Asiko (In A Silent Mix) (12" in die-cut sleeve) (1 per customer)
Cat: DKMNTL10YEARS10 1. Rel: 27 Mar 18
  1. Asiko (In A Silent Mix) (Ricardo Villalobos remix - part 1) (15:31)
  2. Asiko (In A Silent Mix) (Ricardo Villalobos remix - part 2) (13:42)
Review: Tony Allen's "Asiko", the leading tune on his 1999 LP Black Voices, has been a favourite of our regardless of impeding remixes, reworks, or reissues. It's still a pinnacle of the future jazz movement, blowing everything else out the water in the process. Rightfully, Holland's Dekmantel have decided to resurrect its timeless qualities and to give German-Chilean legend Ricardo Villalobos the tools to deliver some reinterpretations. Thanks to Honest Jon's Records, the two have already worked together, and Villalobos' ritualistic percussion has proven to work wonders next to Allen's legendary drumming and arrangmements. In short, it's as if they were made for each other - two ends of the spectrum that merge beautifully. The firs remix is moody, funky, and absolutely lit, banging out hypnotic drums over deep bass and glitch sonics, while the second part strips the beats out in favour of more wide-eyed melodics, infused with a futuristic style of jazz that is prone to opening minds. Warmly recommended.

Ring Center (hand-stamped 12'')
Cat: EXT 004. Rel: 18 Sep 19
  1. DJ Gonzo & Dr Yes - "Ring Center" (6:17)
  2. Rough Thought - "Puneto" (6:44)
Review: No-nonsense German label EXT has gone back to basics here, delivering their first split-artist EP since 2016. DJ Gonzo and Dr Yes handle side A, unfurling a tactile but wonky techno jack-track ("Ring Center") full of jaunty, all action synth-bass, bleeping computer electronics, fluttering synth riffs and clanking drum machine beats that doff a cap to both Chicago jack and Motor City futurism. Rough Thought takes over on side B, charging through a bustling combination of rising and falling intergalactic synth lines, deep space chords, surging arpeggio bass and a drum track so sweaty that it could have been laid down by a drummer who has just downed four cans of the world's most repulsive energy drink.

  1. Riciar Ghir - "Cargo" (6:19)

  3. Robotalco - "No More Disco" (4:51)
  4. Klubbhuset - "SS0817" (6:11)
Review: The high grade, leftfield approach to house music Lyssna have set out as their MO continues in fine style on this new Colours series, starting with the Yellow EP and a strong cast of characters from the outer reaches. Riciar Ghir opens up proceedings with the tumbling deep house of "Cargo", making the keys dance with distinction and injection a subby rumble where it counts. Minimal Afrika follow that up with a percussive tryst entitled "Drakma Queen" that blossoms into a sumptuous ambient excursion. Robotalco takes a very different approach with some classically pumping sample-powered house music to shake feel-good fists to, and then Klubbhuset finishes up with an impassioned romp through peak time disco licks for the peak of the night.

  4. Rotty - "Creeper" (7:37)
Review: Following up some great releases in recent times by tech house heroes such as Mihai Popoviciu, Ryan Nicholls and Dudley Strangeways, the ever reliable Inermu Wax have roped in an all star cast of young guns on their latest various artists EP. Guy Johnson kicks things off with the trippy afterhours minimal-funk of "Close", while Revivis finishes off the A side in style with the swing-fuelled groover "My Bit". On the flip, Kreutziger channels that classic Cab Drivers vibe of old on "Duizend Gele" and finally Rotty delivers some sensual deep house for those heads-down moments on "Creeper". All killer, no filler on this one!

  1. Love Letters From Sicily (9:33)
  2. Hope (John Digweed & Nick Muir remix) (7:36)
Review: Originally featured on their celebratory XV compilation back in 2017, Berlin clubbing institution Watergate have reissued one of the the standout tracks here by Hamburger Matthias Meyer and Berlin's Sebastian Waack aka Ryan Davis. The track "Hope" in its original form was a lush and hypnotic drifter, geared for some life-affirming moments on the dancefloor. The rework featured here by the legendary John Digweed takes the track into much more adrenalised and entrancing territory, with its trance arpeggios and tight rhythm arrangement making for great dancefloor dynamics - but the breathtaking orchestral arrangements of the original are left intact. New track "Love Letters From Sicily" could equally have had a home on All Day I Dream - its ethereal daydream qualities make it perfect for a Sunday afternoon rooftop party downtown.

  4. Priku - "Joseph" (8:02)
Review: Bucharest's vinyl-only imprint, Dilated Records, joins Romania's contemporary minimal scene, a particular variation of the genre that succeeds in merging the analogue and digital worlds together. Like a high-end DSLR, this music is warm and cold at the same time, carrying the weight of analogue beats together with a sharper, HD sort of aesthetic to the melodies. Their fourth VA comp is nothing but deep, dark minimal bass, featuring Nea Marin, Negru & Narcis, Livio & Roby, and Pirku, who all proceed to slam down some fat-ass grooves for one thing only - the dancefloor. Smash this out, son - it'll work every time...

Cat: MOSAIC 037. Rel: 30 Apr 18
  1. Sullric (10:05)
  2. Sullric (Deeper dub) (12:09)
Review: In what is surely an unexpected collaboration in the field of house and techno, Mosaic mastermind Steve O'Sullivan teams up with Ricardo Villalobos for a hypnotic trip through minimal landscapes that plays to both of their strengths. The rock-solid rhythm of "Sullric" surely belongs to O'Sullivan while the rich, subtle layers of samples, tones and other such sonic decorations come straight from the Villalobos school of production. The two mixes on this 12" only have minor differences - whichever side you drop things will get considerably deeper than they were previously. Of such ingredients are classy, immersive techno joints made.

  1. Give Up The Ghost (Thriller Houseghost remix)
  2. Codex (Illum Sphere remix)
  3. Little By Little (Shed remix)
Review: The fourth King of Limbs remix 12" sees headline duties going to Actress and Lukid under the Thriller moniker. Their remix of "Give Up The Ghost" takes the pastoral tone of the largely acoustic original and puts the ghost firmly in the machine, as Yorke's vocals are stretched out over a spiraling background of compression and synthetic interference, held together with only a tight kick. Shed's remix of "Little by Little" begins with whirring clockwork percussion over a looping guitar line, and a deep sub-bass, stretching its gloomy tension out over three minutes before finally breaking into a trippy 2-step death rattle. It's the Illum Sphere remix of Codex that really impresses however - avoiding the dancefloor route, the young producer takes the most gut-wrenching vocal moment from the track and turns it into a warm analogue hymn that takes the original and elevates it to new heights.

  3. Rampa & WhoMadeWho - "Tell Me Are We" (6:56)
  4. Lavender Boogie (7:20)
Review: Keinemusik co-founder Gregor Sutterlin AKA Rampa is the latest addition to the Innervisions roster. His debut EP for the imprint is dancefloor-friendly and for the most part club ready, but also slightly more experimental and off-kilter in ethos than you'd perhaps expect from Ame and Dixon's long-running label. Check first the non-stop A-side suite of tracks, where the oddball electronics and effects-laden looped vocals of "79249 (Intro)" seamlessly segues into the ghostly lead lines, thrusting arpeggio bass, creepy effects and locked-in techno drums of "They Will". Radiohead-influenced vocal number "Tell Me Are We" is a glassy-eyed outsider tech-house collaboration with WhoMadeWho, while "Lavender Boogie" is a richly percussive affair rich in ice cream van chimes, dense African percussion and hushed tech-house tones.

  4. Nothing To Do With Me (4:47)
Review: 2019 is proving to be a busy year for French deep techno producer Erell Ranson. With the Artificial Paradise 12" freshly dropped on Distant Worlds, he also steps up to Subconscious Algorithms to join Derek Carr and Norken in exploring genuinely interesting avenues of machine soul. There's an electro flavour to "Sensitive Person", and a subtle house pulse to "Who You Are & Who You Want To Be," while "Unthinkable Destiny" snaps with a sharply rendered rhythm underneath illustrious synth shapes. "Nothing To Do With Me" finishes the EP in a consistent style, making this a complete package with four refined jams for those who like their techno to hit in the solar plexus.
