Nairobi Market
Nairobi Market (Ted Amber remix)
Juicy Breakfast
Memesis
Review: Returning to Purple Print after contributing one to their second V/A, 'Dreaming In A Shell', Zenk links arms with Ted Amber for a new, formative four-track release. 'Nairobi Market' and its corresponding remix by Amber retread an apparent recent jaunt to Kenya, where a fantastical, mercantile mirage is said to have informed on the cyborg textures you hear here. 'Juicy Breakfast' takes and uses the dried viands bought on said market, amounting to a nice morning metal repast of nuts, bolts, and gluons: fatty acids, rivet potpourri, slippery background sound design. 'Memesis' titularly invokes the goddess of divine retribution but reduces her to an edible meme, as restless, posthuman vocalisations are heard to mutter and chirrup between snap-up beats.

Bang To The Beat Of This
I'll Be Careful
Welcome To The Future
Santa Cruz
Review: UK producer Wodda assembles four speed garage and house hybrids that reflect a slow-burning evolution in his sound. 'Bang to the Beat of This' opens with filtered sirens and detuned chords, cutting into a tough, swung rhythm that leans more peak-time than previous outings. 'I'll Be Careful' switches pace with a more upbeat palette: bright chord stabs, clipped vocal chops and a rolling low-end that nods clearly to early 2000s UKG. On the flip, 'Welcome to the Future' maintains the same rhythmic density but strips back the melodic detail, focusing on percussive drive and stabbing bass pressure. 'Santa Cruz' closes the set on a looser, more playful note i 90s-referencing synth lines sit above swung drums and a rounded, slightly overdriven bassline. The sequencing shows range without stretching too far and the mixdown keeps things functional without feeling raw. A direct and well-balanced outing from a producer who's clearly refining his tools.

Rana Temporaria
Review: With nearly 20 releases under his belt, this seasoned German producer delivers a strong techno EP that fluidly bridges multiple styles while maintaining a cohesive, forward-facing vision. Drawing from techno, tech house, electroclash and even breakbeat house, the EP moves with confidence and a subtle experimental streak. 'Klobb' starts with a sleek and sleazy futuristic edge. Its dark, pulsing rhythm and eerie melody create a fun-but-serious mood. 'You’re Slipping Away' follows, diving deep into EBM and darkwave-inflected territory. It’s a relentless and commanding track. 'Hush' flips the energy on its head, a welcome slowdown that leans into downtempo vibes. The B-side has 'Am I Making Sense', a bold techno cut with pristine sound design and a sense of urgency. It’s big and atmospheric, with drums that punch through the mix cleanly. The EP closes on 'Rana Temporaria', a track that combines dynamic groove work with melodic tension and a slightly edgy twist. An ideal closer for a set or a record that resists easy categorisation. A confident, genre-fluid EP with some versatility too.

Review: Wade Watts and Sir Rizio step up with this standout new EP, their debut for the label after a warmly received appearance on the always interesting Greyscale. They hail from the suburbs of Jo'burg which is where they have cooked up these seriously flavoursome and stripped-back sounds. 'Atlas' kicks off with rolling drums and widescreen dub chords that sink you into a warm world of fluid groove. 'Limitless Progression' keeps the depths coming with rattling and classic dub hits and smoky pads, while an EmmaSoul dub mix on the flip heads into heady territory and 'Innermost Existence' brings some wisps of melodic light to the fore.

Review: Back in the mid 2000s, at the height of his minimal-era fame, German-based producer Ricardo Villalobos released a now highly sought-after compilation of his early singles from the late 1990s, Salvador. Rawax has wisely decided to reissue it on wax, stretching the material across a trio of 12" singles. This first volume features a trio of must-have early Villalobos treats: the Playhouse style micro-house-meets-wonky deep house epic 'Lazer@Present' (here renamed 'Lazer Present'); 1998's 'Unflug', where his now infamous obsession with the percussion sounds of his native Chile combines with spacey synths and heavy grooves; and 1999's proto-minimal hypnotism, the superb (and seriously wayward) 'Tempura'.

Review: Velvet Velour (Liam Dodds) is the central name to propel London house and garage outing Oblique Recordings into brighter lights. After Espresso Bandini, Enrico Dragoni and Double Identity threw back to glaring future-past speed garage vibes on the label's last outing in 2023, now Eli Atala, MTTY and Velour join up for yet another frazzling fandango in the same style. From deep bass layers to sharp percussions, it's another knockout freshener from the cottage factory based in the big smoke.

Review: Proper scratch-itching 12" business via Portuguese minimal outfit Cloudbeats. Velvet Velour (Liam Dodds) serves as visiting dance tutor, topping up a fortuitous four years so far under the moniker, and buoyed by such disc dissenters as Butter Side Up, Sonido Chido and Nuances De Nuit. 'Tempo' is a record-scratching, hi speed garage satisfier, the title track for which flaunts a rather brave early tempo slowdown to die for. As the record goes on we hear various love bugging, paralinguistic vocal sounds - hums, breaths, giggles, "uh-huh" and"yes" samples - as though to mirror what we were already thinking about the record. We hear extra convective sound bubbles blown on the B1 'What Is That?', locking down a bathtime garage sound universe that is entirely its own.

Review: Only Music Matters hits release number ten with another anonymous artist serving up a trio of tasteful minimal and tech rollers that have already been supported by Dubfire and Priku. 'AAA001A' is a wicked mix of synthetic and organic sound - a heartfelt male vocal and new age flutes, sci-fi melodies and bubbly drums all coalesce into a hypnotic roller, then 'BBB001B' picks up the pace with a smattering of silvery toms and snares over dubby beats. Last of all, 'BBB002B' brings some colour next to trippy and abstract synths and whispered vocals that are stitched into a silky and ever-evolving rhythm. Classy stuff.

Review: French label Laboratoire Osbolete have carefully built a space in which artists are let the title of sound alchemists, transmuting ferrous sonic metals into precious bezoars. Trajano is their latest metal-mogrifier to join their arcane ranks, and here they manifest the brilliant 'Formulas' EP: another demo of alchemical audial abilities audited afore our ears. 'Pipeta' brings a pipettes' worth of volatile liquid compound to our tympanic lobes, while 'In The Lab' and 'Formulas' leads us down an increasingly obsessive path, as we join Trajano in synthesising the ultimate lucky liquid, with reactive chemistries of ripply synth swirls and distant film dialogue.

Review: Martyn Hodgson (Tijn) and Daines (real name not known) have been mutually favourite collaborators within the experimental minimal techno scene in London since at least 2019, when the pair first crossed streams for Moss Co's eleventh for the 'Archway' EP, dedicated to the unmistakable North London district. Then came 'Aesthetic', a black vinyl interloper with revolutionary undertones, and now finally in 2025 comes 'CVS 008' for Curtea Veche, the voltage controlled UK outfit named after a Wallachian-Romanian palace built in Dracula's time (yes, that Dracula). On 'So Mad At You' and 'Excuse Me', we hear dreamy and fog-filled orbs of sound float before our ears, emitting juts of twiglike percussion and sheet metal gong sounds, worked around studious oneiric beats and swirling, timestretched vowel sounds.

Review: Consecrating knitwear and 12" vinyl, Monaberry are a minimal house label operating out of Berlin. Various taglines include "we are electronic music" and "we work all night and day", and their latest output is a wordless admission of this fact: resident demo-senders and inner-posse-members including Super Flu, Niixii, Mode In Tlv, Goom Gum, Dancing On Lego and Derun all pass through the wax floodgates here. With promo text likening fine progressive house movements to even finer knitwear, this is a delicate tracery of progressive minimal sendoffs, best among them 'Magneto' and 'Feel The Same'.

Review: 90s house hears a fresh filtering through modern cochlear percolations, jointly brewed by Berlin-based producer Subb-An and Phonica AM founder Luther Vine. 'Night Long' comes to Rawax as first chronicling of any sort of collaboration between the pair, excepting 'an's 'Synchronicity' release on the latter label from 2022. Together, we hear the motion blurred recollections of barely sensorially remembered nights out, where punning night moves like 'Opti-Mystic' merge with such tenderly processed repeaters as 'The Zone', sure to cause speaker-stack adjacent flow states in club-goers.

Review: Minimal jam techno like you've never heard it before. Berlin's Johannes Mai aka John Spring exits the hibernation cave for the first time in over 13 years: a legend in minimal techno, Spring's early works are always indubitably marked out for their rougher, serrated sonics, though this doesn't detract from their intrinsic tranciness either. 'MyCn18: Engraved Hourglass' unearths three unreleased tracks by Mai from the mid noughts: 'Train Ryde', 'Rave Behave', 'Melodic Ten', and last but not least a concluding Harry McCanna (Undersound, Statica) remix of comparably present-day provenance. Mai's inspirations are cosmic in scale and proportion: the Cn18 nebula gleams ever so brightly from its convergent, omniscient eye, as raspy red sands diminish to nil.

Review: Belfast's Space Dimension Controller returns with six glistening slow-burners that nod to Warp's early 90s Artificial Intelligence era, while gently messing with the co-ordinates. There's a subtlety in the programming: 'Infinite Image' drifts with a low-lit acid bassline and glassy synth layers, while 'Variation Five' hints at the woozy futurism of B12 or Spacetime Continuum. 'The Mirror Dome' and 'Chemical Glass' are deeper stillibuilt less for peak-time than post-club recalibration, hovering somewhere between ambient techno and dream-sequence electro. Even the percussive flickers of 'Reflect Itself' feel fluid, while closer 'Island Eye' stretches out like mist. Not nostalgic, not entirely newijust rich, soft-focus electronics executed with typical finesse.

The A-side opens with ‘Midnight Talking (Deeper Mix)’, a smoky revision of a prior digital cut that stretches out into dubbed, late-night territory. It’s followed by ‘The Basement’, a tougher affair with low-slung drums and clipped vocal fragments—a heads-down roller in contrast to the opener’s warmth. Over on the B-side, Sakro teams up with Baja California’s Louie Fresco on ‘Dance2’, a minimal house groove with a shuffling swing and sharp percussive detail. The closer, ‘Aquior Aline’, produced with Chklte, glides effortlessly with bubbling synths and broken beats. A low-key but confident first step.

Review: In 2003, deep in Croydon's Online Studios, the roots of proper tech house - we said *proper* tech house - were spreading underground. It was here that Evasive label head Rob joined forces with Simon Copleston, aka. Iteration X, for a fresh collaboration under the new alias Rob & Si. The project followed the underground momentum built by Iteration X's earlier 'Timecheck / Liquid Logic' EP, and merged the individual styles of both into a unified, forward-pulsing, projectile sound. The result was 'Roll One Up / Zebras', the 2003 two-tracker reminiscent of the sultry out-breaths characterising much of the 2-step garage that would emerge in parallel at the time. 'Zebraz' is an extra-special dubbing; an aposematic m(s)onochrome moving through various echos, stabs and what sound like field recordings of startled wildlife.

Review: Demi Riquisimo and The Trip join forces to launch Tessalicious, debuting a collaborative project, splitting partly off from the former artist's own Semi Delicious imprint. The new four-tracker evidences a shared talent by the pair for producing a twisting, winding dance finesser mood, blending melodiousness and functionality so that we almost can't tell the difference between them. Intended to captivate festival-goers, the likes of 'Don't Go Away' and 'Rock The House' offer sensorial and distant vocal samples, though their rare audible moments - "how do you say... you're gorgeous!?" - manage to leave us feeling all fuzzy inside.

The Soul
Review: Eddie Richards' vaults are surely some of the best there can be for tech house heads. The Brit was there on the ground, helping to shape the earliest incarnations of the newly emerging genre back in the 90s and early 00s and few have bettered it since. Proof comes from this reissue of a pair of remastered beauties on new label likethis. 'Destiny' has never before been on wax and is a silky, synth-laced sound with crisp drum funk and then the B-side jam 'The Soul' is a dusty and stripped-back mix of drums, hits, swirling pads and irresistibly loopy grooves.

Review: Rhadoo has long been in a class of his own when it comes to crafting intricately detailed minimal. Despite doing so for decades, he still finds freshness in his particular milieu, as he does again here on Secret Society, teaming up with multi-discipliniary artist and sound wizard Traian Chereches under the RH.CHER moniker. The cerebral 'Gwen' beings with liquid synths and gloopy sounds, dry hits and kicks and vocal swirls that infuse the whole thing with eerie soul. Giegling main man Edward brings a little more low-end heft to his remix, then 'Zero' gets more wobbly and busy with hiccuping sounds, swaggering drum rhythms and icy hi-hats all sure to sound huge at DC10 this summer. Cabanne remixes with a deft touch that keeps the silky minimal flowing going but with more edge.

Let It Play (dub take)
Review: The 11th release on German label Retrospect keeps things direct and danceable, filtering retro references through a crisp contemporary lens. The A-side's '9Teen' offers a warped, electro-leaning house cut with driving drums and a hypnotic loop sensibility-funky and functional without overreaching. On the flip, 'Let It Play' leans into acid-flecked warmth, layering nostalgic synths over a bumping, classic groove. The 'Dub Take' pares things down, stretching the textures into a moodier, more restrained version fit for later in the night. As with previous instalments from this vinyl-only series, the focus here is on reshaping the 70s, 80s and 90s-less pastiche, more pressure. No frills, no fuss, just solid tools for selectors.

Review: Swedish producer Purl's Stillpoint was originally released in 2015 via Silent Season, a label known for its handcrafted, small-batch editions. Quickly selling out, it has since resonated with listeners like surface ripples on water, redounding to fans calling on a new vinyl pressing. In conjunction with another PURL crowdfunding campaign, we're now firmly re-poised to take in this wash of ambient rerubs again, relishing them like monsoons on baked skin. From Moshimoss' strange dub inflections to Ecovillage's 'Land Of Dreams' revisit, every track here on this CD edition is a depth-swill of ambiance.

Review: With Pattern Gardening, London-after-Leeds imprint Wisdom Teeth yank out an extra gnasher we didn't know we had. As has always been the case, label heads Facta and K-Lone could be said to have curated and curetted a new compilation from the joint dentist's chair, exacting a 22-track root canal with periodontal precision, nearly doubling the size of their V/A ambit since 2024's Club Moss. But on this selective six-track sampler for wax, we've only a further sanding down of a much larger minimal, micro and tech house selection; here's gummy textures and maxillary moods by Polygonia, rRoxymore, Lurka, Sub Basics, and newcomer Jichael Mackson. Clarity and sound design are top priorities, as is the ideal of whitened teeth flashed by the poolside. Snappy, Rhodesy, watery.

Colors In The Rain
Drama Major
Review: Paris-based artist Alex infuses his latest 12" with emotional clarity and cinematic weight, charting two personal chapters across a vivid stylistic spectrum. 'Colors in the Rain' unfolds slowly, stretching over nine minutes with plush chords, detuned synth spirals and muted percussion - evoking a kind of romantic unease that teeters between beauty and disorientation. It's club-ready but drenched in feeling, moving with the pacing of a memory. On the flip, 'Drama Major' leans further into a kind of pop-noir introspection: melodies rise, fragment, then reform with aching insistence over blown-out kicks and heavy low-end. Mastered at Dubplates & Mastering and distributed by Yoyaku, the record is technically pristine, but its emotional core is what lingers. Club music, yes, but made from the same raw material as heartbreak. Alex doesn't just score his own past here but offers a blueprint for others to make sense of theirs.

Review: Having spent the formative years of his career delivering dusty deep house cuts and hazy techno jams as Samuel, Sam Smith has really hit his stride since donning the Ploy alias at the tail end of the last decade. Here he takes time out from releasing on his own Deaf Test imprint and pal Batu's Timedance outlet to deliver his first outing on Ryan Elliot's Faith Beat imprint. He begins in full-throttle, UKG-influenced mode on 'Flirt' - all warped bass, skippy drums and glassy-eyed musical motifs - before opting for a more bumpin', sample-heavy sound on the sweat-soaked joy of 'Woman (Thank You)'. Over on the flip, Smith charges between the big room, Junior Vasquez-influenced tribal house heaviness of 'Love Song', the shoulder-swinging UKG flex of 'I Need You', and the immersive dark house psychedelia of 'Prayer Hands'.

Side-A, 'X Trak 1', delivers an epic journey of fast, dark techno that pulsates with energy, perfect for the dancefloor. The track's transcendent melody echoes the spirit of classic rave nights, creating a rich atmosphere that is both intense and deep. Side 2, 'X Trak 2', adds big chord stabs and a stomping rhythm, offering a more driving and forceful techno experience. The track's power and energy shine through, as it channels the same minimalist yet emotional vibe that made this sound so iconic. This reissue celebrates a hidden gem that has gained cult status over time.

The beatless 'Sluder Dub' is coated in heavy fog and static with conscious vocal musings and the roomiest of chords landing with great drama and tons of echo. On the flip is another analogue sound that features buffed metal dub chords, classic effects and a shapeshifting ambient hiss. It's dramatic despite being such a minimal piece.

From opening piano house illuminations ('It's Too Dark'), bringing a vocal sample-heavy, Strictly Rhythm steeze, through to 'It's Over', a baritone jackin' soul uplifter of a bittersweet tonality, we're impressed from the jump. Review: It's ten up for Ira James's so-far-so-superb Vessel Recordings Group label as the duo of Nonfiction and Kid Enigma step up for a fresh new single. 'Make It Look Good' is an instant house classic with all the key elements nailed: the drums are deep but driving, while the percussion adds texture and bite. And who better to add some further layers of house authenticity than the one and only Chicago don DJ Sneak. First up he goes raw and loop as you would expect, then dubs things out with his second offering. Another doozy from this imprint.

Review: This low-key repress offers a clean update of a record long out of circulation, with three deep cuts newly edited and remastered for 45 RPM. 'Memorandum', previously heard at Giegling events, opens with slow-moving pads and a narrow rhythmic range, relying on subtle modulation rather than arrangement shifts. 'Semper' continues with more drive i a stripped-back exercise in low-end pulse and restraint, built around clipped percussion and minimal harmonic information. The B-side features the edit of 'Mountain021.1', a long-circulating favourite that trades in delay-heavy loops and soft saturation, keeping the groove linear and open-ended. The new master preserves the original's softness without dulling its detail. It's not flashy, but it's durable i functional material that wears its age lightly.

'Echo Ridge', which also marks his debut on Lisbon label Satya, is therefore a long-awaited return to wax. He begins in confident mood with 'Ministrone', a fine fusion of lolloping tech-house grooves, spacey electronics and deep house flourishes, before delivering a chunkier and more bass-heavy slab of trippy tech-house with oddball samples aplenty ('Echo Ridge'). Over on side B, 'Mod Squad' is smooth, squelchy, quietly funky and delightfully off-kilter, while 'Snares Don't Care' is a more hypnotic, spaced-out and bass-heavy affair that's perfect for those "locked in" early morning moments.

The Acid Test
Review: Acid tests, in a scientific context, refer to metallurgic processes whereby the chemical composition of metals are analysed in order to determine their makeup. We can't place exactly when the term was co-opted by artists of the acid techno movement, but we can certainly attest to this acid test's besting of several other lesser litmuses in the micro-genre. ITWS have found a gem in Ilario Liburni, a mainstay of the Italian audio-alchemic underground: 'I Don't Tip' and 'The Acid Test' provide twin minimal acid, with psychedelic ad-libs sure to make even Timothy Leary blush, while isotopes from TIJN and The Wizzard heighten the base compounds' corrosive intensities. A well assayed assault on the ears, well suited for those hazarding another lysergic dabble.

Kebab Traume - "Mindlock"
Review: The third instalment in the Extrasensorial Catalog redshifts the optometer to late-night focus mode, letting four distinct tracks through to quell the more restless fervours of clublife. Dani Labb leads with 'Rin Raje', a fierce, tightly-wound cut laced with pummelling percussion and shadowy intensity, primed for those momenta when the room tips into the surreal. Niki IL B's 'Monte Moggio' follows with an inward pulse, while the flip hears Ludovic's 'Vitesse, Argent, Sexe (5am Mix)' swell with hedonistic tension, as libidinal hydraulics overtip to the point of breaking the pipe job, before'Mindlock' by Kebab Traume closes things on a note of disconcerting elegance.

Silver Lines
Review: Cologne's Jonathan Kaspar has a rare talent for making techno feel emotional without sacrificing power. On this latest pair, he brings the same intensity and balance you'd expect from someone fully in command of his sound i a producer with roots in Germany's fertile minimal scene, but an ear turned towards something more transcendent. 'Yah' is an absolute hypnosis engine, with spectral sirens gliding above steadily rolling percussion. The track breaks and bends but never falls apart i there's a sense of near-chaos that's tightly held in place by Kaspar's meticulous control. On the flip, 'Silver Lines' arrives like a whisper before slicing the calm wide open. A swelling filter turns a simple synth sequence into something emotionally urgent, anchoring the track's shift from lull to lockdown. Kaspar, like a certain Vegas-showman r&b titan, knows how to be theatrical without losing himself i and here, it shows.

Wistful
Review: The veteran French producer with over 15 years in the game and over 30 EPs to his credit, returns with a stunning five-track EP that effortlessly bridges generations of club music. Side-A kicks off with 'Mantrax', a sultry slice of tech house that coils around a hypnotic, late-night groove that is futuristic yet dripping with allure. It's followed by 'Freakish', a deep house cut that smolders beneath the surface, exuding a restrained funk and subtle emotion that invites slow-burn dancefloor introspection. Flip the record and the mood deepens. 'Mush Vitamina' finds the producer blurring lines between deep house and trance, crafting a swirling, warm roller that feels like a sunrise set distilled into six minutes. Then comes 'I'm Ready', a loving nod to early 90s rave culture with its punchy drums and retro-futurist synth work. It's not pastiche but reverent, alive and impeccably produced. Finally, 'Wistful' offers a gentle release, a dreamy liquid d&b number that floats on airy pads and clipped breaks, evoking emotional comedowns and nostalgic after-hours memories. This is a record made by someone who's lived through the evolution of these sounds. Old heads will recognise the mastery and care, while new listeners will be drawn in by the timeless quality of the production. It's a love letter to the underground that is intimate, groovy and genre-fluid without losing its dancefloor roots.

Review: We're very much into this 10 x 10" series from Berlin-based label Sushitech as part of its celebrations of 20 years in the game. It is serving up carefully dug-out delights from the treasured vaults of vital London tech house outfit Housey Doingz, and next up is a long-lost and unreleased delight recorded with the legendary voice of house music, Robert Owens, originally recorded over two decades ago. They have aged well and 'Put It All Behind Me' is sure to become an instant new/old modern house classic. As well as the original which channels the vibes of New Day, a dub comes on the flip.

Review: 'A Few & Far Between' is an ongoing, multi-part reissue series from the cultured folks at Sushitech as part of the label's 20th birthday celebrations. It features music by pioneering London tech house collective Housey Doingz which has been pulled from their archives and remastered for the occasion. his volume features the much sought-after and timeless 'Without You' which is a perfect example of how this outfit blended the soul of house with the drive of techno into something both physical yet emotive, all driven by 303 basslines. Review: Sushitech's celebration of the superb London tech house collective Housey Doingz continues as part of their own 20th anniversary year. This time they again dig into the archives to reissue a remastered version of 'Fonki' which is yet another hard-to-find Housey Doingz original that first came on Surreal. It's a perfectly dubbed-out sound with plump kicks and cavernous sub-bass but does not lack any bite and drive, which is why it is so loved by the heads. Flip it over for an ever more dubby dub version. Another vital pick-up for OG tech house fans.
