Review: Second time around for Julianna Barwick and Rafael Anton Irisarri's lauded contribution to the THESIS label's series of collaborative 10-inch singles. The 2017 set has been in high demand since it first appeared in stores, and with a limited number available outside the US for the first time we're expecting it to sell out in double-quick time. Musically, it's one of the most picturesque things that Irissari has been involved in. The untitled opener delivers a near perfect fusion of layered improvised vocals and wispy ambient electronics, while the track that follows brilliantly builds to a crescendo of Tangerine Dream style arpeggio melodies, densely layered textures and acid-esque motifs. The flipside opener is a more softly spun, deep ambient soundscape, while the EP's closing cut is sparkling, spacey and hugely alluring.

Aqua (18:18)
Review: Rambadu's self-titled label is young but already onto a good thing with a distinctly deep brand of techno. This time out the boss is back once more but in cahoots with Italian techno legend Claudio PRC. They cook up a trio of mind melters starting with 'Sai.' Warped lines menacingly roam about the stereo field over sparse kicks and deep abs. 'Matika' is just as paired back and atmospheric in a deep, dark way with slowly churning drums taking you deeper down the rabbit hole. 'Aqua' is a meatless blend of distant groans and wispy pads that keeps you in suspense.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Surface marks/scratches on the record & discolouration on sleeve otherwise in excellent working condition***

Japan's Fuller and UK-based Skelton collaborated on this album during lockdown, and as both were confined to their respective islands they used Judith Schalansky's 'Atlas of Remote Islands' as an inspirational text throughout the project. Exchanging cello, accordion and piano parts, they gradually created three slow moving, beautiful pieces of ambient that mix organic and synthetic studio textures and create a space for thought and reflection in the mind of the listener. Or, if that doesn't appeal, a chance to simply lose yourself and luxuriate in some deeply chilled tones.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Gravity Graffiti has been doing great things with its series of split 12"s already, but now the Italian label goes one better for its tenth release with this mighty double pack of heavy hitters. First up is the ever-untouchable Yoshinori Hayashi, who gets as straight up as he possibly could with the freaky house burner "Dissociative." Telephones is feeling particularly dubbed out and groovy on "Kalimbalimbo", while DB.Source and Riccardo Schiro take things strung out and textural on "Montevago". Dynamo Dreesen is in rave mode for the pepped up and delightfully weird "Reactivate", leaving the final side to Oyvind Morken & Kaman Leung's chugging "Tunnel Visjon" and the rubbery side swipes of Acidboychair's "The End (At Any Speed)".

Tail (1:33)
Review: Back in 1986, producer, vocalist and synthesizer wizard Koharu Kisaragi joined forces with Japanese electronic music legend Ryucihi Sakamoto for a collaborative 12" single. Now considered something of an off-kilter, head-in-the-clouds synth-pop classic by those of a Balearic persuasion, original copies regular change hands for large sums online. Hence this handy reissue from new label Lag. It begins with the mutant electronic funk of "Neo Plant" - think big '80s production, sampled noises, cascading synthesizer melodies, rubbery jazz-funk bass and decidedly post-punk vocals from Kisaragi, before moving on to the real standout highlight: a sublime chunk of folksy, piano-laden, vocal ambient entitled "Traumerei". Closer "Tail", a jaunty snippet containing traditional Sri Lankan instrumentation, is also superb.

Review: The smudged, dark and shadowy nature of the creepy artwork for this new 12" on TMN Trax is indicative of what to expect musically of this new label. It's a collab EP from Ones and Rasval with an appearance from The Metropolitan Narrative and remixes from Vril and Sleeparchive. 'Tau' is the deep and dubby roller that opens up with a grainy vibe and foggy atmosphere over muted drums, then 'Nebelgelb' gets more edgy with layers of subtle haunting pads and paranoid voices panning about the mix. Vril's contribution is a pacey, warm and lo-fi techno hypnotiser and Sleeparchive closes down with muted dub brilliance.

Review: Radart, the alias of Australian producer Dylan Batelic, makes his long-playing debut with an eclectic collection of electronic music. Compiled from works created between 2022 and 2024, it reveals an artist comfortable shifting between ambient textures, downtempo grooves and broken beats. The album opens with the atmospheric washes of 'Prelude' before moving into the driving rhythms of 'Attack'. 'Trip Planet' lives up to its name, a cosmic swirl of synths and beats. Elsewhere, '301' and 'Soil Test' delve into more experimental territory, while tracks like 'Welcome' and 'Wish' offer moments of unexpected melodic beauty. Navigating a range of electronic genres with confidence and flair, this is a strong statement of intent from an artist clearly comfortable exploring the outer reaches of electronic music.

Review: Rafet's You Are In The Embrace Of The History is a thought-provoking debut released on Research Records, where Daniel Rafet Grima delves into ambient and drone music with a sense of reverence for ancestral memory. Side-1 begins with the title track, a piece that carries an air of longing and introspection. The atmosphere is rich with layers of ambient sound and chamber music depths. The next song featuring DGrima, adds another dimension with its haunting, immersive quality. On Side-2, Iti's remix introduces a delicate piano melody and a subtle beat, infusing the original with a fresh, creative energy. In contrast, Kuniyuki Takahashi's remix takes a more abstract approach, deconstructing the track into an intriguing exploration of sound and texture. You Are In The Embrace Of The History is a meditative and deeply reflective work that resonates with both beauty and depth.

Review: Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement is the duo of multi-media artist Dominick Fernow (who you will also known as the man behind the Prurient alias) and his musical sparring partner Phillipe Hallais a.k.a. Low Jack. This new EP is a sister release to their superb ambient offering Flying Fish Ambience. Opener 'Metallic Rain' exists in the cosmos thanks to the waning pads and sci-fi details, but with a heavy, scuffed up kick drum powering it along below. 'Jellyfish Reproduce Black Magic' is a delightful fusion of slow motion drums and gorgeously cinematic ambient designs while 'Blue Ocean Floor' closes with 13 epic minutes of underwater dub, synth modulations and sonic experimentation.

Review: Rambadu was dropping one 12" a year and selling out each one since launch in 2019. Last year it missed for whatever reason but now returns with the boss man at the controls. This is deeply atmospheric techno to start with - 'En Viron' is awash with dubby chords and distant bird calls over smooth and elongated rhythms. 'Ruutan' has hissing lines and more deep and snaking drums and bass that soon melt the mind. 'Zaouia' is the closer, this time layering in some spangled synth notes that are drawn about the mix over another frictionless bottom end.

Review: The liquid metal on the cover of this new 12" from Hypnos is indicative of the music inside: molten techno bounced in dub and here to seep into your every fibre. Rambadu is the artist behind it and 'Indra' opens in the most deep and atmospheric fashion, with sparse and smeared synths disappearing off to an infinite horizon over rolling and rolling drums. It's mood music of the highest order. 'Jala' is a hugely deft and delicate mix of super muted drums and more grading, arching pads. Economical but powerful stuff.

Review: Deep techno lovers Hypnus have been showcasing the work of Paul Roeleveld aka Rambadu for some time. Only back in 2021 was he a newcomer with a sound that belied that status and now a few years on he has kept impressing. 'Yatra' is slow and deep, menacing and full of paranoia as snaking synths slithering along a desolate landscape. 'Nadi' has a dubby undercurrent and percolating grooves that gurgle and spit like molten lava, and 'Reis' is utterly stripped back to deep space pulses and a subtle, barely-there rhythm that is full of suspense. 'Setu' shuts down with more unsettling and otherworldly deepness and alien sound designs.

Review: If you've ever been luck enough to attend the Freerotation music festival than plenty about this remix package will make sense. Not least the interpretation by event co-founder and modular synth hero Steevio, here delivering a remix on vinyl for the first time. Bringing in elements of jazz, ambient, field recordings, dub, house music and - albeit barely audible - subtle shades of tech, it's a sophisticated package that fully buys into the theory of electronic sounds being a form of high art. Running the gamut from the stepping, poised but decidedly free spirited 'Lucid' and Deadbeat's tense, drone-y take on'Sam Gimignano', to the lush keys and white noise of Andrea Cicheki's redo of 'Siegfried 2.0' and Dr Nojoke's beautifully blissed out smoky house, it's as dense as it is accomplished.

Review: After four years of work fusing acoustic and electronic sound worlds, Rand finally unveiled the fruits of their labours with Peripherie. The duo of concert pianist Jan Gerdes and minimal techno producer Dr. Nojoke have cooked up urban and sensitive music for piano and electronics that was all recorded live with no overdubs back in 2019 at Berlin's Chez-Cherie Studios. It was made across three pianos with improvisation at the heart of the process. It's a great collision of worlds, from dark and intense pieces of pulsing techno to more light and hopeful and empty soundscapes that perfectly blur the edges between the different tools used. Fans of Nils Frahm, Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto will enjoy digging into this one.

Now she returns (well, the album was recorded last year but only now makes it to vinyl) with Recounting: Live From Studio S2, recorded live in the Polish radio studio it is named after. It is another mesmerising performance from her in which she wanted to use "not only an upright piano, but also a grand piano" as well as various other keys such as a Prophet 08 synthesizer and a Roland stage piano. There is plenty of the sound of the room itself also included in this most captivating album.

If We Never Try (SW Amnesia interpretation)
Review: Kalahari Oyster Cult have been thumbing through their back catalogue and return to a past gem for some renewed attention. 2017 saw the release of Erell Ranson's Hand in Hand, a quintet of beautifully crafted machine music. Two tracks have been chosen from the EP and remixed with stunning results.

First up is Dj Normal 4's "Sealife Safari MixX" of "If We Never Try." The sweet, shimmering melody of the original, the bubbling bass and subtle notes, are transformed in this remake. Silvery chords morph into bold and daring new forms under the tutelage of Tim Schumacher, neon streaked patterns coalescing with broken and cracked percussion for a superbly uplifting piece.

Pariah follows with his rework of "Hand in Hand." A deep dreamscape intricately woven with heady notes, birdsong and endless possibilities.

The final odyssey comes care of SW (Stefan Wust) of SUED fame. The Berlin based musician delivers his reimagined idea of "If We Never Try" with Ranson's version being washed over by lapping lines and gentle currents to create a smooth rounded finale. A trio of unique perspectives from three true talents of electronic music.

Out.Lier's 'Track 2' is another one cast adrift on deepest space with smeared pads and floating aural details suspending you in mid air. Jo Johnson's cascading synth motifs are pure and innocent and cathartic and Romanticise The World's 'Track 4' is mellifluous and hopeful.

Review: Regis and Female's Againstnature album from 2000 gets the full reissue treatment here by Berlin label, Tresor. Released under their given names Karl O'Connor and Peter Sutton, the record is a noted zenith of the Birmingham techno scene of the era. It has had a major influence on the music that was released in the years after and has here been remastered for a fresh double vinyl pack. As well as the original sounds, there is also 'Theme From Streetwalke,' a track that was previously released on a Tresor compilation. The tracks are heavy but relatively stripped back. They're packed with texture and atmosphere and never less than hugely compelling.

Review: The third trip from the Air Miles camp is one filled with dreamy breakbeat bliss. 'Gondwana At Noon' is a floaty light track with its head firmly in the clouds as twinkling keys and angelic vocals drift by up top. Pure post-rave comedown lushness, it then gets suitably mashed up for more peak time action, firstly by Jeigo. This time the drums hit harder, with icy hi hats and loopy snares all tumbling in freefall. Nathan Micay brings some more old school video game sound effects and Mollystrips it back to a long legged deep house delight. This is tender techno for E-ed up dance floors.

Review: We at Juno HQ originally coined what is now known as the 'grey area', a sub-genre which has flourished in recent years in the post-Autonomic idiom of drum and bass, popularised by groundbreaking underground Berlin imprints such as Samurai Horo, Hidden Hawaii and of course the mysterious Weevil Neighbourhood. Repetition/Distract is Felix Hoeck aka Felix K, who originally released Salles Des Perdus ?in 2012 and it now gets a much needed repress. When you consider more recent releases on the label by the likes of SPR (with his black metal/dark ambient crossover) as well as Steven Porter's Katsunori Sawa who delivered last year's brutal Secret Of Silence LP, you can really trace back the original vision of the label through this EP with its sombre, textured noise experiments reminiscent of early Cold Meat Industries.
