Disaster Theory EP
Cat: RMCE 0071. Rel: 02 Apr 19
Electro
  1. Disaster Theory (7:02)
  2. Dub Bells (6:43)
  3. Human Disease Network (5:36)
  4. Ting Ting (5:31)
Review: The latest must-have EP on Rawax's always on-point Motor City Edition series comes from Simon Hamelin AKA A-Sim, a producer who has previously impressed via No Suit Records and Rawax's main label. He begins in confident fashion via "Disaster Theory", a Drexciya-inspired workout wrapped in cybernetic motifs and deep space chord sequences. "Dub Bells" sees him wrap blissful bleep melodies and starry chords around a tougher, chunkier electro beat, while "Human Disease Network" is a deliciously angular and analogue invitation to dance bristling with heavy electronic bass, ghostly pads and crispy machine cymbals. To round things off in style, he once again reaches for the bleep melodies on the sparse but heavy closing cut "Ting Ting".

Cat: RMCE 015. Rel: 10 Dec 20
Electro
  1. The Invasion (6:39)
  2. The Aftermath (6:24)
  3. Twinge (4:27)
Review: Rawax's Motor City Edition series rattles on here with three blistering electro cuts from Gigi Galaxy, aka underrated Detroit talent Gary Martin. He first woke this EP in 1995 and put it out on Teknotika, but it deserves the new audience it will get with this reissue. The tracks are muscular analogue affairs with jacked up drums and scintillating percussion. Astral synths weave in and out of opener 'The Invasion' while 'The Aftermath' has an off balance groove that stumbles along like a drunk on the walk home from the pub. 'Twinge' is a searing, booming, broken techno banger to close.

Poly Schematic EP

Electro
  1. Polyflux (9:27)
  2. Polytics (4:35)
  3. Polyfanatic (7:42)
  4. Poly Schematic (5:59)
Review: Rawax Motor City Edition is just one more great move to have come from the parent label, Rawax, as it offers us new and exclusive house and techno from the best emerging talents out there; the reissue game can get a little political at times, so we always prefer to hear the goods from the source direct. Polyfan Polyphenix comes through with a certain confidence that has been lacking form the recent elector onslaught, touching down with plenty of thick beats, dusty breaks and, of course, an unlimited supply of rumbling bass lines that recall the likes of Drexciya and anything Gerald Simpson-related. However, tunes like "Polyfanatic" or "Polytics" are very much grounded in their own mystique, blending up German tech with all sorts of elastic electro aesthetics from both the US and EU spectrum. BOMBS.

Figuration EP
  1. R&S - "Figuration" (11:43)
  2. B&S - "Another State Of Mind" (9:35)
  3. R&S - "Yellow Rug" (4:05)
Review: The latest missive on Rawax's Motor City Edition offshoot doesn't come from Detroit, but rather experienced German trio Patrick Raddatz, Robin Scholz and Philipp Boss. The latter joins forces with Scholz as B&S on the wonderfully meandering "Another State of Mind", a 10-minute exploration of deep electro bristling with fluid ambient synths, spacey electro melodies and languid lines. It's reminiscent of some of Convextion's more ambient-leaning escapades, which is rich praise. The other two tracks come from Raddatz and Scholz. They too, explore undulating, intelligent techno-era ambience on "Yellow Rug", but it's the epic acid/electro fusion of Drexciya style shuffler "Figuration" that stands out.

Shadow Orbiter EP
Cat: RMCE 016. Rel: 15 Feb 21
Electro
  1. Shadow Orbiter (7:00)
  2. Pilot Of Change (5:36)
  3. Leaving The Echo Chamber (5:57)
  4. Kill The Lights (6:57)
Review: Those who were buying records in the early 2000s should remember Sniper Mode, the occasional electro alias of experienced German techno producer Gregor Treshor. If you're in this category, then you're likely to be rather excited by Shadow Orbit, Treshor's first Sniper Mode EP for 17 years. There's tons of fine material on show, from the sparkling melodies, moody pass and rolling beats of opener 'Shadow Orbiter', and the reflective brilliance of ear-pleasing deep electro number 'Pilot of Change', to the bustling, bleeping excitement of closing cut 'Kill The Lights'. Arguably best of all though is 'Leaving The Echo Chamber', a mid-tempo electro number marked out by ghostly synth-strings, poignant chords and cyborg synth sounds.
