Unseen Series II
Cat: AFUS 02. Rel: 01 Sep 21
  1. Pike (5:09)
  2. Arch (6:11)
  3. Unicos (4:21)
  4. Lynx (4:10)
  5. Lithanae (4:02)
Review: Madrid-based label Analogical Force is back to present the second chapter in the Unseen Series by a mysterious artist who like the title declares is quite literally Unknown. It's more of the underground quality you have come to expect on Unseen Series II: from the classic UK techno style of 'Pike' jam packed with breaks 'n' acid, to the snarling Reese madness of 'Unicos' being standout cuts on the A side. Turn over and you've got some deep Detroit inspired electro grooves like 'Lynx' and some mandatory sci-fi vibes to be heard on the distantly dystopian beats of 'Lithanae'.

Unseen Series I
Unseen Series I (12" + insert)
Cat: AFUS 01. Rel: 01 Feb 21
  1. Ospakr (4:45)
  2. Axiom12 (4:42)
  3. Herald (5:23)
  4. HRcLFR (3:37)
Review: Pervert's Analogical Force label and Furthur Electronix have teamed up to start off this new anonymous series, about which we know nothing other than it is high quality. The music is IDM infused electro with plenty of well crafted synth sounds bursting with energy and glistening with cosmic light. 'Ospakr' really twists and turns you inside out, while 'Axiom12' is a little more smooth and atmospheric. After the high speed and corrugated bass funk of 'Herald' comes closer 'HRcLFR' with its melancholic chords and frazzled bass undercurrent. These are useful tracks and kick off what is sure to be a fine series on this evidence.

  10. Strawberry Aero (5:17)
Review: Mike Paradinas presents his first album under the ?-Ziq moniker, or any other name, since 2013. Written and recorded while in lockdown in the Gower, one of Wales' most stunning locations, although the initial moments of Scurlage feel far removed from sweeping beaches and rolling hills, when you dig a little deeper you begin to hear at least some of the location in the tracks.

You do really need to listen properly though. There's so much here that feels plucked straight from the lost scenes of Blade Runner - a science fiction feast for the years built from synths and drum pads that can still work well on the dance floor. Nevertheless, its analogue in feel and there's a sense not just of light and dark but past and present, nostalgia and hope for the future.

  8. Room (5:27)
Review: Relentless bass squelches come by way of modular play on Patricia's (Max Ravitz') 'Blue Ridge', the producer's second album for Spanish acid-IDM visionaries Analogical Force. No concept is needed for this one, as Ravitz' hardware-centric talent is enough to carry it alone, from the snapping drum exoskeletons of 'Husk' to the LP's ambient neurogeist and closer, 'Room'. Watch out for this one's limited blue LP release.

Balance (12")
Cat: AF 039. Rel: 12 Oct 21
  1. Both Of You (6:16)
  2. Outer (4:58)
  3. Easy Love (6:02)
  4. Infected (6:17)
Review: Analogical Force sign up Promising Youngster for a debut release that covers plenty of ground on four fine tracks. It's cosmic and bumping electro on the opener 'Both Of You,' with its far-sighted chords and shimmering synth work. 'Outer' slows right down, with reflective groove and twitchy pads encouraging you to go in on yourself. It's back to upbeat electro-tinged grooves on the forward looking 'Easy Love' and 'Infected' then rounds out with another pensive mix of beats and synths that take you to the stars. Not one of these pays heed to tradition, with all four cuts breaking plenty of stylistic rules in fine fashion.

  10. Dropped (4:33)
Review: We might be into a New Year, but still electro remains one of the most dominate sounds in the underground. Analogical Force kick off their campaign for 2021 with a new double 12" from RTR that reaches far and wide. It opens with a fascinating fusion of jungle and electro that is lit up with pixelate melodies and then take sin ambient, liquid electro funk and flurries of IDM drums that leave you breathless. It's an adventurous and original record that peaks many times over, but 'S80' and its rubbery bassline is a standout for us.
