9DW - "Bobby's Jam" (12" mix)
9DW - "Funky Magician"
Smooth Tutors - "Groovejam 1.6"
Smooth Tutors - "Rhododendron"
Review: Ooh... Only 350 of these hand numbered doozies are being pressed with no digital versions and a three colour hand-stencilled sleeve. Talk about hot property! Naturally the content is exemplary. A classic east-meets-west scenario: Japan's 9DW shows off his slinky jazz boogie side and more mischievous Italo side with "Bobby's Jam" and "Funky Magician" respectively. Meanwhile on the B Pittsburgh live fusionists get loose with a Pat Metheny style jazz session ("Groovejam 1.6") and a freaky drum-supported bed of Rhodes and crisp clean guitars ("Rhododendron").

Rick Wade - "Loosingher"
Rick Wade - "Drift"
KSoul & Muteoscillator - "Funkin' Our Ass"
Review: Detroit don Rick Wade pops up on Italian imprint Kinda Soul with a brace of deep house treats. Wade's "Loosingher" and "Drift" take up the A-Side, with the organ-filled jazzy undertones of the former only just shading the crisp thump of the latter. KSoul & Muteoscillator team up for "Funkin' Our Ass" on the flip, which serves as a master class in how to combine crisp percussion, warm chords and drowned out vocal samples into one hell of a groove.

Scarlit Port - "Touch U Without Touchin Ur Skin" (4:44)
Review: Following up some great releases by the likes of Greek analogue punk Morah, Gavin Pykerman aka Koova and French veteran Automat - London's Brokntoys are back with a wicked double header. On the A side of this Split EP we have Identified Patient (Pinkman/Common Thread) who serves up the guttural slo-mo techno of "Weerlos" and the electro-noir body music of "Stretch Out For Nothing". On the flip, the EBM/industrial vibe continues with Nurse boss Ali Najafi aka Scarlit Port - who delivers the slow burning sleaze of "Marg" (reminiscent of Front 242 circa Geography) and the factory floor groove of "Touch U Without Touchin Ur Skin" powered by appropriate metallic clangs, acidic arpeggios and brooding strings.

Muslimgauze - "Untitled 1985" (Victor Shan & Gerd Janson rave mix) (6:27)
Underspreche - "Flowers From The Lake" (7:13)
Underspreche - "Naked" (7:28)
Review: According to JD Twitch, the late Bryn Jones recorded this untitled track during the mid-'80s and used tape loops instead of sampler to create the rolling breaks and rough riffs that comprise "Untitled". Fittingly, Twitch's Optimo Trax has commissioned Victor Shan and Running Back's Gerd Janson to rework it. The first take, the 'Rave' version, resounds to dark hardcore stabs and similarly tough breaks, while on the 'Morning' take, ponderous pianos and dubbed out claps prevail. While Italian pair Unterspreche drop the ethnic sampling groove of "Flowers from the Lake" on the flip, it feels like an afterthought compared to Muslimgauze's pioneering pre-hardcore.

High Wolf - "Theorem 86" (5:13)
The Durian Brothers - "Mathemanique" (6:49)
The Durian Brothers - "Flustertute" (5:34)
Review: The Diskant label has been among our favourites over the last three years and its boss men, The Durian Brothers, are without doubt some of the most interesting producers alive right now. This is because they play with the genre, they merely use it as a base for their tribalistic rhythms to grow and land on different, much more cinematic territories. This time, side A is helmed by like-minded producer High Wolf, who delivers a nutty, tropical kind of waver on "ARA13", and an even more tripped-out set of jungle hypnotics through "Theorem 86". The Brothers jump in on the flip with the gloriously dubby and steely rhythm of "Mathematique" - the sure winner on here - and the more broken, more abstract pile of drums and hollow bass that makes up "Flustertute". Excellent, as always.

The KVB - "I Call First" (4:26)
The KVB - "Outlines" (3:06)
Review: New York's Felte label is famed around our parts for knowing how to put together a collaborative EP, but this latest joining of forces from the Flaamingos and The KVB is simply right on the money! The former are a household band who have appeared repeatedly on the label, an outfit who share a post-punk sensibility, while the latter are a Berlin-based duo who indulge in dark and brooding club music that's strangely free of any genre tags. The A-side features three tracks from the band, where the wonderful "Naomi" steals the limelight thanks to its melancholic mood and driving percussive beats, while the flip contains three slabs of moodier, vocal-filtered electronica; our pick has to be "Still Warm" for its early eighties Mancunian edge. Deep and mesmerising!

Review: Launching with both serious and strange statements of intent: the location-unknown vinyl only E-Beamz imprint continues its wide-armed embrace of the deep with another boundary-smashing 12". US mystery man Tlim Shug paves the path with chugging Chi-town jack that wouldn't go amiss in a Farina set while Playstation (a Frenchman you may know as Maukook) lays down an Omni Trio flavoured jungle joint that's coated in pads so thick and breezy you can taste them. Delicious.

Ruben Patino - "Strategies On Self Promotion & Autoreferentiality" (10:45)
No God Ritual - "Understanding Is Compression" (9:07)
Review: Athens-based Hypermedium label got off to a cracking start last year thanks to a debut release by Evol. They're back now with a double-header by the emerging electronic duo Patino and No God Ritual, the former hailing from Spain and the latter being a Greek compatriot to the label heads. Patino's A side, "Strategies On Self Promotion & Autoreferentiality" explores the blurred lines between archaic electronics and noise music, creating a delightful groove out of basic elements which, together with a methodical arrangement, sound playful and compelling. No God Ritual resides on the flipside, and his "Understanding Is Compression" follows a similarly loose, bric-a-brac style of production that blends a myriad of different styles and moods together under one groove...or something that represents one. Whatever you want to label it as, we think it's some seriously dope material.

DJ Plant Texture - "I Don't Dance" (7:37)
DJ Shark - "Cat Ears" (6:41)
Review: DJ Plant Texture is this year's winner of 'production moniker of the year' (or at least he would be, should such an award actually exist). This 12" sees the Bari-based producer make his first appearance on DJ Haus' face-chewing, rave-inspired Unknown To The Unknown imprint. "I Don't Dance" is a typically full-throttle concoction, with the Italian producer making merry with mind-altering acid lines, snappy house rhythms and drowsy, ultra-deep chords. On the flip, Hungarian misfit Gnork dons his occasional "jungle techno" alias, DJ Shark, and delivers another typically spacey chunk of mid-90s D&B revivalism. It's rather fine, of course, and offers a refreshing alternative to the textured one's impressively manic A-side.

Die Roh - "Coming Out" (6:25)
Trudge - "Give" (6:23)
Die Roh - "Her First Time" (5:51)
Trudge - "Series 7" (4:20)
Review: Italy's Die Roh have come a long way since their first release for Vae Victis back in 2012 alongside Blawan, releasing plenty of militant house and techno with a rugged, analogue feel that sits just right with us. They're up on Axe Traxx this time for the label's second outing, and they're joined by newcomer Trudge. The former delivers a deep, lean deep house chugger in "Coming Out", relatively more docile than their previous material but it's still cut-throat enough to sound booming on a system and provoke a series of bodies to start moving thanks, in part, to its kinetic percussion rhythm and sublime keys. Trudge come through with "Give", a sludgy house monster with a brittle drum flex and banging toms built for destructive DJ use. On the flip of the wax plate, Die Roh are back with the funkier, more uplifting house bullet "Her First Time", but "Series 7" by Trudge is the killer on here, the shadiest house tune of them all that reminds us of Greg Beato at his very best. This is one hell of a tip - don't miss it.

Jack Dixon - "New Curtains"
Jack Dixon - "New Curtains" (Troy Gunner remix)
Review: The styles don't come more modern than this, as White Asega marks up its fourth release in a continuing trans-Atlantic operation between London and New York. On this occasion Kodiak leads the charge on the A side with a bashy twist on electro-techno heavy on the synths but with the whiplash drums taking centre stage. Bambounou's remix comes off decidedly conservative by comparison, opting for a reduced techno cycle in contrast to all the rowdiness. Jack Dixon meanwhile drops his own fiery number in the shape of "New Curtains", triggering rapid fire samples with a Latin flavour and keeping the beat snappy. Troy Gunner then duly reworks the track into a moody stepper for the crafty heads out there.

Dolphins - "Commando High" (4:41)
Odopt - "Fear" (4:36)
Odopt - "Syntagma" (6:42)
Review: Serenades continues its split release adventures with this exquisite five tracker from Dolphins and Odopt. If musicality, and a musical experience, are what you're after then consider this just what you've been looking for. Opening with the somewhat surprisingly dancefloor-friendly 'Kombination', a slow mo breaks number with retro futurist dressing, and although things sound quite leftfield it doesn't quite prepare you for how deep the rabbit hole goes.

From thereon in it's a question of being sucked further down into strange but incredible places. 'Commander' could almost be unreleased Sabres of Paradise stuff, 'Fear' hangs us on a knife-edge of warbles and broken beats, heads down and tense, 'Syntagma' cuts to the fours with a heavy, atmospheric chugger. We could go on, but you should be convinced already.
