Review: After last year's standout 'E2-E4' rework, in-form producer Alex Kassian returns to Test Pressing Records with the next instalment in the series i this time turning his attention to Spooky's 'Orange Coloured Liquid', taken from their 1993 debut album Gargantuam. Alongside acts like Underworld and Leftfield, UK duo Charlie May and Duncan Forbes helped shape the early 90s progressive house sound under their Spooky moniker. Now, decades later, Kassian delivers two versions designed to serve dancefloor and sunset respectively, with the rolling breaks of Part I beautifully complemented by the ambient swells of Part II. John Beltran dons his Placid Angles alias for a sumptuous remix pitched somewhere between the two, while the still-fresh original rounds out an essential EP i no surprise, given the calibre of those involved.

Review: George Harrison's 1973 solo LP Be Here Now shortly followed the breakup of the Beatles and came at a time when the innovative guitarist had already set afoot a new spiritual path. Having studied Eastern philosophies and nurturing a new connection to the Hare Krishna movement, Be Here Now followed All Things Must Pass (1970) as a relatively experimental, layered work, embracing a blend of Indian and Western musical elements. Many of Harrison's neo-psychedelic contemporaries, such as Led Zeppelin, were just as easily appropriating vedic patterns and Orientalist tropes, so Harrison wasn't alone in this. But this avatar of Harrison's solo vision is entirely singular, mixing sensitive arrangements, eudaimonic themes, haunting vocals, and nascent studio effects (the reverse reverb is strong with this one).

Deep, nocturnally charged and gorgeously atmospheric, the EP opens with the brooding acid of 'Quantum Voyage', where foggy pads drift over bubbling 303 and jagged machine hits. 'Skys Whisper' blends emotive synth waves with growling bass and crisp drums, with its bittersweet topline gliding over sumptuous harmonics, while 'Sunny Konotop' maintains a similar trajectory, with misty-eyed synth work dancing over low-slung bass and swung beats. Review: A flummoxing fusion of jazz, soul and funk from 1972, Donald Byrd's Think Twice is ironically one of few jazz records that we don't really have to think twice about. Taken from the bokeh-grained, 1974 impressionistic prog-jazz opus Stepping Into Tomorrow - on which a whirlwind cast of performers including Mayuto Correa, Larry Mizell, Gary Bartz and Harvey Mason also appear - Byrd's unmistakable trumpet is heard whinnying across this LP-fronter, which rides serious thermals of flugelhorn, soprano and alto sax, ARP synth and backing choir. The vocals by Kay Haith are duly cautionary, insisting but seemingly also tantalising our worst impulses: "Maybe we oughta think twice... Before we start something nice / No need to sacrifice the spice in our lives, ooh ooh / our love's like fire and ice, pretty baby / That's why we oughta think twice..." A rare anti-YOLO anthem!

Review: Coyote and Peaking Lights form a perfect pairing on this latest drop of bliss from Is It Balearic? They are artists who are drenched in dub influences and that comes to the fore on this direct collaboration which marries swirling dub with dreamy vocals and ghostly acid arpeggios to bring to mind a serene sunset after a long, hot and lazy day. 'Love Letters' is pure horizontal bliss, 'So Far Away' gets even slower and will drown you in synth succulence and Coyote's dub mix is laden with soothing delays and warm bass that transports you to an exotic world of weed-laced wonderment.

Review: Rhadoo has long been in a class of his own when it comes to crafting intricately detailed minimal. Despite doing so for decades, he still finds freshness in his particular milieu, as he does again here on Secret Society, teaming up with multi-discipliniary artist and sound wizard Traian Chereches under the RH.CHER moniker. The cerebral 'Gwen' beings with liquid synths and gloopy sounds, dry hits and kicks and vocal swirls that infuse the whole thing with eerie soul. Review: While she has released on NDAL Muzik, People of Earth and Innermoods, Roberta Jennifer Lopez tends to put out most of her music on the Night Moves Records imprint she established a decade ago - and it's to that label that she returns with her first EP of 2025. The Brooklyn-based produced begins with 'Heart Feelings', a jazz-house adjacent slab of piano-rich nu-jazz positivity that reminded us of the great Kyoto Jazz Massive, before opting to smother a sparse, ultra-deep jazz house groove in extended piano solos on the similarly inspired 'Your Power'. She takes to the mic on the Kai Alce style deep soulful house workout 'Make It Right', while closing cut 'The Score' is a warming, sunset-ready instrumental free of kicks and snares.

Review: While he's not put out many re-edits of late, Luke Una has serious scalpel-job pedigree. Back in the 2000s, he and then DJ partner Justin Crawford released a series of largely disco-focused edit EPs on the hush-hush Electrik Souls series. Here he returns to the format with the first in a series of reworks focused on his popular, dusty-fingered E Soul Cultura project. He begins by teasing out and lightly toughening up a killer Caribbean cut from the 1990s, Ella Andall's 'My Spirit Is Music' - an insanely rare and hard to find number that the Sheffield-born DJ has naturally tweaked sensitively. Elsewhere, he emphasises the 'proto-house dub' feel of Slick Mission's early UK house number 'Time's Up', before going even dubbed-out and more percussive on Manu Dibango's lesser-known cover of Latin disco classic 'Jingo'.

Review: After 25 years of sporadic collaboration and numerous breaks and beats-type albums through their Tino Corps, the often Meat Beat Manifesto-linked line up of Tino's Ben Stokes, John Corrigan and Mike Powell deliver their first official EP - and it's well worth the wait. This debut is a rich, vibrant slice of house music that feels both timeless and freshly inspired. Opening with 'Set You Free', the trio tap into classic deep house with sensual vocals, sharp stabs and a breezy old-school charm. 'Tinto!' follows with a more melodic, disco-tinged vibe, dripping in late-night atmosphere and subtle groove - a true deep cut. Side-B lifts the energy again with 'Give That', all crisp percussion, fun, bouncy rhythms and a smooth, infectious melody that's impossible not to move to. Closing track 'Obsession' is perhaps the catchiest of the lot, layering vocal hooks over a sleek, rolling groove that could easily become a crowd favourite. In just four tracks, Stokes, Corrigan and Powell manage to showcase a deep understanding of house's emotional core, combining for an EP that's both playful and seriously polished. A stunning debut - let's hope we don't wait another 25 years for the next one.

Review: If you're reading this you will probably already know that this Cruise Music series has been full of gold over the previous instalments. Whoever is in charge for curation has pulled it off again with four more funky and disco infused house gems. Keller's opener is a classy mix of filtered vocals and drum loops with an aching soul edge. Mark Funk offers a more party starting disco bumper with classic vocal hooks and Danny Cruz takes things onto a summer terrace with glorious horns and uplifting grooves. Makito shuts down with the dusty deep house shuffles and party atmospheres of 'Jackin With Millie.'

Review: In 2003, deep in Croydon's Online Studios, the roots of proper tech house - we said *proper* tech house - were spreading underground. It was here that Evasive label head Rob joined forces with Simon Copleston, aka. Iteration X, for a fresh collaboration under the new alias Rob & Si. The project followed the underground momentum built by Iteration X's earlier 'Timecheck / Liquid Logic' EP, and merged the individual styles of both into a unified, forward-pulsing, projectile sound. The result was 'Roll One Up / Zebras', the 2003 two-tracker reminiscent of the sultry out-breaths characterising much of the 2-step garage that would emerge in parallel at the time. 'Zebraz' is an extra-special dubbing; an aposematic m(s)onochrome moving through various echos, stabs and what sound like field recordings of startled wildlife.

Review: Originally released in 1996, this track has long been a staple in the deep house canon and this 2025 reissue delivers a collection of the most iconic remixes alongside with a key fresh version. The track's timeless appeal is fully realised through a combination of classic and modern renditions. Side-A has one of the most important versions with the sublime Salt City Orchestra's Out There Mix, a deep house masterpiece with ethereal vocals, hypnotic basslines and an epic feel that makes it timeless as the day it was released. The Trevino Remix flips the track, introducing a more techy, peak-time energy with a rolling bassline that transforms the deep groove into an undeniable floor-filler. Side-B showcases two more versions, beginning with the Frits Wentink Mix, which strips down the track to its soulful essence, focusing on intricate percussion and atmospheric elements. Review: London's Mysticisms label spill valorous guts in issuing this new dub and breakbeat crossover record from Dub Specialists. Having emerged from te potent 1980s-90s fallouts that enshrouded the pioneering digital roots label Conscious Sounds, Dub Specialists tracked the storied meeting-of-minds that was and still is Douglas Waldrop, Piers Harrison, and Stuart "Chuggy" Leath. This time, the trio are heard teaming up with DJ Millie McKee and studio brain Matt Bruce to formate yet another splinter cell, as missionaries of Conscious Sounds' digital mission: to explore samplers and videogame sounds in dub and funk. Using an Atari 1040 running Cubase and armed with a Soundcraft mixer, this latest iteration hears drum loops and reggae basslines played over funk samples and layered with Petter's chords, crafting a series of short, DJ-worthy heaters. The result is unhindered by expectation and breaks many calcified digidub moulds, as on 'Funkin Dub', where speak n' spell garblings meet downtown funk licks and sonorant snare whacks.
