  1. Eclectic Day (9:20)
  2. Smokin' The Roach (6:08)
  3. The Box (5:51)
Review: Horton Jupiter has been skirting around various cosmically-inclined outfits for many years now, but this release marks his first outright solo venture, and where better for it to blast off from than the celestial circus sideshow of Bahnsteig 23? The record launches in a fit of kosmische bravado, all nagging arpeggios, warbling leads, sustained guitars and a healthy dose of drama. "Eclectic Day" is certainly a fitting title. "Smokin' The Roach" is an equally bombastic affair, although with a chirpier disposition and some Italian-sounding vocals, and then "The Box" finishes the EP off with a grungy trip through bongo beatdowns and fuzz guitar for those who like their psych music with a vintage twist.

  1. Drivetime
  2. Girl, I Know
  3. Curious Lady
Review: As the Well Rounded label heads sadly towards its final release, its Individuals imprint puts out one of its most unique records to date. Despite their name, this anonymous trio make music that combines boogie, synthpop, and the slowed down textures of DJ Screw and his contemporaries. The title track sounds like a cross between FunkinEven and James Blake mashed together and slowed down to 33rpm, while "Girl I Know" channels classic '80s pop with the kind of pitched down vocals so beloved of Tri Angle's Holy Other, and "Curious Lady" brings on a more elegiac soundtrack vibe for the later hours.

  6. Comme Les Autres Font (2:50)
Review: Former masked techno crusader Adam Rivet started the Kess Kill imprint a couple of years ago, to showcase some lesser known talents from the '80s scene in Europe. French producer Guy Clerbois began his musical career by transforming sounds: creating rhythms with scratched vinyl records and altering their playing speeds plus detuning his guitar. In collaboration with Guy Delhalle, he released a pop single in 1983. In the mid eighties, he began what would become the very concept of Vitor Hublot, making shifted reworks of existing ones. Nice N.D.W/ industrial in the tradition of Les Liaisons Dangereuses or D.A.F. All compositions originally issued on the '185 Millions De Francophones Et Moi, Et Moi, Et Moi...' LP via his own Psoria Discs in 1986.

Review: In original cassette form, Untitled by Huerco S was one of those astounding early releases that really brought the Opal Tapes label to wider attention. The NWAQ gone grubby sonics of the three track, 40 minute release were subsequently one of the first few Opal Tapes releases to get a vinyl edition, courtesy of our friends Boomkat and their Boomkat Editions label. If you were one of those who passed over the initial pressing last year and have been filled with an unquenchable sense of regret ever since then good news! A second pressing from Boomkat is here and listening back makes us wish for some all new produce from the New York-based producer. C'mon Huerco!

  1. Ibibio Sound Machine - "Amai Ndiwulule" (5:08)
  2. Machinedrum - "Lewasi" (3:50)
  3. Throwing Shade - "Dream Scene" (3:27)
Review: According to Beating Heart, Hugh Tracey made several thousand field recordings across Sub-Saharan Africa between the 1920s and 1970s. His intention was to 'reveal the beauty and complexity of the music to a world that saw little value in it.' Fast forward to the present day, Tracey's bid to preserve the music of Africa for future generations lives on. Beating Heart has shared the late Tracey's archive at the International Library of African Music (ILAM) with contemporary producers and keeping in line with Tracey's vision, all proceeds will be used to assist people in the areas where the music was originally recorded. London's Throwing Shade, fresh of a great release for Ninja Tune turns in the vivid and polyrhythmic 'Dream Scene", Hotflush's Machinedrum gives us the intense polyrhythmic Sub Saharan trance induction of "Lewasi" while Ibibio Sound Machine gives us the soul-funk boogie of "Amai Ndiwulule".

Review: Colin Newman and Malka Spigel have had a prolific run of form with their Immersion project, a concept that began all the way back in 1994, and one that has always been released via their own Swim label. No need to mention, really, but yes, Newman is the dude from Wire - so pay attention. Aside from the fact that all their material as a duo has been nothing short of incredible and visionary over the years, but this latest 10" is fully representative of their best material, and if you're into mesmerising lo-fi electronic music, then look no further and be quick, because these are pretty limited! "Always The Sea" drops us into an ocean of deep, manipulated strings and tones, a channel which develops beautifully into five warm and cinematic soundscapes for the dreamers. Hot. Red hot.

Review:  Immix Ensemble is led by Australian experimental saxophonist Daniel Thorne (now based in Liverpool) working in collaboration with now renown Bristolian experimental bass merchant Vessel on this collaborative release. Between their two very different musical practices they somehow find an interesting balance. According to Erased Tapes, the release "features one or two instruments, and, thematically, explores a significant invention or discovery that took place at around the same time as the invention and development of these instruments". We particularly enjoyed the way Thorne commandeered the ensemble on first track "What Hath God Wrought" and "Battle Cry" which features some contemplative yet dramatic and restrained passages, all with Vessel's seething electronics beneath.

  3. Ten Years (10:06)
Review: Whatever Makes You Feel Safe is a collaboration between Canadian producer and singer Marie Davidson and Berlin based Ukrainian sound designer Invisible Church. They met in Montreal during Red Bull Music Academy festival and shared the idea of exploring the concept of feeling safe both on a personal level and as a part of society. Quite different from what you'd usually associate with Davidson but still worthy of your attention all the same. Beginning on the A side with "Collage" featuring some chilling drone experiments over textural sound design and field recordings which allow Davidson's haunting vocals to carry the track further into the void. Sounds like a cross between OAKE and Lustmord. Next up "Never Release The Tension" delves further into pitch black territory on this contorted downbeat industrial thriller. Finally on the flip, we've got an epic 10 minutes of haunting esoterica in the form of "Ten Years" and features Theo Parrish on cymbals! The label recommends it as for fans the late Mika Vainio, Black Rain, CTI, and the Bladerunner OST. Pretty on point, if we do say so ourselves!

  4. Animal Transformation (6:20)
Review: Existing at the interzone between Zurich, Berlin and Mexico City, Lustpoderosa serve up their fifth release here courtesy of trio Jack Pattern. Taking its cues from the early sounds of coldwave and industrial, the trio deliver a po-faced slo-mo groove on "Nella Notte", then give us the neon-lit and fishnet clad "Animal Transformation" calling to mind the early sounds of Severed Heads. There are some great remixes too, but our favourite was certainly by Sneaker (Ratlife / Uncanny Valley / Frigio) who delivered a trippy and hypnotic rendition of "Animal Transformation" that gets on a percolator style jack in the vein of Green Velvet and keeps those Jim Morrison like vocals to charming effect.

Review: Sydney's electro-psychedelic-indie outfit, Jagwar Ma, drop two new mixes of their 2013 hit "The Throw" on the Multi Cut label. There's three parts in all, where the first one, Dreems Sounds Of The Universe Part 1, is made up of a delicious blend between acoustic instruments, delicate electronics and wailing vocals; the piano keys riding across those desolate soundscapes with utter class. Parts 2 and 3 enter party mode, with subtle bursts of 303 acid mixing nicely within the original track's poppy nature.

Review: In advance of release, Diagonal and Elon Katz have been particularly mysterious when it comes to the contents of The Human Pet. Instead of the usual press release, they simply emailed journalists a bizarre list of "care instructions" for said mythical companion. Katz, who rose to prominence as part of Streetwalker and White Car, is something of a bombastic, electronic eccentric, and The Human Pet is ostensibly a pop album dragged through several hedges backwards. Expect impassioned, stylized vocals, twisted boogie synths, scattergun electronics, bizarre beats, breakcore style cut-up madness, and crusty special effects. Oh, and discernible nods to EBM, industrial and Autechre.

Review: Following a fine solo EP from Jonas Friedlich, the Molten Moods label returns to type with another compilation style EP featuring a quartet of cuts from their growing roster of artists. Kessel Vale kicks off proceedings with the lightly melodic, becalmed electronic experimentalism of "Voguing Geisha", before Skee Mask unfurls the Autechre-does-deep-dubstep flex of "Fanta Ocean" with a little assistance from label co-founder Jonas Yamer. On the flipside, Konrad Wehrmeister layers drifting, melancholic melodies over heavy sub-bass and skittish electro beats, while Jonas Yehmer joins the dots between spaced-out dub techno and out-of-this-world ambient on "Insgeheim". Impressive stuff, all told.

  1. Anxiety (5:21)
  2. Scatterbrain (4:53)
  3. Data_Loss (6:06)
  4. Data_Ctrl (3:59)
Review: Chris Weeks has been building up the Kingbastard catalogue for a long time now, generally taking a self-reliant approach in the underground electronica scene where CD-r releases reign supreme. He's been a key figure on Ambidextrous since the label launched back in 2008, and now he's committed to wax with a range of crunched up leftfield sonics for the machine-loving crowd. "Anxiety" is a melodic cut with a house-minded structure, but there's a lot of production acrobatics and compositional swerves taking place within this framework. "Scatterbrain" is more overtly out there, tapping up the kind of heavily processed sounds that producers like Paradroid have championed in the past. "Data_Loss" strike a heavy blow somewhere between dubstep and electro, and "Data_Ctrl" ups the tempo for a rabble-rousing exercise in mind-bending machine music.

Review: Bulgarian house wizard KINK is back and, of course, he's all about delivering the shadiest forms of dance floor music humanely possible. The man is a master at twisting and pushing house music to its very limits, something which is obvious from the start of "Soda Caustic", a nutty 4/4 banger boasting a curious new strain of acid at its core. "Synesthesia" barely even forms a groove out of its solitary bleeps and bass buds, whereas "Daddy Acid" takes a little poke at AFX's improbable mishmash of Goa trance and gabber junglism - we love this one. The B-side boasts "The Roots Of Techno", a kinetic array of machine noise and robotic beats, while "Antitune" makes some of Photek's early work seem antiquated by comparison. This EP has it all. Warmly recommended.

Review: Started in 2013, Mollusca Vinyl is a Brooklyn based electronic reocrd label specializing in minimal style, analog laden music. Our folks believe in pushing the vinyl medium as art. This set of compositions has been described as Balearic downtempo with pastoral departures. Written while on several beaches, it suggests the definition of lackadaisical make out music, emoting euphoric post pillow talk feelings-of-the-raw through minimalist synth phrasing, ambient texturing and isolated beats. Artwork by Doroniyam at Azuri Cafe. Mastered by Jason at Transition Mastering UK. Printed at Brooklyn Phono.

  2. Efter Stangning (4:57)
Review: Anton Klint first came to our attention thanks to a handful of EP's that he dropped on Munich's Public Possession label, but while we were already big fans of the imprint's work, it was Klint's singular take on house and disco that attracted us. This latest two-tracker comes via Sweden's IDEAL label, and the producer offers something a little darker and more experimental compared to his previous escapades. "Personalmote" is a fuzzy, broken tune that verges on house but never quite fully rids itself of a tribal, stepping kind of vibe. On the other hand, "Efter Stangning" churns and drives away at a more classic deep house level, but Klint nevertheless injects a noticeable layer of something altogether more exotic. Twisted, dystopian house beats would be the best way to some this up.

  1. Kompozyt, Lee Scratch Perry - "Hidden Force" (3:51)
  2. Kompozyt - "Homesick" (4:44)
Review: Poland-born but now residing in London, sibling duo Kompozyt has pulled off something of a coup by securing the talents of mad-as-a-brush dub legend Lee 'Scratch' Perry to appear on "Hidden Force". His familiar Jamaican drawl naturally comes to the fore, ricocheting above a head-nodding future dub rhythm that should appeal to fans of both dubstep and dub techno as well as full-on dub-heads. Almost as impressive is the slightly more experimental and trippy B-side, "Homesick", where echoing orchestral sweeps and distant trumpet solos bob in and out of a sea of pitched-down dub techno textures. Don't miss out on this one - it really is rather good.

From Russian producer Cyberworm's "Breath Slow" (future garage), Kontext's dub techno epic "Doubling Theory (Meteors)" to the techstep of Melotronics' "Launch Pad" and Diagram's leftfield drum & bass on "Orbital Collapse". These genres are united by a uniform deep sound of the planet. They even released it on vinyl, because they are intent on spreading the music that makes them vibe with other bass lovers the world over.

Review: Cosmic Resonance, the Canadian imprint operated out of Toronto, has been a revelation over the last year, coming through with releases from Hemingway and Raf Reza before discovering the talents of Korea Town Acid, who debuts here with a sublime album by the name of Mahogani Forest. With only six tunes to pick from, KTA has kept it all about quality over quantity, which we absolutely love, especially if the strain of house on offer is as warm and lush as this! From "Tite Bond" to "Mahogani Forest" on the A-side, the sounds are 4/4 and bass-heavy but still grounded in a sort of 'boogie' sensibility that renders the tunes playable to a disco-not-disco audience. There's more jazzed-out vibes on the B-side, with "Virtual Reality" and "Bubble Tease" landing some insanely broken beats to the equation. Large.

Review: Vester Koza has remained quiet as of late but he's back with his singular brand of deep house on his own Maslo imprint. While his previous 12"s were coated in a relatively upbeat and funked-out flavour, the PRISN EP feels darker, more expansive and ethereal, where Koza prefers the use of drones and abstract electronics as a base for his grooves. "Deciveid", for example, takes a broken, hypnotic beat and places it over subtle twists of noise, whereas "Bind_Dream_Service" is slow, jagged and lacking of a 4/4 beat...it's Vester Koza's industrial side coming out to play.
