Saluting the sun, he drops a fine, extended edit of suitably big gospel soul/disco number ‘Let The Sunshine In’, cannily building towards a grandiose, life-affirming conclusion full of righteous group vocals and impassioned male lead vocals. On the flip, Krivit reworks an obscurity from Walter Gibbons’ private collection of one-off acetates. Originally pressed to a seven-inch, Krivit’s version extends the extra-percussive, jazzy, infectious and celebratory disco obscurity for added dancefloor pleasure. Like the majority of Krivit’s edits, it’s a masterclass in club-focused rearrangement.

Review: This latest Unxpozd release has taken a hot minute to arrive but it's been worth the wait, because once again DJ Aakmael shows off his deep house class. '6minutes' kicks off with the sort of whimsical late-night chords that soon get you dreaming as the loveably lazy grooves slouch on. 'Just A Track pt. 8' shows Aakmael's sample skills as he chops up the sounds with some nice jazzy keys. You won't find a groove more lush and smooth than the gently cosmic 'Track 123' while 'Autumn' is perfectly stripped back to chunky kicks, slowly ascending chords and a hint of Kerri Chandler soul with a gospel vocal hook.

Review: This tasteful Spanish label always does a fine line in traditionally inclined deep house. Their latest drop brings together the talents of Andrew Lozano and Trevor Vichas. 'Don't U Feel It' kicks off with a playful skip in the drums and one of those spoken word vocals that add plenty of atmosphere. It's Demuir who remixes this one with even more light-hearted groove and jazzy Rhodes chords. Lozano and Vichas then offer 'With You' which keeps the dubby, smoky, frayed-edge house sounds rolling and 'Feel The Heat then brings a more upright groove with driving hits and swirling pads that speak to the soul.

Review: Reissued in 2025, Flight Of The Conchords' debut 2008 LP compiled and studio-ized the very best of the New Zealand comedy duo's musical numbers, which had hitherto only appeared on TV and in concert. Billed as a final foil to "all the inexpert fan-made audio transfers which have bloated hard drives the world over" in the words of Sub Pop, Bret McKenzie and Jermaine Clements' parodic folk efforts here are commendable. Trademark acoustic guitars and diverse instrumentation underlie this jocose dose, while the sheerly most relevant of all contemporary foibles and current affairs - the Pet Shop Boys, censorship, Marvin Gaye, sexism, Shabba Ranks, and backhanded compliments - is handled with smooth irreverence.

Review: Made famous for their mammoth mammary Brainiak-issued sophomore record Blow (1996), The Infinite Wheel came in 1996 as the North London based ambient trance collab of James Johnson and Mark Smith. Many a psychedelically tinged downtempo record would just as easily sporulate across the likes of Nu Groove and R&S, but it was this Brainiak exclusive from 1994 that really took the edible. 'Java Dub' is a psychic dub breakthrough, with its steamtrain bells and eighth note expansions making for a proper tonal tunnelling. 'Enviro', just as it was, has us puckers our lips to its ambient acidic sours, as cascades of percussive pulsion rain down like disembodied parts of a collective self.

Review: While he's used the NAD alias for numerous commissioned re-edits and reworks, it's been a decade since Idjut Boy and Record Mission co-founder Dan Tyler last released an EP under the alias. Given his track record as a dub delay and space echo living editor, this surprise outing in the excellent Duca Bianca imprint is a more than welcome development. He begins by dubbing out, extending and rearranging a Germanic new wave gem ('Dow Wordy', with its dead-eyed spoken word vocals), before showcasing a lower-tempo, French language obscurity on the Balearic-not-Balearic shuffle of 'Histoire De Cul'. 'Krapps Smack' sees the Oslo-based Brit add extra layers of echo-laden insanity to a low-slung, extra-percussive punk-funk number, while 'Release The Pigoen' is a spacey, slow-motion AOR gem drenched in effects and saucer-eyed intent.

Review: A pillar of 70s jazz-funk and soul, this landmark release from Los Angeles artist Roy Ayers still sounds impossibly fresh. Originally released in 1976, it marked a shift towards more mellow, groove-based songwritinga and remains one of the most influential entries in Ayers' vast discography. He centres the vibraphone across ten tracks, using it as both melodic guide and percussive spirit. 'Hey, Uh-What You Say Come On' sets out the blueprint with radiant optimism, followed by the smoky bounce of 'The Golden Rod' and 'Keep On Walking'. 'You And Me My Love' and 'The Third Eye' stretch into dreamier territory, while 'It Ain't Your Sign (It's Your Mind)' and 'People And The World' inject a sharper social commentary. 'Everybody Loves The Sunshine' itself is a peak momentihazy, minimal, instantly transportive. Then comes the more eccentric double close of 'Tongue Power' and 'Lonesome Cowboy', where Ayers' soulful surrealism glows brightest.

They evidently have an impressive phone book having drawn in some all-time greats to do justice to the goth rock godfathers, The Cure. In terms of those who bring their own style and transform the original, it's worth noting The Poems performing '10:15 Saturday Night' and Elk City performing 'Close To Me'. Truly outstanding.

Emerging from Bristol's fertile underground scene, his work as a producer, DJ and label head has been instrumental in pushing the boundaries of UK dance music. Closing out his long-running series, he distills his signature sound into four meticulously sculpted tracks. 'Pulse XVII' bookends a skeletal, stepping groove with shimmering synth strings and crisp chord stabs, injecting a dose of Motor City euphoria into his typically weighty framework. 'Pulse XVIII' strips things back to bare essentials, constructing a taut, jacking house cut from pulsing low-end and precisely placed percussionia masterclass in restraint and impact. Review: A punctual reissue of a rare Eye 4 Sound tech-acid house party starter from 2004, this Repeat version of Dexter's 'Paradox' stays faithful to one of many EPs in UK artist Mat Royall's regal flush of technical itches to last from 01 to 06, spread across labels like Beat Code, Random House and, in more recent years, Real Deal and Bosh Records. 'Paradox' is subset by the fun-loving 'Ychtm Acid' on the B-side, and while we can't claim to be so clever as to be able to decode this standout track's strange titular acronym, we can vouch for the sickness of its eccentric percussions and atmosphere, a fine case of what we call "mood design".

Review: Scruniversal's sub label Tunes Delivery invites Moscow scene veteran Leonid Lipelis to don his Beard In Dust moniker for their third instalment, one which dips into various different eras of dance history for inspiration. There's a distinctly late 80s feel to opening tune 'Music of the U', complete with sampled bell stabs and the kind of beats that wouldn't be out of place on an S'Express or early Coldcut house affair. 'The Armenian Break' and 'City of Love' look back even further, back to the female-fronted disco efforts of the 70s, the latter adding a touch of Balearic flourishes. 'Abstractish P' circles around some serene arpeggios, with rave whistles and, as it progresses, twisting guitar notes, lending it an individual air, while closer 'RoRyaRe' nods to ExCel-era 808 State with some nice bleepery before settling into more progressive headnodding territory and some distinctive synth play.
