Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged but otherwise in excellent condition***

Once again, XL Recordings resupply our vitals with Basement Jaxx's life-giving audio elixir 'Remedy', their joyous debut album from 1999. Renowned for its sensuous themes, international palette of influences and, of course, its basis in bangerized house music, tracks like 'Red Alert' and 'Jump n' Shout' paved the way for much big beat, electro and pop house to come.

Genie (Michael Gray dub mix) (5:31)
Review: Dutch label High Fashion always deals in house music at the more funky and accessible end of the spectrum. It's got a few decent remix EPs dropping right now and this is one of them with the one and only Michael Grey at the buttons. He brings his famously catchy synth loops and warm, irresistible bassline to plenty of well chopped vocals. His first remix of 'Genie' is a real vocal belter with mid tempo drums and 80s synths and the dub strips things back a little to allow the grooves to shine.

REPRESS ALERT!: Six years after delivering his debut album - a digital-only affair called TruSkool - Demuir has finally got round to recording a follow-up. The Toronto native's brand of house is chunky, groovy, deep and funky, taking cues not only from previous collaborators such as DJ Sneak, but also those of his contemporaries that make great use of dusty samples and killer drum programming. As a result, Visions manages to work both as a collection of club-focused cuts and an album you can listen to repeatedly from start to finish. Our picks of a pleasingly strong bunch include the fluid, disco-tinged, Hipnotic-sampling brilliance of 'Mind, Body & Soul Call Me', TUSH hook-up 'Skylar' (a superb slab of gospel-tinged soulful house) and the delicious Fred P collaboration 'Dream (Part II)'.

Review: Brooklyn's toucan sounds has snapped up the signature of Dee Diggs for her long-awaited debut single and it does not disappoint. 'Toss It' is, like the artist herself, inspired by the Black, queer roots of house music and it come with lashings of disco energy, smoky vocals and glossy chords as well as a catchy pop riff that emplores you to set yourself free. A fine remix comes from Detroit's Ladymonix who makes things dark, sweaty and steamy and last of all is a Matt FX Glitz N Glam mix to make this a brilliant package.

Peggy Gou has long since broken out of niche dance music circles out on to the wider world thanks to her pro and well crafted DJ sets and earned ties with plenty of high-end fashion brands. Including this, she does have some fine music making credentials as her hit single '(It Goes Like) Nanana' shows - its an inescapably catchy house cut with an iconic hook that is easy to sing along to. It now arrives, having first come via her own label, on XL which will only make it reach even higher levels of ubiquity. All hail the Gou!

Review: What is love? An ancient emotion? Or a relatively recent sociological construct used to justify convenient marriages from the Victorian era onwards? This 90s dance anthem by the Trinidadian-German artist Haddaway readily asks the question and it's fair enough that he does - he wants to be sure, since he also asks us not to hurt him in the same breath. Love is a fickle beast, one that can placate and violate in equal measure, but thankfully eurodance is one of the best sounds through which to express it. Its catchy synth hook, pulsing beat, and Haddaway's soulful vocals make this a timeless club hit that still resonates today.

Night Fantasy (5:36)
Just Change (4:47)
Dat Tape (5:52)
Come On (5:58)
Review: Breezy headwinds, orange-tinged skies, hazy, serene bliss - just some of the profound feelings to be had on the latest release from Oath, a masterclass in melody and mood from one of the finest contemporary house producers about today. 'Night Fantasy' is Jacy's first EP in four years and much like his other records, this one blesses us with warmth, delight and joy, in the softest and most subtle of manners. The title track, which opens up the record, greets the listener with a familiar drum pattern, one which then gives way to the rock-hard bassline; 'Just Change' comes on next, and this one opens up with that classic and explicitly dreamy chord sequence we all know and cherish, with Jacy allowing us to soak up this goodness before shifting the perspective to the rhythm. 'Dat Tape' shifts perspective to more of a swing in terms of the groove, with sweeping background pads doing much to tug at the heartstrings - and, finally, we have 'Come On', which retains a more spacious feel between the keys and the drums.

Blast was the critically acclaimed and commercially successful debut album from Holly Johnson back in 1989. Though best known for fronting Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Johnson's solo work established him n the world stage and now gets reissued as a 35th-anniversary edition on red vinyl. It has been out of print for a while after a CD reissue back in 2010 so is deserving of this new run, especially given that it hit number one on the UK album charts and spawned two top 10 hit singles in 'Love Train' and 'Americanos'. It's a big, funky, hook-laden mix of house sounds from the late 80s that is filled with nostalgia.

Review: Chicago house great Lil Louis really nailed it when he wrote 'Cub Lonely' back in 1992 with his group The World. It was taken from their album A Journey With The Lonely and has lead vocals by Joi Cardwell that helped it become an instant club smash. All these years later it always gets a big reaction on the floor which is why it has now been reissued by Epic complete with a series of remixes. The I'm On The Guest List mix is the one with the wonky sax lines and steamy vocals, the instrumental is paired back and more club-ready then DJ Pierre's Afro club mix bringing some big and freewheeling synth energy. The Bellbottoms & Platforms mix is a subtle tweak and then the most raw of the lot is the Radically Lonely mix to close down.

Review: Some of Masters at Work man Louie Vega's greatest full-length projects have paid tribute to New York's 50-year dance music story, as well as his personal musical inspirations (most notably the Nuyorican Soul album he penned with long-time production partner Kenny 'Dope' Gonzalez in the 1990s). Expansions in the NYC, his latest epic excursion, treads a similar path, offering a large number vocal-heavy numbers that not only blend elements of disco, boogie, proto-house and house, but also feature some genuinely high-profile vocalists from that era (think Peech Boys' Bernard Fowler, Unlimited Touch). Vega also joins forces with 21st century house star Honey Dijon on the superb 'Feels So Right', while the hook-ups with Moodymann, Kerri Chandler and Joe Clausell are as inspired as you'd expect.

Review: The little-known Mangiadischi is the name of both artist and label, and this is the third release to grace the catalogue of this very fresh series. Three weirdo breaks and house medleys for the oddball listener feature here: 'Time Tah Get Groovy' comes laden with sped-up femme vocal samples filtered through loco scratchwork, all set against a hardened house backing. Then, on the B-side, things get even weirder with 'Don Lee', which indeterminately edits a Talking Heads-style original (a song we can't track down for the life of us) but plunges it into a submerged edited haze of transitional and novelty FX; then, finally, there's 'Lime & Loco', a clever but very surreal remix of Harry Nilsson's 'Lime In The Coconut'.

For our money, early house music - or any house music, for that matter - doesn't get much better than Raze's utterly perfect 'Break 4 Luv.' That rolling bassline never quits, the effortless vocal conveys a sense of romantic yearning we can all relate to and the crispness of the drums just keeps the whole thing bumping next to timeless synth-strings. So we're always going to be glad when it gets reissued as it does here with an Our Tribe club mix which is heavier and little less lumpy with added synth work.

'Spotlight' leans on an r&b jam familiar to many and it comes here with some fresh remixes. The original is rolling, soulful house with lush production, US garage drum shuffles and great vocals. Sam Divine adds plenty of weight bass and makes it a more tribal tech cut then two Mousse T remixes offer first a big, raw and piano-laced version as well as a slamming disco mix for the peak time.

'Replay' is feel good house music with funky bass and soulful vocals that will get hands in the air, no doubt. 'Wait' then pairs a well known vocal line with some super smooth and rolling soulful house groves and 'In The Air' is another one with a timeless singalong vocal that is reworked into some percussion laced house beats. Add in the big disco of '45 Theme' and 'Running' and you have a versatile EP.

Don't Fight The Feeling (The Mighty Zaf edit)
Review: Diggers Dozen has got a superb vinyl exclusive here as they press up the glorious Tampa hit 'Don't Fight The Feeling' to 7" for the first time ever. The band formed in 1977 in Miami and was a popular house band in the Tampa Bay nightclub that mostly played covers as well as their own originals in an array of styles. One day the group ripened to an advert on a local radio station for forums to submit music to be inclined on a new comparison showcasing local talents and this is the track they sent it. It is one of only ten tunes to have made the cut and it's easy to see why - it's a fine and high-paced fusion of jazz, disco and soul that sweeps you off your feet. The Mighty Zaf edit on the flip distills things slightly into a track that's even more potent.

Is there a label as iconic Nervous in all of house music? Probably not. The New York staple is responsible for shaping and reshaping the genre many times over the years and in 2021 turns an impressive 30. Of course, there are plenty of celebrations going on to mark the occasion, including a bumper multi-part compilation feature all the label's many golden grooves and classic tunes from over the years. Next to enduring label associates like David Morales and Mood II Swing, Armand Van Helden and Kim English, plenty of new school names get in on the act such as Danny Howard, Darius Syrossian and Gerd Janson. Superb.
