Review: Michigan artist John Beltran has had a long and winding career that has seen him put out shimmering ambient electronics, organic techno and also find some of his tracks used on high-profile HBO TV shows. Aesthete is his latest offering and once again it pairs the synthetic with the natural in beautiful ways. His melodies are bright and beautiful, his drums float in mid-air and the overall mood of his music is painfully melancholic. This album marks the American's debut on the Furthur Electronix label and a fine one it is too.

Review: Let the sunshine in- John Beltran is back to Brasil for Back To Bahia Vol. 2. Similar to his last foray on MotorCity Wine Recordings Beltran has assembled an all-star cast of characters including John Arnold, Jeremy Ellis, James Simonson, and Kiko Navarro to deliver a slice of bright jazzy deep house heaven. Kiko Navarro's "Motor City Jazz Remix" starts the release with driving live drums and percussion for discerning dance floors. On the flip John's original mix keeps the energy moving, before going to the brilliant Sol Set Collective Rework which blends live energy with driving production for those special dance floor moments. Pressed loud to high quality 12" vinyl in Detroit.

Going Home EP (reissue)
Going Home EP (reissue) (red marbled vinyl 12" limited to 150 copies)
Cat: BTL 006C. Rel: 22 Apr 21
Techno
  1. Placid Angles (6:31)
  2. Detroit Moments (1:52)
  3. Going Home (5:57)
Review: Since launching in early 2020, archival techno specialists Back to Life has reissued some genuine gems from the likes of Ron Trent and Chez Damier, Bam Bam, G-Man and Leo Anibaldi. Their latest missive comes courtesy of the effervescent John Beltran and his lesser-known Nostalgic project. What we get is fully remastered versions of a trio of tracks from 2006's Going Home EP. On the A-side you'll find the original EP's standout cut, 'Placid Angles', a deliciously dreamy chunk of house-tempo Motor City techno rich in undulating analogue bass, sunny chords and intergalactic melodies. It's backed on side B by short IDM number 'Detroit Movements' and 'Going Home', a superbly emotive, atmospheric and immersive sci-fi techno number that's as blissful and positive as they come.

  3. Sons Of Melancholia - "For Val"
  4. John Beltran - "2093"

  9. A2B2C2 - "Stereometry"
Review: John Beltran has curated two compilations for Delsin called Music For Machines and part two sees the American artist dig deep once again. A fathoming and soulful "Waterfall Winds" opens this second instalment and sets a cool, effervescent tone for what's to come; a collection of lo-fi synths, crackling, motionless field recordings, emotive ambiences, Wolfgang Voigt-like electro-classicalisms and Steve Reich influences. Beltran's own production "2093" is new age and spacey, and given the right context is truly an overwhelming piece of music.
