Review: Tresor Records is celebrating the legacy of Detroit techno pioneers Scan 7 with the reissue of their debut album, Dark Territory. Originally released in 1996, this influential LP has been remastered from the original DAT files by Mike Grinser, with select tracks like 'Unusual Channel' mixed by techno legend Blake Baxter. The reissue features updated artwork and comes in a double vinyl format, preserving the raw energy and forward-thinking sound that defines the album. Dark Territory is a masterclass in techno minimalism, characterised by tough, groovy rhythms and a deep, restrained atmosphere. Tracks like 'Planet Energy' showcase Scan 7's ability to build tension with precision, holding back before unleashing powerful basslines that electrify the dancefloor. The group's leader, Trackmaster Lou, conveyed his vision of techno's future with each track, blending Detroit's signature machine-funk with a darker, moodier edge. Scan 7's debut was ahead of its time. Even nearly 30 years later, it still feels fresh, reaffirming their place in techno's pantheon. The remastered release allows a new generation to experience the depth and innovation of Dark Territory in a new package.

Review: Hotflush head honcho Scuba dons the more uncompromising SCB moniker for his first album under this alias. Caibu incorporates material from his recent 'Below The Line' and 'Old Media New Society' EPs and continues with the theme of this conceptual series. It explores the idea of an 'imagined surgical procedure where cognitive ability is augmented through transplant from one brain to another' - heavy stuff! Indeed there are a variety of moods and scenes presented across the album's sonic narrative, beginning with the typically moody and heads down vibe of opening cut "Test Tubes" or the dystopian electro bass of "Freedom For The Fifty" (Caibu Adjustment version), through to lush cosmic ambience on "Laboratory Conditions" and even some industrial styled textural abrasions - as heard on the difficult "Intelligence Fetish".

Review: Italo-Iranian producer Sciahriar Tavakoli, commonly known as Sciahri, after releasing on renowned label as Ilian Tape, Mord, Opal Tapes/Black Opal and MANHIGH finally presents his first long playing record "Double-Edged", and he does it on his own imprint, Sublunar Records.

The LP is an extended, carefully compiled exploration of the many facets of his signature sound, where emotional melodies collide with dense and rasping basslines.

The artist aims to express emotions with unsettling simplicity, showcasing techno compositions that are both thoughtful and primal.

Within the space of ten tracks, Sciahri's sound design reveals his structure, pushing the listener through a labyrinth of textures and rhythms.

Review: Boysnoize Recordings returns with the softmore LP from fellow German, Bryan Muller, and we've been waiting on this one for quite some time now! You'll be pleased to hear that it's something of a conceptual work, where heavy four-to-the-floor beats meet calmer, more placid territories throughout. In fact, the album contains many moments of total tranquility, where dreamy, aqueous synths float gracefully amid swells of dubbed-out chords and waves of FX trickery. For example, "Moondquelle (Spirit Mix)" goes hand in glove with more abstract moments such as "Hendy" or "Flight". It's mainly a listening experience, but when the tempo does pick up, it's dance music at its most elegant.

Review: Somewhat surprisingly, this is veteran Detroiter Patrice Scott's debut album. He's been releasing admirably melodic blends of deep house and techno since 2006, but this is the first time he's attempted to fill a full-length release. Euphonium is predictably enjoyable, with audible nods to pioneers of both genres - Ron Hardy, Ron Trent, Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Larry Heard in particular - and a range of tracks that ripple with far-sighted chords, sci-fi tinged rhythms, and an almost tactile feel. While mostly focused on dancefloor material, there are occasional downtempo excursions (see "A Detroit State of Mind" and "Sync Deeper"). These help give the album balance, while emphasizing Scott's love of mood and melody.

Review: Dave Seaman (Brothers In Rhythm) and Quivver (John Graham) are two long time heavyweights of the progressive house and trance scene for over 30 years now. The pair join forces on the Balance label to share a DJ mix. This version features unmixed tracks that were used in the mix by both including two original productions they wrote together to make this collaboration even more special. Both of those, 'Make It Disappear' and 'Mushroom Embargo' kick off this double vinyl version. What old head can't spot a Quivver bassline when they hear one?! Highlights also include Dave's heavy driving remix of 'Low Burn' by Underworld, Ben Archbold's epic 'Psychedelic Halo' and Timo Maas's bass heavy remix of Polaroit's 'Apart'. For those long time fans of Balance mixes, you have another winner here!

Review: Stretched across three slabs of wax, Jeroen Search's "Monism" is as much a statement of intent as it is a suitably grandiose debut album. Like much of the Dutch producer's work, the majority of the material on show is the product of straight-to-tape improvisations with limited live editing. As a result, the 13-track set feels fluid, atmospheric and immediate, with the long-serving studio buff sashaying between spacey ambient soundscapes, shuffling deep techno, hypnotic peak-time workouts, crunchy and percussive club tools, Boards of Canada style IDM, Retro-futurist Low Countries slammers (see the old school R&S Records feel of "The One", creepy experimental electronica and leisurely dub techno explorations.

Review: As you'll no doubt be aware, the Seekers pseudonym gets passed between producers like an over-sized jazz cigarette at an early morning after-party. For this third full-length excursion, the baton has been passed to newcomer Luca Piermattei. As usual, it's a pleasingly varied and atmospheric affair, where you'll find hazy dub house cuts nestling side by side with extended ambient interludes, and drowsy techno rollers rubbing shoulders with deep house/electro fusion cuts. This limited edition version comes bundled with an exclusive, ultra-limited 7" single. This includes the zany, hip-hop-meets-IDM bubbler "Frankie's Resurrection" and the wonky, deep space tech-jazz shuffle of "Fantasy Fantasizing".

Review: Alex Picone's Seekers project is taking on a life of its own thanks to a fourth studio album since 2016, and it's impressive to see such continuity in terms of sound, design, and general aesthetic. Much like the previous 3 LPs under the Seekers moniker, Into The Red is a wonderfully explorative effort, often transforming from deep house into something more abstract, less concrete, but nonetheless funky and energetic in its approach. For example, the gentle euphoria of "Muttons" evolves into the aqueous acid loops that govern "Preface", while the old-school rave bass of "Dr Rot" mutates into a beat-heavy Chicago house number. It is the sign of a producer who truly understands how to craft stories out of dance music, a skill which should always remain at the core of what this music is about. Recommended.

Phoned-in vocal samples, two-tone ambiences, soothing sub; they all feature on this mega LP from the artist and label, whose aim is clearly to bring an extra, perhaps fourth, dimension to an established sounds. Rough and ready and analogue-centric, it's perfect for the restless jam-seeker.

Released originally in a highly limited CDr pressing earlier this year, Pacifica now arrives in a deluxe 2LP format that really does the vivid cover art justice! Adopting a pace that's immediately soothing, Pacifica's nine tracks are made all the more welcoming by the rich sense of melody that floats throughout, ensuring that the album has a sense of consistency that rewards the senses many times over.

Review: Vancouver-based Segue is Jordan Sauer, who has become a fixture on the Vancouver Island Silent Season after several releases including 2013's brilliant "Pacifica" LP. His new opus "Over The Mountains" is another deep and dubby ambient excursion of dreamy and hypnotic glory, no doubt influenced by the serene surroundings of the Alberta countryside and his former home British Columbia. The entire album is beautifully consistent and cohesive, allowing you drift away blissfully over its full duration, but if we had to pick some great tracks at random, our suggestions would be the echo-laden glacial dub of "Celestial", "Deep Valley" where Sauer proves his deft hand at sublime and ethereal electronica, or the deep and dusty armchair techno of "Alpenglow".

Review: Belgium's Giets brothers made their debut on Opal Tapes three years ago with Kreise, an udeniably intense and industrial-framed fusion of abstract electronics, rhythmic noise and clandestine soundscapes. They've pushed the boat out further on this belated follow-up, a single album in two parts stretched across a couple of slabs of wax. It's a typically fuzzy, distorted and wholeheartedly paranoid affair, where occasional blasts of "black dwarf techno" (see 'Sin') come outnumbered by creepy, unsettling soundscapes ('Ragen', the frankly bizarre 'Brett'), hypnotic and noise saturated mutations of IDM ('Laus', 'Unit') and hushed trips into becalmed, bleeping rhythmic noise (the brilliant album highlight, 'Moger').

It looks back in great detail at UK Techno, House and Breakbeat 1990-1994 with Richard Sen as the man in control. He was a DJ back in those days, playing the most epic raves around Europe and taking some of the photos which now form the artwork for this collection. His obsessive record collecting from those days is reflected here across a series of sometimes obscure but always brilliant UK tunes for the worlds of ambient, techno, tribal house, breakbeat and early trance.

His Shape The Future album lands on Planet Rhythm and takes no prisoners - there is expert minimal tech funk to kick off with on 'Shaba Funk' then moody dub on 'Odyssey' stripped back deep techno serenity on 'Vision.' These tracks are quick and urgent, paired back to the essentials but still brim with plenty of unique character and atmospheres that really draw you in. The title track 'Shape The Future' might just be the standout with its Mills-style melodies and infinite cosmic horizons.

Review: For two decades Buenos Aires-based electronic music producer Sebastian Galante aka Seph has been honing his craft in the Latin American underground with his label Aula Magna Records, which in turn gave rise to releases on Echocord, Insurgentes and many more. Recently he's been dropping bangers on Tresor as one half of Oscean, alongside Andres Zacco, and now arrives on Lapsus Records with Septimo Sentido. Here he brings his expert sound design to the fore, channelling classic mid-'90s electronica ala Aphex Twin, Skam, Reload, and/or u-Ziq, except Galante's approach is a lot more digital-esque than those artists' otherwise largely analogue stances. Opener 'OBI' recalls the daydreamy pad-n-stuttery neo-IDM of Lanark Artefax or Quirke; this mood is maintained for quite a while until the first whiff of acid is smelt on the A3 'Felina'. The record gets better and better, airier and airier, in fact; 'Skyways Shuriken' is especially sharp and recondite, and 'Dragonscale' blows us instantly away with its D&D-soundscape-worthy finesse. An aetheric release, one that wouldn't sound out of place as the next Mirror's Edge soundtrack.

Review: Prolific machine manipulator Boris Bunnik already operates under a dizzying array of aliases - Conforce, Versalife and Silent Harbour being the most celebrated - so it seems odd that he'd want to add another pseudonym to the CV. Severnaya, though, is a fresh moniker, seemingly created to allow him to explore the slowly-shifting, atmosphere-rich world of glacial, Biosphere-esque techno. Those with a deep knowledge of 1990s ambient music will point out audible nods to the becalmed, weightless electronics of Pete Namlook and the flat-on-your-back-at-sunrise bliss of Sun Electric's overlooked (but sublime) 30.7.94 Live full-length. There are a few gently rhythmic moments dotted throughout, too, though these tend to be every bit as beautiful and becalmed as the album's many beat-less excursions.

Review: We welcome back extreme noise terror Cosmo Rhythmatic, the experimental offshoot from the Berlin-based Italians at Repitch. British luminary Shackleton is no stranger to the imprint, having appeared previously as as part of the trio Tunes Of Negation, but his latest offering entitled 'Primal Forms' sees him team up with Polish jazz clarinetist and co-curator of Tak Picture - Waclaw Zimpel. From droney exoticism morphing into hypnotic chiptune music on the 17 minute long title track, or the experimental folk of "Primal Drones" to the unholy, yet, not altogether unpleasant hybrid of bass, free jazz and classical minimalism on the final cut "Ruined Future".

Review: Shed's Towards East was originally made for Berlin's Dussmann store back in 2022. It's a very personal project that now gets reissued by The Final Experiment and it sounds superb. The Polish producer weaves in plenty of foggy and lo-fi ambient pads into these tracks, whether they are beatless vignettes or more low-end driven soundscapes such as 'Absolute.' On 'In Between (Fur Geli), yearning strings and a lonely motif amongst walls of melancholic synth done and 'September 5th' is another hazy memory with nostalgic overtones and loads of frayed edges and buried melodic wisps. It's techno, but not as we know it.
