Alkaline Trio still stand strong as a complex band of punk rockers, known for their unusual blend of grunge, goth and punk rock elements. Their fourth album, and considered by many fans to be their best - Good Mourning - flaunts this talent, with the songs therein both energetic and emotional, spanning themes of love, death, addiction and despair. Despite the pop-punk flavour, there's a rawness in these classics that manages to poke through the melodic spectacle. Originally released in 2003, this reissued Deluxe Edition of the album features a limited gatefold 2x10" LP in a spot-varnished sleeve, as well as four bonus tracks that were not included on the original CD version.

Review: Not too long ago, the prospect of pop-punk legends Blink-182 reuniting with founding vocalist/guitarist Tom DeLonge was nothing more than a fanboy pipe-dream. Originally going on indefinite hiatus in 2005, leading to the formation of subsequent new projects (Angels & Airwaves, +44), before reforming in 2009 for a comeback tour and the eventual release of the criminally underrated Neighourhoods, DeLonge would depart yet again, leading to an era of divisive lukewarm reception from the fanbase while Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio would fill DeLonge's place for the band's next two full-lengths California and Nine. In the years since, vocalist/bassist Mark Hoppus overcame his battle with cancer, leading to another, perhaps more organic and mature reconciliation process. The resulting turmoil has ultimately led to One More Time; the trio's ninth LP overall and seventh with DeLonge (following Skiba's amicable departure). Taking cues from their vastly differing side-projects, and distilling a myriad of sonic experimentation into a rejuvenated formula, the material here marks the most potent and dynamic work from all involved to date, while also boasting the first producer credit for drummer Travis Barker (who has previously worked with the likes of Machine Gun Kelly, Lil Aaron and Goody Grace). Reliably juvenile yet deeply mature, progressive, punk and pop in equal facets, this is the LP lifers have been begging of the pop-punk overlords for many a moon.

Arising from the demise of The Poppees, vocalist/rhythm guitarist Paddy Lorenzo and lead guitarist Bobby Dee Waxman grew tired of their Merseybeat influences and opted to embrace the more aggressive inspirations that were coming by way of acts in their formative years such as The Heartbreakers and Ramones, as well as the burgeoning CBGB's live scene at large. Thus, The Boyfriends was born and lurch into the fray so they did in unencumbered fashion with a bevvy of pop sensibility and mega hooks hidden behind a frenetic bent. Wrapped Up In A Dream compiles the group's two singles as well as studio material and demos, remastered from the original tapes and pressed to its very first vinyl home. Review: If you want to talk about landmark albums, how about Dookie? The third LP from a then-fresh faced but already-jaded Green Day represented a true 'moment' in the development of skate rock and punk, pre-empting the rise of pop punk. Casting a mind back to 1993, when the record hit, and memories prevail of record walls lined with t-shirts sporting the iconic artwork, and a sense that the future of guitar music would be anything but the overblown stadium mega rock that dominated much of the 1980s. Perhaps that never quite became the truth - Green Day catapulted this sound to the top of main stage festival bills in just a few years - but the raw energy, voice of generation X attitude still hits today. Review: Swedish skate punk survivors Millencolin have been doing it since the early 90s and they've scaled some great heights in their time. One such peak was undoubtedly 2008 album Machine 15, which features some of their most immediate earworms but also some of their sharpest harmonies and songwriting. 'Detox' is an irrepressible, bouncy blast of melodic punk that would have been a global radio hit in a just world, but then Millencolin do just as well as legends amongst their peers on Epitaph. Remastered and repressed on grey vinyl, it's 15 years young for this seminal slice of pop-punk-rock.

Review: Logically landing on 31st October, 1981 (well, the year is far less significant than day-month), 'Halloween' was one of horror punk outfit Misfits' early singles, released through Plan 9 Records. Just 5,000 copies were pressed on black 7" vinyl, the most sought-after now are those with a full lyric sheet which was missing from many copies. It's also notable as the first time the group used their logo inspired by genre-specific US movie magazine, Famous Monsters of Filmland.

This would be the last Misfits outing with guitarist Bobby Steele, and reflects just how wild and daring some of their ideas were. Track one, 'Halloween', has cultish, chant-like qualities, but pales into comparison with the longer sequel, 'Halloween II', which features verses in non-standard Latin, just to throw petrol on the whole fire and brimstone feel.

Review: Dark Entries are back with another one of their gold standard reissues, this time focussing on the next level synth punk album Music From Hell from LA band Nervous Gender. They formed in 1978 with Phranc, Gerardo Velaquez, Edward Stapleton, and Michael Ochoa all cooking up this weird and wonderful mix of post-punk, minimal synth, and early industrial music. It has been remastered for this album, which is also expanded onto a double LP. The album kicks off with unsettling shockers then goes son to a live performance the band labelled "an electronic bruto-canto dissertation on the banality of spiritual transcendence." It's packed with occult melodies and odd bleeps and whirrs to make for a beguiling and haunting listen.
