Bumpin' Soul EP
Cat: WD 53. Rel: 16 Aug 17

Disco/Nu-Disco
Alkalino - "Body & Soul" (6:35)
Love Drop - "Pull Up" (7:23)
Terrence Pearce - "Ushukela" (5:58)
Alex Zuiev - "Afro Magic" (6:31)
Review: There's no complex concept behind the latest four-track EP from the reliable Whiskey Disco camp, just a quartet of killer re-edits crying out for peak-time plays. Highlights wise, we're particularly enjoying the hard-spun Afro-disco grooves and well-placed dub delays of Alex Zuiev's "Afro Magic", though Alkalino's quirky opener - a thrillingly dubbed-out take on a tongue-in-cheek, left-of-centre disco treat - is also superb. Elsewhere, Love Drop sticks heavy new house beats underneath a stone cold classic (listen to the clips and you'll be able to identify the source material in seconds), while Terrence Pearce crafts a space-disco epic out of undulating Afro-disco grooves, bleeping synth melodies and some seriously cosmic effects.

Andy Ash - "You've Been Found" (6:46)
Vincenzo De Bull & Halve Soul - "Cherry Pie" (7:34)
Rabo & Snob - "Darling" (7:15)
JP Source - "Rollergirl Return" (7:04)
Review: Whisky Disco invite a trio of fresh faces to their ever-growing talent troupe for the Disco Darling EP. Andy Ash takes the lead with a loopy, strutting slice of sample-laced house that wouldn't go amiss in a Mark Farina set while Vincenzo De Bull & Halve Soul lower the tempo, invite us on a Balearic picnic and insist we gobble up huge chunks of Sade's "Cherry Pie". Deeper into the EP we find firm label friends Rabo & Snob laying down a velvet bed of Rhodes and vocal harmonies before the final label newcomer JP Source plays a slo-mo game of sample patty-cake with loopy disco mischief.

Disco Inn
Undercover Lover
Kaffibarinn
Review: Swiftly becoming one of Whiskey Disco's most consistent contributors, Icelander-in-Oslo BG Baarregaard gets busy with three slick, slim-line electro boogie jams suitable for any discerning dancefloor. From the moment those crisp guitar plucks shimmer and ripple across "Disco Inn" you know you're in for a treat. "Undercover Lover" digs deeper with an electro boogie groove while "Kaffibarinn" steps up with an Italo dynamic that's just as future-focused as it is heritage rooted. Each one laced in BG's now trademark P-funk bass, there's more than enough room in Baarregaard's inn to accommodate us all winter.

BG Baarregaard - "Astargardurinn (Endurged)" (6:34)
Closed Paradise - "Breakin' Down" (6:31)
Closed Paradise - "Wolf Sisters" (7:08)
Review: Heavyweight sunnyside nostalgia from Whiskey Disco faces old and new. Icelandic BG does what he does best and work a sample until it's looped so well you could listen to it for days on end. The highlight of his couplet being the sweet subtly filtered take on Passion's "Don't Stop My Love" on "Astarjatning". Closed Paradise takes us much deeper into the night with the sexier, groove-focused "Breakin' Down" while "Wolf Sisters" closes the show on a reflective, slo-mo minor key note. All sides of disco - old and new - covered right here. Beautiful.

Grapevine (Lipelis Love The Stabs remix)
Highest Mountain
Revolution In Mordor
Can't Get Enough
Review: This twelve inch apparently originated from a chance meeting between Whisky Disco boss Sleazy McQueen and the Russian artist known simply as Beard Dust whilst the label impresario was deep beneath the Iron Curtin. Whilst titles such as "Grapevine" and "Highest Mountain" offer little in the way of mystery there is at least a certain uniqueness to the way Beard In Dust presents the former as a stab heavy house number and the latter as a low slung boogie gem. Elsewhere "Revolution in Morder" is all out cosmic disco bliss whilst "Can't Get Enough" adopts a soft funk rock approaching with the most welcoming of vocal hooks.

I Know You Care (5:28)
Come Inside (6:58)
How High? (5:14)
Watch Your Step (6:40)
Review: Amsterdam-based DJ/producer Olivier Boogie has been creating high-class disco and boogie re-edits for years, though it's only in the last 12 months that he's really had a chance to showcase his wares to a wider audience. Here, he delivers his second 12" for Whiskey Disco, following tasty outings on Phat Elephant and Hot Digits. As usual, his reworks get just the right balance between house style loopiness and the more reverential re-works of countryman Mr Mendel. That loopy feel is particularly evident on the sweet disco-soul shuffle of "I Know You Care", while the brilliant "Come Inside" gives a storming, upbeat disco number a colossal boot up the backside. Flip for the snaking sax lines, warm grooves and vibraphone solos of "How High", and the horn-totin', extra-percussive disco-funk deepness of "Watch Your Step".

Review: Proof that edit culture is truly 24/7, Team Whiskey Disco unleash a tasty trio of disco funk cuts that will ensure a full table around the clock... "Try My Love" is the meatiest breakfast you'll ever enjoy, all loopy and full bodied. For lunch "Miracles" will be cooked up using the Jackson Sisters' secret soul recipe and garnished with modern production spices. Finally, for dinner, we'll be tucking into "Tonight". A dubbed spacious twist on the Narada Michael Walden classic, it's the perfect sustenance for a full day of dancing. Yummy.

Review: Will Buck makes his bow on Whiskey Disco after appearing on sister label Lovedancing (with PRTMNTO) on the Soul Sides EP ?last year. Buck is in fine form again on this new offering, opening with the infectious groove of "21212" (listen out for a familiar hook that has been respliced to perfection) - topped with a killer brass section, too! Elsewhere on the EP, move to the sexy late-night deep house of "Touch Down", sultry vocal disco on "Make Your Move" and the aptly titled after-hours shuffle of "Harmony (6AM Mix)", reworked by label head honcho Sleazy McQueen himself.

La Bouteille (6:34)
Under Your Command (6:38)
Fairy Tales (7:03)
Croisades (9:10)
Review: Sometime Better Listen, Homage and Kolour LTD producer Chevals makes his bow on Whiskey Disco with a quartet of perfectly pitched re-edits. The French artist begins with the lolloping deep house-disco bounce of "La Bouteille", where jammed-out electric piano lines and rising horn motifs increase in prominence thoughout. It's rather good, all told, as is the shirts-off, hands-aloft soaring disco soul of "Under Your Command", which sounds like one of those edits that will create pandemonium if dropped at the right time. Over on the flipside, "Fairy Tales" is a slick and soulful take on an '80s soul-era electrofunk shuffler, while "Croisades" is a punch-drunk dance through horn-heavy disco-funk pastures.

Review: Sleazy McQueen presents another wicked serving of Disco deviance on the always reliable Whiskey Disco. The North Carolina based imprint's 57th edition gives us four more surefire disco edits by the likes of Tony Chocoloney from Melbourne, Australia who gives us some funked-up soulpower on "Less Groove", Ukrainian Alex Zuiev gives us a loungey kinda something' on the tres chic "Valentina" and Anthony Mansfield delivers an unrepentant use of sleek filter sweeps throughout the slo-mo antics of "It's Too Late" featuring a bit of help from good buddy DJ M3.

Review: Movin 2 Fast? Not when these sparkling disco house jams are spinning... You'll be shimmying and boogying at just the right speed as these Whiskey wunderkinds let loose. Each of the four cuts is a highlight in its own way; Eddie C conjures up the spirits of Cevin Fisher with just a dash of Krivit keys, Alkalino's low-swung bass jacker is as sexy as disco gets, Cole Medina pilfers a very well-known sample and injects it with undiluted disco dust while Osmose closes the show with an ace edit of the Alan Parsons Project.

VinylAddicted & SMQ - "Another Love"
Pontchartrain - "Get Over You"
Review: A fantastic foursome from boozy beat peddlers Whiskey Disco, the "Another Love" EP features label mates old and new. Eddie C ignites proceedings with a chubby electro boogie fused jam that pops and rolls with big disco bubbles and obese synth bass. Slide down deeper to meet label newbie Scott M who's done some serious dancefloor damage with a well-known Vernon Burch track. Further on we hit the EP title track, a Chi-town-style jacker with filtered flurries and a timeless disco house message. Finally we end on a well-spaced, loopy deep disco twist on France Joli's "Gonna Get Over You" courtesy of Pontchartrain.

Review: Polish duo Holiday 80 deliver an accomplished debut for the ever impressive Whiskey Disco cause, not just as editors but as selectors with a great nose for obscure but wholly relevant source material... Such as this clutch of Polish disco classics. From the Balearic, Faze-O style keys riding high on "Kto Dat Nam" to the early Kraak & Smaak beat-boogie flavours of "Bez Tego I Owego" via the crude new romance and synthetic vibrations on "Zabawa W Stylu Folk", this is a great spread for chefs so young.

Playing A Groove For An Hour (6:43)
The Camel (6:57)
Review: Having made his name with a string of fine rework releases on the acclaimed Tugboat Edits imprint, Guillermo "Hotmood" Gonzalez makes his first appearance on Whiskey Disco. Disco De Los Muertos ("Disco of the dead", if our Spanish is up to scratch) is predictably full of cheeky dancefloor moments that should appeal to both house and disco DJs alike. Our pick of the bunch is probably the low-slung "Playing The Groove For An Hour", where fizzing synth stabs ride a ridiculously rubbery slap bass riff and rolling house groove. That said, the deeper and dreamier "The Camel" is rather good, while the horror-tinged Mexican funk-goes-house fare stretched across the A-side is both rock solid and highly playable.

X-otic Love (Hristo edit)

Be My Lover (Pontchartrain edit)
Dance With Me (Pontchartrain edit)
Review: The clue is in the title... Whiskey Disco's latest compendium "Space Dance" reminds of the many ways disco leans into the cosmos. We ignite with Hristo's softly euphoric synth escapade "X-Otic Love" before dropping deep into the salubrious strings and ABBA-ish vocals of "Dance Dance Dance". Deeper again we're flung deep into the stars with two edits from Pontchartrain... One mid 80s Detroit planet munching, analogue bashing wig-out ("Be My Lover") and one fuzzy, post-disco chugger ("Dance With Me").

You're The Reason Why (5:18)

One Night In Prague (6:32)
Review: It would be safe to say that Kayroy (real name Finian Langham) is on a roll. This is his third must-have EP of 2019 and his second outing on Whiskey Disco. It begins with "Rosella", a superb revision of Crown Heights Affair's "Say a Prayer" that strips out most of the vocals and layers up tasteful overdubs to give the track a more cosmic and dubbed-out feel. "You're The Reason Why" is a loopy but groovy rearrangement of a dewy-eyed laidback disco classic, while "Silk & Satin" is a riotous rework of a heavy disco-funk number rich in sharp, rising horn lines, screaming guitars, sweaty drums and toasty bass. Arguably best of all, though, is the fizzing, dubbed out Italo-disco-goes-poodle-perm-rock insanity of "One Night In Prague".

Like Damn! (6:35)
Pavlova Casanova (6:33)
Sandy Shackles (5:15)
Review: Whiskey Disco's latest fun-time excursion comes courtesy of Kayroy, a Melbourne-based producer who has never before released music on vinyl. As wax debuts go, "Pavlova Casanova" is very strong, with the up-and-coming producer serving up a quartet of heavy peak-time disco treats. Particularly potent is raging A-side "Like Damn!", an all-action affair that stretches out and beefs up a killer old chunk of high-tempo disco with audible Latin flourishes. Title track "Pavlova Casanova" is a slightly sweeter but no less thrilling affair crafted from what sounds like a familiar disco staple, while "Sandy Shackles" gets just the right balance between guitar-flecked disco sweetness, dubby boogie brilliance and rolling peak-time house.

Shark Infested (5:34)
Brandy Beach (5:23)
Starcrossed (6:09)
Review: Two years ago, Kayroy (real name Finnian Langham) seemed to be building up a head of steam thanks to two fine EPs of sample-heavy, house-friendly disco workouts on Whiskey Disco. Happily, we can confirm that he's in fine form on this delayed return to action. Opener 'Shark Infested' is typical of his style, with simmering samples from a lesser-known disco gem (strings, vocals and so on) being joined by gentle acid lines and rolling house beats. 'Brandy Beach' is a cheery, summery and tastefully beefed-up version of what sounds like a Brazilian jazz-funk gem from the late 1970s, while 'Starcrossed' sees him tool up and rearrange a spacey excursion from the camper end of the disco spectrum.

Review: Whiskey Disco #74 marks a return to classic form for this long-running and consistently-worth-checking label. Following Michael The Lion's impressive single, the label now offers a collection of expertly sampled tracks tailored for summer fun. The A side features a hidden gem from Cole Medina which is finally making its debut on the label. This track is set to elevate rooftop parties, poolside gatherings, or any high-energy event while the flip side comes from Love Athletics wh delivers 'All of My Love,' a vibrant track with a cheeky vocal sample, driving bass groove, and nods to 'Sex Shooter.' The release concludes with Sleazy McQueen's analogue madness which blends pulsating drums and hypnotic grooves with a surprising twist.

'I Found Peace' features Michael on guitar and Natasha on drum machines and synths, along with Michael's long-time studio bandmates. Review: From the tropics comes Whiskey Disco, a sneaky re-edit label bent on dredging the decanter for diffident dancefloor genius from latent disco perpetrators. It's loosely connected to Sleazy McQueen and his assorted cohorts. On the A side we have the one and only Osmose: DJ, digger, sound designer & producer but most of all: the originator of the Osmose Sound 7" Vinyl Record Stabilizer. He throws down some late night, deep down boogie business (on the very soulful tip) for the A side. On the flip, Thoma Cher makes his debut with some neon lit 80s disco vibes on "All You Need" while "Fright Night" is more on the Italo angle.

Review: Whiskey Disco tap up Robert Ouimet, a man mooted as the godfather of Montreal disco. His DJ career may reach back to the '80s, but it's only in the past year he's been dipping his toe into the world of edits. Luckily the man has some serious knowledge on deep cuts and the right way to work them, so that's what you get in full force on this excellent 12". "Space Love" is a heavy instrumental workout with a surging rhythm section and some utterly deadly keys nimbly flexing over the top of the jam. "Love Disco" is a big and bold vocal, "Inside Lookin In" is a raunchy stomper and "Waiting On Love" takes things in a jazz funk direction. Whichever track tickles your fancy at any given time, these are all classily edited party favours for peak time hours.

Review: We've been very impressed with the re-edits of Toronto based party-starters the Patchouli Brothers. This four-tracker marks their first appearance on Whiskey Disco, and comes on the back of a run of killer 12" singles on Basic Fingers. They hit the ground running with elastic EP opener "He Wonders", where fiendishly exotic synthesizer lines and hazy, misty-eyed vocals ride bouncy beats and rubbery bass guitar, before sauntering off into horn-heavy deep disco-funk territory on "A Mighty Joy". The fun continues on the flipside, where the formidably fuzzy, off-kilter warmth of tropical disco stepper "Can't Stop Christy" is joined by the classic disco flex of fantastic closing track "Take You There".

Review: Sleazy McQueen's Whiskey Disco label seems to be on fire at present, with new EPs of white-hot edits appearing on an almost weekly basis. Predictably, there's more high-grade material on this latest split artist four-tracker. Pontchartain kicks things off with a brilliantly dubbed-out take on Gayle Adams classic "Lifesaver" (previously successfully extended and re-touched by FLX One a few years back), before Osmose delivers organ solos, orgasmic groans and rump shaking beats on "Broadway Kiss". Flip for Derek Kaye's "Holdin' On", a deliciously celebratory number full of cheery scat vocals and incessant grooves, and "I Got Your Wang", a cheery, sun-kissed chunk of disco perfection from Rulefinns Kravstor.

ThatManMonkz - "Radiation Steppa" (5:51)
Review: A double dose of goodness here, as Whiskey Disco regulars Pontchartrain and thatmanmonkz serve up two tasty new re-edits apiece. It's the former who handles side A. He begins with the breezy, tropical-sounding disco stomp of "La Magie" - all punchy horns, classic disco bass, fizzing synth lines and glassy-eyed female vocals - before brilliantly reworking a suitably obscure disco/jazz-funk instrumental (the suitably spacey "Hey Mariposa"). Arguably even better is "Luh Me On Mi Celly", the low-slung, stretched-out dub disco revision that counts as thatmanmonkz's first contribution to the EP. His second, "Radiation Steppa", is a fizzing, synth-heavy disco-boogie number blessed with passionate male group vocals.

Review: Detroit's Pontchartrain teams up with NYC's The Silver Rider for an all American, all house and disco EP for the lovely Whiskey Disco stable - what more could you possibly want on a Thursday morning, just before the weekend? Pontchartrain takes over the A-side with two slick and sexy disco nuggets, the first a groovy soulful piece in "Work It Alright", and the second a filtered disco-house hybrid named "What You Doing To Me". On the B-side, The Rider goes in Pepe Bradock mode with "Muzik", whereas "Never Stop" is slower, jazzier, and perfectly sun-kissed. Beauts.
