Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing to corner of outer sleeve but otherwise in excellent condition***
The Breathtaking Blue was very much the difficult third from Alphaville. Garnering props and mainstream success for their massive pop debut, Forever Young (which held smash singles in the still-famous title track and 'Big In Japan') the curious New Romantic-goth-pop stars stumbled with the follow up, Afternoons In Utopia, meaning by the time this one arrived the fickle and fast moving music scene had moved on. Their loss.
While not quite the genre defining hidden gem, LP three comes with some very serious contenders for career highlights. 'She Fades Away' takes us on a swaggered, almost Western feeling ride through dark synth pop, 'The Mysteries of Love' could be a forgotten A-Ha or Tiers For Fears demo, while 'Heaven or Hell' brings croonerism and jazz to the table.
