  1. Sheed's Move (6:28)
  2. Jam Tight (5:03)
  3. Back In This Shit (5:24)
  4. Not (5:23)
Review: Over the last few years, Kai Alce has shied away from releasing material on NDATL Muzik under his own name, preferring instead to produce or promote other artists. Here he finally returns to the imprint he established a decade ago for the first time in nearly three years. Predictably, he begins in fine form via "Back In This Shit", a sublime, soul-flecked chunk of late night/early morning deepness that cleverly combines elements of hypnotic deep house and stargazing Motor City techno. Those looking for more straightforward deep house positivity should check the rich musicality and mazy synth solos of "Not" and the flute-laden flutter of "Sheed's Mood", while closer "Jam Tight" should suit those who like their drowsy deep house jams underpinned by bustling, jazz-fired drums.

  3. Free Energy - "Happiness" (7:41)
  4. Black Science Orchestra - "New Jersey Deep" (Lost In Time edit) (5:47)
Review: Basic Vision 004 features a selection of late night classics from the legendary dance-floor of back to basics. The club was one of the first in the UK to receive a late license in the mid 90s. This allowed DJs to play long late night sets. There was a glass roof at The Pleasure Rooms venue where these tracks were played, which in summer let the sunshine in, so there the last set became a sunrise session. All the cuts included on this record are bona fide early morning rare classics records from the club. There are also two previously unreleased edits. The first is a Rob Mellow extended version of the Masters at Work dub of Chris Cuevas - 'Hip Hop'. Then there is the unreleased Lost in Time edit of Black Science Orchestra - New Jersey Deep. This track was often featured by Lawson as the last track of the night during the Pleasure Rooms years. Original Detroit techno pioneer Eddie Fowlkes' highly sought after 'Where Will I Be? is featured after years being deleted and will not be available digitally. The record is completed with Free Energy aka Joshua IZ - 'Happiness' from Guidance records, one of the all time great house music records from San Francisco.

  1. Star Buk (9:38)
  2. Son Of Slave (7:42)
  3. 1972 (7:08)
Review: Following fine scalpel-focused outings from LTJ and Les Inferno, many of many aliases Stefano De Gama returns to Samosa with a trio of subtly tooled-up disco edits. A-side "Son of Slave" sees him join together bits of soulful disco-era classics "Slide" and "Son of Slide" to form a tasty new whole. While heavily compressed and noticeably chunkier than either of the original tracks, De Gama's version is loose enough to please those who think edits should merely be DJ-friendly re-arrangements. Turn to the flipside for the lolloping, low-slung Afro-funk goodness of "1972" and the throbbing peak-time disco celebration of filter-sporting closer "Star Buk". This too boasts booming drums and bass, but also enough musical looseness to avoid the usual disco-house pitfalls.

Haze Phenomenon EP (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: EQV 06. Rel: 30 Apr 18
  1. Shelf Cloud (7:40)
  2. Halo (6:30)
  3. Haze Phenomenon (8:30)
Review: Rising Greek producer G.U.S. steps up on Equivalence with some pumped up vintage techno sounds that take more than a few cues from the UK. "Shelf Cloud" strikes a fine balance between tough and dreamy, using a twitchy set of drums moving at a decent pace and flooding them with atmospheric pads and a slice of vocal that forms a central hook to the track. "Halo" goes even deeper into British territory with its chopped up breakbeat funk calling to mind the dexterous sample magic of Stasis, and then "Haze Phenomenon" heads into deep tech house territory riding a pumped up shuffle beat and swooping pads.

  1. Maxi Dance (5:59)
  2. Crimbo 16 (6:53)
  3. Bovine Bakery (4:16)
  4. Picture Disc (7:20)
Review: Gene On Earth debuted last year via a rock solid EP on the Limousine Dream label he established to handle his own productions. There's much to savour on this relatively speedy follow-up, from the heavyweight analogue bass, deep space chords and bustling two-step garage influences of opener "Maxi Dance", to the cheeky bleep techno riffs and rubbery, house-tempo hardcore breakbeats of fine closer "Picture Disc". In between, you'll find the YYY style Parisian tech-house heaviness of "Chrimbo 16" and the skittish warmth of "Bovine Bakery", where electronic motifs reminiscent of vintage Detroit techno rise above ghostly melody lines and popping, braindance-influenced drums.

  1. Politics Of Dancing X Djebali (6:48)
  2. Politics Of Dancing X Franck Roger (7:19)
Review: The boys from Politics Of Dancing Records launch their new imprint, P.O.D CRXSS. It's a label of collaborations, of paths crossed, It's about friendship, having fun making music with each other. The first release is understandably done by parisian artists, as Djebali, Franck Roger and Politics Of Dancing have been long time friends, deejaying together for years. The result is two quality deep house tracks, cut for dance floors, one track pressed on each side of the vinyl for maximum dynamics and dj friendly use. Friends, music and party, that's what it's all about.

  2. Danserytme (drum tool) (6:21)
  3. Jammy (4:55)
  4. Edvardsens (4:33)
Review: Erik Skantze introduced himself to the world via a track on Full Pupp's tenth anniversary sampler series back in 2014, but has been made to wait four years for a debut EP proper. It was arguably worth the wait. Certainly, there's much to enjoy throughout the ultra-limited EP, from the darting, acid-fired bass and lo-fi synth stabs of opener "Dancerytme", to the meandering sunrise electronics and sweaty, ever-intensifying military drum machine hits of Scandolearic house workout "Jammy". Elsewhere, Skantze doffs a cap to fellow loved-up Norwegian Telephones via the colourful and dreamy bliss of "Edvardsens" and enjoys a humid percussion workout on the Sotofett-esque "Danserytme (Drum Tool)".

  3. Trinidadian Deep & Lars Bartkuhn - "The Parish" (Full Experience) (10:10)
  4. Trinidadian Deep & Lars Bartkuhn - "The Parish" (dub) (4:32)
Review: Given that Ron Trent was once his musical mentor, it's perhaps unsurprising that Trinidadian Deep is capable of producing spellbinding spiritual deep house. His former mentor's influence can be heard within the layered African percussion, lilting synthesizer melodies and spacey riffs of "Native Palo", the opening track from the New York-based producer's latest EP. There's no doubt that Trent would also love the Osunlade style beats, drowsy chords and steel drum solos of "The People". On the flip, "Trini Deep" joins forces with like-minded deep house stalwart Lars Bartkuhn for two passes of "The Parish". There's the "Full Experience" mix, an organic, warm and enveloping chunk of deep house bliss smothered in syntheszier and piano solos, and a trippy, percussion-rich late night "Dub".

Tenderness EP (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: ST 005. Rel: 30 Apr 18
  1. Moon River (7:31)
  2. Turn Around! (5:22)
  3. Tenderness (5:39)
  4. When It All Happens (5:07)
Review: ""Tenderness" is four cuts of emotional dance music from Super Tuff label head, M. Vaughan. With galloping shakers underpinned by a weighty sub-bass, the A1 cut Moon River is a blue-eyed peak time anthem. Turn Around! Is an A2 track with heavy duty low end and a tender pitch shifted vocalia wonky patchwork of melodies that sums to something reminiscent of early Herbert. For the B-side, "Tenderness" at 117 BPM is a soft, opening tune that serves up a breaky drums, liquid pads, and a well-placed harp solo. "When it All Happens..." is a DJ Aakmael inspired groover that leaves the EP with a driving kick, chunky Moog bass, and a vocal sample wailing out from the pains of heartbreak. Don't cry! Get intimate with a brand new copy of M. Vaughan's "Tenderness" from Super Tuff.

Review: Brawther proudly presents his first full length album, "Transient States". Just over 10 years into releasing music, the LP sees the frenchman collaborating with an array of musicians and his first vocal song, with the appearance of Detroit unsung Hero Javonntte and .The listeners gradually transit via Dub,Techno, Hip Hop, Ambiant and straight up Jacking numbers. "Brudan in Leeds" sees a new collaboration with Daniel Paul (Cab Drivers). The album also marks the start of his imprint "Negentropy", a long awaited home for all his musical endeavors and fantasies. Without any strict musical policy but one based on quality over quantity, it will manifest the latest adventures and experimentation of the french artist.

  6. Migori Superstars - "Anyango Maggy" (Africaine 808 edit) (4:52)
Review: Back in the late 1960s, underground magazine Source helped increase interest in avant-garde music by bundling together a record and an arty, printed publication. Some 50 years on, Swiss project FLEE is attempting something similar. They say that each edition will combine a long-playing record exploring a specific musical genre or movement with a beautifully presented, screen-printed "journal" containing essays from experts in the field. Issue one focuses on Kenyan Benga music. On one side of the record you'll find a trio of classic cuts from pioneers of the style. A trio of contemporary producers offers modern interpretations on the flip, with Africaine 808's killer re-edit of "Aryango Maggy" by Migori Superstars standing out. Brilliant stuff, all told.
