Some of the works by Ricardo Villalobos for the label have been simply sublime. This time, we got legend Carl Craig going head-to-head with the supremely talented Francesco Tristano in a sort of classical techno vibe. "Luder Pre" combines a mid-tempo percussive beat with some seriously twisted piano work, twisting and contorting into a right old spin. It's a one-sided gem, it's 300 copies limited, so you better get yourself one quick!

Review: Enfant Terrible off-shoot, Vrystaete, finally drops the highly anticipated debut release by German oddballs, Diamantener Oberhof! Much in the same vein as the other output on the label, these ten tracks are a voyage into the deepest and darkest realms of electronic music, where quirky vocals blend with starry melodies and lo-fi beat grooves in an altogether dusty coating. Our favourite tunes from this joyous little album are "Die Brut" for its glitchy structure, "Liebstockel" for its gorgeous swell of nostalgia, and the gorgeous, subdued drones of "Mude". Recommended.

Review: Released back in 2003, Rounds was the third LP from Kieran Hebden as Four Tet and perhaps the first long player that widely established him as a pioneering voice within electronic music. Though it doesn't feel like a decade since it was released, Domino celebrate the album's tenth anniversary in requisite fashion here, reissuing it in double LP format and slipping in a CD of Four Tet performing live in Copenhagen in 2004. Listening back now, it's easy to understand why Rounds is viewed as an early classic in the Four Tet canon, transferring his love for free jazz records to a beat template that's more palatable on the ear (Fact pickers might want to know that Hebden recently revealed to Pitchfork the LP was made entirely from samples) "She Moves She" still sounds absolutely haunting too!

Review: German glitch/electronica legend Jan Jelinek (Farben/Gramm) collaborates once again with Japanese vibraphonist Masayoshi Fujita. Schaum (German for froth, foam) is the duo's second album, following up 2010's Bird, Lake, Objects LP. Fujita prepared his instrument with various percussion elements as well as metal objects and toys, while Jan Jelinek layered loops made using small-scale electronic devices. Our personal highlights on this album were hearing the lush hypnotism of "Helio" where Fujita's tonal subtlety merged with Jelinek's trance inducing loops. The brooding ambient epic "Botuto" and the dynamic closing track "Parades" which will wash over then submerge you deeply over its amazing 10 minute duration.

Review: While Tim Hecker has a well-earned reputation for extreme electronic experimentation, he's always been capable of delivering releases shot through with intense beauty. It's this side of Hecker's output that's explored on Love Streams, his first album for three years. Effortlessly melodious, fluid, and constantly evolving, it pairs fuzzy, drone-inspired textures, melancholic atmospherics and ear-pleasing ambient melodies, with flashes of steel drums, manipulated string arrangements, and the distinctive sound of an Icelandic choir. It's a sound palette that ensures a stream of memorable, eyes-closed moments, from the Tangerine Dream inspired "Voice Crack", to the loved-up bliss of the two-part "Violet Monumental".

Review: Trevor Jackson continues on plundering the vaults of classic genres of yesteryear. Following up the sterling effort of the Metal Box series of industrial and EBM classics, he now gathers the very best of Adrian Sherwood's seminal On-U sound imprint for this extensive compilation. All the usual suspects are here; Dub Syndicate with "Over Board", African Head Charge's "Stebeni's Theme" (amongst others) and how could we not forget Tackhead, who appear with the heavy "Now What?" Also appearing are Keith Le Blanc, Mark Stewart & The Maffia and Jackson's own Playgroup project plus many others, covering the imprints' illustrious history over three LPs. Essential listening.

Review: Juju and Jordash are rather good at making albums. Their last full-length excursion, 2012's brilliant Techno Primitivism, was a gloriously maudlin and evocative affair, as influenced by drowsy ambient and experimental electronica as house and techno. While there are some similarly dark tracks lurking in the shadows of third album Clean Cut (see the creepy "Swamp Things"), for the most part it's a pleasingly dancefloor-centric concoction. That's not to say that they've packed it with jolly moments - the tipsy, melodious "Anywhere" and dub disco-meets-deep house wonk-out "SP Shakes" aside - but rather their leftfield blends of house and techno have a more club-friendly feel. The results are, for the most part, extremely good, with the rave-era revivalism of "Whippersnapper" (a kind of darkroom, Detroit-influenced take on T-Coy's "Carino") standing out.

Review: Kevin 'The Bug' Martin and poet Roger Robinson join forces for another King Midas Sound tale and this time they've brought company: Experimental guitarist Fennesz. Exploring his vaults for textures and tones, and reinterpreting them into their own tonal brand of immersiveness, Fennesz's sounds act as a canvas for Roger's measured messages and Kevin's wizard-like ability to conjure up sense-arresting atmospheres... Just as the next collaborators will later on in this album series. With added evocative soul subversion from vocalist Kiki Hitomi, the result sits somewhere between Blue Lines, Kryptic Minds, Nils Frahm and David Lynch. We're looking forward to Edition 2.

Review: Frequent Jeremy Greenspan and Morgan Geist collaborator Jessy Lanza was hailed as a future star on the release of her 2013 debut album, Pull My Hair Back. That album projected her as some kind of New York freestyle chanteuse dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century, backed by an all-electronic band fascinated with the potential of future R&B and left-of-centre synth-pop. This belated follow-up, which was once again produced in cahoots with Jeremy Greenspan, is even better. Colourful, vibrant and attractive, the ten songs are truthful to their '80s NYC inspirations, but smartly avoid the pitfalls of such blatant retro-futurism. In other words, it's a superb collection of future R&B and pop gems.

Review: The latest show stopping release from RVNG INTL's archival series offers the first authorized re-edition of Craig Leon's pair of early '80s albums Nommos and Visiting. For the uninitiated, Leon is a composer and producer who largely helped shape the early NYC punk and new wave scene with his assistance on landmark debuts from Suicide, Richard Hell, The Ramones and Blondie. His own music however is something different, with both Nommos and Visiting highly sought after among the more cosmically-minded crate diggers, with the former the subject of several unofficial bootlegs and a particular favourite of the cosmic daddy himself Danielle Baldelli. Inspired by an exhibit of extra terrestrial sculpture in New York, Leon crafted some truly ahead of it's time electronic music on both Nommos and Visiting and this RVNG edition presents the albums as s Leon had originally intended, under the banner of Anthology of Interplanetary Folk Music in homage to Harry Smith's similarly titled influential collection of folk music issued some 20 years previously.

Review: Drew Lustman has gone back to basics on this latest full length excursion, dropping his now familiar Falty DL moniker for a set that Planet Mu claims was made "free of conceptual constraints". In some ways, it's a smart move. The Crystal Cowboy is effectively Lustman at his most playful and dancefloor focused, eschewing the impressive, far-reaching complexities of his Falty DL work in favour of straight-up dancefloor jams - and occasionally dreamy IDM workouts - that pay tribute to the halcyon days of British hardcore, early jungle and 'intelligent techno'. This freedom seems to have brought the best out of Lustman, who has shameless delivered the sort of set guaranteed to put smiles on listeners' faces.

Review: There's been a fair amount of hype around this unlikely collaboration between Zimbabwean mbira maestro Jacob Mafuleni and French electrofunk producer Gary Gritness. In truth, the hype is deserved. Offering a thoroughly fresh tale on traditional shona music, the album effortlessly blends percussion and vocals from Mafuleni and wife Martha Thorn with the vibrant synthesizers and on-point drum machine programming of Gritness. It's a formula that arguably shouldn't work, but in reality results in a string of memorable moments. For proof, check the near D&B tempo brilliance of "Mukuru", the intricate melodies, slipped beats and raw analogue bass of closer "Nyama Lekougoctha" and the sublime shona-electro fusion of opener "Mayariria".

Review: Gird yourselves; starting from this month and running through until December, Dutch institution Dekmantel are celebrating a decade in the game with a series of monthly 12"s featuring a seriously all-star cast from Tony Allen to Villalobos. It starts right here as legendary innovative composer Gigi Masin opens with the lilting, delicate "Maja", Vakula brings us down from the clouds and back to the future with the body-jacking ghetto bump of "Robot Fuck The System" while Flugel blows the finale horn with the swampy Amazonian harmonic trip-out "Mice On Stick". This is the start of something very special.

Review: What a year it's been for Warp. So far in 2014, other than Aphex Twin's Syro, the label has released music from Squarepusher, Oneohtrix Point Never and Jackson & His Computer Band to Plaid, Nightmares On Wax and Rustie - with another album by Clark forthcoming. Now one of Glasgow's most colourful producers (check out the cover art), Hudson Mohawke returns to home base with his first official release since the Satin Panthers EP. As usual there's a kaleidoscope of sounds to be heard on Chimes alongside hip hop beats, footwork skitters and gangster 'woof' vocals, and if "Joy Fantastic" from Butter is a Hud Mo fav, then "King Kong Beaver" should fill you with hope that a follow up LP is on the way.

Review: After briefly appearing as one of those enigmatic Sahko white labels, we weren't sure if Konstellaatio would be pressed up for a general release, but thankfully, our Finnish friends are wary of our electronic needs...This LP is Classic Mika under his O guise - one saved primarily for his most contemplative works - and it's one of those releases that will capture you from the start and make you want some therapy at the end of it. Rich, textural drones running the whole way through and accompanied by sparse, doomed melodies and fluttering beats. It's a spectacular ordeal of harmonic delight. Don't wait around because these won't last for very long...

Review: There's been an pleasantly eccentricity underpinning the Public Possession label since it was inaugurated by the Robusto 12" from Tambien (aka founders Marvin & Valentino and fellow Munchner Bartellow) last year and it's become ever more apparent with each release. Public Possession's fifth release introduces a new player in the shape of Obalski and sees their weird streak explored explicitly and the results are nothing less than superb. Described by the label as a "long term shareholder of the Public Possession Organisation," Obalski's musical CV apparently includes art gallery sound installations and scores for local Munich theatrical productions. This background in the avant-garde is very much evident on Introducing Obalski which largely eschews club based rhythms in favour of six tracks of kosmische experimentation.

Review: After the meteoric impact of his self-released singles and spots on Hessle Audio, Power Vacuum and Bleep, the electronic music world has been waiting patiently for TJ Hertz to step up and share a wider vista of his sound world. This debut LP for PAN does not disappoint, channelling the electronica quality of his most crushing club music and giving it a chance to roam that bit more freely. The beats still hit hard on the likes of "Ratchet", but that's not their only purpose. With sound design and general production fireworks at the forefront, whether you can dance to this or not is unimportant; what matters is how completely edge-of-your-seat thrilling it is to listen to, from every space age sweep to each grubby reverb impulse. We always knew he had it in him, and Objekt has more than delivered on that promise.

Review: Roly Porter's recent output finally earned him a place in the big league; his second LP, Third Law, comes through courtesy of New York's excellent Tri Angle label, and the mighty "4101" - released as a single back in Novemeber, paves the way for an album full of suspense and surrealism. This is no job for anyone looking for peace or meditation, but rather one for the more open-minded. "Mass", for instance, unleashes boulders of bass and noise over glitchy half-beats, whereas the tunes like "High Places" sound like the inside of an interstellar cruiser, and the sublime "In System" reminds us of Apex Twin's strand of ambient...a cold, pensive bundle of euphoric energy. Recommended.
