Meftah - "Up From Here" (5:10)
Taelue - "Liberate" (7:20)
Afrikan Sciences - "Bass Reeves" (4:22)
Review: Deep house might not be getting the headlines it did a few years ago, but that actually means those who jumped on the hype train have all alighted once again and now only those truly devoted to the form remain. That means we get high quality EPs like this one from Visions Inc. Aleqs Notal takes us on a spiritual trip littered with toms and jazz-chords to kick things off before Meftah gets more experimental with a broken beat, tripped out keys and rubbery bass all sinking you into a state of trance. For those who like it more straight up, Taelue obliges, and as with all Afrikan Sciences tunes, the closer is a masterfully deep concoction.

Life (6:52)
Wonderlust (short version) (2:44)
Review: Alex Attias is the man behind the El Mustang Project and here he teases his upcoming album with a couple of new tunes on Visions Inc. As always, they find him fusing the organic with the synthetic to make for deep and silky house tunes that straddle genres and ages. 'Love Me Better' opens with a gorgeous vocal and rickety drums that ooze charm. 'Dream Drumz' gets a little more raw and edgy with pixelated melodic spirals and 'Life' gets old school. Cowbells ping about the mix as distorted bass and frazzled pads add texture to this subtle throwback jam.

I Wanna Know (8:18)
I Wanna Know (dub) (7:49)
Review: Those who've followed Alex Attias' career over the last two decades will tell you that he's always been capable of crafting the kind of jazzy, soulful, life-affirming fare more readily associated with UK broken beat producers. He's at it again on "I Wanna Know", a deliciously warm and sultry slab of dancefloor soul rich in samba-fired house beats, fluid piano lines (provided, we think, by Kid K), drowsy chords and a killer lead vocal from Georgia Anne Muldrow. Over on side B, Attias strips out most of Muldrow's vocal on a Dub Mix that rightly layers up the beats, emphasizes the track's jazzy horns and virtually bathes in the liquidity of its jazz-funk synths.

Alex Attias & Justin Chapman & Hajime Yochizawa - "The Message (For You)" (10:00)
Alex Attias & Mark De Clive Lowe - "The Waiting Game" (7:57)
Review: Since -re-establishing his early noughties Visions Inc imprint in 2017, Swiss scene stalwart Alex Attias has delivered some of his most impressive and musically dexterous material. He's at it again here on a two-tracker that showcases his love of studio collaboration. Our pick of the pair is exuberant, life-affirming A-side "The Message (For You)", a sublime slab of loose-limbed Latin house soulfulness featuring vocals from Justin Chapman and keys-work from Japanese artist Hajime Yochizawa. Attias' old pal Mark De Clive-Lowe lends a hand of equally positive and sparkling flipside "The Waiting Game", adding all manner of jazz-funk inspired sound synths to a fine, rubbery deep house workout.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Slight surface marks ***

Swiss label Visions Inc returns with The Evolution: Phase Four. On the A side, you've got label chief Alex Attias who appears with the emotive nu-jazz journey 'Magical Feeling' (feat Sohan Wilson) followed by Life Recorder who gets some real proper house vibes happening on 'Eternal Tones 'reaching near spiritual moments. Over on the flip, June Jazzin gets those early noughties UK vibes (think Bugz In The Attic, Kaidi Tatham et al) in effect on 'Sikhanyiso' and Mark E is in fine form as always on the deep contemplation of 'Tracer'.

Cookie Monster (10:16)
What Do We Do (8:57)
Review: Alex Attias seems to have found a soul mate in Luman Child AKA Pascal Strauss, a talented musician whose rubbery basslines and jammed-out electric piano lines feature prominently on both "Cookie Monster" and "What Do We Do". While many will be drawn towards the eyes-closed soul chorus vocals and elastic deep house swing of the latter, it's the jaunty, party-ready A-side that's arguably the strongest dancefloor workout. Similar in ethos to the Herbie Hancock/jazz-funk-influenced work of Dego and Kaidi Tatham's 2000 Black project, the track is arguably one of the strongest of Attias's long career.

Journey To The Light (with Trinidadian Deep) (7:52)
Illusion (with Mark De Clive Lowe) (7:25)
Review: Stephane Attias is back on his elder brother's esteemed Visions Inc. with a couple of sublime journeys into the deep on the label's 41st release. 'Journey To The Light'' is a collaboration with the prodigious Canadian producer Trinidadian Deep, who brings his inimitable touch to the track with his hypnotic array of synth textures and emotive piano, altogether entrancing you with a backdrop of expertly crafted UK style broken beats. Over on the flip, it's a similarly nu-jazz affair with a right legend of the sound lending a hand; none other than Los Angeles-based New Zealander Mark de Clive Lowe who gives his Midas touch to the smooth operations of 'Illusion'.

Human (Full Experience) (12:16)
Human (Inner Experience) (7:52)
Review: Long-serving German producer Lars Bartkhun has been rather quiet of late, with his last release of note being 2018's superb hook-up with fellow organic deep house fusionist Trinidadian Deep on Neroli. So has this new single been worth the wait? We'd emphatically say yes. "Human" is a sun-kissed slice of house posivity that wraps jazzy horns, sparkling pianos and colourful synthesizer sounds around a groove that's two parts shuffling Latin rhythms and three parts jacking house. The A-side "Full Experience" version, which clocks in at a smidgeon below 13 minutes, is particularly wonderful. That said the Rhodes-laden "Inner Experience" mix, a kind of tech-tinged, piano-heavy deep house dub, is also rather fine.

Tryezz - "Later Frequencies" (5:46)
Stephane Attias - "Fairy Tales" (6:16)
Review: The Visions Inc label has been defining its own grand of house music since inception in 1999. For this one the label draws on assured artistic talent from all over. Deenamic's 'Fear's manages to be a nice basement party jam but also oozes a sense of jazz-funk cool. Orlando Voorn again joins the dots between Europe and Detroit with the dancing keys and future techno soul of his magnificent 'In Deep Thoughts' and Tryezz builds the pressure on his steamy and late night 'Later Frequencies.' Stephane Attias's 'Fairy Tales' rounds out this limited 12" with more deep and misty eyed grooves for those who like it cosy and cuddly.

Review: Fabrizio Fattore made a big debut on Gigi Testa's World Peace Music label and now follows it up in fine fashion. The Naples producer is part of the NEUHM camp/family/club and oversees the 30th release from Visions Recordings. He serves up two gems with "Ojibwa" being the first and making something of a deep space opus. It's widescreen, filled with evocative sci-fi imagery and channels plenty of early Detroit majesty. On "Namid", the pads disappear to infinity, the synths sing and the beats stay deep before closing things out in more tribal fashion with a "Lost Tribe Dub" of "Ojibwa".

Humbolt Park (7:42)
I Wonder (7:37)
Review: Since making his debut as Hanna 21 years ago, Warren Harris has delivered a string of inspired, soul-fired deep house and broken beat releases for a clutch of admired labels, most notably Freerange, Sound Signature, Track Mode, Shall Not Fade and Melodies International. Here he makes his first appearance on Alex Attias' Visions Inc. imprint with a strong two-track missive. Like many of his peers have recently done, Harris has decided to doff a cap to jazz-funk on the warm, loose and heady brilliance of A-side "Humbolt Park", whose Herbie Hancock-inspired synths and distinctive drum programming are reminiscent of Kaidi Tatham. If anything, similarly inclined flipside "I Wonder" is even better, something we put down to the quality of his chords and chiming melodies.

Private Party (6:25)
Life Rhythm (5:18)
Review: Under the Javonntte pseudonym, Brian Garrett has delivered some of the most impressive deep house records of recent years. Predictably, the quality threshold remains high throughout this latest Javonntte EP, Garett's first for Alex Attias's Visions Inc. label. On the A-side you'll find "Vocal" and "Radio" versions of "Searchin", a soul-powered chunk of analogue-rich deepness that sits somewhere between the musically complex brilliance of Ron Trent and the slick, rolling warmth of early '90s Goldtone Records releases. Turn to the B-side and you'll find "Private Party", a chunkier and rougher, riff-propelled peak-time bumper, and the redlined, Chez Damier-meets-Derrick Carter bounce of "Life Rhythm". As the old cliche goes, this is all killer and no filler.

Galactic Love (6:11)
Kissed By The Sun (5:14)
Galactic Love (Visions remix) (8:29)
Review: Keys of Lynx is a Swiss pair who are both skilled musicians. Here they serve up a suite of lush and musical cuts that fuse boogie, synth, jazz, funk and deep house into irresistible new dance floor forms. Depending on the context these could be early warm ups to get the floor going, or peak time workouts to send people into overdrive. "Galactic Love" echoes elements of Omar S's raw 80s production style as it rides on rickety drums and glows with synth brightness, while "Kissed By The Sun" rough rides on more ramshackle drums as sci-fi keys glisten and glow up top. Add in a bassline of which Dam Funk would be proud, and a more house leaning version of "Galactic Love" and you have a very assured 12".

Chroma (Alex Attias edit) (7:28)
Review: Greek bass player Petros Klampanis has his 'Chroma' tune reworked by tow contemporary talents here on the Visions Inc label. Jon Dixon gets fist with a nice rough edged but punchy rework built on bulky and rickety beats. The lush chords are draped over the top to bring melancholic feels and are sure to work the floor into a lather. The Alex Attias edit is more manic, with wild jazz keys, tumbling drums that feel like they may collapse at any moment and a symphony of chords that rise out through them to take you into the next dimension.

Inspiration (8:35)
Innersoul Voyage (10:03)
Review: The latest missive on Alex Attias' revitalized Visions Inc. label comes courtesy of Thomas Arroyo AKA L'Aroye, a producer whose outings on Faces Records and Magic Black caught the ear of many deep house DJs. It's something of a doozy, too, with L'Aroye serving up two sparkling workouts that are almost rush-inducing in their layered melodiousness and rhythmic shuffle. The headline attraction is undoubtedly A-side "Inspiration", where Latin house beats are wrapped in squiggly P-funk motifs, talkbox vocals, rich chords and sun-kissed, Kai Alce style flourishes. "Innersoul Voyage" is an altogether deeper but arguably heavier affair, where dreamy chords, rich bass and blissful melodic motifs slowly rise above a particularly percussive, Osunlade style rhythm track.

Time Passing (9:29)
Review: As both a member of Glenn Underground's Strictly Jaz Unit crew and as a solo artist, Vick Lavender has made some mighty fine deep house in his time. Further proof arrives via this fine two-tracker, which marks the veteran producer's first outing on Alex Attias' Visions Inc label. Probably the pick of the pair is superb A-side "Beautiful Lie", where guest singer D Millz adds a soulful vocal to a glorious bed of dreamy chords, jaunty jazz-funk bass, carnival-friendly drums and colourful synth solos. Lavender continues on a similar theme with flipside "Time Passing", whose loose-limbed broken house drums recall the work of Osunlade. Add in some killer chords, jazzy electric piano solos and squelchy bass, and you have something that Ron Trent would be proud of.

Review: Alex Attias' Visions Recordings present the brand new single from Kriss Kortz aka Life Recorder with a killer four tracker. The Marseille-based producer heads up Life Notes Recordings and has released a few great singles on various labels such as Aesthetic Audio and Hizou. Starts off with 'Feel The Glow' which is proper Chicago deep house in the vein on the seminal Prescription Records, then spiritualised drums merge with 303 acid euphoria on 'World Confusion' which rounds up the A side. Flip over and we've got the mesmerising "Lfs' which again unashamedly looks to another of The Windy City's greats in Larry Heard, with its chunky Juno bassline and immaculate drum programming.

Hanna - "Heist" (6:37)
Reekee - "Let It Make" (6:38)
Review: Alex Attias' Visions Inc imprint has decided to launch a new multi-artist EP series. Happily, the first "Phase" in the "Evolution" series - they've promised three more this year - delivers a suitably strong start. Patrice Scott sets a high benchmark with opener "Rain Dance", a wonderfully warm fusion of elastic deep house beats, spacey electronic motifs and tactile Rhodes chords, before Kai Alce breaks up the beats a little on his effortlessly soulful, jazz-funk influenced revision of "Stay My Way" by Kemetic Just presents Justone. Hanna's flipside opener "Heist" is suitably deep, starry, groovy and soulful, while Reekee's "Let It Make" is a musically rich affair full of jazz-funk bass, fizzing synths, far-sighted chords and bustling beats that sit somewhere between broken beat and breakbeat house.

Review: Since stepping out from the shadow of his mentor Ron Trent, Trinidadian Deep has delivered a string of musically rich and life-affirming EPs that effortlessly join the dots between bespoke deep house and a variety of global sounds, styles and rhythms. He tips a hat towards his Trinidadian roots on "Natty Dread", a calypso-influenced chunk of deep house warm rich in smooth but weighty bass, spacey synths and densely layered Caribbean percussion. "Electric Boogie" delivers on its title by wrapping echoing, delay-laden synth riffs around jaunty deep house beats, bubbly but sweet electronics and tactile, eyes-closed chords.

Native Revolution (8:15)

Review: Real proper deep stuff from one of the true heroes of the Underground. Toronto hero Trinidadian Deep can always be counted on to deliver the real proper deep stuff. While labels like 'deep-house' get bandied about so filiipantly these days, this guy is keeping the true spirit of the sound alive - and he is the very definition of it, in our humble opinion. Life affirming, evocative and bittersweet are just some of the words that come to mind when trying to describe the melancholic urban blues of "Native Revolution" - it's just typical 'Trini' really: doing what he does so well! With its roaring church organs and those shimmering Ron Trent (his cousin, by the way) style chord progressions, backed by sweltering steel drums - it's awe-inspiring. Speaking of the steel drums, those powerful rhythms take more of central role on the flip, with another 'version' of sorts in the form of "Native Tribe".

Review: On his previous releases, most of which appeared on his own label Tribe Records, Dean Zepherin AKA Zepherin Saint cannily blurred the boundary between the warm electronic sounds of vintage U.S deep house/New Jersey garage, and more organic forms of soulful dance music. This EP tends a little more towards the former than the latter, but remains impressively soul-fired. We're big fans of the organ-laden, EP-opening vocal number, 'Resurrection' - all squeezable synth-bass, off-kilter house beats, hazy trumpet lines and sun-kissed chords - but there's plenty of fine material elsewhere on the 12", too. We'd advise checking superb flipside 'Escape', which sounds like a gloriously positive and colourful fusion of all that's good about Osunlade and Ron Trent's productions. The retro-futurist style '88 Dub' of that track completes a superb package.
