Review: Back to the foundations and one of Roger Sanchez's many gamechanging projects: Logic comprised a crew of New York heads and dished out a series of highly influential records between 90-94; "The Warning" and "The Final Frontier" are where it all began. The stark string strikes, the Latino jazz piano, the strutting drums and overall simplicity across both tracks and all versions have remained a benchmark almost 20 years later. Limber up those air piano fingers, dust up on your phase two sermon and be that flower that blossoms through the concrete surface. Reissues were made for this.

Review: A staple of the Strictly Underground discography, "Luv Dancin" is the seminal NYC deep house classic that you should all be familiar with. Produced by the legendary Roger 'S-Man' Sanchez under the Underground Solution alias back in 1990, it receives a much welcomed reissue here, containing all versions and original B sides. From its heart warming house organs, to the boompty bass and super swing-fuelled rhythm, all together providing the perfect backdrop for its roaring vocals. Other than the five remixes, there's also the soulful and emotive "Deep In My Mind" and the hypnotic latin-infused vibes of "Afterthought".

  8. Wink - "Higher State Of Consciousness" (Tweekin Acid Funk) (6:19)
Review: A few months back, iconic New York house label Strictly Rhythm notched up three decades in the business. To celebrate, the label's current owners (BMG fact fans) have decided to offer up a series of celebratory compilations featuring some of the imprint's biggest dancefloor hits. There's plenty to set the pulse racing on this first volume, from the stab-heavy, rave-era filth of CLS's "Can You Feel It (In House Dub)" and the wild acid insanity of Wink's "Higher State of Consciousness (Tweekin Acid Funk)", to the bouncy, mid-to-late-90s US garage chunkiness of Groove Patrol's "Need Your Love", Hardrive's "Deep Inside" and the organ-heavy sweatiness of George Morel's "Let's Groove".

30 Years Of Strictly Rhythm Part 2

  1. Barbara Tucker - "Beautiful People" (Underground Network mix) (8:58)
  2. Essence - "Moments In House" (Full Effect mix - DJ T edit) (6:17)

  6. South Street Player - "(Who?) Keeps Changing Your Mind" (The Night mix) (7:41)
  7. Sole Fusion - "Basstone" (Underground Network mix) (7:19)
Review: Strictly Rhythm's 30th anniversary series of "Best Of" double-packs should be an essential purchase for all those looking to grab some high-grade U.S house from the 1990s and 2000s. As you'd expect, there's some genuine peak-time gold to be found on this second salvo in the series. After beginning with the bumping U.S garage richness of Barbara Tucker's gospel-flecked "Beautiful People", the set variously touches on glitchy deep house goodness (DJ T re-editing the "Full Effect" mix of Essence's "Moments In House"), stomping and muscular deep house (DJ Sneak), jazz-funk inspired house dreaminess (the original version of Wamdue's "King of My Castle") and ambidextrous dancefloor sweatiness (the Kenny Dope style breakbeats, heavy bass and woozy pads of Soul Fusion's "Basstone (Underground Network Mix)".
