Review: Following fine early outings on House Puff, Tessellate and Dansu Discs, T Jacques co-founded the Nuances De Nuit label. While that outlet has been his main home for the last few years, he still occasionally guests on other imprints. It's what the rising star is doing here, making his first appearance on Gene On Earth's popular tech-house/deep house fusion imprint Limousine Dream. He begins with the warm and woozy 'Houze Control', a thickset slab of loose-limbed deep house excellent peppered with spacey synth sounds, before combining intergalactic tech-house sounds with chunky grooves on title track 'Fingertips'. Over on the reverse, 'Inside Out' is a slightly tougher - but no less bass-heavy or intergalactic-sounding - workout, while '2 Hi' is deep, dubby gear for very late nights and early mornings.

Review: On his long-awaited debut, Osaka's Takuya Matsumoto draws a clear line between the tactile futurism of 90s IDM and the emotional depth of Detroit techno, finding beauty in grit and structure in chaos. There's a cinematic quality to the sequencing, from the shimmering opener 'Drifting On The Ocean' to the gnarled syncopations of 'Dril and Acid' and the broken funk of 'Fonseca'. But what makes this record truly sing is its refusal to sit still: 'Mini' dances with jazzy irreverence, while 'Triangles' feels like a dusted-off memory from a lost Rephlex archive. Matsumoto's palette is warm, spiky, and full of movementian album built not on pastiche but on devotion to groove and experimentation in equal measure. You hear shades of Underground Resistance's urgency, Mike Paradinas' off-grid detail, and Floating Points' melodic intricacy, but none of it feels borrowed. 'Traverse' and 'Mercy on the floor' close things with a spacious melancholy that lingers beyond the final fade. This is a conversation with dance music history, spoken fluently in rhythm and mood. A richly detailed, deeply personal statement from one of Japan's most quietly consistent producers.

Review: Last year, Claremont 56 founder Paul 'Mudd' Murphy finally got round to releasing his second solo album, In The Garden of Mindfulness - a sequel some 18 years in the making. Clearly he felt inspired by that experience, because album number three is due later this year. If this teaser 12" of alternative instrumental mixes of future album tracks is anything to go by, it promises to be another musically detailed and vividly realised release. Written and produced with regular collaborator Michele Chiavarini, both cuts are effortlessly classy. Check first A-side 'Mahalo', a gorgeous chunk of Love Unlimited Orcehstra-goes-jazz-funk brilliance rich in flanged guitars, simmering strings, spacey synths and lolloping grooves, before admiring the dub disco-goes-Balearic shuffle of 'Mata Na', where Chiavarini's brilliant musicianship comes to the fore.

Review: Astonishingly, nine years have now passed since Scottish house hero The Revenge delivered his first EP of Roar Groove label style workouts on German imprint Dirt Crew Recordings. Volume five, the first for some time, is typically packed with playable fare in his hypnotic, analogue-rich style. Review: The Sweet's contribution to the glam rock canon would find itself less popularly cherished than that of their coevals in Slade, Roxy Music and David Bowie, but that doesn't stop their said many hits from utterly reshaping the ridgeline of British pop rock history. Sweet evolved from bubblegum pop beginnings into one of the defining forces of 70s glam rock. Their early chart success kicked off in 1971 with 'Funny, Funny', made in collaboration with hit-making duo Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman. But this new compilation reissue, Platinum Rare 1, does yet more than just fixate on the hits, familiarising us even further intimately with the cat-suited four-piece in their nascency, selecting from longest-surviving member and guitarist Andy Scott's private archive, and with alternate takes, mixes and unreleased tracks recorded by the original lineup.

Review: Two decades deep into his career and still pushing forward, this seasoned German DJ delivers something that feels both timeless and fresh. The original version of 'Kingston Riddim' is a smooth, sun-soaked affair. Drawing from island dub but built with a crisp, modern hand, the track is full of warm organic textures and laid-back swing. The chords are clean and expressive without feeling too polished. There's a breezy confidence to the groove that makes it feel effortless. It's the kind of track that could slip into any set and feel right at home. Sato's interpretation dives into deeper territory. The bass rolls in thick and heavy while the chords get more tangled and echo-laced. There's a submerged quality here, like the track has been dragged through deeper waters. It's moodier than the original but still carries that same rooted sense of rhythm. This is one of those rare records where both sides hit in different but equally effective ways.

Chuck Daniels & Hazmat Live's 'I Want You' is a darker, more heads down affair with freaky vocals and digital synth patterns over gritty, US garage styled low ends. Max Watts then cuts loose with the undulating dub techno depths of 'Velocity' to round out a varied EP.

Review: On only his second EP, this young artist from Vienna shows a sharp ear for atmosphere and weight. The A-side opens with 'Africa Inna (dub)', a slow-burning cut that feels steeped in roots but shaped for modern ears. It moves with purpose, grounded by a heavy low-end and rich, rolling chord echoes that seem to stretch out into the distance. There's a real sense of space here, the kind of low-slung groove that pulls you in. Turn to the other side and 'Dub Poetry' takes things a step further. The mix is full of texture, with sharp details and unusual elements tossed into the fog. It feels deliberate but loose, like the track is breathing in its own rhythm. The echo is everywhere, bouncing around a spoken word message that leans into the deeper side of life. There's a clear vision running through both tracks, nodding to tradition while still carving out something personal. Dub is the foundation, but the perspective feels fresh and alive.

Review: Widescreen bass portamenti and steady-state textures predominate on this new Cleyra release through Timedance. Reflecting the Bristol artist's preference for heavyset bass and hydrop(h)onic textures, we were first turned on to their sound like heliotropic plants to red supergiants, whence in 2022 the 'Soft Bloom' EP offered our ears an ironic floral hardness. Since then, the artist has been hard at work on another five tracker of irreplicable sound, with 'Tumble Turn' and 'There's Nothing Happening Between Us' offering the best of the EP's tresillos and stereo-ecstatic percussions, which seem to paradoxically texturally vary themselves both much and not so much. How did they do it, we wonder?

Review: A decade after it was first released (credited, back then, to Detroit Swindle), Dam Swindle's 'Figure of Speech' EP returns on vinyl in freshly remastered form. It remains one of the Amsterdam duo's most respected and much-loved EPs, and for good reason. Opener 'Figure of Speech' is an infectious, rolling and impressively groovy workout which combines African vocal samples, layered percussion and tidy house breaks with warming deep house chords and tech-tinged electronics. 'Victoria's Secret' is a woozier and more analogue-sounding deep house groover with deliciously positive synth melodies and fizzing riffs, while 'Live at the Cosmic Carnival' is a more percussion-rich slab of jazz-flecked, Batacuda-inspired Latin house heaviness that could well be the EP's most potent moment.

Review: Between 1969 and 1970, Elton John recorded a wide range of cover versions as part of his early career as a session musician and budget label contributor, and this new Iceni compilation tracks some of the very best of that era. Working frequently with producer Paul Brooks and arranger Zack Laurence, he lent his vocals to low-cost soundalike records covering contemporary hits. Be these Beatles or Rolling Stones redos, or personal takes on Simon & Garfunkel through Creedence Clearwater Revival, none were widely credited at the time, and yet they reveal John's vocal adaptability and emerging style, revealing a familiarly trodden path for many a musical mega-greats: as did Johnny Cash all the way through to Justin Bieber, you can make a sure start with covers.

Review: For real! Described by releasing label Treasure as another treasure chest among bluffing crates full of false sonic pyrite, FR's crafts a marine prospector's dream on 'Treasure EP 9'. 'Kuldn't Luv U More' leads with what sounds like an obscure Tracey Thorn flip, while 'Consciousness' furthers the effort at obfuscation with a shaken-down, blunted-to-a-blur kick and hook loop from a glimmering midnight disco cut. 'Insatiable' on the B redoes Thick D's speedy 'Insatiable' by with a saunified overload, pouring hotter water on a ready-heated stove of sultry New York house, while 'I'm Outta Love' does the same to Anastacia's less identifiable but still findable soul belter. Real stumpers on the sample front at first, but we found 'em!

Review: Spanning five EPs beginning with the 2002 EP 'Vrioon', the VIRUS compendium marks an important era in the shared history of minimalist magna Ryuichi Sakamoto and Alva Noto. The look-back comes after the duo first connected through a mutual appreciation for each other's work in the early 2000s: Sakamoto had become interested in experimental electronica and came across Nicolai's (Noto's) minimalisms under the Alva Noto moniker. Intrigued by the precision and texture of Nicolai's sound, Sakamoto reached out; though he was hardly able to predict the unbalanced, restlessly abstract expressionist sound to follow: the sonic equivalent of a sputtery colour field painting.

Review: The latest Lindstrom album is so good that he appears to have dispensed with the spell-checker for the copy i but it's always such a terrific pleasure to hear new music from the Norse disco titan that even the most uptight proofreader will surely forgive him. Back in the noughties, he and compatriot Prins Thomas flipped the script with their immaculately crafted take on the meta-disco sound. And though the frequency of Lindstrom's output has slowed over time, the quality of his production retains its magnificent allure. Syrius Syntoms begins with a bang i glistening synths, snappy drums and pristine melodics on 'Crkl' i before taking acidic turns via 'Thousand Island Man' and drifting into dreamland on 'Moo)n'. 'These Are a Few of My Favorite Strings' adds a little NY house bump, with evocative keys and low-end groove, while the feel-good arps and bouncy bass of the title track are vintage Lindstrom i full of kitsch sparkle and joyous main room energy. Top marks.

This isn't one of Claussell's dubbed-out edits, rather a full rebuild, toughened for long-form dancefloor play, road-tested globally, and now hearing a second press on green vinyl after the initial 100-copy black vinyl run vanished in an hour. The record comes dressed in heavyweight Japanese card with a promo one-sheet designed to echo Warner's classic disco 12"s; for collectors of tactile detail, the packaging hits a sweet spot between homage and fetish object. A true tension-rider, never breaking stride.

Review: Seth Ford-Young's Phi-Psonics return with Expanding To One, a loose-limbed, quietly luminous third LP shaped from live sessions at Healing Force Of The Universe in Pasadena. Since founding the project in 2016, the East LA bassist has used Phi-Psonics as a vessel for collective improvisation and spiritual grounding, but this time there's a sharper edge; fourteen tracks, mostly conceived on the spot with a changeling group of collaborators, hear Ford-Young steer said ensemble through hushed dark jazz abstraction. Review: Resonance Records expands its Takao Fujioka Collection this June with two new anthologies spotlighting previously unreleased performances by pianist Bill Evans and guitarist Wes Montgomery. Wes's Best: The Best of Wes Montgomery compiles the best five of the label's celebrated archival issues of Wes' work, including Echoes of Indiana Avenue, In the Beginning, and Smokin' in Seattle, the latter drawn from 1966 radio sessions with Wynton Kelly's trio, recorded shortly after Smokin' at the Half Note. Three tracks also appear from Back on Indiana Avenue, which debuted as a double vinyl set for RSD 2019. Overseen by producer Zev Feldman with the support of the Evans and Montgomery estates, the release offers rare insight into Montgomery's artistic evolution over time, and as with earlier entries in the series, cover artwork comes from Way Out West editor Takao Fujioka.

Review: A flummoxing fusion of jazz, soul and funk from 1972, Donald Byrd's Think Twice is ironically one of few jazz records that we don't really have to think twice about. Taken from the bokeh-grained, 1974 impressionistic prog-jazz opus Stepping Into Tomorrow - on which a whirlwind cast of performers including Mayuto Correa, Larry Mizell, Gary Bartz and Harvey Mason also appear - Byrd's unmistakable trumpet is heard whinnying across this LP-fronter, which rides serious thermals of flugelhorn, soprano and alto sax, ARP synth and backing choir. The vocals by Kay Haith are duly cautionary, insisting but seemingly also tantalising our worst impulses: "Maybe we oughta think twice... Before we start something nice / No need to sacrifice the spice in our lives, ooh ooh / our love's like fire and ice, pretty baby / That's why we oughta think twice..." A rare anti-YOLO anthem!

Review: Finnish guitarist, tech and visual artist Ville Valavuo's Commemoration Songs plays back like a diary scrawled in sound, traversing eight pieces shaped by disillusion, exhaustion and flickers of hope in a world driven by profit and hollow spectacle. Tracing through recordings made over three sessions in 2024, the record layers free jazz sax lines with soft-focus analogue synth and Rhodes motifs, as well as echo-soaked percussion and sinewy basslines. The record's title nods to a darker irony: honouring the architects of a world-system that survives by immanentising its own violence. As if to match the fact, Valavuo handles nearly everything himself, from tenor and alto sax to shakuhachi, clarinet, programming, and even the front cover layout.

Potassium nitrate fills out the uncontained dancefloor in a flash, as 'Smokescreen' moves through rapid-sequenced sci-fi sounds and low-end lurch; 'Pearl Beach' fires on the laser machine, coming as a zoetrope of slick, tech-tinted percussion and flickery pads. In between, 'Funktion of the Season' with Command D plays it moodier, with submerged atmospherics, while Kitsta rounds things off with a dubwise take on the title cut, stretching it out into hazier territory without losing the original's swing.

This, however, is his solo debut and it's a classy exploration of melodic electro. 'Tharsis' kicks off with lithe synths and sheet metal sounds flapping in a stiff cosmic wind. 'Pavonis' is deeper and more heady, 'Arsia' is built on neck-snapping drum patterns and 'Ascraeus' rides on plaintive pads. Last but not least is a collaboration with Dora Gray, 'Daedalia', which is an ambient-laced delight.

The track's timeless appeal is fully realised through a combination of classic and modern renditions. Side-A has one of the most important versions with the sublime Salt City Orchestra's Out There Mix, a deep house masterpiece with ethereal vocals, hypnotic basslines and an epic feel that makes it timeless as the day it was released. The Trevino Remix flips the track, introducing a more techy, peak-time energy with a rolling bassline that transforms the deep groove into an undeniable floor-filler. Side-B showcases two more versions, beginning with the Frits Wentink Mix, which strips down the track to its soulful essence, focusing on intricate percussion and atmospheric elements.
