Aborting Your Dreams (hand-stamped 12")
Cat: PBD 10. Rel: 18 Dec 17
  1. Peaceful Panic (6:21)
  2. Sleep Without Rest (4:35)
  3. Everything Is Done (feat Lasznikoff) (6:13)
Review: The latest instalment in Pinkman's white label Broken Dreams series is a collaborative affair with imprint affiliate Identified Patient joining forces with vocalist Sophie Du Palais, who has previously contributed to one of the producer's other EPs. Du Palais is in full on mascara-clad minimal wave mode on trippy opener "Peaceful Panic", a throbbing fusion of raw synthesizer riffs, mind-altering arpeggio lines and crunchy drum machine hits. Her stylish spoken word vocals come to the fore on dark and psychedelic electro number "Sleep Without Rest", before Lasznikoff joins in the fun on closer "Everything is Done", a fuzzy and up-tempo workout rich in macabre, low-register riffs, incessant percussion hits and trippy, late night aural textures.

  3. Identified Patient - "OCTrax" (7:29)
  4. Randstad - "Glasbak" (5:32)
Review: As the title suggests, this is the first volume in a series of 12" singles designed to celebrate five years of admirable Dutch label Pinkman. It's naturally packed with previously unheard treats, with a trio of label regulars being joined by newcomer Randstad. Ernestas Sadau steps up first to set the tone, delivering a raw, creepy and paranoid analogue throb-job rich in psychedelic electronic motifs, EBM style arpeggio lines and snappy machine percussion. Alessandro Parisi's "ZeroCool" sounds like a dystopian cover version of the KLF's original 1988 version of "What Time is Love" (that's a good thing, by the way), while Identified Patient's "OCTrax" joins the dots between Nitzer Ebb, Italo-disco and new beat. As for Randstad, the artist's "Glasback" is a dubby, otherworldly treat rich in odd spoken word vocals and gloomy chords.
