10 (Calming Rain For Deep Sleep edit) (5:29)
4 (A Sign Of True Friendship mix) (3:53)
Bonus (2:01)
Review: Back in 2017, mystery producer The Ambientist offered up two thrillingly retro-futurist EPs that effortlessly joined the dots between ambient, IDM, proto-jungle, ambient techno and dream house. Here, he or she offers up a selection of reworks of tracks from those now sought-after EPs. A-side "10 (Calming Rain For Deep Sleep Edit)" is wonderful: a slow-burn, deep ambient techno number rich in ghostly chords and hushed spoken word samples that reminded us of Biosphere's early work. Over on the flip, label stalwart Rising Sun re-imagines "4 (A Sign Of True Friendship Mix)" as a soul-flecked slab of gently pulsing breakbeat house that's deeper than a Scottish loch and twice as picturesque. "Bonus", a two-minute shuffle through hazy, breakbeat-fired deep house grooves, is also solid.

Aeon Fusion I (2016 Stretched edit)
Evocation Part II (remastered)
Review: The UK's newly inaugurated Future Primitive label holds a candle to its name by unearthing two Leo Anibaldi productions from deep within the Roman's voluminous back catalogue. The two-track 12" debut sees Anibaldi provide the label with a contemporary 'Stretched Edit' of 1994 production "Fusion 1", a cut lifted from the Aeon EP originally released on the now defunct Italian label, ACV. Future Primitive has also given ambient number "Evocation Part II" a full remaster and B-side privileges, honouring an esoteric production from Anibaldi's Void LP that was originally released on Aphex Twin's Rephlex label in 1996.

Cat: ZCKR 08. Rel: 20 Nov 13
Track 1
Track 2
Track 3
Review: With the anonymous Anom Vitruv's recent Demos EP for Going Good still on heavy rotation here at Juno HQ, the producer makes a swift return on the German ZCKR label. Deftly showcasing the producer's talents for immersive soundscapes and weighty techno of the dub-leaning variety, the "AI" track of this Untitled EP sees distorted vocals and claustrophobic atmospherics give way to weighty swung beats and sweeping synthetic vistas, something almost like Bee Mask collaborating with Andy Stott. On the flip, "BI" somehow combines the tones of '90s ambient with scorched industrial noise narrated by a sinister vocal. "BII" is an even more extreme trip through texture, where deathly drums and found sound stalk a desolate wasteland of analogue sound. Highly recommended to fans of Blackest Ever Black's output - this is some next level stuff from Anom Vitruv.

Dream Uncreates The Land
Take Me To The Birds (For A)
Metra Train Chicago 1000x
Review: Silent Season tap up Antenes for a rare 12", building on the sizable impact her last and only release on L.I.E.S. had back in 2015. Here we get three trips into dark, evocative techno territory as you would expect to find on Silent Season, leading in with the doom-laden march of "Dream Uncreates The Land". "Take Me To The Birds (For A)" ditches the drums and heads straight into the most delicate and stirring of ambient pieces, while "Metra Train Chicago 1000x" makes use of field recordings and processed static to make for an even more immersive listening experience. This is a daring release that eschews the need for functionality to take the listener somewhere else entirely.

ASC - "The Noncolour Entity"
Vaccine - "Irradiate"
Sam KDC - "Lovesick"
ASC & Synth Sense - "Glimpse"
Review: Limited to a pressing of just 250 (with a promise of no represses) this clear vinyl release is special in every sense. Powered by some of the most exciting names on the fringes of bass and electronica; each of the four cuts strut with raw melodic futurism. "The Noncolour Entity" rumbles with a dubby techno groove a la Funk D'Void. "Irradiate" comes with an almost Bonobo-like dreaminess while "Lovesick" shakes and shudders with a sub-soaked groove and bright, bold swinging breakbeats. "Glimpse" closes the show on a timeless analogue note. Coming on strong like an old Guy Called Gerald record, it's all synths and classic electro breakbeats. Outstanding.

Review: Grand River's always-illuminating One Instrument label reawakens with a new album from Martin Sander and Michel Isorinne's Bandhagens Musikforening project. Having previously appeared on Northern Electronics and Semantica, now these two advanced synthesists place all their attention on a select few studio pieces to see how far they can take them. First up is the Roland System 100, which affords them plenty of tonal possibilities for the pulsing, kinetic 'Nedgravd I Naturen'. With the Yamaha DX-7 they create a towering ambient piece of FM synthesis, while the Roland SH-101 gets applied to a dense and detailed slice of obtuse leftfield techno. The Oberheim Matrix 6R becomes a vehicle for cinematic melancholy, and the Waldorf Microwave teases out an immersive swirl of ambience as you might well expect from the One Instrument series.

With previous releases on top labels like CLR, Kombination Research and Cocoon - you can trust this veteran A.M. specialist. From the glacial and cavernous "Clouds" and the introspective dub of "Contour" nailing that Basic Channel vibe of old. On the flip, we get two versions of "Zenstory". The first (prelude) being a chilling ambient version while the second is a stripped back epic that builds full of tension and suspense throughout.

The five track EP contains masterful ambient pieces with a Detroit/Chicago analog house vibe bringing a warm and psychedelic feel. He joins the label's third release with a brilliant chill-out EP entitled 'The Peninsula', united by another Detroit legend Luke Hess, bringing his traditional 303 upbeat sound remixing 'Begin Again'. Lionsong (Mica Levi Kareokieijd remix) (8:33)
Review: Off the back of her new Vulnicura LP, Bjork has already received the remix treatment from a number of artists, namely Lotic, Untold, and now Mica Levi. Unlike many of the other commissions, Mica's self-styled Kareokieijd transformation of "Lionsong" takes a much darker path, and can essentially be seen as an electro acoustic cover version. The track is vast and cinematic, cerebral and eye-opening, where strings gather momentum only to be engulfed in a sea of deep, luscious atmospherics. A fitting remix to Bjork's inimitable style.

Color Me (Telefon Tel Aviv remix) (5:19)
Review: Bochum Welt's 2019 album "Seafire" was arguably one of the strongest full-length sets that Central Processing Unit has released to date, which given the Sheffield-based label's track record is high praise indeed. This EP offers fresh interpretations of some of the album's many highlights. First up is a perfectly pitched radio edit of "More Light" a gorgeous slice of IDM bliss that recalls the halcyon days of Boards of Canada, which is later given a slightly chunkier - but no less beautiful - treatment by EOD and a bustling, club-ready electro re-fix, complete with Yorkshire bleeps, by veteran DJ/producer James Zabeila. Elsewhere, the ambient mix of "G1" is as luscious and blissful as you'd expect, while Teflon Tel Aviv's revision of "Color Me" is opaque, sun-kissed and more than a little spaced-out.

Attraction
Review: The interesting cross pollination of sounds and ideas currently gestating around the Avian and Mira camps throws up its most intriguing proposition yet in Burma Camp. This is the newly adopted alias of Nicholas Wood, frontman of The KVB, a duo recently referred to as "the son and daughter of reverb" and one of this year's breakthrough acts. Wood has previous form with Mira, having collaborated with Ventress on his recent turn as Worn, and Repulsion finds him sinking deep into the realm of droning industrial delay across three experimental excursions. The influence of Downward boss Regis is apparent throughout, with the vicious, industrial techno grot of "Isa" standing out.

Review: Wow! Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti return with the first tangible Carter Tutti material in some fifteen years and they demonstrate to be fully capable of manipulating monolithic sounds on these rather dashing looking Coolican 10". Last seen working with Factory Floor's Nik Void for Mute and reimaging the seminal Desertshore album by Nico, the UK industrial royalty signal their return to the universally known Carter Tutti project with two versions of one track seemingly inspired by the name of the metal lampshade used by Delia Derbyshire in her music-making. Both these versions are fine exercises in lurching, industrial body music and make for a welcome addition to their respected canon.

From the sitar lilting on "Meandering River" to the pattering chimes of 'PEsta Malam', this is an album brimming with real-world beauty even as it glides through synthetically sculpted spaces. Inoue's touch is patient and poised, but it's certainly no background environmental music. Powered by purposeful percussion and offering a spectrum of moods for your contemplation and delectation, Suburban Ethnology Vol 1 is a beautifully rendered EP once again affirming Inoue's spellbinding craft as a multifaceted artist.

Some Kind Of Strange
A Space Age Function
September
Review: This being only the second Sequencias release of the year does confirm the NYC techno outpost has been somewhat quieter than usual, but their commitment to working with quality artists remains undimmed. Dcantu is of course Nation and Creme regular D'Marc Cantu, and the Ann Arbor native is no stranger to Sequencias having featured twice on the label before. Some Kind Of Strange is however Cantu's first full 12" for the label and granted the space, the artist has elected to lay down a pleasing range of sounds across the three tracks. The title track is Cantu weaving a spell of high octane cosmic techno from his vast array of machinery, whilst "A Space Age Function" dips into the same sort of star gazing rave Legowelt has been focussing on of late. A complete switch in mood is offered on final track "September", a sprawling beatless production that could easily be mistaken for Carpenter and Howarth in their pomp.

This time he returns to his own BLKRTZ imprint with a new EP, two beautiful sound sculptures from his mind to yours. "Walls & Dimensions I A" gathers a dusty drone storm and unleashes it with grace over huge filter sweeps and sparse soundscapes, while "Walls & Dimensions I B" feels like tamer sibling, or better, the calm after the storm. Check both because these are gorgeous pieces of abstraction.

Starting out with the morose and rolling dub textures of "Preface de 1977" and the the woozy heroin house of "(Le) mythe" on the A side. He first came to our attention with the Transcendental Numbers ep on Jamal Moss' Mathematics label in 2012 and we've waited on each release ever since, including last year's huge Future Shock Disco ep (a collaboration with Jamal himself). Review: Although the Lovers Rock label run by Daniel Martin McCormick - better known as Ital - has previously been an output for his own music, this year see the label expand operations with records from other artists. Although a future collaborative 12? between Ital and Mutual Dreaming's Aurora Halal has also been promised, the label first looks to the music of Earthen Sea, the musical project of San Francisco artist Jacob Long, who previously performed alongside Martin-McCormick as part of Mi Ami. Although Long played bass as part of Mi Ami, the Earthen Sea project - which has released a number of cassettes since 2003 - sees him utilise various electronic textures to create his own immersive style of ambient music, which takes both a rhythmic and beatless approach incorporating elements of dub techno, drone and minimalist composition.

Review: This sixth release from Glasgow's purveyors of the finest techno, All Caps, was first announced back in April with Ekranoplan presented as a mysterious production unit with a fascination for low-flying aircraft. It was more recently revealed that Ekranoplan is the work of Julio Bashmore and Kowton, and listening to the four tracks that make up Wing-In-Surface-Effect, it makes sense for the pair to present them under this new name. The looped lounge of "One Metre Up", rolling percussion of "Coil" and flotation tank dubstep of "Star Frog" all demonstrate Bashmore and Kowton clearly have a keen studio understanding. More please All Caps!

Review: After first emerging with his cosmic electro project back in 2009, King Britt is back on Hyperdub after last year's The Phoenix album with a short but sweet collection of blissed out beat-scuffing business. "Sonic Six" is a true heavens-scraper with its dense layers of broken beats and wistful key lines, loaded with emotive intent and crushing bass. "Faith" meanwhile takes the scenic route through twinkling arpeggios and swooping pads over a blissful 12 minutes, before "Past" meanders into some strange soundtrack-ready excursions of the highest calibre. It's another stark and surprising artistic statement from one of Britt's most adventurous aliases, and it sits just right on Hyperdub.

It's Up There (Blondes mix)
Then It's White (Mohn mix)
Review: Kompakt revisit the material from The Field's masterful third album Looping State Of Mind with the first of several mooted remix packages - and the bar has truly been set with their chosen artists here. Canadian duo Junior Boys are handed the unenviable task of stamping their own stylistic authority on the album's title track and ten minute centre piece - and they pull it off with aplomb. The originals' loping, perma droning refrain is still intact, but Greenspan & Didemus add all manner of opulent synth spirals and crunchy beat programming that gives the track a hint of primitive DIY electronics, while the rippling, almost gaseous bassline drives the track forward in unpredictable fashion. On the flip, RVNG Intl duo Blondes turn "It's Up There" into a woozy, trance inducing mass of loveliness that could feasibly have appeared on their LP while Mohn duo Jorg Burger and Wolfgang Voigt go otherworldly on a delightfully expansive rendition of "Then It's White".

Review: Having made their Disco Capablancas debut back in 2012 with the excellent 12" Shoal, sprawling Minneapolis collective Food Pyramid return to Hugo Capablancas' label for an equally fine second release in the shape of Knosssos. Whilst this standard edition may not have quite the same level of collectability as the edition of 50 that feature hand painted artwork from Disco Capablancas compadre Andreas Golder, you can't fault the music. Food Pyramid are on top form with "Knossos" as layer upon layer of hypnotic synthesis spill out of the grooves and it's easy to see why label and artist plumped for Gavin Russom for remix duties. The DFA's White Wizard turns in a trademark remix that turns an already psychedelically potent track into a motorik techno beast of spell binding proportions.

Four Hands - "Sea Of Love" (Mammoth Mountain mix)
Four Hands - "November 2011, North Northumberland" (Zoviet France dub)
Four Hands - "Mountain Of Mammon" (Zoviet France version)
Review: The Newcastle based Signals collective have been delightfully unpredictable in their short existence to date, with releases from artists as varied as Legowelt, John Heckle and Oppenheimer Analysis also demonstrating an ear for quality that ensures the casual observer should always check in on their latest release. That honour falls on two local North East acts in the shape of sometime Claremont 56 artist Four Hands and iconic industrial figures Zoviet France. This clear twelve inch is the most creatively ambitious record from Signals yet, with the original material from Four Hands in essence a remix he did of "Mammoth Mountain", a track from the Manchester based artist Caro Snatch. Reimagined as a luscious ambient music with real attention paid to musicality, "Sea Of Love (Mammoth Mountain mix)" is a beautiful slice of music that can't fail to captivate across the almost eight minutes of its duration. Accompanying this, Zoviet France submitted two remixes, with the first - "November 2011, North Northumberland (Zoviet France dub)" - actually a recording of themselves playing the Four Hands version on a mobile phone while one of them chops wood. Complementing this slightly odd version is a sublime thirteen minute ambient piece that truly refigures the magic of Four Hands' original piece in Zoviet France's own inimitable style.

Review: Holland's Shimmering Moods imprint inaugurates its release schedule with what seems to be the first collaboration from Dutch newcomers, Framewatcher and Sonornote. Coming out of the Amsterdam district, this new label is set to provide us with rich, compelling and dubby electronic amalgamations judging from this debut release. The two artists' sounds fuse into a perfect unison, where spectral modular sonics drop into shreds of field recordings and neat little synth glitches. We've been told these are super limited and won't come back after they've gone, so act fast!
