  4. No Smoke - "Theme From The Stars" (7:01)
Review: London's Warriors Dance label was a unique operation and a pioneering label during the late 80's acid house phenomena. This EP from 1991 is reissued in its original form with all four cuts intact, in particular Addis Posse's "After Midnight'. This is a strong statement of intent: blistering and obscure cuts from the depths of Harrow Road, drawing on the breakbeat heavy, hip-hop orientated style the crew were known for. Pure London street sounds infused with the techno and house sensibilities that made the label so potent.

  3. D Town Connection (5:17)
  4. I Can't Hear You (5:29)
  5. Come 2 Me (instrumental) (3:47)
Review: Fun fact: Andres' first ever remix was done for NDATL. Almost a decade later, he finally returns to Kai Alce's imprint with an EP of his own. It's a pleasingly musically rich affair, with the Motor City producer using the A-side to explore his Latin roots and influences. Opener "Ensolardo" is probably best described as "organic Brazilian house", with breezy, jazz-funk style backing vocals and lilting synth lines riding a densely layered rhythm track. Andres goes even more percussion-heavy on the track that follows, "Cafe Con Leche", which sounds like the accompaniment to a particularly celebratory carnival party in Rio. Over on side B, "D Town Connection" is a warm, synth-heavy chunk of attractive Motor City deep house, while "I Can't Hear You" recalls the producer's sample-heavy breakthrough releases.

Hanko (heavyweight vinyl 12")
Cat: POL 001. Rel: 19 Dec 18
  1. Hanko (5:02)
  2. Sync Dancehall (4:08)
Review: Geneva producer Androo's debut EP on Music From Memory offshoot Second Circle was a gloriously psychedelic, off-kilter fusion of slo-mo tribal beats, sticky tropical textures and quietly colourful electronics. It was rather impressive all told, though some would argue that this follow-up on debutant imprint Poly Dance is even better. This time round, he's gone for a slightly more glassy-eyed, loved-up vibe, with flipside "Sync Dancehall" offering a near-perfect blend of warming Balearic chords, pitched-down, delay-laden drum machine poly-rhythms and some suitably spaced out electronic flourishes. Arguably even better, though, is A-side "Hanko", where fluid, Latin house style electric piano solos rise above a slo-mo tribal groove. Impressive stuff all told.

  1. Nebulosa
  2. Asteroides
  3. O-Type
Review: Brazilian producer Apoena has been steadily issuing serious heaters for labels like Underground Quality and Stuga Musik since 2010, but the core of his output can be found on his own Allnite Music label. The Nebulosa EP features more of the immersive, shimmering tech house tones he's built his name on thus far, leading in with the swirling wonderment of the title track before swerving on the B side into the more punchy, deliciously dubbed out "Asteroides." Bringing the most overtly house-oriented sounds on the record, "O-Type" signs off on a weighty, head-nodding groove carefully crafted for eyes-closed transcendence, whether you're rocking the jam in your headphones or on the floor.

  1. Nada Nada
  2. Reyerta
  3. Evoca
  4. Nada Nada (Simple Symmetry 'What Happens After Death' remix)
Review: This time in Calypso, Aristidez takes us on journey trough the streets of Lima Peru. The Chaos and the spirituaity of this old country are noticable on all of this tracks. Rumbling percussions and vocals, harmony and rythm, darkness and light all come togeter through the use of samples to show the quality of this young up and coming producer. "Nada Nada" it's the mantra that will help you go through the morning in a grey and cloudy city. "Reyerta" represents the violence of many Latin American cities having a hard time. Evoca its the mix between the first two where peace and violence find them selves in a catarchic release of energy. Symple Symmetry brings the tempo up for their Nada Nada remix asking everyone "what happens after death".

  2. Never Alone (7:19)
  3. Hot Hot (5:47)
  4. NRG Mix (7:55)
Review: Jimmy Asquith of Lobster Theremin fame presents a second round of lean and mean DJ tools for those who want a bit of personality rubbed into their rhythm tracks. "Hard Skippin (Cream Mix)" is exactly what the title suggests, pivoting around a dutsty, swinging house beat that would sound right at home on Jus' Trax. "Never Alone" is more straight and stripped, while "Hot Hot" gets into a twitchy NYC groove. "NRG Mix" flips the script entirely with a snappy grime beat that should pepper all kinds of sets with interesting percussive accents when required. Classy beat tracks with a vintage finish to suit all manner of party persuasions.

Big Bad Crazy (1/2) (transparent red vinyl 12")

  1. Daggers Drawn (7:31)
  2. It's My Time (6:57)
  3. Blow By Blow (7:19)
  4. The Pursuit (5:34)
Review: It's been six years since Martin "Atjazz" Iveson started mentoring South African producer Jullian Gomes, and five since they last released any collaborative material. Perhaps they shouldn't have left it so long, because the material showcased here is exceptionally good. The standout for us is undoubtedly breezy soulful deep house jam "It's My Time", though EP opener "Daggers Drawn", a suitably symphonic and musically complex cut that pairs atmospheric orchestration and electronics with a snappy, tech-house beat, is almost as inspired. Elsewhere, "Blow By Blow" is a spacey and woozy number rich in broken house beats, and "The Pursuit" is a swinging, triple time workout that draws heavily on Gomes' South African heritage.

  1. Decoded (6:19)

  3. Love Me (7:25)
  4. Empty Paradise (6:55)
Review: Atjazz chief Martin Iveson teams up with South African producer and label staple Jullian Gomes for a collection of sublime hi-tech soul expressions on the second part of the Big Bad Crazy album. It follows on five years after their exceptional debut collaboration The Gift The Curse and 'points out the broken state of our world, and .. the ongoing struggle to make it through the pain.' Indeed, they're all emotive offerings here: from the life-affirming daydream fantasy of "Decoded", the perfect chord progressions on "Don Esquire" (sure to get everybody's hands in the air) right through to the mysterious dancefloor drama of "Love Me". Here's to hoping it's not another five years before the pair choose to collaborate once more.

Review: An explosive line-up awaits you on the sophomore release on Spanish imprint Lifestyle. Their various artist EP ropes in the very best in underground tech house. From Berlin based purveyor of the deep Nick Beringer on the dubby and hypnotic "Habitat", the return of Bologna's Fabrizio Maurizi on the deep minimalism of "Dorothy's Dream" while on the flip two heroes of the Romanian scene pump up: Laurentiu Suciu aka Faster (hot off releases on Acme and Ruere) with the reduced groove dynamics of "HD" and the always impressive Melodie doing his idiosyncratic style of acid on "Double".

Review: Brian Cullen's Bjak project provides the learned house producer with a chance to reach dizzying, transcendental heights through a hazy, soul and jazz indebted approach as spiritual as it is groove-oriented. Having previously charmed the likes of Deep Explorer and Eargasmic, the debut Bjak album now lands on sympathetic Swiss outpost deepArtSounds, where Cullen will be keeping fine company with the likes of Ron Trent, Above Smoke, Trinidadian Deep and many more. It's a sumptuous listen overflowing with buttery keys, smoky trumpets and expressive, organic rhythms to get all true-school deep house heads nodding with approval. Just check the beatbox flow of "Groove Train" with its canny fusion of ear-catching sampling and accomplished musicianship.

Review: The Splendor & Squalour boys aka Brame & Hamo are back, to deliver more of the trademark blend of house and disco on their eponymous imprint's fourth release. The Celebrity Impersonator EP features four dynamic cuts by the pairing of Conor Hamilton & Tiarnan McMorrow, such as the shimmering boogie-down antics of ''Midnight Express'', the raved-up tunnel vision of the tile track, and saving the best for last with the melodic power bliss of "Request Rhythm".

Review: Hot new French label Happiness Therapy run by ascendant DJ/producer Crowd Control proudly presents a brilliant double header following up a great inauguration by CC himself and Popka. HT02 features Vancouverite Jesse Bru on the A side, with the late night dusty deepness of "Uncle Frank" (which ventures into hypnotic acid territory later on) followed by the emotive and bittersweet vibe of "Good Life" which is absolutely wonderful. On the flip, rising Welshman Harrison BDP brings the goods as always: with the immersive dub techno flavour of "Eternal Space" followed by "Parallax" which similarly explores the cavernous and glacial aesthetics of Basic Channel and Echospace.

Review: Frazer Campbell turns his hand to a fair few different kinds of dancefloor material, but there's a consistent deep techno pulse that joins the dots between, for example, his appearance on Mosaic Records and this sample-laden drop on his own Counterfeit Soul. Gladys Knight's take on "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" gets refigured in the swirling, early morning cruiser "Glad Its All Knight." Lauryn Hill's classic "Doo Wop" gets sprinkled into a sprightly peak time tech house workout entitled "Laurenz Hillz," Alexander O'Neal's "Criticize" features in the sultry "Alexo Kneel" and airy closing cut "Mr Green's Envy" weaves a little Al Green magic into the mix.

Review: "Caruso are back after a long time away on Swiss imprint deepArtSounds having previously only released on Manchesters Ten Lovers Music label. Different is the lead track featuring the amazing vocals of Helen McCormack which also is reworked by the equally incredibly talented Trinidadian Deep in his own unique style. Dan Piu also supplies some fine re-edits of Caruso tracks Tobacco and Pure Sound. Caruso's Steve Conry and Cormac Fulton are working on lots of new material. This will be the first of many new releases.
