  1. Hard Skippin' (Cream mix) (5:28)
  2. Never Alone (7:19)
  3. Hot Hot (5:47)
  4. NRG Mix (7:55)
Review: Jimmy Asquith of Lobster Theremin fame presents a second round of lean and mean DJ tools for those who want a bit of personality rubbed into their rhythm tracks. "Hard Skippin (Cream Mix)" is exactly what the title suggests, pivoting around a dutsty, swinging house beat that would sound right at home on Jus' Trax. "Never Alone" is more straight and stripped, while "Hot Hot" gets into a twitchy NYC groove. "NRG Mix" flips the script entirely with a snappy grime beat that should pepper all kinds of sets with interesting percussive accents when required. Classy beat tracks with a vintage finish to suit all manner of party persuasions.

  1. Glad Its All Knight (7:11)
  2. Laurenz Hillz (6:38)
  3. Alexo Kneel (6:13)
  4. Mr Green's Envy (7:20)
Review: Frazer Campbell turns his hand to a fair few different kinds of dancefloor material, but there's a consistent deep techno pulse that joins the dots between, for example, his appearance on Mosaic Records and this sample-laden drop on his own Counterfeit Soul. Gladys Knight's take on "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" gets refigured in the swirling, early morning cruiser "Glad Its All Knight." Lauryn Hill's classic "Doo Wop" gets sprinkled into a sprightly peak time tech house workout entitled "Laurenz Hillz," Alexander O'Neal's "Criticize" features in the sultry "Alexo Kneel" and airy closing cut "Mr Green's Envy" weaves a little Al Green magic into the mix.

Accidental Meetings EP (12" repress) (1 per customer)
Cat: IDWT 001. Rel: 05 Dec 18
  1. Accidental Meetings (6:28)
  2. North Pole Cafe (6:12)
  3. United Identities (8:21)
  4. Distorted Fields (5:50)
Review: Chaos In The CBD launch their new label, In Dust We Trust. The imprint is a collaboration between the London-based Kiwi brothers (Ben and Louis Helliker-Hales) and their friend Jon Sable. This release, Accidental Meetings, inaugurates the new label. Starting off with the dusty, soulful and emotive title track which is reminiscent of classic Nick Holder with its sultry vocals atop, they're then into some emotive hi-tech soul on "North Pole Cafe". But they save the best for last with the great vibes of "United Identities" which channels that same life affirming groove as their recent track "Natural Taboo" on the Craigie Knowles compilation: only this one gets some serious Latin rhythms happening much like Joe Claussell circa "Je Ka Jo". Choice!

Multiverse EP (12" repress)

  1. Multiverse (5:36)
  2. Double Dribble (5:57)
  3. Kaitaia Fire (6:40)
  4. Drum Therapy (6:30)
Review: By now we should know that Chaos In The CBD barely gets it wrong. In fact, we can't think of one duff moment in their rapidly expanding discography. Certainly, there's much to set the pulse racing throughout the Multiverse EP, which happens to be their first missive of 2018. We're particularly enjoying the Adonis-goes-deep bassline, becalmed chords, druggy acid lines and bongo-laden beats of opener "Multiverse" and the humid tropical house hustle of B-side opener "Kaitaia Fire" - deep and woozy, yet percussively adventurous - but the whole EP is superb. The other two cuts, "Double Dribble" and "Drum Therapy", are altogether deeper and calmer, with the latter also feeling wonderfully hypnotic in tone, too.

Disco For Lonely Heart (hand-stamped 12" repress)

  1. You're Losing Me (5:54)
  2. Club For Lonely Heart (5:00)
  3. Get Loose (5:18)
  4. Good Friend G (6:18)
Review: 12 months on from his last disco-fired edit outing, Route 8 once again dons the DJ Ciderman alias to lay down some more party-starting, peak-time workouts. He begins with "You're Losing Me", a chunky, housed-up version of an old funk-soul killer, before charging off on a solo-heavy disco-funk revision trip via the risijg horns, swirling strings and heavy house grooves of "Club For Lonely Heart". The peak-time pressure continues on the flipside, first via the rubbery bass guitar-heavy brilliance of "Get Loose", before rounding off a fine EP of heavyweight reworks via the synth-laden Afro-disco breeziness of killer closer "Good Friend G". As the old saying goes, this is all killer and no filler.

  1. Sexy Aquarian (9:16)
  2. Pinball Machine (6:24)
  3. What’s Mine Is Mine (8:26)
  4. The Spirit (7:21)
Review: DJ Pierre continues to be an unstoppable force in rabble-rousing, party-starting house music after he practically wrote the rule book back in the 1980s, and he's feeling particularly feisty on "Jack City Vol 1". "Sexy Aquarius" uses a great accapella from "Let No Man Put Asunder," while "Pinball Machine" draws on Salsoul Orchestra's "Love Break," but Pierre creates entirely modern club workouts for these iconic sounds to land in. "What's Mine Is Mine" is a delightfully tweaked out affair, but hold tight for the sublime tones of "The Spirit," which does a beautiful but equally jacking job with Deniece Williams.

Review: Canadian disco dude Eddie C is back on Japan's Endless Flight, a label he has become a known staple of, with over a dozen releases in the last eight years alone, following up recent releases on Common Edit, Barefoot Beats and his own Red Motorbike. The Berlin by way of Banff producer gets deep down and dusty on the smooth jam "Horizon", followed by the super soulful groove of "Wanna Feel Free" on the flip, before closing with the seriously lo-slung funk on the wicked dub version.

  1. Two Dancing (7:10)
  2. That's Cool (5:15)
  3. Archy Krules (Moomin remix) (7:07)
  4. Archy Krules (6:42)
Review: Aussie deep house maverick Jad & The seems to have ditched his long standing muse these days, and it shows on this lastest missive on Julius Steinhoff's Down By The Lake imprint. This single is filled with four splendid dusted down and deeply executed jams perfect for heartfelt moments on late night dancefloors. Highlights include the romantic, smoky "Two Dancing", the sultry heat of "That's Cool" with its emotive clarinet lead and strong percussive elements, and Moomin's hazy, emotive remix of "Archy Krules" on the flip. With its rough 'n' tough breaks, gloomy chords and cut up samples throughout - this is one seriously moody but groovy number.

Faux Polynesia EP (12" in hand-stamped sleeve)
Cat: PHONICAWHITE 020. Rel: 05 Dec 18
  1. Faux Polynesia (7:39)
  2. System (7:08)
  3. This One's For You (6:17)
Review: We were rather impressed by "The Premise EP", Kassian's (Joe Danvers and Warren Cummings) Heist Recordings-released debut single. If anything, this follow-up on Phonica White is even better. Title track "Faux Polynesia" is particularly potent. While its musical elements tend towards the ultra-deep - think smoky vocal samples, gentle (synth) trumpet lines and dreamy chords you can get lost in - these are underpinned by a bustling, heavyweight rhythm track that's packed with peak-time energy. In other words, it's hazy and intoxicating, but has enough guts to raise the temperature out on the dancefloor. Elsewhere on the EP, "System" delivers a looser late night blend of swinging, New Jersey-influenced percussion, jammed out chords, alien synth washes and glassy-eyed vocal snippets. It, too, is superb.

Cat: DH 016. Rel: 07 Dec 18
  1. The Organism - "Reflection" (8:12)

  3. Soft Metal - "Mystic Trip To Al-Dzazir" (9:36)
  4. Mount Kismet - "Prunes & Dunes" (5:29)
Review: Disco Halal is, apparently, a big fan of "perfect strangers", described in the spiel accompanying this compilation style EP as "those people you will have a short encounter with that may change your life". Some may find the music on the label's Perfect Strangers EP life changing - check, for example, the chugging, early morning disco psychedelia of The Organism's "Reflection", which sounds like it could be capable of inspiring involuntary hallucinations, or the drifting Arabic flutes, delay-laden Middle Eastern vocals and rolling hand percussion of Kincaid's superb "Tyrant". Both are intoxicating in the best possible way. Elsewhere, the woozy nu-disco/deep-house/Arabic Italo-disco fusion of Mount Kismet's exotic closer "Prunes and Dunes" is also hugely enjoyable.

Cat: IDLE 055. Rel: 06 Dec 18
  1. Orphan (6:24)
  2. Lundgatan (7:18)
  3. Esqpads (7:34)
Review: Idle Hands has released a lot of good music over the years, but little that's quite as instantly rush-inducing as "Orphan", the A-side to Stockholm producer Pistol Pete's first 12" for the Bristol institution. Warm, melodious and loved-up to the max, it sits somewhere between the piano-powered techno rush of Shed's Head High project and the sort of dusty deep house that seems so popular in Europe right now. It has the feel of a summer anthem in waiting, though it will provide its own audio sunshine if you drop it in a dark club in the middle of winter. The B-side cuts are a little deeper but no less touchy-feely in vibe, with the loopy, soulful warmth of "Lundgatan" being followed by the groovy, head-in-the-clouds deep house hypnotism of "Esqpads".

Review: Fresh from contributing a quality cut to a recent Slices of Life 12", sometime Brouqade stalwart Dana Ruh makes her first appearance on French producer Molly's RDV Music imprint. Like her other recent releases, "4 Leaf Clover" is full of Ruh's trademark blend of deep house attitude and tech-house grooves. This is best exemplified by gently jacking opener "Natural High", where spacey chords and slowly cascading melodies lounge around a bold analogue bassline and snappy machine drums. "Moonday" is a techno-tempo affair rich in ricocheting late night riffs and wiggly acid lines, while "Vattenfall My A" is a locked-in, late night tech-house treat. Molly remixes the latter, giving in a deeper, dub techno influenced feel.

Perugia EP (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: LVNO 16. Rel: 03 Dec 18
  1. Perugia 1989 (5:17)
  2. Bella Ciao (5:14)
  3. My Brother, Dani (5:43)
Review: Nick Anthony Simoncino is the perfect choice to add to the ever-expanding Love Notes narrative. His classically rooted, passionate approach to hardware house music chimes with previous 'Noters like Octo Octa and Casey Tucker, and the quality is as high on this 12" as one of his many appearances on Creme Organization or Vibraphone, to name but a few. "Perugia 1989" is quintessential Simoncino - simple in its construction but beautifully engineered with all emphasis on an undulating bassline. "Bella Ciao" is a more tense cut that uses some nervy synth phrases to eke out a trance-indebted mood, and then "My Brother, Dani" maintains the theme with a dramatic use of space and jittery percussion.
