Wanna Dance (Moondance Hi-Tech mix) (6:24)
Wanna Dance (EVM128 remix) (4:29)
Review: 'Wanna Dance' is the new jam by deep house heavyweight Sean McCabe (Good Vibrations) and Last Forever chief Turbojazz. Said to be conceived during the lockdown period, the track recalls the energy of classic Detroit deep house and even features one of the city's favourite voices in the form of Javonntte. On the flip, the spiritual vibe of Moondance's rework calls to mind the work of Motor City legend Alton Miller, while EVM128 aka Evermean Beats really soaks up the vibe of his new hometown - London - on his nu-jazz broken beat perspective that would make even Kaidi Tatham stand up and notice.

REPRESS ALERT: After a strong opening bout, Chubby! steps back in the ring with more quality-assured deep house roundhouses from heavyweight prize fighters. Trinidadian Deep did such a fine job on the first Chubby! they've invited him back to unfurl a transcendent wooze of tumbling percussion and heady organ tones. Vincent Floyd steps up on remix duties, turning "Rebel Fract" into a more sharply rendered strutter buoyed by the original's radiant synths. Detroit don Javonntte drops in on the B side with the utterly classy "Jazzy Day", which funks and bumps with an unmistakable Motor City ruffness and some gorgeous melodic flexing over the top. Patrice Scott then steps in for a remix that finds the veteran producer wriggling into a stunning house shuffle with a piano line to die for.

Fall In Love
Review: As the mighty UK stalwart that is Freerange fast approaches its 300th EP it looks to Toronto Hustle for its latest deep house transmission. As always these are smooth and sophisticated sounds with 'Deep In This' kicks off with rippling synth sequences and dusty house drums staying low under some subtle vocal sounds that bring an intimate edge. The Late Night dub reduces things into even more quiet and unassuming territory and 'Fall In Love' then brings vamping chord energy and clouds of whispering vocals and a Demuir God Speaks remix jacks it up a little with some extra house swing.

Review: Manchester label Ten Lovers Music returns this week with five new offerings of quality deep house music. Maltese producer Melchior Sultana takes you on an evocative and soulful journey with 'Spectres' led by its creamy Rhodes melody, while 'Secret Garden' (reprise) by Paul David Gillman Presents Red Earth Design is a beatless neo-classical arrangement that's perfect to watch the Balearic sunset. Elsewhere, Italian producer ReeKee offers up a couple of dusty late night numbers in the vein of the Detroit deep house sound, and the ever impressive Javonntte closes it out with 'Satellites & Dreamers'.

Review: It's silly but true that anything which has the words Detroit on it will immediately get more attention than something that doesn't. 99% of the time though the music lives up to that reputation as is the case here with a fourth offering from Detroit Sound Odyssey. It's a four-tracker that sees Isaac Prieto hook up with different collaborators on each tune. Moppy and 'Double Bass' open up with a well-swung house kick and deep bass combo while the machines get a little more unhinged on 'What Do You Want' with G&J. Javonntte brings his signature depth to 'Imperfections' and Ali Orlandi adds a heavyweight downbeat headiness to 'I Like That'.

Review: Isaac Prieto is Mexico-born but Detroit based and that is presumably where he hooked up with the Motor City's assured house auteur Javonntte. The pair take a trip through scuffed-up deep house brilliance here with the chattery claps and blurting bass of spaced-out opener 'One Take' before 'Brothers In Rhythm' is a more dance-y cut with pinging kicks and detuned synths stumbling about the mix to make for a brilliant sense of mechanical funk. 'High Energy' brings edgy chord stabs over busted beats and bass and 'Lost & Found' is more kinetic analogue madness with hurried techno hi-hats, spangled pads and punchy kicks all bringing an utterly fresh type of sound.

Review: Before relocating to New York City last year, Pontchartrain invited the legendary Javonntte over to record some material at his east-side Detroit studio. The result was the deep, down and dirty late night groove of 'Keep Dancing' (Detroit mix) while the NYC mix is a more pumping, heads-down affair on an old school electronic disco vibe with a nice dose of 303 acid for good measure. Over on the flip, 'Cirrus' is a deeper, cloudy and synth-heavy house track, which is backed by Delano Smith's dubby and hypnotic Motor City Re-Rub.

Keeping in line with the label's love of dusty, sample based music inspired by hip hop and house productions, Garrett brings that unmistakable Midwest deepness of "Love Without You" and the sultry "Sweet Midnight" featuring Nikki O's sensual vocals into play. Review: Having dropped his Lagarius album earlier this year, Detroit mainstay Gary Martin is back on his Teknotika label with a collaborative EP with fellow Motor City legend Javonntte. The story goes that Martin had planned a break from the studio, but instead wound up connecting with Javonntte to lend his considerable keyboard talents to one of Martin's beats, which wound up in two different versions of 'The Infinite Time', now found on the B-side of this single. In both mixes, Javonntte's keys soar high and Martin's beats move with a broken flex that only adds to the jazziness. A-side track 'Zurvan' came after, balancing the record out with an Eastern-tinged melodic scale which gives the record an enchanting, mysterious quality.

Review: Wax mania Records comes through with a unique take on funk-house. The nerve-piquingly titled 'Fatal 4 Way' hears four tracks by various artists of the label's local house and disco scene join forces for one track per corner. L.D.F. vs Son Of Diapa's 'Once Upon A Time' hears a wicked tempo-shifting version from DJ Fett Burger, while 'Midnightrunners' by the same duo is impressive for its lightweight drumwork and comparatively weighty basses and puffs of synthetic air.

Review: Lello Di Franco is L.D.F. and Brian Garrett is Javonntte and together they are a peerless deep house combo with perfect deep house sound. For this one they arrive on YORE with artful yet floor-ready grooves that are steeped in classicist traditions but are executed with modern style. 'How We Groove' has a busted bassline powering along slinky drums and a chopped up vocal under swirling chords. 'From Day To Night' smooths things out with wispy cosmic synths darting about over chunky beats and 'Believe' then gets a little more prickly and jazz tinged in its synth work.

On this release, Laseech has reached out to the mighty, eternally prolific Javonntte for a little vocal magic, resulting in the utterly sexy deep house burner "More Than Friends". It's a track that Marcel Vogel & Tim Jules clearly dig, judging by the light touch they applied to their own remix of the track. "Take You Away" on the flip is another sweet and sultry warm-up or backroom jam that gets lifted even higher by Javonntte's stellar vocals.

Review: Lumberjacks in Hell's latest release may well be the smoothest, warmest and most soulful chunk of deep house we've heard so far in 2021. 'Jus Move' is a cross-generational collaboration between Jonna and Javontte, with both providing slick, eyes-closed vocals atop a hazy, occasionally loopy backing track (all clipped organ sounds, unfussy drum machine beats and woozy chords). It's followed on side A by one of the final remixes by the late, great Michael Baumann AKA Soulphiction - a dusty, jazzy, warming and tactile take tailor-made for dancefloors at sunrise. Detroit's Marcellus Pittman provides a longer, Osunlade-influenced take on the flip - think deep Afro-house with plenty of jazzy mucsical details and you're close.

Review: Spanish label Mate are back with more excellent house cuts from different corners of the scene. The endlessly prolific Javonntte is in control on the A side, sounding as iconic as ever with the rousing thump of "Quantom". "Mr DJ" is a more soulful track with a catchy vocal hook you'll be humming to yourself for weeks after hearing it. On the flipside, Simon Garcia's The Blaxploited Orchestra is in heavy edit mode on "Ready To Go", bringing a full-frequency funk and sizzling house drums to the fore with a classic sample or two. "Explicit" has a lower tempo, allowing even more space to sink into the pocket and feel the groove from start to finish.

Review: Masterful house artists Javonntte and Malik Alston take care of two tracks each on this seriously weight new EP via Hardmatter. Javonntte kicks off with the hulking great kicks and low-slung bass of 'Dirtydigital' before Malik Alston steps up with the jazzed-out joys of 'Lightshine,' a much more loose and expressive groove with lush percussion and keys. Javonntte's B-side cut 'Martha's In Love' then brings gorgeous synth fluidity over US house grooves and 'Stand' from Alston closes out with star-gazing jazz-house. All four cuts are fresh, inventive, vibey.

Review: The latest joint on Minneapolis Exchange welcomes Detroit house master Javonntte on one side, and Minneapolis' Lowry Boys on the flip. Javonntte is on impeccable form, unfurling his cool and smoky strain of soul on "Say it" and amping up the emotion with the heartfelt "Tears". "Acid House" isn't quite a jacker, but more of a curious diversion into deep house with a 303 undercurrent. Lowry Boys' "Minneapolis Funk" is a blunted bumper - packing loads of swing but keeping the chord hook submerged. "Shag Carpets" is a sweet, piano-sprinkled delight, and "Pure Uncut Acapella" gives you the vocal sample from "Minneapolis Funk" to drop in wherever you want to.

There's naturally plenty to get the blood pumping throughout, from the thrillingly off-kilter Afro-house rhythms of Mike Agent X Clark's 'My Journey Thru Africanism', and Javontte's sensational 2021 single 'Soul People', to the liquid jazz-funk/deep house fusion of BRS' fantastic 'A Night To Remember' - all rubbery bass guitar, huggable chords, glistening guitars, fluttering flutes and swinging beats - and the driving, gospel-influenced peak-time brilliance of Laroye's 'Best Girlfriends (Soulful Mix)'. Review: Two takes on the same basic idea here, as Innermoods head honcho joins forces with Detroit producer Javontte - someone who has been in fine form of late - and Brooklyn buddy DJ Romain. Javonntte and Duncan's version of "Drumz Of Africa" is deliciously percussive and groovy, with tasty trumpet lines and warming chords rising above loose-limbed machine drums and a toasty bassline. Romain goes heavier on the drums on his version, placing Duncan's Latin-inspired trumpet work over a combination of dense machine beats and bongo-heavy hand percussion. It's the more obviously floor friendly of the two and all the more remarkable given that it was apparently jammed out in East Flatbush on a Sunday night.

Review: Tales Italy looks to the Motor City for this fresh four tracker featuring some of Detroit's most assured talents. Javonntte sets things moving with 'House Express,' a rickety house groove with plenty of that celebrated US soul. DJ SCSI offers a brilliantly crisp and frosty electro jam in the form of 'Robotik Dance (Shake Yo Thang)' and Brian Kage's 'Connected Principal' heads to the stars on chilly smeared pads and compiling broken beats. The rumbling bassline is the real standout feature though. Lastly, Drivetrain builds the pressure with the tense tech house loops of 'Dark Liaison.' Crucial stuff.

Since, he's kept himself busy by playing instruments on records by Mike Grant's Cool Ppl project. There's much to admire on this five-track collection, from the fluid deep house bump of "Bounce" - whose killer bassline impressively drives things forward - and wavy late night positivity of "Chaka's Revenge", to the classic US deep house brightness of "My Life". The EP concludes with two versions of "These Words"; the super-soulful, vocal dreaminess of "Mix 3", and the similarly warm and comforting "Original Instrumental".

He's been doing his do since the 90s, having first started playing piano aged just 15 and later touring with Aretha Franklin. That means his music always comes with proper chords and rich melodies as well as timeless house beats that are as interesting as they are irresistible. 'Get Down' here is a real cracker with funky bass riffs and chunky kicks next to soulful vocal swirls, while 'Outerbound' is pure jazz-funk goodness with noodling keys and chords and a beatdown groove to die for.

For the uninitiated, the Detroit native has worked with local legends such as Andres and Amp Fiddler, in addition to touring as a dancer for the legendary Aretha Franklin back in the day. Review: Quality Vibe sub label Traxx Underground (founded in 2012 and run by Samann) is the latest imprint to get hold of more valued work from the vaults of legendary Brian Garrett aka Javonntte, following up his appearances on labels like Quintessentials, LPH White and Skylax. The Italian label presents the deep and soulful bounce of "Makes Me Feel" a classic and timeless stateside house feel. On the flip, we are treated to the super sexy JB Dub which is injected with more dancefloor dynamics and a handy instrumental version too.

Review: There has certainly been a revived interest in the work of underrated Detroit veteran Brian Garrett's work, with unreleased gems from his archive and new material alike making big impression on a new generation of dancers. His latest one comes courtesy of We Will Always Be A Love Song following some great ones by Ilija Rudman, Ponty Mython and Melchior Sultana. It is a another terrific expression of real proper deep house music. From the driving and hypnotic dub of "January People" to the soulful and uplifting mood lighting of "All Right" and sexy, emotive late night groove ("City To City") - nobody does it quite like Javonntte.

Review: Congratulations to Brian "Javonntte" Garrett, who this year celebrates two decades releasing mind-expanding deep house gold. His first 12" of 2018 sees him pop up on People Of Earth, a label that has previously delivered EPs from such scene stalwarts as Rick Wade, Patrice Scott and Kai Alce. Fittingly, Garrett is in a nostalgic mood on opener "Way Back", where his deep, dreamy and soul-flecked deep house groove is accompanied by a spoken word vocal reminiscing about the mid 1990s. Elsewhere, "Zodiac" wraps starbust motifs around a chunky, bass-heavy groove, "House Joint" is a bumpin' box jam rich in sturdy drum machine hits and swirling chords, and "Boom House" is a slightly tougher workout that boasts beats worthy of Derrick Carter or DJ Sneak.

Searching (radio mix) (5:23)
Private Party (6:25)
Life Rhythm (5:18)
Review: Under the Javonntte pseudonym, Brian Garrett has delivered some of the most impressive deep house records of recent years. Predictably, the quality threshold remains high throughout this latest Javonntte EP, Garett's first for Alex Attias's Visions Inc. label. On the A-side you'll find "Vocal" and "Radio" versions of "Searchin", a soul-powered chunk of analogue-rich deepness that sits somewhere between the musically complex brilliance of Ron Trent and the slick, rolling warmth of early '90s Goldtone Records releases. Turn to the B-side and you'll find "Private Party", a chunkier and rougher, riff-propelled peak-time bumper, and the redlined, Chez Damier-meets-Derrick Carter bounce of "Life Rhythm". As the old cliche goes, this is all killer and no filler.

Review: It would be fair to say that Javontte (AKA original '90s deep house producer Brian Garrett) has been making up for lost time. Since returning to action in 2016, he's released no less than ten 12" singles, all of which have been packed with high quality material. Predictably, it's hard to find fault with the five fine tracks featured on Garrett's first contribution to the Let's Play House "White" series. Check, for example, the bumpin' '90s deep house warmth of opener "Just Listen", where ascending electric piano lines rise above toasty chords and sneaky vocal samples, and the feel-good roll of "Capricorn". Elsewhere, we recommend the spacey bounce of "City to City People", which also features a wobbly, D&B style bassline, and the laidback dancefloor jazziness of evocative closer "Organic J Mix 2".

Review: Following his "Late Night Sessions" earlier this year Detroit's Brian Garrett returns to Trouble Kids with another generous helping of straight up strutting house music. From the full-frontal jacks of "Ounce Is" and the divine vocal-looping "Say Summin'" we slip into something more boompty and comfortable on "Aquarius Swing" and tantalise our senses of "Life Of Love" before shedding more layers until we're writhing in otherworldly groove nudity on the re-shuffle. "Same Feelings" closes on a juicy Jersey garage warm organ vibe. Feeling it?

Review: You'll struggle to find a more sumptuous set of deep house tracks than those featured on The Groove Society, the latest EP from prolific producer Javontte. It's his fourth 12" of the year, but there's no audible drop in quality. Choose between the bumping, bass-heavy goodness of "Groove Society... Detroit", the sumptuous jazz-funk synth solos, crunchy snares and swirling pads of "Reachin", the tactile soulful house sunshine of "Heaven (Vocal Mix)", the riff-laden light night box jam that is "Can't Leave" and the jazzy, Ron Trent-ish early morning bliss of "Sometimes". Naturally, all are superb, making this one of his more desirable EPs.

Review: The tenth release on Sebo K's Scenario label comes from Brian "Javonntte" Garrett, a producer who has been in fine form since returning to action in 2016 following nearly two decades out of the game. As you'd expect, the standard of the four tracks is up there with the best U.S deep house around. We're particularly enjoying the crunchy, bass-heavy bustle of "Vibe" and the sweet, head-in-the-clouds goodness of closer "Berlin", where jazzy electric piano notes rise above another crunchy, no-nonsense rhythm track. That said, the classic deep house haziness of opener "The J Mix" - all rolling riffs, Chez Damier beats and cut-up soulful vocal samples - is also hugely endearing.

Touch
Review: Deep house don Brian Garrett has been blazing a trail through the scene via a huge swathe of releases for labels like Sistrum, NDATL, Quintessentials and Skylax, with this year being a particularly prolific one. Now he shores up on Earl Jeffer's Melange with a three tracker steeped in his smooth and sultry sound, leading in with the sax-and-vox-soaked funk of "Let The Music Play." "Day" takes a more sultry approach, locking into a tightly shuffling groove peppered with bugging chord chops and breathless vocal murmurs. "Touch" amps up the soul for the EP closer, riding high on a life-affirming organ line and soaring strings.

Review: Sounds Of The City continues to fly the flag for soul enhanced house music from unsung heroes as Javonntte joins the fray with some absolutely un-missable grooves. "Fantasy" seems to capture some of the heated romance of the Cassio Ware classic but reworks it into a fresh, bumping concoction of the highest order. "Late Night People" meanwhile heads into slinkier territory with its killer chord flourishes and tightly wound beat, and then "MRDJ" turns the heat back up with a powerful lead hook purpose-built to get hands held aloft. This is the best kind of upfront house music, oozing soul and sophistication while keeping things utterly funky at all times.

Review: It's a busy month for Detroit veteran Brian 'Javonntte' Garrett, who has a new EP on The Jazz Dairies as well as this new 12" on Ten Lovers Landing simultaneously. He's an artist who cut his teeth playing on tour with Aretha Franklin so is the real deal. Jazz, house, broken beat, Latin rhythms and plenty more all feature in his work. Since the 90s his virtuoso keys have got people dancing and do so again here: 'March' is brilliantly off grid and loose, 'Parade' heads to the stars on cosmic safari and 'Riodashansepa' is all broken beats and busy key solos.

What's more, there's a remix from Brooklyn's Toribio, known for his BDA party and his work as the brains behind Conclave (Love Injection Records).
