The 39 Orbits pair of Nick Annies and Twink put out only two releases and they were back in 1993. In the years since though, they have become real digger's delights that now fetch high prices on the second-hand market if and when copies come up. But not anymore - Cosmic Soup has assembled this welcome 180g 12" which features tracks from those original records as well as one previously unreleased cut. 'Mercury' is pure dreamy post-rave prog house, as is the slightly more direct 'Outer Limits.' 'After Life' is high-speed house with lush synth work and 'Orbit's Theme' gets more deep and inwardly reflective.

Review: NY breakbeat craftsman 88 Katanas gets explorative on Silent Force with four outstanding jungle adventures. The brilliantly titled 'The Standard Of The Archipelago' ignites the EP with a brisk drumfunk type of flavour that's comparable to Seba. From there we move inland to brutalist terrains... 'Radiant Energy' is a halftime march through thick swamps and woodland, and 'Bit Rot' takes us onto elevated fields where the air is fresher but the ground is very slippery underfoot. 'Subconscious Emotions', meanwhile, takes us back to a much calmer shore where a good looking ship awaits for voyage home.

Muzik Recordings is a four-track collection that comes years after the tragic passing of Panayi so serves as a poignant tribute from his close friends and family. Honouring Andy's legacy, the release captures the duo's innovative electronic spirit and is both a celebration of their work and a touching farewell. Musically 'Street Renegade' is a lithe breakbeat sound, 'Upton Park Breaks' is more dark and textured and 'Electro Boogie' is just that while 'Reckless' closes on a more spaced out and cosmic tip.

Review: Planet Orange Records' fifth release is a four-tracker from the legendary minds behind Alien Recordings, aka A2 and Stopouts, who take one side each. From the opening moments, the Beyonders EP weaves a thread between the halcyon days of tech and minimal from the 90s but with forward-thinking energy. A²'s 'Glider' is a happy, piano-laced celebration to start with ,then 'Let's Get It Together' cuts loose with lithe pads and more mid-tempo drums. Stopouts steep up for the flip and soon melts the mind with some tightly woven acid and cosmic tech on 'Sin City' and 'Kartwheel' then brings a more freewheeling and loopy groove with some neon colours dripping down its face.

Mother Tongue have dug it out the archives and enlisted some key names to offer up reworks and reconstructions, with Azymuth's Alex Malheiros and Daniel Maunick going first. They offer vocal and instrumental versions with life-affirming jazz Rhodes and cool, seductive rhythm sections that take you into the cosmos. Review: Four big, booming , bass heavy tracks from Swiss production and DJ duo Atrice that stand astride several genre definitions from dubstep to techno and electro. The pair pride themselves on their sound design and it certainly lends a subtle but perceptible air to the hair raising frequencies flying around on the likes of 'Backrooms' and 'Pipe Dreams', the two most obvious contenders for the dubstep tag. 'Chamber Of Mazarbul' and the more electronica-slanted 'Nulspace' are less conventional - at least by general standards if not the wonderfully wayward 'rules' of the eternally renegade Ilian Tape label - but equally thunderous and well executed.

Review: Plenty of neologistic fun can be had with the work "break", but we must admit that "breakflow" is a new one on us. Lisboa produtor b0n impresses such sonic and titular genii with a new, green-goo-hued four-track EP on Portgal's fantastical Magic Carpet label, spanning clean future progressive and garage-acid tempos. The title track and 'Sasha Palomal' only tease the unortho-breaks with tricky garage beats and straighter but admittedly still formative breaksteps; it's only by the point of the B-siders 'Positive Morph' and 'Fractures' that any such fluvial breakbeat is properly put back together and course-corrected. Be warned, the latter track moves through the nicely rare variants of freestyle and "electrance"; careful not to dance yourself to breakdown.

Review: What can be said about this timeless banger that hasn't been said before? From the iconic throbs of acid to the delirious string hook, the menacing intonation of "ecstasy" to the eerie plastic strings, this is as seminal as a rave track can get. While many out there will no doubt have this jam tucked away on any number of techno compilations or cramped up on one of the original single issues, "Energy Flash" is a track more than worthy of its own luxuriant single-sided release, and in doing such a release so many years on R&S are making a powerful statement.

Review: An international EP comp from Positivesource, the four tracks contained on this monstrous hard trance compendium are like sonic wake-up slaps. '8am In Salford' by Blasha and Allatt, while not elucidating where in Salford they're alluding to, certainly conjures all sorts of images of famous rave venue The White Hotel, with its alternating strobe lights and menacing size. The production on every track here is massive, each one emphasizing its kicks and percussion before weaving in additional melodic layers. Spekki Webu's 'Elavation' is the best techno tune we've heard in a while too; it's not often you hear such a well-rounded unity of sounds glued so tightly together.

Review: Keeping firm to the now well-trodden "Scientist meets" formula, this release through Convent once again hears Joseph Alpern aka. J Gabriel absorb the dubbing wiles of Hopeton Brown into his own minimal techno laboratory. 'Fly Again' follows up the first Scientist collab 'Too Far Gone' from 2023 with yet another red snapper, and comes backed by heated reworks from Steve O'Sullivan and Bluetrain, each of whose generosities know few bounds (they offer two and three remixes each!).

Review: Some serious house action going on here with the legendary deep house pioneer Kerri Chandler linking up with Dennis Quin and Troy Denari for their own unique take on the 1998 house classic 'You're In My System'. The original has been a key part of many of the best DJs' record bags for decades and now it gets a contemporary twist. Review: Inaugurating Crystalgrooves is Berlin fixture Cinthie: a long standing figure in the underground electronic music scene of her hometown, resident at the infamous Watergate club, plus being the founder of top labels such as Beste Modus, we_r_house and Unison Wax with Diego Krause. She gets the new project off to an explosive start with these three raw house cuts. The A side features the bouncy and uplifting classic house vibe of "Together" which has an overly familiar hook to it and sure to work on the dancefloor any time. On the flip, she gets into some funked-up and discofied loops in the vein of DJ Sneak on the track "Ada Lovelace" while the moody heads-down feel of "No Need To Worry" is a perfect backroom dub if we've ever heard one.

Review: Techno doesn't come much more pure and effective than when it is served up by the Planet Rhythm label. At the helm of this fresh serving is Creznight. He goes straight in at the deep end with the muscular drum funk and tightly lopped vocal fragments of 'With You' which soon get you banging the walls. 'March on Mars' is just as direct but funky with warm and punchy kicks triggering percussive rolls and smeared synths. 'Backstab' shows no let up in the drum pressure but does have a more deft melodic touch that allows in some light and 'Instinct' shuts down with more well designed loops, a hint of 90s minimalism and a taught bassline that keeps things moving at pace.

Review: The Fruit Medley series has been hella juicy so far so we're glad another edition is ripe and ready for picking to kick off the label's 2025 season. This one features all newcomers starting with Cromie's 'Timereite', a chubby and clubby tech pumper with full throttle rhythms. Review: Nicola Cruz lands on Cabaret with the 'Cryptic Nature' EP. Beyond consistently high-quality, compelling productions, it's usually hard to predict what the talented Ecuadorian producer will deliver i but he does his energetic Japanese label hosts proud with this stirring selection. The broken rhythms, trippy vocals and paranoid synths of the title track start things off on a strong footing, before the strobe-lit thrust of 'Elementals' powers ahead with swung snares and crisp hats. The four-to-the-floor drive continues into the wigged-out psychedelia of 'Kojix', while the jagged drums of 'Desire Scan' and the otherworldly intensity of 'Photosphere' round off a mighty fine, entirely floor-focused set.

It's seductive stuff from the off with the opener 'In Your Hood' layers up mind-melting synth sequences with sleek beats. "Let's Play' is a more bulky cut with slamming drums and subtle percussive details then 'My Next Turn' pairs things back to rubbery drum loops and dubby chords that sound all gooey and gloopy. 'Glitch My Funk' picks things up with more taught kick drums that compel you to dance as the delicate cosmic vibes permeate the groove. Shoal is first to step up and remixes 'Kaleidoskop' into a deep, heavy mind melter with spangled leads taking you down the rabbit hole. Review: Karol Mozgawa is Polish techno talent Deas, and he brings his class to Planet Rhythm here, although it's Ferdinger remix of 'Dissociation' which gets things underway. It's a speedy and supple techno pile-driver with euphoric chords sure to elevate the 'floor. '8 AM' is much more mechanical and industrial with unrelenting drums and textured hooks peeling off the beats. 'Dissociation' in original form is a classic bit of soulful hi-tek Motor City goodness and 'Error' closes with some raved up synth madness and super-sized hi hats.

Review: Not to be confused with the heavy Dutch electro hero of the same name (he of Klakson Records fame), Dexter was the early-to-mid 2000s alias of UK tech-house producer Matt Royall. Sushitech Records recently released a retrospective of his work, Past Moves, and now German label Repeat has decided to reissue 2004's Size Counts EP. A-side 'Break It Down' is deep, druggy, chuggy and pleasingly off-kilter, with delay-laden spoken word snippets and echoing hand percussion hits rising above a driving bassline and hypnotic, locked-in drums. The pace and intensity increases on flipside 'Once Again', a kind of Hipp-E & Halo style West Coast tech-house workout rich in trippy female vocal snippets, ghostly chords and dubby bass.

Though it's a fresh collaboration, 'When We Dance (Move Your Feet)' has the airs of a classic, informed by joint decades in the game. An unusually high dose of swing parlays a profound propulsion on the matinee special 'Galactic Soul Mix' by Spinna, laden throughout by a rousing narration by Clark himself. The track's electric piano is EQed to flashing, premium glossy heaven; this is the kind of effort we look out for in our house music: no sound cliched, all sounds clinched.

Review: Something ineluctable about the year 1999 haunts music. It's as though the cusp of the millennium wrought a flurry of pre-terror romance, that last slice of postwar epochal gold reaching an ecstatic, elliptical peak before the crossing of a limp, millenarian threshold. Ernesto's second EP for French label Sour leaves us as loosened and open as any such nostalgic rendezvous could, assuming you were born before the fated date. Over brilliants like 'Morning Sweat' and 'Hardware Boogie', the producer joins the likes of Moop Jr. and Lekind in crafting timbral and sophisticated tactiles, chunked analogue basses and filter-designed keys, deepening and advancing our taste in Gay Paree sensuality.

Review: One of the joys of Italian dance music in the pre-house era was the sheer volume of records made by prolific producers but fronted by session singers and female vocalists plucked from obscurity. Eva's 1987 workout 'Take Me... Mr Love' is a fantastic example. Produced by frequent studio partners Mario Percalli and Piero Fidelfatti, the track combines the jaunty, synth-powered cheeriness of earlier Italo-disco workouts (most notably Kasso's 'Walkman') with the locked-in propulsion of early house music, Nile Rodgers inspired guitar licks and a memorable lead vocal from an uncredited vocalist (who, we assume, is called Eva). The superior 'long mix' and original instrumental come accompanied by a fresh rework by Luca Dell'Orso that turns it into a throbbing, stripped-back Italo-disco number of the sort made in 1983 and '84.

Review: Back in the early-to-mid 2000s, Canadian house stalwart Julius Papp released a series of hush-hush rework and remix EPs under the Excursions alias. Some of those - including the 2003 edition of this release - have subsequently become in-demand items online. Listening back, it's easy to hear why. A-side 'Woah, Nelly (Slap Edit)' re-invents Nelly pop classic 'Hot in Here' as a rolling and squelchy slab of party-starting deep house funkiness that's guaranteed to get dancefloors moving. Over on the flip, we get takes on two Sade cuts: the San Francisco deep house style gorgeousness of 'Sade 2003' (a rework of 'Somebody Already Broke My Heart') and the more punchy, energetic 'Sade 2000' (a fine revision of Diamond Life track 'I Will Be Your Friend' which was originally released on an earlier Excursions 12-inch).

Review: Given that Defected's multi-arist EP series was designed as a way for vinyl DJs to get hold of some of the imrpint's biggest digital download hits, you'll be unsurprised to learn that volume nine contains some seriously sizable material. Riva Starr kicks things off with a remix of Dennis Ferrer classic "Hey! Hey!" that turns the track into a Moroder style electro-disco throb-job, before Ferreck Dawn delivers some big room vocal house pleasure. Review: Forest Drive West makes the most intricate sounds in techno if you ask us. There is a meticulous craft in everything he does, but never at the expense of an underlying groove and alluring mood. Masking is his latest EP and the title cut opens with dirty, swampy bass and percolating drum funk. 'Ziggurat' slows down but has real creepiness in the gurgling low end and insistent loops up top. 'Ruins' is a steppy broken beat with more ghoulish sounds swarming around the mix and 'Mobius' shuts down with deft loops that float above sustained chords and keep you on edge.

This fifth transmission is another doozy that collects four different artists who all operate on the spaced out end of the electronic house and minimal spectrum. The Former Landlords kick off with breezy and balmy 90s tech house style sounds on 'Council Pop' then Session 4000 go 'Off' with plenty of sci-fi pads and clipped, kinetic drum programming as well as some playful vocal samples. It continues a purple patch of late that includes his remix work on Nate Nubia's 'Dracula and Frankenstein' and his trilogy on Elypsia Records. The title cut 'Neon Skies' opens with lush synths arp shimmering over crispy, punchy electro drum programming. 'Imagination' has a dubbed-out low end and kinetic kicks with smeared synth lines and intimate vocals bringing some seduction to the sounds. 'Binary Dreams' gets more raw and ragged with a reverberating bassline full of texture and more eerie synth designs up top that keep you on edge. 'How Far' brings a cultured EP to a close with more classy rhythms.

Review: Argentinian hotshot, Juaan, lands on Art Of Dark with his debut release on the label, holding to the ominous position, "man has reason to fear". Over five tried and tested dancefloor cuts, this is one of those EPs that marks and projects a foreboding sense-state in the listener. Of course, to dance is to be, in a sense, "unsettled". Inauspicious long-release 909s and indecipherably tubed vocals (heard on 'El Primer Dia Del Resto De Mi Vida') account for a barely held-together but turbulent future, in which music is moribund and bands don't play no more.

Review: A little slice of rock history for RSD 2025, taken from the encore from US indie faves The Killers' encore at New York's Madison Square Garden on October 1, 2022, when a certain Mr Springsteen joined them to Boss proceedings. We get versions of two of Springsteen's calling cards - 'Badlands' from his Darkness on the Edge of Town album, often cited as a proto-punk classic - and the ubiquitous 'Born To Run', with The Killers' raucous 'Dustland', seemingly heading up and up in intensity without ever quite hitting the ceiling, as the meat in the musical sandwich. The clear parallels between both acts are laid bare, as is the spontaneity and excitement of a true one off moment.

Review: Neo-rave underdog Klute returns to Okbron Records for an incredible new white label, 'Peace & Love / Feel The Fire', bottling the essence of breakbeat hardcore just in the way it was best pulled off in the 90s and 00s. Nay, few traces remain of this record's making in the contemporary 20s; since both of these tracks have been laid to vinyl only, they bear that distinctive toppy scratchiness to which only a certain contingent of retroistic rave tunes can lay claim. But whether they were made now or then is really no matter, since both tracks are sublime objet d'arts in their own rights: 'Peace & Love' is the ambient lilter laid to breaks, sounding like a braindance-era chillout room number set to a counter-intuitively, corrosively party-crashing breakbeat judder, and 'Feel The Fire' is comparatively undersea, bringing to the music those muted bass licks and occipital-frontal synth reliefs all too known to that rare subsection of breaks known as dolphin jungle.

Review: It almost seems redundant, writing something about the latest fabric Originals release. If you could think of a more enticing double-header for fans of bass, Leftfield techno, and UK-hued alternative electronic music then we want to hear it, with both producers here moving well beyond cult status and into the world of households names in homes well beyond their original audiences. And yet, remarkably, neither have strayed too far from where they initially set stalls. Hyperdub boss Kode 9 proves this first, with the sightly dizzying 'Infirmary'. Born from a combination of loose, open, galloping UKF and organic techno, with its foundations rooted in footwork, it's a bounding high-energy body mover that refuses to quit. Flip it and find Burial edging closer to 'dance music' than many might be used to, although it's a deep, moody interpretation packed with the spellbinding vocal flourishes of a mutant garage and suppressed, fidgety drums so subtle they're close to background noise.

Review: Frankfurt's Kuyateh beams into the Minibarian universe with a playful but impactful new EP that brims with cosmic charm. The tunes here are all rooted in wobbly basslines and mischievous minimal grooves and come with a humid late-night funk that is equal parts interstellar and intimate. This welcome debut on Minibar fits in with the label's off-kilter, soulful minimal sound and starts with the chunky, marching drums of 'Crosstown' then takes in the mode bubbly 'Cloudwalking' which is underpinned with a meaning low end and 'Consistency' then brings more celestial melody and 'Terazza' works up a nice shuffling groove with plenty of swagger.

Review: Very few of the OG pioneers hit in the way Lemon D does. Driven by a powerful sense of groove and unhurried vibe, there's a coolness to Lemon's tracks even when he's hitting you with dynamics that could melt most of your internal organs. These four cuts are great examples; from the dubby jungle washes of opener 'Danger' to the woozy, trippy shimmers of the emotional climax 'Hi Tech Souls' by way of the sexy soul vibes of 'Come Down', this is Lemon reminding us of how heavy his world is. As for the title track, you don't call a tune 'All Junglists' without making sure it resonates with all of us. Wallop.

Review: M.A.N.D.Y and Booka Shade's creative collaboration brought us some of the most inspired tech-house and off-kilter house anthems of the noughties, not least 'Body Language' and 'O Superman', a Laurie Anderson-sampling number that was one of the most recognisable club cuts of 2008. Here it gets a fresh vinyl pressing, with the German outfit accompanying a freshly remastered take on their original mix (A1) with various old and new reworks. The fresh Man Power revision (A2) is the standout - a slow build delight that sees the long-serving Geordie producer reach for boisterous jazz-house breaks, raw TB-303 trickery, weighty bass and tidy tech-house stabs. The EP also boasts SIS's 2020 deep tech-house rub and Robag Wruhme's brilliant 2008 minimal techno re-wire, which remains one of the German's most impactful and off-kilter revisions.

Review: The latest on Ilian Tape's ITX Series is this fresh dub haywiring from UK producer Mantra, one half of the UK label and events series Rupture. Following a superbly lo-fi, blue-tinted deep dubstep and garage mix offered to the label less than a year ago, she here returns to the fore with four fantastic new ones tailored for both systems and system heads. Highlights among the bunch include the dizzying, breaksy loss of sonic motor control that is 'Shackout' and the nighttimey, post-dark-garage 4x4 hardcore number 'Stomping Ground'. Closer 'Burn & Heal' rounds the whole thing out on a maximally intense jump-up jungle mastication.

To kick things off, up step Mariche and Gutt for a mix of solo cuts and collabs. 'Autogroove' gets things underway with tight and turbo-powered tech, which ADR remixes into a deeper sound. Gutt's 'Your Mind' is taught and bouncy tech with wispy cosmic synths and then the pair come together for 'Phone Call', which is a standout cut with playful dial tones and rugged low ends all packed up in club-ready beats.

Review: Another hailed gem of the Italo disco underground resurfaces, as 'Another Love' by Marylinlove makes its return on vinyl. Originally released on the adventurous Sensation Records - a sub-label of Milan's Disco Magic that championed bolder, less commercial cuts - this Bruno Mosti-produced track has inspired National Treasure-scale searches, perhaps owing to the mysterious sensibility of the front persona, Marylin. As is often the case with Italo disco studio projects backed by mastermind producer-puppeteers (see Sally Shapiro), there is no publicly available information about Marylinlove's identity or any subsequent musical endeavor of hers out there, which only adds to the charm of this fluttery, flamboyant, recherche equity stake in synth-Talo.

Review: Groovin Italy are the foremost label in our ranks to set their sights upon digging up and refining the very best sonic gemstones out there. Said blood diamond seam is the mythical yet plentiful vein known as deep house; here our local artisanal miners revitalise the precious contribs that especially once made splendid the faded gods of Italo house. From Italian DJ and producer Massimino Lippoli, a key figure in Italy's early house and progressive scene, to MCJ & Sima, Italian house duo, and Sima, who doubled up as vocalist and productive powerhouse, every track here is unerathed in mostly pre-polished, with the end jewellers over at Groovin needing very little work to do. David Syon's 'Swinground' closes things on a naive, part misshapen maccle, with what sound like hand-programmed brasses and pogo-synths played in above a twitchy but happy groove.
