Alexny - "Meneao" (6:03)
Siggatunez - "Boogie" (6:29)
Mosaik Kollektif - "Twisted City" (5:49)
Dj Laurel - "Let The Good Time" (4:29)
Lego Edit - "Party Freaks" (Lego party dub) (5:59)
Review: You can always count on the Legofunk crew to bring you disco and funk edits from less mined sources that will absolutely rock it on the floor. On this instalment we have five different joints to get stuck into, from the slow Afro house throw down of Alexny's 'Meneao' to Siggatunez's slinky, soulful groover 'Boogie'. Look out for the low tempo seduction of DJ Laurel's 'Let The Good Time', which will get a warm-up slot thoroughly juiced for the night to come. The Lego Edit 'party dub' of 'Party Freaks' heads more explicitly towards peak-time house, but as ever it's delivered with heart and soul thanks to the vintage source material powering the track.

Keep Marching (4:17)
Shuffleupagus (3:39)
Review: Mystery surrounds the story behind this edit-style two-tracker - and, indeed, the identity of Baggy Leggins and Duke Hobo themselves - but there's much to admire about it. Check first A-side 'Keep Marching', where a lightly beefed up and housed-up semi-acoustic groove offers a platform for sweet, bilingual female lead vocals, jaunty guitars and simmering strings. It's a genuine dancefloor revision, but one that will suit Balearic DJs and confirmed party starters as much as dusty-fingered crate diggers and selector sorts. 'Shuffleupagus', meanwhile, sees the mystery artist cut up and tool up a vaguely familiar Latin workout with predictably energetic and party-starting results.

Diplomats Of Soul - "Brighter Tomorrow" (feat Incognito & Imaani) (5:53)
Review: Expansion's offshoot label is back with a second release and for the occasion have put together a special eco vinyl 10" here that is strictly limited to just 100 copies and is fully deserving of that treatment: Tom Browne Feat. Carol Woods combined to great effect in the 80s on this soul classic that now gets a first-ever single release. It's the sort of immediately heartwarming tune that draws from soul, jazz funk, disco and more to cook up a steamy and excellent groove. On the flip is Diplomats Of Soul with their own super cover of 'Brighter Tomorrow' featuring Brit funk and acid jazz greats Incognito & Imaani.

Camomilla - "Queen Of The Night"
Noa-Noa - "Harry O"
De Dion - "Sexy Cola" (extended version)
Sandy Samuel - "I Like Sado Music"
Review: Mondo Groove is one of the leading purveys or disco, Italo and nu-disco and it has been for ages. This new and limited 12" is packed with four hard to find gems from between the years of 1983 and 1988. They have all been taken from the original master tapes for this special reissue. Camomilla's chugging and snappy 'Queen Of The Night' opens up with a squelchy arp and heavenly melodies, Noa-Noa gets more cosmic and De Dion offers the drama and neon colour of 'Sexy Cola' with a fine extended version while Sandy Samuel's 'I Like Sado Music' is a loose limbed percussive workout.

Doing Our Own Thing (Dimitri From Paris remix part 2) (4:57)
Review: Monsieur Dimitri from Paris works his magic on Casbah 73's organic disco grooves with a remix treatment that surpasses all expectations. Casbah's original track may sound like a band-recorded take with added production sheen, but it's actually a deceptively well-made track recorded by a talented solo artist. Dimitri brings added wompy disco-house heat to the track in two parts, with the first part focusing on the more bangerific elements of the original, and the B (part two) stripping things back to focus on the more minimal, solo dubby parts.

Stronger (dub) (4:41)
Review: The soul, funk and disco 7" community is a strong one. Besides garage rock and psychedelic rock, there might not be another genre that is so beloved on the small but mighty 45rpm format. So, it completely makes sense if you are a newer producer releasing music in these genres then definitely know your fan base. Cool Million is a Danish and German duo doing just that. Their track 'Stronger' is the track and the title of their sixth full length album from 2019. The album has gained such strong reviews that they put it now as a single along with the Dub version on the reverse side. 'Stronger' is a positive and upbeat anthem that is sure reign in the innocent bystanders to party. The Dub is a super-cool alternative version that reminds of us classic roller-skating funk track from Midnight Star or Kool & The Gang. Need a party starter? Get this!

Review: After a superb repress of the Volvo Una Hit Italo classic, Bottin's Cristalli Liquidi project is back and this time in cahoots with French-Italiano electro pair Deux Control which is Justine Forever and Rodion. They have cooked up a selection of versions of 'Rosso Carnale' which, we understand, lyrically touches on the colour red and the gentle carnal forces of nature sung in Italian. There is a sped-up version from Bottin, a sparse mix from Deux Control and standout Mutant version with tougher drums but nice silky dub chords and a bright Italo version full of 80s synth nostalgia.

Review: Da Lukas's Satisfy Your Soul EP is a four-track full of disco goodness that opens with the title track, a driving, percussive workout with a powerful vocal performance. 'Let Your Body Be Free' continues the party music with a dynamic horn section and disco breakdown. 'Supergood' is a hi-energy dancefloor anthem, with a pumping beat an infectious filtered house sound. The EP closes with 'Music Turns Me On', a slow-burning track that enjoys riding the groove with a generous amount of funk. S'Inghelada (Il Tramonto) (3:29)
Review: If you were able to track down an original copy of Dana's soul single, 1977's 'Estate', for sale, it would most likely set you back a few hundred pounds. Helpfully, the excellent Disco Segrata label has tracked down the creators and cut a deal to reissue it. The title track (side A) is a fine example of eccentric, sun-splashed Mediterranean disco of the sort that Italian producers excelled at before the more electronic and synth-pop influenced Italo-disco sound emerged some years later. It does feature some spacey synths, but also organic grooves, infectious lead vocals and some sparkling, suitably summery melodies. 'S'inghelada' takes a similar sonic approach, opting for even heavier bass, liberal use of jazzy and Spanish style guitar solos, and even bolder 'dancing by the beach in Rimini' lead lines.

On this release for High Fashion we get treated to two fierce and fabulous interpretations of the track from producers who know a thing or two about how to set the party alight. Martin Boer steps up first, bringing a soaring set of piano chords and melodic vocoder magic to the locomotion of the rhythm section, while DJ Pucko keeps a generous spoonful of funk in the mix for his own take on this evergreen dancefloor monster.

Gipsy (Prins Thomas remix) (8:10)
Review: Detroit Stories is, first and foremost, the name of a recent social experiment in Motor City, USA. Largely broadcast on social media like Instagram, it consists of interviews with OG residents and immigrants from way back - the ones who've lived through the city's many ups and downs - we hear got stories of good times, hard work, and opportunities, but also struggles, violence, and social upheavals, all of which helped shaped Detroit's rise and slow fall. Secondly but not least, 'Detroit Stories' is also the name of Daughters And Sons' (Luca Fronza's) latest EP, which plunges the sampleable depths of these interviews to effuse a deep and inexorable sense of the city's cultural significance, not only as the heartland of Fordism (the dominant ideology in whose shadow even humble music reviewers like ourselves live), but also the place, where, without coincidence, techno originated. Coming with a remix by Prins Thomas, star track 'Gipsy' is especially well-suited to the city's obverse mood, combining the glitz of industrial opportunism, a Detroit-endemic Christian religiosity, and a nomadic core theme, all via ploddingly militant beats and a twinging lead synth whistle.

Review: London Records and Central Station come together for this, the first in a series of new EPs they will put out together. It finds the top selling artist David Penn offering up a big remix of Michael Gray & Jon Pearn aka Sex-O-Sonique's 'I Thought I Was You' in much the same way he has done with several other big hits before now. It's the sort of impossibly and instantly feel good house record that brims with soulful synths and hand in the air chords, smart little vocal sounds and chunky, funky drums. The original was already a big hit in the clubs and this new version is likely to be just as widely loved.

The Saucer Planes - "Straight To The Point" (Marc Davis edit) (8:13)
Review: Producer, DJ, and revered collector Marc Davis returns to his Chi-Talo series with a much-anticipated second volume. The Chi-Talo series deals in split EPs; each entry draws on an ultra-rare Chicago house gem and an Italian disco record respectively (one for the A and one for the B), re-working both into an enduring dialectal retelling of each city's contemporaneous come-ups in the 1980s and 90s. This time around, we're met with a reconstruction of 'Bass Construction', first heard on the Italo disco album Crazy Colours by New Sound Quartet (1979). Then comes a wonky, handclapping rendition of The Saucer Planes' 'Straight To The Point', the original of which can hardly be found on the net at all, even now. Both are huge but humble versions, marking out the guidelines for yet more editors to come.

The title track is a catchy and funky house track that while the remix is a bit more Balearic and beachy. Eyes On You (3:48)
Review: Dayton were an Ohio-based band who named themselves after their hometown, and for the first half of the 80s they were enjoying a prolific run of original funk and boogie jams including five studio albums. This single on Expansion leads with their misty-eyed 1983 groover 'Promise Me' - a smooth-as-silk cut with not a lick out of place. On the flip, Expansion have dialled back to the band's self-titled debut album from 1980 and the noticeably more organic sound of 'Eyes On You'. If you simply love great 80s soul tunes or want to get to know Dayton a little better, this is a 7" well worth your time.

Indiscreet (The Knutsens remix) (7:21)
Review: Although best known for the soaring anthem 'Cathedrals' - a 1976 gem that has been reissued many times - there's much more disco gold in the D.C Larue catalogue to find and play. It's ripe for remixing, too, as this fine EP proves. Opolopo steps up first to deliver a suitably grandiose, Tom Moulton style rearrangement of 1978 cut 'Do You Want The Real Thing' that smartly alternates between Clavinet-sporting groove sections and more overblown, hands-in-the-air instrumental sections. Over on the flip, Dr Packer gets his disco-funk on (minus the house beats he often employs) on a celebratory revision of 'Let Them Dance', before the Knutsens reach for star-fall electronics, throbbing arpeggio-driven bass and righteous orchestration on a delightfully full-throttle revision of 'Indiscreet'.

Review: Earlier this year, French disco and jazz-funk combo Chatobaron joined forces with fellow Parisian Dimitri From Paris for the rather good 'I Like (The Music That You Play)'. While that was a wholehearted disco workout, this speedy sequel sees the band (and their high-profile collaborator) explore their West Coast jazz-funk influences via an inspired workout full to bursting with killer instrumental solos, dusty grooves, memorable motifs and a genuinely killer, cowbell-sporting percussion brerak. This time round, there are no Dimitri From Paris remixes; instead, dubbed-out disco favourites the Idjut Boys are on hand to smother the track in tape echo and dub delay. The result is a typically spaced-out, low-slung affair that naturally makes the most of the band's killer bassline and layered percussion sounds.

Review: The publicity-shy, scalpel-wielding Disco Records crew returns with volume five in their ongoing series, bringing with them another quartet of dusty re-edits. As usual, they've largely avoided the obvious in favour of breathing new life into diggers' favourites and the kind of slept-on obscurities ripe for reappraisal. Review: The freshest 12" Balearic vinyl release on the block comes courtesy of Discotecas, a label who prefer to home in on underground house and Balearic edits. The release features four tracks: 'Move', 'Like Syrup', 'Take It' and 'Always Forever', all of which are essentially lost vestiges of well-known songs. Some parts are genuine edits, sometimes they aren't and instead function as made-from-scratch imitations, but that's part of the art. Whether or not they're built on wholly original samples is superfluous - as long as the tracks pique the brain's deja-vu receptors, as they do with, their slap-basses, clavey shakers, and sultry beachside vocals, then we're good.

Even Funkier - "Dance With Your Feet" (6:03)
Jordan Reece - "Prayer" (6:59)
Review: Moiss Music released a hot pair of EPs in February and repeat the same trick in May with another quality double drop. It is a various artists offering as always with DJ Delivery's 'Never Gonna Give You Up' a sure-fire floor-filling anthem to start things off. It's got loopy drums and string samples as well as sumptuous vocal harmony then Borka & The Gang keep the feel-good vibes alive with 'Kidding Feelings and Even Funkier's' Dance With Your Feet' is another smile-inducing bit of disco warmth with withering sic-fi synths and hip swinging claps. Jordan Reece's 'Prayer' has hints of gospel in the vocal while noodling keys and tight kicks all get looped to perfection.

Para Siempre (feat Florencia - Elements Of Trance) (5:42)
Para Siempre (Italo Balearic instrumental mix) (7:31)
Review: Fett Burger and Cato Canari, a Norwegian DJ and producer based in Tokyo, have teamed up to brilliantly Balearic effect here on this new outing on the cult Sex Tags UFO label. They offer up three different versions of 'Para Siempre' that are all suited to sunset sessions on the beach. The tune features Florencia and first comes as an Italo Balearic vocal mix which is doused in lush synths and has steady bass rumbles below the rich chords. The Elements Of Trance mix is perfect for when things head indoors to the club with its weighty low-end thud then the most trippy and loved-up version comes at the end.

Tonight I'm Alright (House mix)
It's A Love Thing (Breakbeat mix)

Review: Usually a b-boy with a penchant for dazzlingly glitzy breaks and drum & bass edits, DJ Junk has more lately branched into a disco edits tip, not forgetting the former two styles and unhesitatingly fusing them in the process. Three house mixes and one breakbeat mix amps up the energy here on this latest crock of disco edits on wax, whether that be of The Whispers' "It's A Love Thing' or Musique's 'Keep On Jumpin''.

Homage (7:04)
Review: Producer and DJ MES (aka Jason Sutton) is the man behind the Guesthouse label out of California and has overseen it serving up more than 100 releases. His own music is never far away from influential charts and record bags and now he serves up a funky number packed with soul samples. 'Soul Glow' kicks off with playful drum loops and filters, a neat bassline and infectious claps. 'Party People' has a more edgy feel with silvery drums and tumbling congas while 'Homage' is the most raw and direct and possibly the best of the lot with its chunky drums and razor-sharp hi-hats.

What Is Your Love Worth? (9:05)
W Wheeling (9:24)
Review: The long running Gamm label looks to long time disco don DJ Monchan for a special new cut that takes the dance floor on an epic adventure over more than nine minutes. 'What Is Your Love Worth?' has lush Philly strings and brims with happiness from the big horns and florid vocals. It's a groove that never quits and brings irresistible heat to the club. 'W Wheeling' has a more raw and visceral appeal - the funky drums and bass, the big keys and the expressive male and female vocals counter each other next to big Rhodes energy and lashing of boogie brilliance that brings 90s New York charm.

90 Exclusive (7:15)
Review: Seven years after he inaugurated the series, Dailysession Records founder DJ Monchan (AKA Brooklyn-based DJ, producer and scalpel fiend Toshihiro Moriguchi) presents a ninth volume of East Village Edits. There's plenty of confirmed dancefloor heat to be found across the EP, from the heavyweight underground disco-funk hedonism of 'Changes' (whose spacey, 70s style synth sounds add a deliciously cosmic after-taste) and the piano-laden, everything-but the kitchen sink disco madness of 'Triple Eching' (check the extended, percussion-laden drum breaks), to the breezy, gently housed-up, slap bass-propelled bounce of 'Feel Sweet Love' and the squelchy, slow motion, hard-to-pigeonhole, Wackies-esque reggae-boogie of '90 Exclusive'.

Trouble Man (6:33)
Review: This popular series of edits from Dailysession reaches the milestone of a tenth volume here and of course it does so in fine style. DJ Monchan is the man with the goods and he soon makes a mark with opener 'Precious Love' which is a soul gem that will swell the heart. 'Feel It' is a rousing and gospel laced tune with belting vocals and 'Steal Away' then brings some funky disco ass-shaking. 'Trouble Man' close down with an epic soul vocal that sends shivers down the spine. It's a magnificently stirring tune to close a solid EP.

U&me (7:01)
Review: The legendary Game label is pure bait for dancers. Whether serving up disco, hip-hop, Latin or funk it knows how to hit the perfect sweet spot that brings everyone together. DJ Monchan is next up with this tasteful two-track 12". It starts with the low-slung and dubbed-out disco-house loops of 'Love Me' which is topped with a short, simple but sensuous vocal hook. On the flip is 'U&me' which brings some li-fi crackle and funky jazz licks over rolling and warming drums. A real early evening classic, for sure.

Review: While hardly a "Holy Grail"all bar a few people didn't know it existed until recently, D.J Never Sleep's sole single, the private press gem 'Teorema', can certainly be described as "buried treasure". It was reportedly the work of some experienced Italian producers, though its' sound is all Spanish guitar solos, early house-meets-Latin freestyle beats, joyous Piano riffs and evocative female vocals, it is pure formative Balearic house. This Thank You reissue not only showcases the original EP's two leading mixes (track two here, the more chugging and synth bass-sporting rework, is the pick), but also a never-released, effects-laden 'Never Sleepy Beats' drum took, plus versions in Spanish (B1) and French (B2).

Review: B2 Recordings hits release number 13 with DJ Rocca and Lex combing on a trio of fresh house cuts that blend elements of disco, Latin and soul. Up first is the glorious 'Solid Street' which has loose and percussive disco-house grooves overlaid with big synth energy and steamy vocals. 'Solar System' is slower and deeper, with a more rugged bassline and low slung sense of funk that never lets up. 'Last of all, 'Rose Tree' is a ramshackle house arrangement with whistles, Rhodes keys, tin-pot percussion, florid flutes and plenty of sunny energy all making it a real standout. A timeless EP packed with musicality.

Review: DJ S is a Greek producer who is one of the best editors around, with his own singular downbeat sound. On his latest release, he joins the Too Slow To Disco Edits series with four tracks of smooth and groovy disco edits. He reworks some classic and obscure gems from the late 70s and early 80s, adding his signature touch of warmth and soul. Review: The legendary DMX Krew is as accomplished as they come when talking about electro innovators. Each time he steps out he proves that and this new one proves it, quite knowingly so given the title. The title track 'Still Got It' is a stomping electro sizzler with lashing of disco goodness and a catchy vocal hook. The dub fleshes out the low end while 'Paranoia' picks up the pace on the flip. It's a high speed cut with dazzling melodic sequences riding up and down the scale. Cold then shuts down with boogie energy and more lush Casino keys.

Review: Dombrance is back with a typically vibrant new EP on Discolypso that features two fresh tracks and remixes from luminaries Francois K and Lindstrom. Once referred to as a 'French Jarvis Cocker with a bushy moustache and flares,' Dombrance is a musical maverick who dropped his debut album last year and performed globally from Glastonbury to Downtown LA. On this one, 'Bayrou' and 'Cope' draw inspiration from politicians, delivering timeless electronic disco vibes with sugary chords and pulsating synths, then Francois K transforms 'Cope' into a psychedelic journey, while Lindstrom's remix of 'Bayrou' conjures images of a David Lynch pool party. It's peak disco fun.

Review: Like many releases for Record Store Day, this is a rather rare and super expensive classic that gets a welcome reissue to make it available to us all once more. The Dome City Rock Orchestra hailed from New Orleans made heavy jazz funk sounds with tight as-you-like musicians all excelling on their instruments. The A-side is packed with energy, swirling synths and big bongos, wild flutes and cosmic vibes all making for a thrilling dancefloor gem. Part Two carries on where Part One left off, and both leave you feeling breathless but ready for more.

Jupiter Jack (Jupiter mix) (5:17)
Review: Since making his bow as Donald Dust six years ago, Tom Banks has codified a signature sound rich in jacking, Ron Hardy style drum tracks, surging Italo-disco melodies, late '80s European house sounds and 21st century nu-Italo tropes. All these ingredients - and more - can be heard on his latest EP for Bordello a Parigi. Opener 'Nausea', for example, audibly doffs a cap to Koto and Bobby Orlando, while the more percussive, sweat-soaked 'Sick Your Own' remix of the same track provides an energetic, peak-time ready alternative. There are two mixes, too, of 'Jupiter Jack': the new beat-meets-Italo-disco throb of the 'Groovy Mix' and the breathless mid-80s Chicago house flex of the 'Jupiter Mix'. Chiming, synth-pop-goes-electro number 'Noise in the Stairwell' completes a fine package.
