Review: The year of 1985 is the absolute highpoint of The Cure's long illustrious career - they'd spent two years enjoying the fruit of their first Top 10 single, 'The Love Cats' and hit an incredible purple patch with the Head On The Door album, out that year, which seemed to effortlessly move their sound into pop territory without spoiling their trademark gothic emotional intensity. Hugely adept at dominating large spaces with their large sound - the 12,000 seater Birmingham NEC in this case - this catches a choice selection of tracks from the usual epic set list, spanning pop monsters like 'In Between Days' and 'Close To Me', synthpop-tinged delights like 'Screw', 'The Walk' and 'Let's Go To Bed' and the utterly doom laden 'A Forest' and 'The Hanging Garden'. A reminder of why they were - and continue to be - one of the biggest live draws the world of alternative music has ever produced.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve split at the top but otherwise in excellent condition***

Amsterdam has two celebrated, long standing venues - the Paradiso and the Melkweg - and this 1979 broadcast caught the soon to be huge Cure in action in the latter, way more intimate one. It's a collection of the tracks that made the early part of their career as a wiry, lean three post-punk piece more than goth behemoth - 'Killing An Arab', '10:15 Saturday Night', 'Boys Don't Cry' and two speedy versions of 'A Forest' that both come in under five minutes (as opposed to the latter versions that are closer to ten) all figure. It's a period that has its own, rather different following to the normal Cure legions, and this display of sharp pop sense and its jagged approach to sonics showcases just why that is.

Review: The Cure were still in the earlier stages of their careers back in the seventies. Their uniquely moody post-punk and unashamedly emo - way before the term even existed - sound was picking up steam but their live performance at De Melkweg in Amsterdam on December 12, 1979, marked an early pivotal point. The concert - in a venue which is still used to a wide range of shows to this day - saw them confirm themselves as innovators and live specialists who knew how to whip up a frenzy in their crowd. Plenty of their signature moody atmospheres and haunting melodies feature in this raw and electrifying performance with tunes 'Three Imaginary Boys', 'Jumping Someone Else's Train' and 'Boys Don't Cry' all featuring.

Review: This superb live album from the one and only electronic doom-mongers Depeche Mode from 1993 captures the band at the height of their legendary Songs of Faith and Devotion era. Broadcast on FM radio, the electrifying performance showcases the group's knack for raw, dark, inviting soundscapes and powerful connection with their audience. Featuring hits like 'Walking in My Shoes' and 'Personal Jesus' alongside darker and more introspective tracks, the setlist highlights the band's blend of industrial textures and emotional depth. Dave Gahan's commanding presence and Martin Gore's haunting melodies define this unforgettable show and make it a great one for the racks.

Review: Joy Division sure do sound great on record but they were also one of those bands that really nailed their live shows. One such occasion was on 19th April 1980 at Derby's Andante Theatre. The band was already well known and widely loved by then but they still insisted on playing what you might call shit-hole venues around the UK. This show was broadcast on the radio and it includes classics like the melancholic rawness of 'Insight' and other gems such as 'She's Lost Control' and a cover of Factory labelmates' Section 25's 'Girls Don't Count.' A live album well worth having.

Review: If you're a fan of synthesised music in any way, shape or form then Kraftwerk likely remain a bucket list band to see. Sure, only traces of the original group remain. Nevertheless, the spirit and aesthetic quality of the group has remained largely unchanged, and this is immediately apparent the moment they walk out in front of a crowd. Another Lonely Night: Live At The Palalido Milan Italy May 27th 1981 captures some of that magic, and really makes it clear that Kraftwerk's live sets are as tight as their performance is regimented. The men machines living up to their reputations as living metronomes. Boasting some of their best loved tracks - 'The Model', 'Computer Love', 'Radioactivity' - alongside some refreshingly less prominent tunes, it's well worth a dive into.

Review: A limited edition (300 only) coloured vinyl collection of tracks from early Oasis days rendered in acoustic, unplugged style, culled from a variety of sources - the Simon Mayo Show, Gary Crowle and Mark Lamarr's GLR shows, the Orpheum Theatre, Boston, a Creation Records Birthday Party at London's Royal Albert Hall and the BBC Radio1 Live Lounge. From 'Wonderwall' to 'Live Forever', the songs are the most cherished and celebrated among the Mancunians' canon. They're no less strong as a result of these stripped down arrangements, though, and this compilation sheds a new light on an already much loved period in indie rock history.

Review: Captured at Parque O'Higgins in Santiago, Chile, on April 1st 2017, just two months before the release of their ninth full-length studio album Trouble Maker (though the set features no early sneak peek cuts), El Punk No Ha Muerto offers up a fly-on-the-wall earful from California punk lifers Rancid, deep into their seasoned veteran status. Boasting a catalogue spanning greatest hits set featuring classics such as 'Maxwell Murder' and 'Ruby Soho', this live LP is Rancid as they were always meant to be heard. Messy, chaotic, gruff yet underpinned with a poignant precision and internal understanding of live dynamics and audience appeal, this is as close as you can get to the intense camaraderie of one of their incomparable shows without paying the price of admission (for a ticket anyway, no freebies).

Review: This broadcast was first aired on French TV having been recorded at the Bataclan club in Paris, on January 29, 1972. It got a first official release in 2004 having been bootlegged for many years before that from a recording taken from the sound board at the gig. Fans of The Velvet Underground will know that this was the first time the group members Lou Reed, John Cale and Nico had all been up on stage together.

Review: You can now get your hands on this superb live album from The Velvet Underground members Lou Reed, John Cale and Nico on plain black vinyl or, more excellently, this white limited edition version. This set was the first time the group members had all been up on stage together since the original band disbanded. It was first aired on French TV having been recorded at the Bataclan club in Paris, on January 29, 1972. It got a first official release in 2004 having been bootlegged for many years before that from a recording taken from the sound board at the gig. Due to a problem with tape transfers, the speed on some releases is slower than the original concert.

Review: London post-punk outfit The Sound started life with Adrian Borland (who before that formed The Outsiders) and Graham Bailey as Second Layer, but released their first album under this name in 1980. The lasted only until 1987 but dropped some 16 albums in that time. They also laid down this Larger Than Life: Live At Paradiso Amsterdam March 8th 1981 FM Broadcast which now gets pressed up to yellow vinyl. It has not been available on CD before and a superb live album with pumping bass guitar driving along each tune, beneath angular riffs and amidst rhythmic drums that make you want to move.

Review: Limited to just 300 copies on orange wax, Keep Me Safe Keep Me Sane is a collection of studio outtakes, tour rehearsals and depraved live cuts from The Stooges, all taken from their tumultuous 1972 period when Iggy Pop had truly lost himself within the realms of heroin addiction. Reforming with the original line up following their initial break up in 1971, due to being unable to find adequate replacements; bitterness, ego and drug abuse were all rife as the band began touring and crafting what would eventually lead to their 1973 masterwork Raw Power, with the compilation even offering early versions of the title-track as well as 'Death Trip'.
