Inside Part 3
Cat: NERO 061. Rel: 26 Mar 24

Deep House
Fred P - "Time Well Spent" (8:21)
Rest Symbol - "Etius Motif" (2:43)
Resonating - "J707" (6:05)
Patrice Scott - "Untitled" (Beat version) (8:55)
Review: Volcov steers the good ship Neroli towards more of that immaculately curated deep gear you know they do so well. The Inside series reaches part three with another heavyweight cast, leading in with the mighty Fred P on the crisp rhythms and considered chord movements of 'Time Well Spent'. Rest Symbol follows up with a powerful strain of synth orchestration which adds a moody intensity to the record, while Resonating creates a raw, seductive beatdown on 'J707' that will satisfy any discerning outboard house fiend. Patrice Scott then seals the deal with a submerged 'Beat Version' of an untitled track that course through snaking rhythms at a slower tempo perfect for some backroom scene setting or creative warm-up blending.

Odyss Dance
Cat: POEM 005. Rel: 16 Sep 16

Deep House
Odyss Dance (6:43)
People Music (6:52)
People Music (bonus beats) (3:40)
Review: US deep house master Patrice Scott steps out of his own Sistrum Recordings label and lands on the Detroit-laden People Of Earth for a sublime three-track excursion. "Odyss Dance" is a classic Scott joint, a deep and ethereal house experiment that instantly gives off the producer's signature feel of mystique, best described as a 'dubby haze'. "People Music" is a little brighter, a little warmer around the edges, thanks to an uplifting synth riding solo in the upper edges of the mix, and a funky bassline driving the engine beneath. There's also a 'bonus beats' version as a final slice of magic, where Scott adds a layer of tribalistic percussion to an already ritualistic drum pattern. Another Patrice Scott blinder.

The Elements Series Part 2
Cat: POE 020. Rel: 11 Nov 24

Deep House
Patrice Scott - "Cycles" (7:00)
Allstar MotoMusic - "Not A Place I Call Home" (feat Roger Versey) (6:32)
Alton Miller - "Italio Love" (6:09)
KemeticJust - "Taking Flight" (7:10)
Review: People Of Earth hits release number 20 with Part 2 of The Elements series again offering some super deep sounds from Patrice Scott, Allstar MotoMusic aka Dan Piu, Alton Miller & KemeticJust, which is a cut first released on the old SOCO Audio label. Scott's 'Cycles' kicks off with super deep kicks and heady pads swirling up top, 'Not My Home' (feat Roger Versey) then brings some majestic jazz keys and spiritual vocals and Miller's 'Italio Love' is a strident cut with leggy kicks and celestial pads. KemeticJust's 'Taking Flight' shuts down with more heavy beats but still romantic moods.

Yellow Jackets Vol 3
Cat: YJ 003. Rel: 27 Apr 22

Deep House
Patrice Scott - "Mood Swings" (6:38)
EDB & Gary Superfly - "The Fifth Floor" (7:12)
Review: Detroit legend Patrice Scott joins forces with EDB and Gary Superfly, delivering a two track tidbit of digestible house curios. Scott's A-sider 'Mood Swings' sonically charts the feeling of melancholic ups and downs via minimal house, nailing the dubiousness of the mood with careful portamentos between strung notes, and blue-noted piano to garnish the ivorian cupcake. 'The Fifth Floor', meanwhile, upends things into a much wider, galactic spacefaring affair, as broken beat drums and acid squelch ground pie-in-the-sky flareups of synth.

Hed Kandi Volume 1
Cat: UAR 007. Rel: 12 Jan 22

Deep House
Delano Smith - "The Lost Synth" (part 1) (6:03)
Delano Smith - "The Lost Synth" (part 2) (6:07)
Patrice Scott - "Better Days" (6:45)
Deepset - "Soltek" (4:36)
Review: Don't be misled by the facetious title, there's no handbag house to be found on Hed Kandi Vol. 1. Instead, you'll be treated to some real proper beatdown vibes by some right legends of the Detroit underground, curated by scene stalwart Norm Talley. The ever impressive Delano Smith gets the Mixmode vibe in effect on the hypnotic back room dubs of 'The Lost Synth' parts 1 & 2 respectively which cover the A side. Over on the flip, Sistrum Recordings main man Patrice Scott gets some emotive Motor City soul going on in his inimitable style on 'Better Days' followed by the heads-down basement beats of Deepset's 'Soltek'.
