Review: Fantasia by Juan Almeida is the next album in My Bongo's faultless Cuban Classics series and is a true outlier that you (we) find hard to put into any specific existing category. Almeida is a key figure in the Cuban revolution who also composed over 300 songs. This album, produced by Rafael Somavilla, is an eclectic instrumental journey that draws on Latin jazz-funk, trippy electronics and classical orchestration to at times feel like a grand, ghostly film score with repeating passages evoking spectral images while at others it explodes into exotic funk, psychedelic tones, and Afro-Cuban percussion. This one is a deep listen that is much sought-after by collectors so makes for another great reissue.

Hooker's transformation from a substance-abusing hippy to a Bible basher is reflected in the lyrics, with tracks like 'Forge Your Own Chains' highlighting his battle with addiction and the album's eclectic mix of smooth balladry, rock standards, and experimental sound effects makes it a fascinating listen. Privately pressed with just 99 copies originally, this album is one of the rarest records of all time. Hooker assembled a group of local musicians for recording sessions at Dynamic Recording Studios in New Haven, Connecticut. The musicians' remarkable performances, including a ferocious piano solo on 'Fall In Love,' add to the album's allure. The Truth remains accessible to new audiences. Review: Quill were a Boston-based rock band that gained national attention after performing a standout show at the legendary Woodstock festival in August 1969 despite only having formed just two years before in 1967. The quintet played throughout New England and New York and soon earned praise for their high-energy rock infused with psychedelia, jazz, and elements of performance art. Brothers John and Dan Cole handled most of the songwriting and created complex compositions that fuelled their always dynamic live shows, which often featured heavy audience participation. Quill's innovative approach and unique blend of styles made them a standout act in the late 1960s rock scene and mean this album remains a favourite years on, which his why it now gets a welcome reissue.
