Good For Dance
Good For Dance (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: CMR 003. Rel: 22 Nov 21
Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Scruscru & Aman Po-Kaifu - "Acid Salam" (5:36)
  2. Skitcut - "Zaletaet Na Acid" (5:17)
  3. Funkyjaws - "Acid Circus" (6:22)
  4. Eddie C - "Dysk Dzokej On Acid" (3:54)
Review: Craft Music's taste in sizzling hot party music is absolutely confirmed as razor sharp with this third instalment of edits and re-rubs with a twist. Far from vanilla re-arrangements, these re-versions get fruity with the source material and on Good For Dance there's a particular emphasis on acid. First up Scruscru & Aman Po-Kaifu get right down and dirty with Nigerian classic 'Salem' by The Funkees, whipping up a veritable storm with 'Acid Salam'. Next up Skitcut gets into a serious stomp laden with wriggling 303 action on 'Zaletaet Na Acid', and Funkyjaws has some fun weaving slamming claps and nimble bleeps into the brassy source material for 'Acid Circus'. Eddie C rounds things off with a proper rubbery acid tweaker which slips in smooth on 'Dysk Dzokej On Acid'. Classy stuff, and whole heaps of fun for those who love acid, those who love disco, and those who love both.

  4. SofaTalk - "Love In Slow Mo" (4:47)
  5. Replika - "Rings Of Saturn" (7:21)
Review: Deeppa does a fine job of introducing itself into the world of vinyl labels with this inescapably sunny and luxuriant first offering. It's a rich VA affair with grown up grooves and mature musical stylings, starting with Scruscru's pool-side 'Mellow Yellow' and rolling through the more disco flecked undulations of 'Once Again'. Flip it over and you'll find the sun has gone down, the house betas get deep and the Rhodes solos get more twinkling and adventurous. 'Love In Slow Mo' could be a lost Roy Ayers track and 'Rings of Saturn' rides out the EP in smooth fashion.

Deep House
  1. Cool Party Tool (6:21)

Review: Russian team Scruscru meets Meowsn on the 13th release from Outplay, Each of the respective artists have worked on cult labels like Nervous, Star Creature and Sloth Boogie and here cook up some sample heavy grooves that draw on jazz, big chords and sparkling synth sounds. The tracks have a real playful sense of character and tongue in cheek charm which makes them race even quicker into your affections. At times echoing the broken beat scene London was so well known for a few years ago, at others, something entirely new, it's an EP that certainly couldn't be classed as unlucky, despite the cat no.

Spliff Jamz Volume One
Cat: SBJAMZ 008. Rel: 14 Sep 21
Deep House
  1. Spliff Jazz (5:37)
  2. Lazy Daydreaming (5:25)
  3. Got U (5:30)
  4. Hauz Bonger (5:47)
Review: Russian twosome Scruscu and Mike Fot have been jamming together periodically in Moscow for some time, though this EP SlothBoogie's SB Jamz series marks the first time any of their weed-fuelled late-night collaborations have been pressed to wax. There's plenty to get excited about across the EP though, starting with the impeccable, jazz-sampling broken beat/dreamy deep house fusion of the fittingly titled 'Spliff Jazz'. The pair reach for sparkling synth sounds, squelchy electronics and squelchy pads on broken beat shuffler 'Lazy Daydreaming', before adding tweaked vocal samples and jazzy Rhodes keys to a booming sub-bass line and punchy bruk beats on 'Got You'. Finally, they add hip-house style breaks to a warming, retro-futurist deep house arrangement on 'Haus Bonger'.

Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Scruscru - "Slightly Wiggle" (6:06)
  2. Scruscru & S Timoshenko - "Jubilee Boulevard" (6:29)
  3. Common Mode - "Black Mirror" (6:11)
  4. Flabaire - "Shelter" (Rhodes Solo By JD73) (7:50)
Review: After a fantastic first instalment, Deeppa continues its series with Anton Scruscru landing next to his friend Sergey Timoshenko on the a-side. Scruscru goes solo to start with, laying u price languid beats and jazzy keys into a classic summer disco jam and then with Timoshenko they offer 'Jubilee Boulevard', a warm, vibe fuelled dancer for late night and steamy sessions. Common Mode starts up the b-sidfe with the deep, bubbling beats and flute lead bliss of 'Black Mirror' before Flabaire closes down with sunset house gem 'Shelter' featuring a majestic Rhodes solo by JD73. All four of these are primed and ready for summer deployment.
