Quarion (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: DRUMMA 019. Rel: 16 Jul 18
Minimal/Tech House
  1. Barriere De Lumiere (14:28)
  2. Be Bap Bop (8:01)
  3. Barriere De Lumiere (Felipe Venegas Interpreation) (7:48)
Review: Felipe Venegas' Drumma imprint is back with a top release from one of minimal techno's true legends: Luciano. The Cadenza head honcho delivers two examples of his superb sonic sorcery on the Quarion EP. From the slinky and hypnotic epic "Barriere De Lumiere" making use of the Swiss-Chilean producer's examples of amazing hi-tech melodies, while "Be Bap Bop" is more straight-ahead, dancefloor ready tackle with its jacking reductionist bounce. On the flip, there's a remix by Venegas himself which takes "Barriere De Lumiere" down much funkier and polyrhythmic territory. It is perfect for those daytime party vibes on The White Isle this Summer.

Minimal/Tech House
  1. Unknown Source
  2. Unknown Source (Mark Ambrose remix)
  3. Unknown Source (Mark Ambrose bonus beats)
Review: Mark Ambrose is a name more commonly associated with Ben Sims, Kirk DeGiorgio and Paul Mac, than say, a minimal label from Germany. Regardless of association though, Ambrose's remixes here really create this 12". Julian Perez, however, does provide something typically kooky and tabla driven (something you could imagine Petre Inspirescu playing) but it's the two reworks that beef up this 12" without needing any trimmings, bells or whistles. And if the first remix is a little too full of flavour, there's the reduced bonus beats option on the B2.

Smoke Enjoyable (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: DRUMMA 017. Rel: 11 Dec 17
Minimal/Tech House
  1. Smoke Enjoyable (Jazzy) (10:46)
  2. Smoke Enjoyable (dub) (7:23)
  3. Smoke Enjoyable (Alejandro Vivanco remix) (8:05)
Review: Felipe Venegas has cemented his reputation as one of Chile's finest DJs and producers. He teams up with fellow countryman Jose Luis Ordenes aka Umho for some trippy microhouse grooves that are perfectly suited to the afterhours here for his own esteemed Drumma imprint. The imprint searches for a new platform for electronic music, based on clear rhythmic intention, organic expression and with a club orientation. Starting off with the deep and smooth "Smoke Enjoyable" (Jazzy) which will no doubt appeal to the quirky tongue-in-cheek grooves out of Paris made popular by the likes of Cabanne, Lowris or Ark. "Smoke Enjoyable" (dub) injects far more dancefloor dynamic into proceedings with impressive results - this rolling and hypnotic groove reminds us of the work of Romania's Cristi Cons or SIT. Finally, homeboy Alejandro Vivanco hands in a sleek remix which takes it back into reduced afterhours territory and focusing on those entrancing rhythms and hallucinatory sound design for added drama.
