Summer Came My Way (radio edit)
Summer Came My Way (Ambient edit)
Review: Greg Wilson and The Reynolds first teamed up in 2015 for 'Summer Came My Way' as a vocoder-topped summer twinkler, backed up by sweltering handclaps and gutting electric pianistic held notes. The Merseyside DJ and producer is alleged, at least as far as Discogs bios go, to have pioneered the UK electro scene, though his collaborative sensibility with twins Katherine and Carmel Reynolds here proved otherwise downbeat but munificent in emotion, compared to electro's later superlatively harsh, snappy, two-step snarings. The Balearic soul of 'Summer Came My Way' as deserving of its new ambient version, and it is the real highlight here, manifesting before us dazzlingly with its scatted lyrics and acid torsions.

Backstabbers (Eric Kupper instrumental mix)
Review: C&C Music Factory lynchpin Eric Kupper takes on 'BackStabbers' with a considered touch, reinforcing its groove while preserving the essence of its original 1982 recording. Captured at Virtue Studios by a powerhouse ensembleiincluding MFSB and Salsoul Orchestra greats like Earl Young, Ron Baker and Vince Montana, Jr.ithis session defined the lush, orchestrated soul of Philadelphia. Joe Freeman's lead vocal remains the focal point, its urgency cutting through Kupper's updated mix, which tightens the percussion and adds a refined low-end punch. Side A presents the vocal mix, where the track's layered instrumentation breathes with new clarity, while Side B strips it down to an instrumental, letting the intricate arrangements shine. US-based Kupper, a veteran of over 1,400 remixes, treats the material with the respect of a historian and the instincts of a modern dancefloor craftsman, balancing nostalgia with crisp, club-ready sonics.

Review: A tribute to who, you may ask? "J Dilla" is the immediate answer on Kidzblock's latest fidgety A-side, and their first to manifest as a 7" on their very own Kay-Dee Records. The house production duo may be new kids on the block, but their handicraft betrays a much abler quad of ears than the "up-and-coming house production duo" might suggest to the undiscerned. 'The Tribute' riffles with gospel tremolos in the back and parping filter-saw bounces in the front, bringing a real heat that holds truly to the essence of the word "bounce".

Review: The Bird series is back once again with a fourth offering and it is label founder Jason Wilkins who takes care of this one under his Camille moniker. It kicks off with a flip of 'Hogin' Machine' that has raw and dusty drums and funky basslines that keep on coming and keep you locked. things slow down n the B-Side with 'Safari in D'. This one becomes a more mellow and laidback sound that offer a different take on an original by L'Eclair. The bass is warm and melodic, the drums loveably lazy and the keys jazzy and pensive. Super stuff for lo-fi lovers.

Review: Following a string of standout singles and a full-length album last year, seasoned Tokyo salsa collective Central waste no time with a killer new 7" release, a finisher for the floor. The A1 delivers a fresh Latin take on Earth, Wind & Fire's evergreen floor fave 'Brazilian Rhyme', optically shifted through vibrant, horn-driven movements and bolder basslines, shimmering electric pianisms, and brumming brass, concocting an patented sound all their own. On the flip, DJ Kawasaki steps in to reimagine the band's much sought-after 2023 single 'Samurai', already a global wantlist staple, transforming it into a hotter club-salsa charmer.

Review: This is a single taken from UK jazz-funk outfit Funkshone's debut album which features a cover of the classic free-soul anthem 'I Believe In Miracles' by the Jackson Sisters. It's a raw and direct funk-soul sound that has been increasingly popular in recent years with champions like Floating Points often weaving it into his sets. On the B-side, they offer a freshly recorded take on 'Panama' by Roy Porter Sound Machine, which was previously only found on select CD editions. It is powered by an explosive drum break that hits with near-manic intensity from the very first beat and is a nice driving counter to the soulful A-side.

Review: Italian producer Tommaso Rebel, a regular on Legofunk, delivers a vibrant fusion of Afrobeat, jazz and club-ready grooves on this funk-infused 7". Side-A's 'Atom's Dance' is a slow-burning gem, blending jazzy percussion with deep Afro rhythms. A dynamic flute takes center stage, weaving through layers of upright bass and warm piano chords, creating an intoxicatingly smooth yet rhythmically rich atmosphere. On the other side, 'Jungle Jazz' shifts gears with an upbeat, electrifying energy. A lively saxophone leads the charge, riding a wave of syncopated piano riffs and house-inspired drum patterns. The track pulses with a hypnotic rhythm, effortlessly bridging jazz improvisation with club-driven momentum. Rebel's skillful blend of organic instrumentation and dancefloor sensibilities makes this release a well balanced and enjoyable record.

This special edition tosses us an unreleased remix from Kenny Dope, infusing his signature funk-in-the-trunk style into an authentic and primally mixed track, working directly from Mitchison's original 8-track tapes. First released in 2006 on Kenny Dope and Keb Darge's Kay-Dee label, this instrumental version of Archie Bell & The Drells' 1968 hit quickly became a favourite in soul and acid jazz circles. Review: This is the first Suede release with a co-writing credit for guitarist Richard Oakes, who succeeded Bernard Butler. Oakes is on the b-side 'Together', while the a-side - the best track on Suede's iconic second album Dog Man Star - is credited to the legendary plankspanker Butler. 'New Generation' is a beautiful blend of Manic Street Preachers-esque rock with Bowie and T-Rex-esque glam - it's a perfect pop song. Singer Brett Anderson is at his hooky and melodic best here. Meanwhile, 'Together' takes a more Stone Roses-y blues rock direction and it's tougher with more bile, but still majestic thanks to the lush wall of sound that Suede do so well, whilst retaining their hard rock DNA.

The track made waves upon its 1994 release, with its genre-defying energy gaining instant admiration from artists like Beck, Chemical Brothers, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion (who later covered it), and Make-Up. "We loved this piece of ramshackle punk funk when we first heard it on 7" in 1994 and we still love it now!" said The Chemical Brothers in 2025. Still a staple at underground dance parties, the track has amassed over 100,000 YouTube streams, so for the first time, it's now available digitally, paired with a fresh remix by Hifi Sean, best as former singer with C86/baggy heroes Soup Dragons.

The A-side offers a refined version of 'Am I Your Woman?', plus a take on the Chi-Lites' classic 'Are You My Woman (Tell Me So)' with Ria Currie's standout vocals lodging deep in your soul. This one was inspired by a night spent dancing at a club in Osaka during their 2005 Japan tour and arms with a smooth groove. Review: Kelly Finnigan, based in San Francisco, continues his rich legacy of soul with a fresh collaboration alongside fellow genre legend Renaldo Domino. The pair's new 45, kicks off with 'Keep Me In Mind,' is a track originally laid down in 1967 by Buffalo's Samson & Delilah, but Finnigan brings a modern, soul-soaked touch to the tune, locking in with tight rhythms and vibrant horns, all while channeling the essence of classic male soul duos like Sam & Dave. On the flip side, 'Let Me Count The Reasons,' pulled from Finnigan's recent A Lover Was Born, dials down the tempo into a more tender, romantic groove. Written with long-time collaborator Max Ramey, it beautifully weaves influences from Detroit to Philadelphia soul. This 45 is yet another nod to Finnigan's knack for crafting timeless soul, making it a must-have for DJs and lovers of classic, heartfelt music. With every release, Finnigan proves why he remains at the forefront of modern soul.

Review: Bristol beatmsiths and remixing duo The Allergies have been hot since '16, quietly pushing the buttons, twisting the dials and raising the throw levers on their resident soul console, Jalapeno Records. This time, though they've not revealed their sources, the boys have once again delivered on their promise to scour the waxen depths of Philly filler-upper funk, with 'Bye Bye Baby' panning a mammoth breaksoul gold rush, and 'Heartbreaker' offering a counterpoint in longing body percussions and "please don't leave me"s.

Review: Wilfully naive, disco-soul edit editions from Tito Wun, the uptempo alias of Cologne-based Cool Bap producer and Groove Attack Record Store owner Twit One. This three-track journey will have you loose and lytic in no time: Wun's production extrudes sensitively across a tactful edit of Ecstasy, Passion & Pain's 'Touch & Go', not long before dropping into a driven-loopier version of an obscurer sample source, with 'Home'. We're just as hard-pressed to source the UK rap sample used in 'Raise Dat', but its celeritous confusion with conga hits and jovial ragtimey background moods prove a hit.

Sweet Summer Day
Review: Bossa-jazz-on-the-floor, coming our way via Nova Vida aka. Chris Bangs, whose work over the years with the likes of Mick Talbot and Style Council has won him many an unofficial accolade. Sound-designed to refresh, relax and arouse, 'Each And Every One' and 'Sweet Summer Day' are twin pleasure-philtres. The former is an unmistakable Everything But The Girl cover version, salvaged and reformed from the only lead single to make up their debut album, Eden. The latter is an earned reimagining of Chris Rea's 1998 track 'Sweet Summer Day', with Brazilian samba come house undertones, and a sweetly unbothered, parasol-sheltered lyric, with sung talk of clear blue skies and unfazed days.

Review: Measured Mile, the 7”s label run by Bob Stanley, firms its focus on DJ-friendly 45s that are or were either very rare or previously unavailable in the format. Its run of sharply curated 7”s is replenished with another three-tracker, this time an unusual choice, fencing two classic British sports broadcasting themes, pivoting from midtempo funk to faster breaks. Leading the A are two standouts from Douglas Wood, ‘Cranes’, known as the punchy, synth-heavy theme from the BDO World Darts Championship - and ‘Drag Racer’, the atmospheric opener to the BBC’s Snooker World Championships coverage, both drawn from the revered Studio G library catalogue. On the flip, John Cameron’s ‘Sprocket Shuffle’ - the lively 1980s ITV Snooker theme - rounds out the package in a flurry of analogue texture and charming nostalgia.

Review: From Papunya in the Northern Territory, Luritja artist Keanu Nelson returns with a new two-track 7”, produced in collaboration with Sydney’s Yuta Matsumura. It’s a continuation of their distinct blend of desert-rooted storytelling and homespun electronics. ‘Place Where I Go’ merges YouTube-era hip-hop with dubbed-out textures and plaintive piano, Nelson’s voice diaristic and close. ‘Kapi Ngalyananni’, sung in Luritja, is a water song laced with clapsticks, parched melodica and ghostly pads. Grounded in Central Australia and shaped with minimal means, these tracks shimmer with spirit and quiet clarity, holding space for both the ancestral and the everyday.

Review: Brian Ellis, known for his multi-instrumental work as part of Birdbone Unlimited on Star Creature, steps out with a solo release that channels West Coast flair into a bold reinterpretation of early 80s dancefloor energy. Revisiting Bobby O's production 'Love Is The Drug' for Roni Griffith's 1982 hit, Ellis transforms the original into a shimmering blend of Italectro and funk-driven electrobass, a proto-freestyle fandango filtered through Ellis' signature analog sensibility. A high-gloss, synth-laced homage results on orange gamboge vinyl; a replenishing source of sunny sonic vitamin D.

Review: Emma Noble, the emerging soul singer from London, delivers a powerful performance on the girl group soul anthem 'Unstoppable'. Her second single, it's poised to become a next-gen floor-filler; catch us playing it on repeat, *in flagranti*, after it premiered on Craig Charles' BBC6 Soul Show in early 2025. 'Going Going Gone' backs it up on the B-side, as the first single from FPE's upcoming album Waves. Hearing rising Australian singer-songwriter and pop genius J Mahon on vocal duties, the track's catchy brass sections combine with J's androgynous soul vocals, and evokes the sounds of young Motown artists in the style's 60s adolescence.

Review: TNT Rap Classics are a ghostly rap reissues outfit, operating in the shadows, but they've churned out a truly solid ream of stadium/megastar rap reissues on 7" for several years now. After lookbacks on Nelly and Beyonce they now pay due deference to Eminem, placing special attention on the rapper's early-noughts Slim Shady era. 'Without Me' was the whimsical, cheekily intoned lead single from The Eminem Show, finding Eminem lampooning pop culture, the media, and his critics. 'The Real Slim Shady', meanwhile, came before, with biting critique of the pop cultural fascination with authenticity: "Will the real Slim Shady please stand up?"

Their debut 7" on Touching Bass is limited to 'Belly Dub' and 'OSOTB', the former described as a "Sino-grime" growler whose irascible basses aggress a hearse's load of dragged, druggy drums. On the flip resides 'Osotb', a fluid, aerated, weightless yet somehow paradoxically basement-deep-housey complement.

Review: California pop-punk comedic shitheads The Dickies have always provided a refreshing, jovial counterpoint to the political and aggressive edges often associated with the punk movement ever since their 1977 inception. Known for their leftfield cover versions and numerous film, television and especially sci-fi references, it was an ideal meeting of creative minds when the band were tapped to pen the theme song for 1988 cult classic horror-comedy Killer Klowns From Outer Space, a task they took to with gusto, while going on to shoot an accompanying music video with the single becoming both a fan-favourite as well as entry point for many a newcomer. This 7" provides a newly re-recorded version of the now iconic theme song as well as new versions of both 'Give It Back' and 'Silent Night'; two cuts from their much adored 1979 debut LP The Incredible Shrinking Dickies.

Between them they have plenty of styles in their arsenal and here combine them with bold analogue synths, percussion with a tribal twist and some special guest collaborations. 'Arayot' is a real bass odyssey with spaced-out melodies and marimbas alongside Ophir "Kutiman" Kutiel's drums. 'Tanim' brings some moody and psychedelic voodoo funk with hard-hitting drums, edgy clavinets and a magnificent synth lead by Romano, while the icing on the cake is a superb flute solo by Shlomi Alon. Emotional tension and groove come together perfectly here on what might be UV & Nenor's best yet.

Review: "Another 45 for the live ones!" Lyrical self-referentiality on vinyl is a surefire tool for drawing attention to your release, and Switzerland's Mike "DJ Tron" Mory knows it. Securing his place behind the decks at just 14, Mory cut his teeth on Italo disco and acid house records before turning both hands to tagging walls and turntablism, immersing himself fully in diasporas of breaks and hip-hop. Adding to a walloping pantheon of forty-fives - there are so many on Burning Sole that we're sure they'll break the 100 mark record soon - he here teams up with fellow dawn-breaker Venomous2000 for a serious double set of mashups, verging on the driven and the funky.

Review:  Loveland, Ohio's Colemine label offer a 7" indie exclusive on this furtive freshener from house engineer and regularly featured artist Leroi Conroy, returning after his last 45 in 2017 with a sharp double-sider flaunting his rhythmatic flair and deeper verbal intuitions. 'No Return' outlays crisp boom-bap drums wrapped in fluttering flute lines from Michael Sarason (of Say She She) and shimmering harp hallelujahs, courtesy of Cincinnati handywoman Rachel Miller. There's a distinct nod to Dorothy Ashby's work here, but reimagined for a 2025 palette; the flip leads the way to the 'Path Of Man', stripping the bark back to murkier moods, pulling from the darker corners of Conroy's upcoming full-length. He's come a long way since vacationing from the cutting lathe, representing himself in a new soulful and cinematic light, one which is yet raw and unpolished where it counts.

Then, Bay Area’s King Most flips a Disco acapella, infusing it with a unique blend of jazz and James Brown-style breakbeats.
