Review: Initially put forward as a potential Beatles single during the mid 1990s 'Anthology' period but shelved due to objections from George Harrison, 'Now and Then' has been trailed as the iconic band's 'final single'. It's re-emergence now in finished form (it was completed partially using AI, but also some studio trickery by Giles Martin) ties in with the reissue of the band's two 1973 'best of' compilations (the so-called 'Red' and 'Blue' collections). Like their two singles of the 90s, it features Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and the late George Harrison finishing off an early 70s John Lennon demo, with a little help from producer Jeff Lynne. It comes backed with a freshly remixed, 'proper' stereo version of their debut single, 'Love Me Do', thus completing the band's musical journey once and for all.

Side A features the previously unreleased 1966 ye-ye inspired burner 'I Ought To Stay Away From You', paired with her latter-day viral smash 'Why Do I Cry'. Review: Music history boffins might be interested to know the 19-minute live recording that is From Us To You #4 runs only slightly shorter than the average touring set played by the Fab Four at the time - 1964. A band in ascendency, to say the least, this is the final (and, as the title suggests, fourth) instalment in this EP series, which is made up of BBC session recordings from the later stages of the legendary group's rock-pop, Merseybeat era. A time capsule captured at the UK broadcasting giant's Paris Studios headquarters, classics like 'A Hard Day's Night' and the titular 'From Us To You' sit alongside the Little Richard anthem 'Kansas City/Hey-hey-hey-hey!', and B-sides like 'Things We Said Today'. This time delivered on a gatefold 180 gram vinyl 3xLP half-speed remaster, as the dates of 1962-1966 suggest, this collection pins down a plethora of classics penned by McCartney and Lennon, with a notable absence of any George Harrison material. Running from Please Please Me all the way up to Revolver, the compilation provides a sonic journey from the clean-cut pop-rock ditties of 'She Loves You' and 'Yesterday' to the more progressive and pioneering machinations taking shape on cuts such as 'Norwegian Wood' and the timelessly haunting 'Eleanor Rigby'. A crash course, in essence, of The Beatles' progression from witty boys with nice haircuts to modern music reformers.

It features distorted organ loveliness here that continues with their practice of putting out new music in the style of old soul 7"s. On this split-flip 45, two of the most eminent soul vocalists out today share a side each. St. Louis singer Raye Cole helms the A-side, with her energetic number 'You Gotta Set Me Free' stomping on forward with a shaker-clapping, horn-heavy blues swing. Rachel Maxann - perhaps another alias similar to Nestor Alvarez - brings up the B on a finger-clicking alternate take on 'You Gotta Set Me Free'.

Review: Dave Clark Five, Manfred Mann, Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Searchers. To say the New Musical Express pulled together an impressive line up for the magazine's celebratory concert, at which the winners of a reader's poll were revealed, would be an understatement. And this is before we even mention the fact The Rolling Stones were also involved, only beaten to the top of the bill by The Beatles. On the day, Liverpool's Fab Four were presented their award by none other than Roger Moore, and then proceeded to play their first live show in 15 weeks. 'She Loves You', 'You Can't Do That', 'Long Tall Sally', and 'Can't Buy Me Love' were among the highlights, with an audience of 10,000 packing out the Empire Pool in Wembley for the entire day. This recording captures the energy of that set and the spirit of the time.

Review: Salena Jones has been active since the 60s, recording over 40 albums of jazz, soul and easygoing pop in that time. Her rendition of 'Am I The Same Girl' - the soul standard written by industry songwriting string-pullers Eugene Record and Sonny Sanders - lies among the greats of its reinterpreters. While Barbara Acklin's version is most famous, Salena Jones' version is much warmer, and its mention of the instrumental's name, 'Soulful Strut', to the main title should be indication enough from the off that Jones' version carries a far greater buoyancy.

Review: Floyd James & The GT's 'Green Onions' is one of those seminal classics that defy age and categorisation and makes anybody who hears it move. It has the twisted rock riffs, the nice dusty Hammond organ leads, and a smooth rhythm section that just won't quit. Add in the funky midsection and you have everything you need to get a party started. To be honest the slightly more jazzy and free-swinging flipside 'On The Good Foot' ain't too bad either. Move fast with this one because there are only 200 copies and with this being such a perennially hot tune, they won't last long.
