They have released a fine album on UK label Church but now head to their homeland's Hell Yeah for a debut EP full of magic. Soon, DJ Harvey will release The Sound of Mercury Rising, a compilation themed around some of the music championed at his summer residency at Pikes Hotel, Ibiza. This four-track taster 12" not only acts as a sampler for the CD version, but also offers the chance to own four excellent and hard-to-find gems. You'll struggle to find a more Balearic disco cut than Danish outfit Tore's 1979 killer "She's a Lady" - think the Bee-Gees with Flamenco guitars - while Elkin & Nelson's "Abran Paso - Aboa (Enrole)" is a spiraling chunk of flamenco-psychedelia fusion. Elsewhere, Van McCoy & Soul City Symphony's "Spanish Boogie" is a jaunty disco number full of crunchy Clavinet lines and rising horn lines, while Tony Esposito's "Danza Dell'Acqua" is as eccentric and wide-eyed as they come.

Review: REPRESS ALERT!: The fifth volume of their magnificent Super Spicy Recipe series finds the label's crew in full party effect, with the six tracks here crossing the borders from peak time dropping to essential warm up/down gear. First up, Vagabundo Club Social takes 'Beso Loco' featuring Tomjake Sax and turns up the controls to maximum fun, the Colombians throwing in tons of groove and Afro -influenced percussion, before Monsieur Van Pratt and Guatemalan singer Teff Brolo. This all-original track is leaded by the powerful soulful vocals, accompanied by a groove-infused piano which keeps the beats nicely anchored, followed by the ever dependable Reece Johnson who closes off this side. Flip it over for Bernardo Mota & Boogietraxx and the euphoric 'Keep On Doing Your Thing' before Sartorial takes proceedings into slightly jazzier territory on B2 and B3.

Review: Hailing from Moscow, Valique started his musical career in mid nineties as an arranger and musician in several electronic live projects, gradually shifting from raw jungle/industrial music to diverse forms of deep house, nu-jazz and funk/soul breaks. As an accomplished vibraphonist and percussionist he has recorded session work on various albums and recently recorded an entire album of classical Russian folk and war songs with nu-jazz/funk twist. Being a fan of the Freestyle label from day one, Valique took it upon himself to create two brand new tracks purposely made with the label in mind. We were so impressed we couldn't say no, making him the first Russian signing to Freestyle! Check the disco infused bumping house of "Taking Your Seat", with the tantalizing horns hammering the track into your subconscious. On the flip "Wine Or Vinegar" is more of the same, with blasting horns tied to the funkiest of basslines and a bumping groove.

Review: Ok, this one is gonna be big! Vangelis early 70s psychedelic folk, rock, jazz gem "Let It Happen" has for over 10 years been an all time classic at the Gamm headquarters. Now its finally been redefined at the Beatfanatic studios with a thumping boogie rhythm, a massive b-line and some seriously spaced out keyboard action. Clocking in at almost 12mins, this is the ultimate Balearic end of the night jam that will go down just as well in clubs as at the beaches in Ibiza. Oh yeah, almost forgot about the flip. Turelli, yet another Beatfanatic alias (phew!), comes through with an Italo inspired disco jam that surely will please fans of the current neo disco revival.

Review: Anyone who spent the early part of this century cutting their DJ teeth in bars up and down the country will be familiar with the AV8 label that Aldo Vanucci pays homage to on "Tambou8.2". The veteran beatsmith fully demonstrates his adeptness at slicing and splicing samples together in a dizzying procession of house party favourites - perfectly poised for that drunken moment in the night when everyone around you is your best friend. Joining this on the A Side is "Do The Funky Duck" which will be familiar to either fans of early 80s disco funk or perhaps more likely A Trak and Van Helden. On the flip thou shalt enjoy a two tone skank reimagination and a think break infused take on KC & The Sunshine Band.

Review: Plymouth's self-proclaimed "number one digger" and one-time maker of high quality bootleg remixes returns to the world of original production with an expansive EP for the ever-reliable Jalepeno stable. There's plenty to enjoy, not least the parping horns and low-slung funk guitars that pepper the EP's two vocal cuts, "You're All Show" (featuring Tru Thoughts regular Kylie Audist) and "Take Me To A Party" (with Brit rap funkateers ASM). The fun doesn't stop there, though. There's some twinkling hip-hop-funk deepness in the shape of the bluesy "What Happened?", and a stroll into funk-laden classic soul territory (the excellent "Alone"). It all adds up to his best release to date, we reckon.
