  3. Boden (feat Lipelis) (7:29)
  4. Boden (part 2) (6:10)
Review: Low Budget Family is a Moscow-based label related to DS Bar, run by Sergey Pleshakov and Leonid Lipelis. Their next release is by Pasha Mikheev aka Cable Toy: a former game soundtracks/ad music maker who found himself attending parties more frequently in recent years and eventually making dance music himself. "Doktorhaus" is his debut release and features the raw/jacking early Chicago vibe of the title track (feat SBP4) on the A side, while on the flip label co-head Lipelis teams up with Mikheev on two neon-lit and evocative versions of "Boden".

  2. Nov.7.2010 (Manuel Costela 4 Love remix)) (8:05)
  3. Happy Sunshine (6:41)
  4. Happy Sunshine (Ney Faustini remix) (7:06)
Review: Manuel Costela's Bucketround label has always moved at a mellow pace, so it's no surprise to see it casually slide back into view after a couple of years out. Tominori Hosoya is a fine choice to steer the return of the label - the producer has been busy in the past few years releasing high grade deep house on labels like Mixx Records and Minuendo. Opening with the airy, subliminal sound of "Nov.7.2010," it's clear Hosoya is more than comfortable in the corner of deep house inhabited by Fred P, Dubbyman et al. "Happy Sunshine" is equally mellow, although with a little more machine soul bite than its predecessor. Costela jumps on with a subtle re-rub of "Nov.7.2010" while Ney Faustini takes on "Happy Sunshine," reducing it to an atmospheric minimal house groove.

Day Job (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: COB 13. Rel: 15 Apr 19
  1. Subpoenad (6:03)
  2. Day Job (8:34)
  3. POV (5:30)
Review: Washington DC's Justin Nouhra has been intermittently slipping out high grade minimal house on labels like Silence In Metropolis and Cahoots for the past five years, and now he's been snapped up by Courtesy Of Balance for an impressive three-tracker loaded with shimmering tones and elegant grooves. "Subpoenad" has an irresistible bump and some starry eyed synth flairs that melt into the ears very easily indeed. "Day Job" follows a similar tact, with some more pronounced chords punching through the mix. "POV" rounds the EP off with a bugging bouncer of a track, and yet more of those pristine, sweetly filtered tones amidst the slender drums.

  1. Time Guard (Archie Hamilton) (8:35)
  2. Time Guard (Noha remix) (7:54)
Review: Following the hot off the press drop "Time Guard", Lazare Hoche taps up a pair of remixers to provide fresh angles on his latest transmission. First up is Moscow Records' Archie Hamilton, who whips up a propulsive, bubbling techno roller laden with lush melodic content. On the flip, regular Hamilton collaborator Noha serves up a twinkling, mysterious strutter that should sink under the skin nice and easy in the late morning sessions Lazare Hoche records are so well suited to. Using spooky off key synth licks and a steady ticking beat, Noha provides a worthwhile new twist on the original's vintage techno sound.

  1. Better Believe It Baby (3:01)
  2. Catch Ya (5:47)
  3. Cheat (1:51)
  4. Pull Ovaa (7:47)
Review: What more can be said about the output of Alex 'Omar' Smith? The Detroiter's releases have perhaps been a little more varied of late than we've come to expect, but the quality nevertheless remains dizzyingly high. This white label excursion is full of floor-friendly gems, with Smith's use of classic house samples and familiar vocal samples also making it one of his most party-hearted releases for a while. Check, for example, "Catch Ya", where a much-loved turn-of-the-'90s acapella rises above bouncy New Jersey organs and snappy machine drums. "Better Believe It Baby" brilliantly wraps a chiming synth loop and R&B style vocal snippets around a chunky, disco-fired deep house beat, while "Cheat" and "Pull Ovaa" are deliciously dusty, bass-heavy deep house workouts with just the right amount of hypnotic late night charm.

  1. It's Okay To Dance (7:22)
  2. Beam Myself Into The Future (6:46)
  3. Klasszik (6:15)
Review: Possibly frustrated by clubs full of barely shuffling punters, Hungarian producer Route 8 has delivered his musical manifesto to get people up and moving. "It's Okay To Dance", the title track on this fine EP, should help to get the party started. Delightfully retro-futurist and peak-time ready, it subtly shifts between riff-laden warehouse flavours and the kind of sumptuous, string-laden deep house that should put a smile on the face of all but the most miserable of clubbers. He opts for a slightly darker and more trippy vibe on the driving, acid-flecked tech-house jam "Beam Myself Into The Future", before channeling the spirit of Deep Dish classic "Stay Gold" on the warm and loved-up EP closer "Klasszik".

  3. Keep Flying (KiNK & KEi remix 2018) (6:09)
  4. Keep Flying (KiNK & KEi remix) (6:51)
Review: Endless Flight, sublabel of Mule Musiq, describe Slope114 as one of the best kept secret artists in the Bay Area. "Modular synth maniacs" Dmitri LHP and Elise Gargalikis who run the project and eponymous label together comes good with the trippy and tunnelling "Keep Flying" 12" featuring a wonderful vocal delivery to compliment the track's hypnotic groove. On the flip, KiNK & KEi's are on remix duties with two versions - proper dancefloor drama vibes complete with hoover basslines, tense strings and pounding drums - giving a whole new dimension to the original.

  3. Lola Allen & Vincent Inc - "NuDisco Book 1" (7:25)
  4. Vincent Inc - "Time Machine" (Julian Sanza remix) (6:22)
Review: 14th Level Of Paradise come good with another stunning selection of high grade jams from core members of their crew. Vincent Floyd drops a remix of Vincent Inc that leans in heavy on a wistful early 90s sound that splits the difference between B12, Stasis and Larry Heard. Lola Allen and Vincent Inc's "Gonna Be Alright" takes things slower and spacier, while their "NuDisco Book 1" locks into a classic slice of disco funk to set the floor ablaze. Julian Sanza remixes Vincent Inc's "Time Machine" to close out the EP, taking a sophisticated, sweet natured approach to disco house.

Review: According to Catz 'N' Dogs, their new album "Friendship" was inspired by the role friends, collaborators and partners have played in their runaway success. There's certainly a warm, fuzzy and loved-up feel throughout, with the pair making great use of some top-drawer guest vocalists and collaborators (see James Yuill's fine vocals on deep breakbeat-pop jam "There", the deep house/two-step garage fusion of Zensofly and Maxville hook-up "Wave" and the sun-kissed indie-dance shimmer of WhoMadeWho collaboration "Never Go Down"). Intriguingly, there are just as many sofa-bound sound diversions (skewed hip-hop, downtempo pop and so on) as riotous dancefloor excursions (the piano-happy "New Love" being the standout), making for an accessible and hugely entertaining set that rewards repeat listens.

Review: Quavius finally follows up on his self-titled debut LP for Lustwerk Music three years later, and it's worth the wait. As you'd expect of an artist snapped up by the close-knit crew Galcher Lustwerk orbits, there's a hazy, dreamlike mood lingering over all the tracks on "Find Ready", but there's plenty of variety taking place within that context. "Heaven Is In You" is as peppy as it is spaced out, while "Let It Rock" lays down a melancholic synth twist on trap. There's spacey acid, dusty, mechanical house and plenty more besides. Fun, varied and drawing on an angle that's all his own, Quavius has more than delivered on the promise of his first record.
