  1. Similar Familiar (Ruede Hagelstein & Amin Fallaha remix) (7:02)
  2. Warsaw Street (Scuba remix) (8:21)
  3. Loose Life (Julien Bracht remix) (5:53)
  4. Remember (Thom Alt-J remix)) (3:31)
Review: There's been a fair amount of excitable online chatter about moody synthesizer fetishists Lea Porcelain, a duo from Frankfurt whose work sits somewhere between vintage minimal wave and clanking, modular electronica. Here, the pair has allowed a quartet of remixes to make merry with some of their most name-checked tunes. The headline attraction is arguably Scuba's alternately hypnotic, melodious and trippy broken techno take on "Warsaw Street", though Julien Bracht's doom-laden, lo-fi breakbeat interpretation of 2015 track "Loose Life" is arguably even stronger. Those looking for the ultimate in beat-less, wall-of-sound moodiness should check out Thom Alt J's inspired remix of "Remember".

  1. Private Plane (3:58)
  2. International (4:02)
  3. King Of Sham (3:56)
  4. Saving Grace (5:26)
Review: Damn! Dark Entries are on a roll! Their latest reissue is of Scotland's Thomas Leer, an early 80's independent artist who recorded "Private Plane" in his bedroom using an extremely limited set-up...the prototypical '80s experimental kid! The tune is dreary, funky and on the abstract side all at the same time, but our favourite is actually "International" thanks to its wonky groove, driving percussion stabs and bursts of distorted jazz flute. On the B-side there's also "Saving Grace", a more poppy affair in that inimitable 80's Karate Kid flair...highly recommended, a 12" worthy of a reissue.

  3. Orpheus (5:32)
  4. Every Tree & Creature (4:18)
  5. All Blue (4:33)
Review: Second Circle's latest mini-album comes from the previously unheard Giuseppe Leonardi, a "young Viennese musician" whose heady, synthesizer-heavy style is reminiscent of some of the curious obscurities reissued on parent label Music From Memory. While experimental in nature - think skewed combinations of lo-fi analogue keyboards, sparse and dusty drum machine hits and all manner of manipulated voices - each of the five tracks is pleasingly melodious. Combined with a range of left-of-centre influences from the early-to-mid '80s (think new wave ambient, new wave and British post-punk dub), it makes for a heady and arresting collection of tracks that actually gets better with each successive listen.

Cat: LOL 003. Rel: 10 Jan 18
  1. Lolita (2:39)
  2. Keep It Movin' (2:58)
  3. Plot Twist (2:20)
Review: Lolina is Inga Copeland aka London based Russian songstress Alina Astrova, who was formerly part of defunct cult favourite Hype Williams. On these three short tracks she sings out of tune over dirty grime beats on "Lolita" or "Plot Twist" and delivers an electro-infused indie-pop ditty on "Keep It Movin". Like previous records 'Live In Paris' and 'RELAXIN' With Lolina', this has been self-released. Hype Williams were a music and art group best known for consisting of UK-born artist Dean Blunt and collaborated with Copeland between 2007 and 2012 in this self-described 'relay project' which passed between the artists every five years.

  3. Exotic Dirt (Blend 43 dub) (4:59)
  4. Air Dry (6:00)
Review: The latest EP on Sleep D's on-point Butter Sessions imprint comes from another unsung hero of Australia's electronic underground, Low Flung AKA Moortown Records chief Danny Wild. Dreamy, tactile and analogue-rich, we can confirm that "Dribble" is really rather good. Check, for example, the huggable, head-in-the-clouds deep house warmth of "Deep Dribble", and the fluid ambient brilliance of "Shallow Sleep", where hazy field recordings are smothered in slowly shifting electronics. The warm and woozy vibes continue on the flipside, where the gently jaunty dub house/deep house fusion of "Exotic Dirt (Blend 43 Dub)" is followed by the dub-wise IDM trip that is "Air Dry".

  1. Track 1 (5:39)
  2. Track 2 (5:00)
  3. Track 3 (4:55)
  4. Track 4 (3:16)
Review: After 19 years in the game, techno veteran Jens "Lowtec" Kuhn is still going strong. While he's recently been in a nostalgic mood - as reissues of early material prove - Kuhn is still capable of producing fresh, high quality material. There's much to enjoy about this first EP for new Malmo label Blundar, from the loud tape hiss, spooky melodies and weirdo ambient dub intent of "Track 2", to the moody, early Autechre throb of Skam-ish closer "Track 4". Dancefloor-minded thrills come in the shape of hypnotic opener "Track 1" - all unsettling, one-note chords, restless rhythms and distant electronics - and the hard-to-pigeonhole madness of the schizophrenic "Track 3".

  4. Random Coherence (3:35)
  5. Throbbing Pain (5:50)
Review: Next up on Bristol's Bokeh Versions is Japan's Mars89 with his second release. He's a crucial member of the Tokyo's Chopstick Killahz: a self-described 'post tribal DJ unit' lurking on the fringes of the city's grime scene, in addition to being a Noods Radio resident. He presents some more of his contorted UK bass and gqom derivatives from the far east on the End Of The Death EP. Influences of Jersey club, dancehall and grime are evident throughout, from the reverberated rapid-fire toms of "Run To Mall" or the industrial edged beats of "Random Coherence" or "Throbbing Pain" to even more desolate soundscapes as heard on the chilling "Visitor From The Ocean".

  3. Uwalmassa - "Untitled 06" (8:00)
  4. Wahono - "Pakar Gula Gending" (5:49)
Review: The DISKANT crew is back in full motion with this new batch of releases, and we're uber glad to see them back on our charts with their improbable technoid infusions. This time, however, the Durian Brothers take a side step and leave the podium to Marsesura, Uwalmassa and Wahono, three enigmatic figures who all make tripped-out percussive badness for all sorts of electornic aficionados. There's an Eastern tint about each of these 4 tracks, each of them spiraling into a reverie with the help of intricate drum folds, cavernous atmospherics, and the hypnotic glow that belongs to pretty much every Diskant bullet. Excellent.

  1. Live At Berlin Atonal 2016 (part 1) (21:03)
  2. Live At Berlin Atonal 2016 (part 2) (23:50)
Review: Arizona based experimental outfit Marshstepper gave one of the most talked about performances at the 2016 edition of Berlin Atonal, and the festival have issued a live recording on their affiliated label. Band members JS Aurelius and Nick Nappa were joined on the evening by Drew McDowall, Varg and Silent Servant - where the collective executed a confronting performance. Employing Coil influenced industrial soundscapes, drone, dark ambient and even some moments of slow-burning techno - they take you on a powerful journey on each side of the record. Aurelius and Nappa run the underground cassette imprint Ascetic House, between Phoenix, Los Angeles and New York City.

Raindrops (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: DR 002. Rel: 27 Nov 17
  1. Ignore
  2. Steam
  3. Raindrops
  4. That F Sound
Review: Nathan Melja drew some favourable attention with choice outings on Mister Saturday Night, Black Opal and Technicolour, but now he's steering his own label Dream Real as a vessel for his wayward but warm sonics. This second release keeps the psyched out tone of his previous work intact, offering up four jams of illustrious synth work and fractured beats for the adventurous souls out there. "Ignore" is a vaporous cut of stuttering drums and fuzzy chord shapes, while "Steam" sports a more clearly defined rhythmic pulse for the deepest house heads. "Raindrops" cools things down to a downtempo lilt, and then "That F Sound" nudges towards a leftfield techno domain that Melja ably makes his own.
