Review: Coldcut return with the stand-out single from their critically-acclaimed album, "Sound Mirrors". The pioneering duo take Joe South's classic 70s hit "Walk A Mile In My Shoes" and re-work it in the tradition which started with their own "Autumn Leaves" and incorporates Massive Attack's "Unfinished Sympathy" amongst others. And, as usual, Coldcut know how to pick a collaborator. Robert Owens should need no introduction. One of the true legends of house music, his career as a musical innovator (as well as the possessor of an all-time great voice) runs from pioneer days as one half of Fingers Inc in Chicago in the 80s right up to collaborations with Photek and London Elektricity, via any number of classic tunes including "Tears", "I'll Be Your Friend" and "Ordinary Son". The version of the tune included on the single ties the epic nature of Coldcut's production to a skipping, swinging house rhythm and the kind of anthemic build that leaves you exhausted. It's a truly beautiful piece of music, the contrast between the delicacy of Owens' voice and the weight of the orchestration perfectly realised. And that's before you've even reached the mixes. Tiga takes the original, strips out the music and replaces it with technoid pulses and a harder dancefloor rhythm, with the sweetness of Owens' voice cutting through the intensity. Henrik Schwarz (of Berlin-based Sonar Kollektiv) builds the original into a melancholy, jazzy number which still sets the foot tapping. Tom Belton goes straight for the disco-funk hands-in-the-air jugular, before Timo Garcia hardens up the kick for a full-on club odyssey.

Review: Later this summer, Defected will hold their first festival in Croatia, at the site made famous by the (now defunct) Garden Festival. To celebrate, they've put together this three-disc mix album. Kai Alice takes charge of disc one, joining the dots between deep, soulful and sun-kissed cuts from the likes of Chez Damier, Romanthony, Big Strick and Kerri Chandler. Noted party-starters Crookers take a different tack on the second disc, contrasting chunky deep house cuts with bumpin' club anthems, hip-house, and bass-heavy thumpers. The final disc comes from rising star Dario D'Attis, who gets busy with a wide selection of acapellas, dubs, drum tracks to provide a fittingly tech house-focused late night finish.

Review: Under the Calibre alias, Dom Martin has never been afraid to supplement his main drum & bass work with tracks that explore different musical styles. He's gone one step further on this album for Craig Richards' label, the Nothing Special. Stripped of all jungle intent, Grow impressively shuffles between jazzy future garage, hazy post-dubstep soundscapes, warm, breakbeat-driven grooves (the early Blu Mar Ten style bliss of "Thunder Fog"), throbbing futurist dub (the brilliant "Over The Top"), and, perhaps most surprisingly for those keen on D&B, four-to-the-floor deep house (the clandestine "Mention"). The fact that it's all rather good confirms what many in D&B already knew: that Martin is a hugely talented producer.

Review: During the late 1980s and 1990s, few Italian producers built up quite as strong a catalogue of dreamy, tactile and sun-kissed deep house, ambient and downtempo tracks as Don Carlos. As this fine compilation proves, the tracks he never bothered releasing at the time were equally as good. Disc one focuses on completely unreleased fare (including a quite different arrangement of his greatest hit, the sax-laden dream house anthem "Alone"), offering up the kind of sparkling, life-affirming goodness that instantly evokes imagined memories of dancing on a beach at dawn. Disc two is more focused on rare and hard-to-find alternative mixes, including fine revisions of classic cuts such as "Re-Mida", "Aqua" and "Paranoia". Simply essential!

As if responding to previous snubs, he lays down a killer selection in his own inimitable, all-action style. While the track list is impeccable - a fist-pumping mixture of boompty beats, jazzy sax licks and bowel-bothering basslines from the likes of Justin Long, Cajmere, DJ Sneak and Iz & Diz - perhaps the most impressive thing about the mix is its spontaneous, off-the-cuff feel. While many commercially released mixes can feel sterile and overproduced, the live, one-take approach Carter utilizes here makes Fabric 59 a genuinely exciting and entertaining listen.

Review: This summer marks the 250th party thrown by Mister Saturday Night DJ duo Justin Carter and Eamon Harkin. They think that's an occasion worth celebrating, so have put together this red-hot mix CD. It's heavy on tracks that have become anthems at their regular New York shindigs - think Justin Van Der Volgen's classic rework of Soft Rocks' "Talking Jungle", Kerrier District's brilliant "Let's Dance & Freak", Dennis Ferrer's "The Red Room", Alden Tyrell's intense jack-track "All We Need" and the duo's preferred end-of-night anthem, Mystic Pleasure's "Back Door (Getting Down)" - but also includes some recent finds and lesser-known favourites. These include a thoroughly obscure Brooklyn disco gem from Bourbon & Maxx and the throbbing sleaziness of HVCK's "Domino".

Review: According to Catz 'N' Dogs, their new album "Friendship" was inspired by the role friends, collaborators and partners have played in their runaway success. There's certainly a warm, fuzzy and loved-up feel throughout, with the pair making great use of some top-drawer guest vocalists and collaborators (see James Yuill's fine vocals on deep breakbeat-pop jam "There", the deep house/two-step garage fusion of Zensofly and Maxville hook-up "Wave" and the sun-kissed indie-dance shimmer of WhoMadeWho collaboration "Never Go Down"). Intriguingly, there are just as many sofa-bound sound diversions (skewed hip-hop, downtempo pop and so on) as riotous dancefloor excursions (the piano-happy "New Love" being the standout), making for an accessible and hugely entertaining set that rewards repeat listens.

Review: Polish duo Catz N Dogz have a long history of involvement with Get Physical, so it makes sense that they've been chosen to mix the latest instalment of the long running Body Language series. Their 21-track journey mixes recent faves (Eats Everything, Soul Clap, Justin Martin) and contemporary deep house cuts with classic tech-house jams, long forgotten remixes (Atjazz's excellent version of Rhythm Plate's early 200s jam "Lean") and fashionable US garage revivalism (their own version of Zack Toms' Parade's "Get Up Everybody"). There's even the odd classic (Schtrax's excellent "Mispent Youth") thrown in for good measure. As a result, Body Language 12 is a versatile and enjoyable mix.

Review: Berlin venue Watergate have pulled of a bit of a coup for the fifteenth edition of their popular mix series, persuading New Jersey legend Kerri Chandler to drop his first DJ mix CD since 2008. Much has changed since then, with Chandler now pushing a style that fuses tech-tinged European deep house with his usual swinging US flavour. As a result, Watergate 15 may raise a few eyebrows in the Southport community, but should endear him to a while new audience. It's certainly a smooth and well thought-out mix, effortlessly segueing between tunes from the likes of Detroit Swindle, Jonny D, Huxley and No Artificial Colors. There's even a Jamie Jones remix present, which is definitely something of a surprise.

Review: After a decade of swirling deep house and understated jazz flourishes, London duo Chaos In The CBD finally drop their debut full-length, A Deeper Life, via their own In Dust We Trust imprint. The 14-tracker stretches their signature dee,p cocktail party effected house palette into new terrain: live instrumentation, vocal guests, and a mellow, tactile depth, now owing as much to 90s Balearic as it does to smoky London basements. Lead single 'Love Language', with Nathan Haines on sax, strikes an effortless tone: wistful, warm, and unhurried. Guests include Josh Milan, Lee Pearson Jr., Novelist and Stephanie Cooke, but the LP is less about marquee names than a slow, wide glow: sun-kissed nostalgia cut with club heft. It no less channels their New Zealand roots (idyllic beaches, waterfalls, quiet mornings) into a drifting house sound, playful and dour in equal parts.

Review: The temple of electronic, fabric releases their latest 'Presents' series after a home run with the now highly demanded TSHA - this time with Liverpudlian duo Chaos in the CBD. The first time almost half of the music is available digitally, from sought-after vinyl to pulling from a DAT tape, compiling it was a musical expedition and fabric's most challenging licensing project to date. Creating a tunnel between 1990 to 2007, the mix is a timeless listen, condensing the ebbs, flows, gear changes and the feelings that surface during an all-night set experience in 80 mins. Set to stand the test of time, it will surely be appreciated by older heads of the rave just as much as the new generation cutting their teeth on dance music. The highlight-heavy compilation also shows off personal artwork shot at the Egyptian Pyramids. A special place in the duo's lives and a nod to Louis Armstrong, adding an extra layer of sentimentality to this stand out project. A launch party is planned the day after release on April 1st at fabric with Fred P, DJ Qu and more - be there or be square.
