Review: Following years spent flitting between labels including Smallville, Closer and Wolf Music Recordings, Sebastian Genz AKA Moomin landed on Turkish imprint Oath four years ago. After a surprise period of silence, he's back on the label with Into The Distance - his first full-length excursion in eight years. Given his impressive track record, it's no surprise to find that he's delivered the goods once more. For proof, check the twinkling pianos, spacey chords and shuffling deep house beats of 'Things Left Behind', the dreamy breakbeat business of 'Into The Distance', the jazzy downtempo deepness of 'Island Dreams', the sun-splashed dancefloor colour of 'A Way Out', and the hushed jazz-house perfection of 'Night Moves'.

Review: This new one from Stefan Ringer on his FWM Entertainment combines two distinct releases in one: 3 tracks from his 2021 Meta Music EP and his darker alias Black Sued's 'Rogue' EP. It's a yin-yang journey of sound that shows his range and quality. 'Monotone' pairs signature deep chords and soulful vocals and distorted bass with minimal drums, while 'New Plan' is a driving, rhythmic workout of persistence and groove. 'YIA' offers meditative chords and affirmations set against a thunderstorm backdrop and the flip, the title cut explores shadowy jazz textures with a mysterious groove, 'Maze' marches forward with urgency and layered rhythm, while 'Deep Dirt' closes with gritty, broken-machine chaos. Together, these EPs make for a powerful emotional and sonic contrast.

Review: Mike Popov is the musician behind the I Gemin project, which was conceived as a way of working disco style and sampling into his house tracks. And the results are brilliantly effective and charming. 'Introfall (Autumn)' makes for a low-slung downtempo start, 'Come Together' brings horn-led disco house fun and 'Black Tea Groove' sinks into a fat-bottomed and dubby rhythm alive with magical synth flourishes. The blissed out 'Summer Breeze' is an escapist charmer, and the flipside features three more exquisite genre studies that have real heart and authenticity.

Back In The Days
Usual Madness
Review: Tel Aviv-based producer Khen delivers two tightly controlled house cuts on the third release from Roy Rosenfeld's No Drama label. 'Back in the Days' sets a clipped vocal loop against shuffling percussion and subtle modulation, keeping the structure linear while allowing space for small, deliberate shifts. The groove never breaks stride but changes just enough to maintain momentum without overplaying its hand. On the B-side, 'Usual Madness' adds melodic detail without clutter. Arpeggiated synths glide over a buoyant low end, with background textures folding in gradually. A brief drop strips things back before a final build adds tension, not drama. Both tracks are engineered with clarity and economy, leaning on arrangement rather than effects to hold attention. It's functional but thoughtful material that's built for extended play without overstating itself.

Review: Gold polygon masked producer (only the best of them wear them) Satin Jackets returns with a laid-back blend of lush grooves and breezy melodies, perfectly attuned for moments of ease and escape. Drawing from a string of singles released over recent years since 2010 for the likes of Nu Indee and Eskimo, Cruise Control has an unshakable sense of atmos and rhythm, as a drench of sun washes over each production. The German producer shapes his compositions in solitude before bringing in collaborators who elevate the mood, whether through serendipitous connections with David Bay and Small Black, or the instant spark of a friend's bassline transforming a stuck idea into a standout hook. Listeners often comment on the uplift they feel in his work, and it's clear he prioritises that sense of instant musical chemistry.

Review: For the uninitiated, Rotation Sound System is a collective of veteran crate diggers, DJs, producers and party promoters spearheaded by Mind Fair's Dean Meredith and Ben Shenton, and Wreckin' Havoc trio Rob J, Stuart Robinson and Rich Hall. For years they've thrown an annual garden party (using their custom soundsystem of the same name) and now Leng has offered them a chance to curate their own comp. As you'd expect, the 12-track collection is piled high with largely unknown gems, from the tactile, syntth-heavy Balearic breeze of Moondata's 'Let The Sunshine In (Dub)' and Roger Renning's chugging dub disco aligned 'Cecelia', to the oddball boogie-pop of 'Music' by Amy Cooper, the Italo-disco inspired throb of Michael Heart's 'Some Girls (Instrumental)' and the loved-up synth-pop-goes-proto-house of Jean Louis Murat's 'To Garder Pres De Moi (Dream Remix)'.

Review: A powerful tribute to the seminal sound of Berlin's dub techno pioneers Basic Channel when Soma released it in 1995, this deep, timeless techno track from Glasgow's MacKinnon's has grown in reputation over the last 30 years. Side-A, 'X Trak 1', delivers an epic journey of fast, dark techno that pulsates with energy, perfect for the dancefloor. The track's transcendent melody echoes the spirit of classic rave nights, creating a rich atmosphere that is both intense and deep. Side 2, 'X Trak 2', adds big chord stabs and a stomping rhythm, offering a more driving and forceful techno experience. The track's power and energy shine through, as it channels the same minimalist yet emotional vibe that made this sound so iconic. This reissue celebrates a hidden gem that has gained cult status over time.

Review: Chicago great Boo Williams has not had the best of times of late, with various health scares leaving him bed-bound and in need of financial assistance to pay costly medical bills. No doubt royalties from the sale of this EP - a reissue of the long-serving deep house producer's 1999 Nuclear Transit EP - will help. Of course, it's an EP that is well worth adding to your collection regardless of Williams' issues. Opener 'Trance Fusion', for example, is one of his most hypnotic, warm and tactile tracks to date while 'No Man's Land' offers a more electronic-sounding slab of locked-in headiness. Elsewhere, 'Teckno Drome' sees Williams join the dots between chunky deep house and the star-lit futurism of Motor City dance music, while 'Tree of Life' is a gorgeous trip into spacey deep house positivity.

Review: The Purple Print family welcomes Loopdeville for a four-track exploration of late-night minimal and tech that is big on atmosphere. 'Insomniac 300' pairs rubbery, juddery drums and loopy synths with watery droplets for a nice heady start. 'Trippy Tits' is an afterparty classic in the mould of early Villalobos and 'Dig Bicks' layers dubby undercurrents with swirling, smudged vocal sounds for more zoned out 5 am sessions. Last but not least, 'Where Witches Find Peace' taps into the Melchior school of minimalism with its frictionless drum loops and deft aesthetic touch, all soon to hypnotise.

A Trance To Remember
Review: French producer DJ Psychiatre returns with four nuanced cuts that balance groove and introspection in equal measure. 'Moving Into Jazz' is a layered opener, gradually unfolding with warm keys, dubbed-out vocal loops and slow-burning acid that rides a subtle percussive swell. 'Those DJs' pushes further with syncopated kick-snare patterns, ghostly chords and a restless bassline that gives the track a fluid, dreamlike pulse. On the flip, 'Iced Lemon' deploys arpeggios, euphoric pads and shifting rhythms to heady effect-a deep, mid-set lifter with real movement. Closing track 'A Trance To Remember' lives up to its name: propulsive but restrained, with filtered vocals and gliding harmonics tracing out a tender finale. Though rooted in house, the EP hints at electro, jazz, and ambient overtones-hallmarks of a producer with a rich musical lexicon and a flair for emotional tension.

It's a brand new release, recorded live with no computersijust raw musicianship and hands-on energy. They hail from the suburbs of Jo'burg which is where they have cooked up these seriously flavoursome and stripped-back sounds. Review: Following fine early outings on House Puff, Tessellate and Dansu Discs, T Jacques co-founded the Nuances De Nuit label. While that outlet has been his main home for the last few years, he still occasionally guests on other imprints. It's what the rising star is doing here, making his first appearance on Gene On Earth's popular tech-house/deep house fusion imprint Limousine Dream. He begins with the warm and woozy 'Houze Control', a thickset slab of loose-limbed deep house excellent peppered with spacey synth sounds, before combining intergalactic tech-house sounds with chunky grooves on title track 'Fingertips'. Over on the reverse, 'Inside Out' is a slightly tougher - but no less bass-heavy or intergalactic-sounding - workout, while '2 Hi' is deep, dubby gear for very late nights and early mornings.

The former has been crafting deeply melodic and synth-laced house and techno soundscapes for some time and opens with 'Blues In Flight' which is all jacked-up beats and wispy, astral melodies and pads. Laak offers a more slinky and garage-infused sound on 'Apophis' and layers it up with twinkling modulations. Then comes a Laak Retroflex remix of the opener that reworks it into a deeper and more heads down sound before the Life Recorder House 2 Jazz mix of 'Apophis' explores cosmic jazz keys and shimmering deep house beats.

The longtime Chicago selector and Gramaphone mainstay has spent years gently refining his sound: clean, club-conscious, and unmistakably steeped in the US house tradition. But this is different. 'Play2Win' kicks things off with a mean streak - stripped-back but twitchy, all pressure and paranoia, like he's dialled into the dead-eyed hour just before sunrise. 'Grow Up' flips the mood entirely: warmer, wiser, swung to perfection, like Mood II Swing after a week off social media. On the B-side, things stretch out. 'Livin' Under Clouds (Zenzitiv Dub)' is pure humid hypnosis - chords refracted into dubby bliss, with just enough grit to keep your shoulders moving. 'Subaqua' closes the set in high style, with melodic flourishes rising and falling like breath. There's no filler here, no nostalgia trip - just deep house with real personality. Butter Side Up is fast becoming one of the most dependable labels in the UK. With this one, they've struck gold - again.

Review: Another Cheap Thrill's byline is "cool shit when we feel like it", perhaps even rivalling We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want Records in affective coolness (just remember, if you want to succeed in today's music ecology, make sure to project an aura of listless ease). The Newcastle label present here a brand new one from our favourite noughts-10s indie disco graphers Django Django, the London quartet formed of Dave Maclean, Jimmy Dixon, Tommy Grace and Vincent Neff. It adds to the long tradition of limited 12"s largely released by the band through Because Music, but 'Home' is different: its ultra-polished indie disco falsettos and synthy steel-pan-esque progressions reveal a band happily devoted to the art of the single. Not to mention *that* version from Man Power, which has Mr Fingers' ghostly fingers all over it...

Review: Edinburgh's Barry Can't Swim wattles organic textural elements around progressive house and techno emotes, inviting comparisons to Fred Again's pyjama-wearing, electronic cousin. Bursting on to the scene in the early 20s with bedroomy, Bandcamp self-starters like 'Different' and 'I Don't Want To Be Here', the common thread in Barry's oeuvre has become known as one of introspection, isolation and regression to childhood. Loner now hears him delve ever deeper into his establishing unthought known, one of solitary but deep-feeling inner world-building, matching the tremulous intensity of his fluid, jam sesh live shows.

Review: Another sureshot heater from a magnificent underground label with a cult following, Adeen Records drops AR026, a landmark release uniting two titans of house music: New York's legendary Pal Joey (Joseph Longo) and Chicago's iconic voice Robert Owens. Side A's 'The Me Inside' is a masterclass in deep, soulful club music. Joey lays down a signature groove-hard-hitting drums and lush piano chords-while Owens bares his soul, asking listeners to witness the vulnerable core of his artistry. It's a heartfelt vocal performance rooted in classic Chicago house, paired perfectly with Joey's unmistakable production style. An instrumental follows, ideal for DJs keeping the vibe deep and emotive. Flip to Side B and you'll find Paolo Aniello aka New Digital Fidelity bringing the heat. Known for his work on Snuff Trax and collaborations with house luminaries, Paolo delivers a pulsing, bass-heavy dub remix that's built for peak-time floors. When legends align, magic happens-AR026 is a future classic.

Review: Yorkshire-born producer Franky Wah joins Crosstown Rebels with a polished, emotionally resonant four-tracker that fuses vocal-driven depth with peak-time muscle. Collaborating on two cuts with Brighton-based trio Kuuda, he leans into a widescreen sound that's equal parts club-primed and cinematic. 'Disconnect' sets the tone with icy synth washes and a dramatic vocal line, while 'Off The Wall' pushes further into afterhours haze, Kuuda's warped harmonies curling around a muscular rhythm section. The B-side delivers weight and tension: 'Desert Dance' channels trance and techno into a low-slung, hypnotic throb, while 'Freak In The Sheets' snaps and growls with basement energy. Wah's affinity for the big-room emotional payoff remains intact, but it's paired here with restraint and atmosphere that makes each drop land with greater intent. With years of major bookings and releases behind him, this feels like a confident, sharp-edged update from one of the UK's more melodic voices.

Review: Ever-reliable Detroit veteran Rick Wade returns to the equally on-point Rawax with a suitably bumping set of house cuts. The 'Night Trackin' EP kicks off with the brilliantly titled 'Angry Jazz', where dusty drums and murky bass notes drive sinister funk synths in a determined dancefloor direction. 'Night Track' sees jazzy chords floating over shuffling beats and low-slung bass for a heads-down moment of introspection, before the glistening vibes melody on 'Your Love' and soul-rich vocal add a little honey to the ho-ho pot. Finally, the vintage soul samples of 'I Can't Take It' loop into infinity, with rugged drums powering the relentlessly funky groove.

Nodding to the many sun-drenched euphorias personally experienced in Ibiza, this is a true live-it-up house record. Panned organs and subtle vocals take centre stage on the A1, while the B 'Love Triangle' complicates things with a beachside love involution. Midway moment 'Take Control', meanwhile, marks the record's pivotal shift from organ-led emotion to a percussive lock-in.

Hixon is particularly good at combining analogue electronics (especially vintage drum machine beats) and more organic sounds with lashings of trippy effects and curious samples. He does that masterfully on this four-tracker, skipping between the deep, rolling bass, looped vocal snippets and crunchy beats of 'Get In The Mood', the deep tech-house DJ tool that is 'Drumloop 1', the dusty, minor-key shuffle of title track 'Hustle', and the ultra-deep hypnotism of 'Scared of June'.

Review: Dallas-based Ben Hixon has long been one of the key contributors to the catalogue of hometown label Dolfin Records, most recently co-producing a swathe of cuts on fellow Texan J.T Donaldson's most recent EP. Here he returns to solo action with a typically assured two-tracker. Check first A-side 'Cuming Inside', where warming Fender Rhodes motifs, squelchy synths, cut-up soul vocal snippets and warming bass cluster around a crunchy drum machine beat and jammed-out melodic motifs. He opts for an even deeper and more alien-sounding construction on flipside 'MMM!', an early morning workout that sounds perfect at that point when minds and bodies are entering the hallucinatory realm.

One such artist is Guillermo aka Existencia Pasajera, whose work has been shaped in southern Chile and so smartly reflects the region's newly emerging creative depth. This new release captures his fluid, expressive keyboard style and opens with the trippy and psychedelic loops of 'Haunted House' before 'The Brujo' gets more dark and menacing. The new EP echoes the not entirely capturable original virtue of Detroit house, though we also hear green-skinned ETs laying surreal laser descenders over spiked beats, alienating the style from its motoric origins. 'Saved' also nods to Chicago acid, but its whale-song echoes strip an original croon of its scantness, plunging an invocation to Chi-town into a Europan alien sea. 'Love Anthem', meanwhile, on the flip, provides a pointed swing and exhalatory voice, echoing Omar S with its gritty analogues.

We suspect - though cannot confirm - that he's at the control on this latest instalment in the series, which feature two house reworks of classic cuts. On A-side 'In The Know', he delivers a killer slab of warehouse-ready hip-house, where a familiar, high-octane rap rides heavy-but-bouncy beats, an infectious bassline and occasional blasts of the infamous (and much-sampled) 'Apache' break. Over on side B, 'Square Hole' is a housed-up take on a Steely Dan classic previously sampled by De La Soul. Both cuts are bona fide party classics in the making.

'Utility' jolts things into motion with snaking low-end and warped FX, slipping in and out of jagged tech shapes. The sparring synth jolts of 'Electrolyte' feel more frenetic, its thwacking groove and dubby vocal chops making for a proper headrush. On the flip, 'Breathe' trades upfront energy for depth, layering smoked-out subs beneath lattices of percussion. 'Stay Playful' edges toward tribal house but keeps its sci-fi freakiness intact. Review: Hot Creations gathers four peak-time weapons from across the label's recent catalogue, with an emphasis on upfront UK energy. Manchester's Goosey links with Dope Earth Alien on 'Funky Shit', a wobbly, sub-heavy club cut built around slick swung drums and warped vocal refrains. 'Proper Whopper' from Murphy's Law, Sam Curran and Harry Unsworth fires off booming low-end and pitch-bent sirens with the kind of swagger that suits high-tempo basements and outdoor stages alike. Sidney Charles offers a sleeker counterpoint on 'Disco Bumpin', layering Aleya Mae's melodic vocals over rubbery synths and crisp house drums. Rounding it out is Sao Paulo's nocapz, whose 'Gettin' Heard' throws down fast, bouncy percussion with ravey stabs and a locked-in low-end groove. All four are built to slam.

Tiga & Zyntherius & Chris Liebing - "Sunglasses At Night" (Chris Liebing remix)
Review: Astonishingly, 21 years have now passed since DJ Hell's International Deejay Gigolos unleashed what would become one of the electroclash scene's most enduring anthems: Tiga and Zyntherius' ear-catching cover of Cory Hart's deliciously OTT 1983 synth-pop smash 'Sunglasses at Night'. As this reissue proves, the pair's version has aged well - not least because it retains the key elements of Hart's original (the memorable bassline, lyrics and vocals), whilst offering a tougher, faster groove, spacier synths and snappier old school electro references. As it did first time around, the Tiga/Jori Hulkonnen-produced gem comes backed with a gritty, noisy, breathless and intensely hard techno revision from German legend Chris Leibing.

Review: British disco/house veteran Riva Starr's 'Keep Me On The Dancefloor' first appeared in single form, foreshadowing Starr's new album of the same name and which you now hear before you. A full, groove-cut expression of the act of living the night, this ascendant orchestra-disco corpus features heavy apparitions from fellow discoursers Harry Stone, Biishop, Chromeo and Nic Hanson, shoulder-to-shoulder genii in the field. With sparkling, danceable rhythms and beautifully clear vocals at its core, the record twines themes of emotional connection and the irresistible pull of the floor, and its many mixes ('Mo' House', 'Mo' Tech', you name em) add extra chilli spice to an already zesty total mix.

What You Did
Review: London-based producer Alistair Gibbs grew up in a family of record collectors so picked up a love of everything from jazz to dub to hip-hop. He has made some fine moves as Nebraska but now debuts as Dubl Drat on his Friends & Relations label after outings on Rush Hour, Heist and Delusions of Grandeur. And a fine debut it is too as 'Jump-Rope' is a funky stouter that unfurls at 116bpm with neat guitar trills and a meandering lead all getting you in the groove. 'What You Did' is even more slow, heavy and hypnotic with a P-funk twist and more great guitar work. Sublime.
