Review: The legendary collaboration between Akinyele and Kool G Rap, 'Break a Bitch Neck,' is one of rap's most famous cuts and not for musical reasons. It is a track which showcases a scorching beat and the incredible synergy between these two New York lyricists but is best known for being one of the most unapologetically sexist and outrageous rap songs ever. It's a hard-hitting and deep hip-hop joint with a super cool break and naughty bars. On the flip, you will find a remix but only the brave will play this one in today's socially conscious landscape.

Review: The late great Cosmic AC's vast catalogue again yields some posthumous treasure with part two of the For Now album. It's another record that is as sophisticated as it is adventures with plenty of painstakingly crafted but effortless smooth breakbeats on 'Larvy' topped with pensive synths. Elsewhere there are logic-defying rhythm structures on 'Snood', hooky synth shimmers and more raw textures on 'Wisconsin Desert' and jazzy, cosmic motifs on the wonderful 'Setting Sun'. Review: Chicago artist Justin Kay was hugely prolific in his day and world under several different nom de plume. Now some of his best work is being revisited for a series of posthumous releases. He traversed several different sound worlds with equal aplomb from bright pop to sludge metal via IDM. Under his Cosmic AC alias he manages to mix up equal parts ambient bliss with breakbeat action, raw techno and emotive house. The standouts of this Continuations album come thick and fast from the high speed jungle breaks of 'Blue Whirl' to the jazzy downtempo delights of 'Hedge Clipper' and plenty in between. See also the majestic pop serenity of closer 'WTWIRDYMTBOWSA.'

And that's what we have here with a trio of new remixes from an artist by the name of MJ. First to get beefed up with some club ready drums is 'Can't Help It', then 'Remember The Time' (House remix) has a more balmy feel with the swirling pads above crisp drum funk. Last but not least, 'Butterflies' (House remix) has filtered vocals with a sunny feel and some nice smooth house drums.

Review: Michael Jackson's music will always remain a great source of inspiration for sample hunters and so it continues to prove many years after his death. This new 12" comes on an unknown label and features two House remixes. The first tackles 'Billie Jean' and does little to it but to lay out the drums for more useful club play. The vocal keeps it hook and then on the flip is 'Baby Be Mine' which also comes as a nice house version, this time with some lush disco stings and plenty of warm and soulful vibes.

Review: Sade is one of those artists that people just cannot resist remixing. Her voice is silky smooth and sultry so is well suited to seductive deep house reworks. And that is just what we get here with four different takes on 'Love Is Stronger Than Pride'. The GT Hot remix opens with deft pads and airy beats, the B-Boys Basement mix gets more physical and jacked up with raw percussion and the Mouse T club mix brings some old-school house feels. Last of all is the most smoky and rich as the Master & Pupil mix layers in sustained chords and dynamic depth.

Review: 'Couldn't Love You More' is one of the most iconic songs from one of the most iconic soul singers of her generation. It is such a sweet tune that it is perfect for reworking into a lovely deep house framework. And that is exactly what we have here as some mysterious artist who for obvious reasons wants to be unnamed reworks it three different ways. Mix 1 keeps the lush, lazy chords in place and sprinkles in some deft percussion. Mix 2 is a subtle tweak that has a little more drive and edge to it and Mix 3 completes the package with another deft touch that is sure to get floors all loved up.

Review: Dunno about you, but we are absolute suckers for Sade mixes. Not the tasteless ones that are in no way sympathetic to the original mood - but the deep house reworks that couch Sade's heart-melting toes in soft, dreamy drums are hard to beat. And that's what we have here on another cheeky white label 12". First is a nice blissed out and late night rework of 'Somebody Already Broke My Heart' (Excursions mix) which is a pure joy, and then 'Hang On To Your Love' (De Rigueur) is a little more dancey with disco chords bringing some sparkle to Sade's irresistible tones.

Review: Over the course of 2012, LA based producer Gabriel Reyes-Whittaker aka Gifted & Blessed aka GB has been stealthily responsible for some of our favourite releases at Juno, be it the self released and brilliantly presented EP The Provider or his return to All City with the vintage Detroit electro flex of Seven In Twenty Four or the all too on point Eglo emission The Abstract Eye. The Steoples project done in collaboration with fellow West Coast musician A Race Of Angels surfaced earlier this year and glowered with the kind of resonating warmth you would expect when Reyes-Whittaker's music is complemented by the angelic yet fragile vocal refrain of his studio partner. Despite originally being restricted to the digital domain, tracks such as "Nature Of The Soul" seem tailor-made for sliding across a slab of wax so it's great to see The Steoples EP finally get a 12" release. Such delays haven't dampened the impact either, which is a clear sign of timeless music. Along with the aforementioned "Nature Of The Soul" - a scratchy concoction of house-not house rhythms, sweet keys and swirling basslines tailor made for the vocal - the duo preside over plump and wonderfully melodic analogue beatdown excursions which bode well for future material The Steoples are apparently working on.
