Review: Leeds is a city that has always primarily been known for its house scene, but Nathan Alexander is an ever more vital talent who is delving deep into futuristic techno. After a fine outing on Drum Workouts late last year, he's now back on NIX with a shadowy, body-moving three-tracker. Opener 'Language' sets the tone with sharp stabs and a moody tension that gets the space-trip underway. 'Pulsewidth' raises the energy with heavy low-end and warped textures, glitchy stabs and funny, swinging drums. The title track 'Skin' stretches into tribal rhythms, hypnotic vocal snippets, and deep filter sweeps and taps into that liminal space where reality slips. All in all, these are seriously punchy but sensual and immersive late-night weapons.

Review: This new 12" from Glaswegian producer Harvey McKay sees him reworking Daniel Avery's 'Drone Logic' into a driving, big-room missile i and it absolutely slaps. Upping the tempo and leaning into a more percussive framework, McKay doesn't just touch up the original's swirling psychedelia, he rebuilds it for peak-time pressure. The acid line is still there, twisted and stretched, but now it rides atop galloping drums, shimmering hi-hats and the kind of pneumatic swing that's become McKay's signature. It's a brand new release on Phantasy, pressed in a limited run of 500 and already a fixture in the sets of Avery, McKay and Erol Alkan. The sound is somewhere between soulful techno and heads-down warehouse hypnosis i powerful without being punishing. What's clever is how it stays true to the hazy mood of the source, but flips it into something entirely more immediate. As a one-sided 12" it's a bold statement, but one that's easy to understand: it only needs one track when it hits this hard. Built for high ceilings, smoke machines and stretched-out moments mid-set, this is an edit that earns its hype. A slow-burn classic reborn as a proper dancefloor weapon.

Wilt's 'Beoyon' has lovely gloppy drums and bass looping under harmonic chords - it's simple but effective. Hermit gets more full-bodied with his textured 'Who Dunnit' and DOTT strips it back to bumping drum track workouts on 'Twitching Softly.' There is more irresistible bounce to Lucho's 'Mesh', Artphorm layers in some old school pianos to 'Daown' and HATT D shuts down with maybe the best of the lot, 'Contrasts In Life,' which is a broken beat, analogue sound with celestial energy.

'Like A Spring' has dark sub-bass borrowed from 90s jungle. It's vast, humid and throbbing beneath snatched vocal yelps that land a freak sense of tension as the chunky techno drums bounce. Tribal touches and hints of melodic colour drive later on to keep it fresh. Review: The sign of a truly great artist is that you can put on one of their records from some 15 years ago, as well as one out next week, and not tell which is which. Mr Pittman is one of those - a Detroit flag bearer with a raw, otherworldly take on house and techno that always sounds futuristic. 'The Midwest Advocates Part One' first dropped back in 2007 and is being repressed now and is just as good as ever with ramshackle and dusty grooves, wonky synths and eerie textures all getting you into a trance and keeping you there. Both cuts on this are standouts in his impressive discography.

The groove works just beneath the surface, subtle but with a pulse strong enough to carry a floor. Side-B digs in even further. 'Two Letters' builds around percussive momentum and clipped patterns, keeping everything tightly wound. Then 'Hit & Run' lands with a different kind of pressure. There's a ghostly melodic thread running through its stripped-down warehouse rhythms, nodding to early underground techno but with a modern polish. It's lean, effective and full of character.

Review: "Yeah, as I gaze upon you, I am overwhelmed by the fact that beauty is an insufficient phrase to describe you. You are the definition of pure perfection, and though many have tried and failed to get close to you, I run that walk into the flame." Echoing the seductive vocal soliloquies heard overlaid in much deep Chicago house - the work of the late Paul Johnson springs to mind - K' Alexi Shelby marks a terrific introduction to this new V/A from Cod3 QR. The label was long the subject of much speculative chinstroking; only in recent years was it revealed to be the brainchild of Laurent Garnier and Oliver Way. Here on this latest output from the label, we hear a mix of technical and tribal moods traverse across a mostly slow-burner sensibility, pinnacling on DJ Bone's bosomy chord viber 'DD'.

Review: There's a real sense of purpose running through these three tracks, like they were made for a distant world's warehouse party lit by strobe lights and swirling dust. With over ten years releasing music and up to more than 15 EP's, this producer is collecting an impressive catalogue of quality techno music. Here, the A-side opens with 'Undisclosed', a tightly wound piece of sci-fi techno that gleams with a polished edge. It flirts with trance without fully giving in, layering crisp percussion and sleek synth work. 'Serotonin Level' dives deeper into that interplanetary mood. Rooted in techno but smeared with a touch of psychedelic color, the track floats like a spacecraft sliding through static. On the 2nd side, 'Find Yourself' brings the most physical energy. The low-end rolls forward with serious weight while the top end keeps things agile. It's a catchy conclusion to this futuristic, slick and exciting EP.

Spectrum Data Forces makes a blistering return to New Flesh, fifteen years after first touching down on the label with Exodus and Reencarnacion. 'Trinity' hears Jose Maria Moreno Vega reshuffle his arsenal, securing salted-earth electro and mecha-funk fallows across four tracks and one remix. 'form900' launches the A in full arpeggiated mode, its high-velocity synth lines and crunching drums lensed through SDF's retrofuturist sound-and-vision. Umwelt tears into the remix with typical ferocity, twerking analogue gnarls into a thumping, break-laced payload. On the flip, Moreno dons his C-System alias for 'Mind Restore', a pummelling techno cut streaked with eerie pads and flecks of IDM. '7H3 F4M1LY', finally, under the 7053M4R14 moniker, hears the whole crew round things off in wiry, off-grid style.

Review: Originally released in 1997, this underground gem gets a welcome reissue which suggests its impact hasn't dulled a bit. This is classic late-90s techno - from New York's Trebbi via an Italian label - at its most urgent and hypnotic, with enough character and raw drive to still hit hard in today's dancefloors. The title track, 'Control' is an Italian stomper through and through in a heady, trance-tinged banger with tight sequencing and a relentless pulse. It surges with a kind of controlled chaos with that turn-of-the-century energy where techno and trance often blurred lines. It sounds remarkably fresh with tight production and timeless structure. Side-B begins with 'Liquid Rain', diving into tribal techno territory with percussive swagger and a rolling, humid groove. It's a slow-burner, but one that pays off in deep, body-moving momentum. This reissue is more than nostalgia i it's a reminder of how enduring and versatile this sound can be.

Review: Ma?h is based in Berlin but makes occult techno inspired by Tikal, which is the ruin of an ancient Mayan city in Guatemala. He creates a sense of ancient ritual, tribalism, primaeval drums and otherworldly atmosphere across five fantastically evocative and escapist cuts here. They all go deep, with rubbery rhythms marbled with wordless vocals, chanting, eerie FX and absorbing mysticism that is all expertly done and hugely authentic. 'Acat' is a standout with its lolloping bass and tom-peppered beats, while 'Exorcismo' is more intense and heady. 'Caiman Ritual' is a humid and intense dub techno bumper, and it rounds out one of the most original EPs we've heard in ages.

Review: Detroit electro investigator MICRO4CE delivers a no-compromise double pack here across two EPs packed with nine tracks of raw electronic futurism and imaging. It is all rooted in classic Detroit electro and so-called hi-tech-funk so the sound channels early 80s influences like Nucleus and Mantronix while carving out its own cyborg-driven edge. 'Bass Situation 313' gets underway with swampy low ends and far-sighted chords then the likes of 'Borg Fightz' bring unrelenting coruscated drums and 'The Greed' is a more minimal sound with zippy synths and dehumanised vocals. This is seriously high-grade electro for heads who like gritty, futuristic and fearless sounds.

Review: Last year, the Hartnoll brothers gave their debut album, 1991's 'Green Album' (officially simply titled Orbital) the deluxe reissue treatment, offering an expanded quadruple CD edition backed with a detail-packed hardback book. They've now moved on to its similarly superb sequel (the 'Brown Album') from 1993. It gets a similar treatment, with a freshly remastered version of the original album (CD1) being joined by two discs of single versions, B-sides, remixes and 'Peel Session' cuts (including legendary Underworld and Psychik Warriors Ov Gaia takes on 'Lush 3', and the duo's own originally US-only extension of 'Impact'), and a fourth CD containing a previously unreleased live recording from the Limelight in New York in 1992. Oh, and a fine hardback book telling the story of the album. An early Christmas present for Orbital fans!

Review: Shed's Towards East was originally made for Berlin's Dussmann store back in 2022. It's a very personal project that now gets reissued by The Final Experiment and it sounds superb. The Polish producer weaves in plenty of foggy and lo-fi ambient pads into these tracks, whether they are beatless vignettes or more low-end driven soundscapes such as 'Absolute.' On 'In Between (Fur Geli), yearning strings and a lonely motif amongst walls of melancholic synth done and 'September 5th' is another hazy memory with nostalgic overtones and loads of frayed edges and buried melodic wisps. It's techno, but not as we know it.

Review: Remarkably accomplished techno minimalisms from Hamburg producer Stimming, who's been dazzling his contemporaries with his highly touching works since the early 2000s. The artist's latest full-length LP follows the precedent single 'Keys Don't Match', with its stammering sound design and abeyant, textural purities, which echo the slow-building sublimities of DJ Koze, Apparat or the Keinemusik crew. With the condensate vocals of Dominique Fricot heard throughout, this one-of-a-kind record reminds us not to take or use the hackneyed phrase "unique production style" too lightly. His really is. As it was with 'Keys Don't Match', which clinched a 15-year first relationship through the metaphor of mismatched keys, the entire record, from 'The Origin' to 'Feeding Seagulls', has us stimming with intrigue.

Review: Techno is a misunderstood thing. Big stages and even bigger drums pounding out relentless and often unthoughtful loops really isn't where the genre is as a whole. One of the most varied sounds in the dance spectrum, defining the canon has always been pretty hard and zeitgeist counts for more than strict rules of arrangement, tempo and composition. Sixty is just the reassurance heads will need then. While some might argue we're closer to electro than anything, for the most part anyway, perhaps no more so than in the detailed and glitchy warmth of 'Micfrk' by Gherat, let's not get pedantic. Largely broken and off-centre beats of the deep, emotive and patient kind from innovators like Patricia and Fasme, frenetic and intense staccato snares via Oh Mr Jones, rave-y, hardcore infused emotive bombs via Novel 23 and James Shinra.

Review: Rodhad brings Inox Traxx into the fold for the 16th WSNWG release - the result of a concentrated week in the studio this past January 2025. The outcome, 'Silvene', is a selene four-tracker indicating the strengths of each producer that nonetheless doesn't dare blur the other's fingerprints. Review: Charlotte De Witte puts a turbocharged spin on Jerome Isma-Ae's version of 'Hold That Sucker Down', originally released by The O.T. Quartet in 1994. Her remix keeps the trance-laced hook front and centre but strips it back, toughens the low end and steers it headfirst into warehouse territory. The Belgian producer leans into her signature pressure-cooked techno built for high-stakes sets; the euphoric swirl of the first is still there, but this one's leaner, louder, and itching to erupt. While the source material hails from the mid 90s, De Witte doesn't treat it as a relic, instead retooling it as a present-tense weapon. One foot in history, the other firmly planted on the gas.

Review: UK-New Zealand producer Keepsakes delivers five tracks that swing between industrial techno and pointed satire. 'Impossible (Eating the Sun)' opens with slamming percussion and detuned stabs, sequenced with just enough space to avoid overload. 'Bongo Funeral' leans on polyrhythmic loops and off-centre sample placement, loose but deliberate. 'Snacks at Waco' stretches into heavier territory, its low-end distortion tempered by clipped FX and a mid-tempo drag. 'Parasocially There for You' takes a slower approach, pulling from broken rhythm structures and uneasy atmospheres. Closer 'Nimby Orgy' brings the most cohesion, a locking groove underneath flickering edits and slow-filtered synth noise. The production remains dry and forceful, with few embellishments beyond structure and tone. It's not aiming for range i more a focused, well-tuned set of club tools with just enough personality to stand apart. Keepsakes keeps things loud, functional and self-aware, which feels like the point.

Review: First came 'Art Of Remembering' (2024) and we've now 'Petals', both full-scale techno blossomings from art-techno artiste, Rethe. A texturally attentive six-tracker, it finds the Wroclaw producer flex both his chord stab, atmos and transitional chops, lavishing pyschokinetic one-shots ('Poltergeist') and unwieldy transitions ('Drakkar') with a thick 4x4 gesso. Review: Italian producers Dino Sabatini and Maurizio Cascella team up for four deep techno excursions that favour atmosphere over propulsion. 'Pelias' opens with weighty low-end and filtered drone textures, slowly unfolding without any obvious peak. 'Medea' tightens the frame slightly, introducing syncopated pulses and subtle tonal shifts that never quite break the surface. On the flip, 'Euphemus' leans heavier into metallic percussion with hi-hats kept dry and tight against a background of detuned pads. 'Echion' ends the set in more submerged territory with barely-there synth lines circling a locked and low-BPM groove. The mythological track titles hint at narrative, but this is strictly functional material i controlled, minimal and mixed with club systems in mind. Not reinventing anything, but executed with clarity.
