Every Sound (Alex Calver remix)
Wank Star (Rhythm Technologies remix)
Bionic Armz (Jay Walker remix)
Break Um (Patrick DSP remix)
Review: This is a special release for the label and features four different remixes of Glitch classics. Remixes come from underground producers Patrick DSP, Jaywalker, Rhythm Technologies and label owner Alex Calver. Glitch is one of the UK's premier hard techno labels and is gaining a massive reaction in Germany and Spain as the hard techno/Schranz scene goes from strength to strength. "Every Sound" remix by Alex Calver is going to be a big tune with techno DJs due to its tough-as-nails groove, smooth production and insistent arrangement. "Wank Star" remix from Rhythm Technologies gives a new clubbed-up spin on this Glitch anthem. Alex Calver is one of techno's hottest producers and DJs and has amassed an impressive back catalogue in just a few years and has made appearances on Killers, Hydraulix, Toolbox, Tidytrax and Nu Breed. His music is very current and fashionable with the rising Schranz scene that is coming out of Germany and has connected to a young and hungry crowd who are rebelling against the insurgence of minimal techno and electroclash. Alex's style is much in demand alongside other producers of similar styles such as Amok, Boris S and Robert Natus.

I Love Techno Anthem 2006
Need Love
Review: After anthems from Marco Bailey, T-Quest, Tomaz & Filterheadz, Sharpside and Redhead this year the honour goes to Ortin Cam. He is only 23 years old but already has releases on labels such as Missile, Traum, Minimaxima, Session, Corachi, Spilo... Next to that he is constantly touring the world with his live act or as a DJ. Whereas the A side is the anthem for this year's I Love Techno festival in October, the B side is a minimal techno stomper that would do well in the sets from people like Adam Beyer or Monika Kruse. I Love Techno!!

Review: Three fearlessly huge techno bangers from Belgian imprint Roots Records. Ortin Cam and Charles Black know how to bring the dark and industrial touches to their tunes, as Black's pounding kicks and robotic synths prove. The effect is big and nasty, and will make you break out in a sweat after a few seconds. Saga is even more filthy, really just an excuse for one epic long rising note that takes minutes before it drops! Truly it has to be heard to be believed.

Next Stop
Review: Adam Beyer has proved consistently over the last 10 years that he is without a doubt one of the most talented DJs and producers on the scene but he also manages his labels to great effect and Drumcode, Mad Eye, and Truesoul have all built up cult followings due to the careful selection of tracks for them. This release is yet another example of cutting-edge material. Ozgur Can is perhaps one of the newest Swedish stars on the scene but has made a massive impact very quickly with DJs as diverse as Sven Vath and Fergie all playing his records for labels like Organised Nature. This two-tracker is simply sublime with the A-side track being an absolute killer with clever arrangement and killer bassline. The flip is equally effective and makes a must-have release!!

Reggie, Don't Panic (10:07)
Review: Having just issued a long overdue 2AM FM album from himself and D'Marc Cantu, Bopside man JTC further adds to his list of collaborative endeavours with this fine 12" alongside Capracara. We're not quite sure how this transatlantic pairing came to be, but hopefully there will be further JTC and Capracara cuts as this two tracker is quite the gem. Those seeking some immediate thrills will love the percolating rhythm track that is lead cut "Bubble N' Squeak", a production replete with some nagging bleeps that will make perfect sense on the dancefloor. The superbly named "Reggie, Don't Panic" even slips in a cheeky UK-style flex to the drums whilst still sounding like hyper-charged Detroit techno.

Review: Just over a year after the second part in his Colundi Interception series, Capsule Network is back with a third volume. This is a series defined by techno that takes you into outer space. Opener 'Otava' is with laced with ambient pads but also driving and hard edge, then 'Merak' sinks down into a smooth, rolling dub techno groove that is all about your head. 'Alioth' is a suspensory ambient interlude that gets you on edge and then it's back to silky rhythms and sleek synth design on the acid laced pumper 'Dubhe.' The drums break free on the more loose and unhinge closer 'Megrez.'

Now he's stepping forth with his biggest belters to date on Return To Disorder, kicking off with the massive 'Danger' featuring certifiable legend Paris The Black Fu on vocal duties. 'Floorwax' is also packing some club scene clout into its electro fantasy, with the mighty Foremost Poets sneaking some spooky lyrics into the mix. On the flip, 'Floorwax' gets remixed by Cardopusher and Hrdvision, who respectively jack the track up and freak it right out, widening the scope of the record without leaving the seedy ambience Return To Disorder prefers to lurk in.

Review: Carbo Flex aka Graeme Evans drops his debut release on the UK's Central Processing Unit, and it's an absolute scorcher of an LP. This is a debut release, and he drops something of a mini-masterpiece reminiscent of Autechre's best and most singular moments. In fact, it isn't really his sound which resonates with the 90s IDM scene, but more the freedom of expression heard throughout these tracks. Synthed-out, electro-tinged monsters for lovers of good electronic music.

Just A Ride (6:21)
Review: Cardopusher's latest release - the Barcelona-based artist's first for Mechatronica - is pleasingly retro-futurist in tone, building on the stylish fusions of EBM, industrial, new wave, acid and techno he's previously offered up on Dark Entries, Boysnoize, Dalmata Daniel and Super Rhythm Trax. Rooted in analogue hardware, the four tracks mix druggy, Nitzer Ebb style arpeggio basslines and clattering, sometimes jacking rhythm tracks with distant vocal samples and occasional hard-edged, mind-altering electronic motifs. It's all very muscular, forthright and dancefloor-focused, with the deliciously raw and druggy "Just A Ride" and soaring "Programmed To Consume" - all rising lead lines, big chords and bustling machine drums - standing out.

The Venezuelan artist has had releases previously on top labels such as Tigerbeat6, Hyperdub and even Boysnoize, in addition to running his Classicworks inprint. The Mental Jobs EP features the gritty and hyperware acid house of "Trust Your TV" and the the electric boogaloo of "Never Fade Away" which had us similarly reminiscing on S'Express and the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack. Review: Balkan Recordings return with a third edition of their Mutant City Acid series. On the A side Cardopusher gives us some vintage Chicago acid reminiscent of DJ Bam Bam on the ferocious "Facelifter" while Perseus Traxx gives us the spooky "Amphitheatre of Joppa" which builds the suspense a lot like another certain classic by Suburban Knight; you know the one! On the B side we've got "Turn My Tape Up" by Posthuman. Not just another apt slogan for the new generation but a wicked track to boot! With its driving arpeggio that later morphs into 303 style acid and rusty drums; this one's got all you need! Finally UK techno legend Paul Mac appears too! "Borrow The Sound" sees him taking time out from engineering for the likes of Ben Sims to throw down a sturdy example of dark side electro that'd make Silicon Scally and Scape One stand up and notice.

Review: EXPERIMENTAL/ELECTRONIC: Little was known about the still impossibly young Dro Carey when he made his debut for The Trilogy Tapes label back in 2010 with the Venus Knock EP, but the reclusive Australian producer has certainly left his stamp on the electronic music world subsequent to that release. Across numerous drops on Hum + Buzz, Templar and Ramp Recordings, Carey has developed a quite singular, often experimental take on electronic music that giddily sticks two fingers up at attempts of easy categorization. Returning to Will Bankhead's supremely curated label with Leary Blips, the six tracks present cast Carey in his most confident and complete frame of mind to date. Seemingly flitting between standing still and tunnelling ever downwards while attempting to create all new rhythms and tempos at ease, from the moment the cavernous bass drops in the opening title track Carey takes you on a ride through music you're likely to have not heard before.

Review: One of our favourite labels Millions Of Moments pays a fitting tribute to a true Detroit great in the dearly departed Aaron Carl. His passing late last year was a truly sad end to a glorious career and one of his finest moments in "Wallshaker" is revisited here. Massively rare upon original release back in 1997, Millions Of Moments have already reissued "Wallshaker" and it's accompanying and quite hypnotic "Midnite Dub" back in 2007 but here they go the extra mile, enlisting Sven Weismann to add his own touch to the track. Spread across the B Side, Weismann delivers a superlative remix which transforms the rattling original into a lavishly deep and dubby excursion filled with delightful orchestral flourishes. Extra special sleeve packaging and all profits going to the Carl family just add reasons to indulge in this special release. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Both album cuts, namely "Groove Catcher" and "The Method", are imbued with the subtle instrumentation and inherently funky rhythmic patterns that the Minus stalwart is known for. Adding an extra element of attractiveness to the 12" is the remix of the EP's title track by Poker Flat type Martin Buttrich, who teases out a spooky synth melody and adds some nice touches to the sonic landscape that marks it out as a welcome addendum to the two original cuts on offer.

Review: With summer fast approaching, Plus 8 keeps the southern European flavour flowing with this powerful EP from Marco Carola. "Apnea" is a sultry, Latin-influenced, percussive workout hemmed in by a tight 4/4 groove. Simplicity is the key as each sound cuts like a knife through the warm night air.

Light Minded
Review: Marco Carola (Design, Zenit, Primate, Question, Code Red, 1000 and more) continues to please with his latest offering in his acclaimed Domestic Minimal Noise label, which he started last year to showcase his more minimal and funky productions, and it could be the best one so far. With support on the label already from the likes of Adam Beyer, Annie Mac (Radio 1), John Askew (Kiss FM), Marko Nastic, Phil Kieran, Rolando, Rockliffe, Francois K, Miss Kitten, Josh Wink, Slam, Liebing, Garnier, Valentino, Anderson Noise and many more. The minimal intro of the main track gently builds with the groovy bass line, before the effective minimal riffs, and subtle vocal stabs are intertwined for dancefloor effect. The B1 track sees some strong old skool electro influences, with its funky, minimal tech-house vibes, and again clever use of subtle vocal. The final track is the darkest track on this release with its clicky approach, combined with some deep rolling sub base frequencies for dancefloor devastation. With tasty reactions from the Meganite Space party at WMC, the buzz has already started on this baby.

Review: Derek Carr's brand of Detroit-influenced electronic futurism has always oozed class, with the Irish producer prioritising mood, melody and ear-pleasing synth sounds above all else. It's this blend - both club-ready and perfect for home listening - that makes his releases worth checking. We'd highly recommend Electro Statik Part One, the first in a series of vinyl excursions that as usual blur the boundaries between styles. He begins with the immersive chords, jumpy lead lines and smooth house beats of 'In Transit', before diving headlong into deep electro-meets-IDM waters on the impeccable 'Mimas'. Turn to side B for the skittish, far-sighted and picturesque electro-not-electro number 'A Star Dies', as well as the warming, pitched-down electronic melancholia of 'Dione'.

Carr has been welcomed back into the heart of the underground in recent years with plenty of essential new sounds, but his archives as just as filled with gold. Postlude shows that with four more warm, inviting deep techno cuts embellished with cosmic synth details. 'DJK' is a mid-tempo opener with smeared chords over tech-edged drums and 'Theta' gets more techno with golden synth lines rippling through the mix. 'Ariel' has a happy, upbeat feel to the chords and crisp drum funk and 'L'equipe' shuts down with a slightly slower, more laid-back vibe. All killer no filler.

Review: New label Rhythmic Science comes with a manifesto to release all shades of deep, spacey techno and this inaugural split artist release sets the tone nicely. The presence of Mark Archer should encourage many inquisitive techno minds to check this record out and those that do will feel right at home when they hear "Chuch" which is drawn from the same palette as his Nexus 21 material. However the other contributions also impress; Irish producer Derek Carr offers a meditative slice of classic Motor City Soul in "Centrepoint" that builds in sublime fashion, allowing him to show off his prowess for lush, glistening chords. Flip over and Scottish producer Black Jack presents his own homage to the Detroit techno sound with the wonderfully paced "Future Classic" whilst Mark Ambrose provides the 'slam it right into the mix' moment with his heavy pounder "Insane".

Review: Carrier's latest release continues his exploration of rhythmic pressure following his work with FELT and The Trilogy Tapes. This trio of kinetic and minimalist sounds sees Guy Brewer expanding on the approach from Neither Curve Nor Edge, stripping down dance forms to their micro-structures. The album focuses intensely on sound, texture and tense atmospheres with predictably excellent results. Tracks like 'Coastal' pulse with faint hardcore energy and muted dub, while 'Wood Over Plastic' deconstructs rhythm across surreal spaces. The closer, 'Locus,' delves into sharp percussion and creeping sub-bass that leaves you wanting more, in a good way.

Now he is freeing himself of those purism shackles as Carrier and has started his own self titled label to do so. He means business from the off here with 'Into The Habit' a melange of busted rhythms and caustic textures and 'Shading' exploring minimalist drum programming and dramatic synthscapes. The combination of the light and the dark, the heavy with the more deft is intriguing once more on the loopy clatter of 'Still So' while closer 'The Motions' suspends you in some pensive pads while fizzing bursts of noise bring some texture.

Intel (5:35)
Force Field (4:44)
Syntax (5:29)
GS5 (re-edit) (4:36)
Metropolis (4:14)
Recon (5:27)
Review: Data Sync is a sub-label of Non Stop Rhythm and now label head Tom Carruthers is back on it with more of his fierce techno explorations. 'Intel' opens proceedings with some taught synth twangs and stomping drum work that will bring physicality to the floor. 'Force Field' is a similarly stomping sound with bright bells looping up top and 'Syntax' is a raw percussive frother with acid run right through it. 'GS5' (re-edit) is another one with some fresh synth sounds bringing light to the physical low ends and 'Metropolis' gets snappy and jacked up while 'Recon' closes down with some tribal energy and bleeping 90s references.

Last Night (feat Harriet Brown - MAD vocal mix) (7:11)
Last Night (6:27)
Phone Sexting (5:23)
New Life (5:19)
Review: One-man dance music production line Tom Carruthers - a regular contributor to L.I.E.S and the man behind the admirable Nonstop Rhythm label - makes his bow on Make a Dance's M.A.D imprint. Fittingly, the fast-rising duo kick things off with their take on title track 'Last Night', delivering a vintage-sounding house cut featuring sublime lead vocals from Harriet Brown that sits somewhere between Frankie Knuckles' turn-of-the-90s productions and Larry Heard's late 80s deep house jams. Carruthers' gorgeous instrumental original mix follows. Over on side B, 'Phone Sexting' sees Carruthers blur the boundaries between proto-house and early Chicago jack tracks, while 'New Life' is a picturesque slab of deep techno loveliness.

Confidential (5:38)
Lurk (5:41)
Optic 2X (5:37)
Review: Tom Carruthers takes the baton for Clone Jack For Daze here and in doing so offers up more of his irresistibly jacked-up jams. Each one distils plenty of classic tropes next to a keen eye for futurism with no-nonsense sound designs and hints of bleep techno all colouring the airwaves. 'Analysis' opens with a blend of bristling analogue beats and smooth chords, 'Confidential' has warped synth bass adding a dark edge and 'Lurk' is another menacing sound with eerie pads. 'Optic 2X' is a thumping closer with mystic atmospheres encouraging deep thought.

So Long (5:35)
Lost World (7:07)
Echoes (5:18)
Mode 7 (5:32)
Review: UK producer Tom Carruthers brings some old school house and techno charm to this new EP on the EYA records label. He kicks it off with the forests and mystic sounds of 'So Long' which is warm and smooth with slick drum work, then 'Lost World' brings some subtly and stylish trance overtones with its glowing, firefly-like melodies and buffed metal snares. 'Echoes' gets a little darker, with clacking hits turbocharging the tech house beats and 'Mode 7' then cutting loose on warped bass and psyched out synth lines. These are timeless and more than useful cuts for heady floors.

The 1987 EP
Cat: SS 012. Rel: 21 Aug 01
Leon Carson - "China Trax" (8:32)
Theo Parrish - "Insane Asylum" (9:57)
Review: Oh yes, we love it when Theo represses some of his most sought after tracks and this one is particularly well-timed. Leron Carson is still an unknown figure, a kid who used to make viciously raw and futuristic techno tracks in the late 1980's! "China Trax", alongside the rest of his tracks on a different Sound Signature double 12", is totally ahead of its time and if it was truly made in 1987 then it is nothing short of amazing. Of course, it's not just the year it was made in that's interesting but also the fact that it's music without an age, able to be appreciated by any generation of techno freaks. Theo's own "Insane Asylum" on the flipside is also pretty monumental; rigged beats, off-kilter grooves and that familiar spontaneity so heavily associated to the label.

Raspmutal (7:55)
Down Turn (5:09)
Fullow Street (5:28)
Process (7:12)
Review: It was the Sprungkartellwachs label that first put this out and soon after it became something of a cult classic that has since become much sought after. Mat Carter's own Varial label now has the rights to a proper re-release that will once again have dance floras twisted inside out and back to front. There is a freaky future menace to the paranoid synth and bumping drums of 'Raspmutal' before 'Down Turn' spins out into the cosmos on icy electro rhythms. Slowing things down for some stoned inward reflection is the gorgeous downtempo cut 'Fullow Street' before 80s synths bring retro charm to the cinematic electro of 'Process.'
