Review: Pilotwings' Louis E Bola sets out on a brand new expedition with this stunning new odyssey Eiger Drums Propaganda. With a crew ranging from Arthur Tempo to Sound Of Duty Free via Akino Karma, the journey is as turbulent as it is singular. The ambient washes and faux demonism of "Climb", the vital twinkles of "Le Chien Est Parti", the beastly swampy textures of "Summit" and the cascading chimes and twangs of the dreamy finale "La Fin Non-Triste" all comprise to create an immersive, weird and beguiling trip. Review: Andrea Noce aka Eva Geist is back with his second album to date, and what clearly makes for a magical companion to 2016's comparatively murkier Aquator System cassette. Noce returns via Sascha Mambo's macadam Mambo imprint, unleashing a flurry of outsider sonics and no-wave vibes thanks to this new Desfan LP. The nine tracks glide with pace and style, ranging form the docile bleeps and pseudo beats of tunes like "Electronic Tribalism" to relatively more 'dance-friendly' tunes like "Prologo" or "Nigredo". It's hard to put our finger on what makes Noce's music so singular, but it must have something to do with the artist's fascination with the Levant - a distant yet perceptible vibe that seeps through all of these tunes.

Review: Having previously impressed with a lovingly crafted and wildly eccentric 7" single, Jin-Cromanyon (AKA Japanese producer Hidetaka Horie) returns to Macadam Mabo with a much-anticipated debut album in tow. It's a thrillingly lo-fi, off-kilter and DIY style affair, with the producer adding his own impassioned, new wave style vocals to backing tracks rich in cheap drum machine hits and quirky synthesizer melodies. Interestingly, this retro-futurist take on J-pop contains many musical references to both Chicago acid house and Italo-disco, but never really sounds like either of these lauded dancefloor styles. Instead, Horie has created something totally unique and utterly charming.

Review: Zmatsutsi's Balearic Social Recordings-released debut, 2016's Mogadishu EP, was a hazy and psychedelic trip into druggy, slo-mo disco territory. Hooked Up, the first Zmatsutsi release since, is similarly inclined. Built around head-nodding drum machine rhythms, undulating arpeggio lines, trippy synthesizer motifs and breathy, poetic spoken word vocals, it's a hugely atmospheric and enjoyable affair. There are occasional forays into more boogie-inspired territory, but even these outings tend towards the throbbing, pulsating and hypnotic. Of course, we expect little less from the inspired Macadam Mambo label, but we were still surprised by the dizzyingly high quality threshold throughout.
