A Sides Volume 3.3
Cat: DC 1423. Rel: 05 Aug 15
Marco Bailey - "Don't You Want Me" (7:07)
Roberto Capuano - "Flashback" (6:32)
Victor Calderone - "Requiem" (6:42)
Ian O'Donovan - "The Border" (7:43)
Review: Adam Beyer's Drumcode imprint has for around 15 years been the go-to label for peak time, up front techno on the harder side of things; and this is more of the same! Who better to start proceedings than Belgium's Marco Bailey throwing down a right stomper in the form of "Don't You Want Me" while Italy's Roberto Capuano gives us "Flashback", its infectious melody hypnotises you while its beat pummels you. New York City legend Victor Calderone serves up "Requiem" which is more minimal in presentation, working a vocal loop over a nice bass stab and those harsh, metallic snares. Finally Ian O'Donovan gives us "The Border" with its epic soaring strings, bleeping melody, dark stabs and funky bassline getting more on a progressive/tech house tip.

A Sides Vol 10 Vinyl Five Of Five
Alan Fitzpatrick - "Rochus" (6:11)
Reset Robot - "Distant" (6:29)
Patrik Berg - "Activated" (6:30)
Lilly Palmer - "Amnesie" (6:25)
Review: The fifth and final edition in Drumcode's 10th volume of the A Sides series features four undisputed heavyweights on the global scene, all contributing some typically austere expressions in techno. We Are The Brave chief Alan Fitzpatrick kicks things off with the peak time onslaught of 'Rochus', all steely rhythm patterns and seething Reese throughout, then more rave energy awaits you with label staple Reset Robot's thriller 'Distant'. On the flip, Cologne's Patrik Berg (Terminal M) contributes the hypnotic and locomotive acid flashback of 'Activated' and rising Dutch DJ Lilly Palmer will have you trancing out under the strobe lights with the warehouse techno epic 'Amnesie'.

Mad World
Mad World (12")
Cat: DC 232. Rel: 26 Jan 21
Mad World (6:20)
System Alert (6:58)
Headquarter (6:46)
Review: There is no bigger label in the business techno world than Drumcode, and one of the CEos of the sound has long been Italian Luigi Madonna. He links up with Roberto Capuano for a trio of hard hitting cuts that are desperate to be played in huge warehouses as soon as the lockdown is lifted. 'Mad World' is up first with its slapping drums and frazzled hits. 'System Alert' brings big alarm sound and wall rattling kick drums and 'Headquarter' closes down with a dystopian mood, eye watering kick drum pressure and plenty of techno darkness.

Resistor EP

Resistor
Pylon
Review: Through his Raudive alias Oliver Ho has caused a very serious stir over the last few months. He has released some seriously heavyweight material on labels such as Music Man, Poker Flat, Klang, We Are and Podium as well as some killer remixes for the likes of Figure and Pocket. He really is one of the producers of the moment and this amazing 2 tracker 'Resistor EP', for the leviathan that is Drumcode will further cement that solid reputation.

Orbit Connection
Cat: DC 227. Rel: 18 Aug 20
Connection (6:10)
Orbit (6:06)
Review: Having previously operated on labels renowned for pushing a more underground or left-of-centre take on techno (think Kompakt Extra and Ellum Audio, for starters), Raxon has finally been given a chance to shine on techno's most commercially successful imprint, Drumcode. As you'd expect given the label's trademark big room sound, opener "Connection" is a little bolder than some of the Ehyptian's previous work, with foreboding, undulating bass, robotic bleeps and raw, rushing, intergalactic stabs helping to create a genuine sense of rapid forward movement. Flipside "Orbit" is equally as twisted in its own way, with wonky noises and thumping beats being contrasted by a fluttering, tech-house style lead line.

Confession (6:50)
Jurema (6:26)
Omen (5:51)
Review: Victor Ruiz returns with his signature brand of trancelike progressive house. 'Beirut' is a love letter to the picturesque capital of Lebanon, and manifests as a psychic kaleidoscopic dirge, its production maximalized to convey a sense of slow-burning urgency. Harder techno sounds are checked off on 'Confession', which contains an outstretched prayer recording, and the subsequent 'Jurema' and 'Omen', the latter of which opens out caverns of atmos for your pleasure.

Freedom EP
Cat: DC 225. Rel: 08 Jul 20
Freedom (6:32)
Illusions (7:02)
Senses (7:40)
Existence (6:21)
Review: Last year Victor Ruiz hit the headlines by signing to Drumcode - ample reward for a producer who had spent almost a decade building up his reputation via releases on a string of credible underground imprints. The Brazilian's second EP for the Swedish picks up where its predecessor left off, with Ruiz offering up a string of wonderfully weighty, full-throttle techno stompers tailor made for massive rooms and gargantuan festival stages. Our picks of a strong bunch include the bold bass and razor-sharp riffs of opener "Freedom", the more melodic, warm and sunny loop techno roller "Senses", and the buzzing, constantly rising techno/trance fusion of glimmering closing cut "Existence". If you dig Drumcode's rigidly defined brand of big room techno, you need this in your bag.

A Sides Vol 10 Vinyl Three Of Five
Cat: DC 2353. Rel: 09 Mar 21
Victor Ruiz - "Love Story" (7:44)
Ilija Djokovic - "Equilibrium" (6:33)
Veerus - "I Know" (6:59)
Review: Adam Beyer's esteemed Drumcode imprint continues on with the ever reliable A Sides series, and we're now up to Vol 10 - the third of a five part vinyl series. The first side belongs to Victor Ruiz's expression in peak time dancefloor drama called 'Love Story' where a breathtaking female vocals plays centre stage alongside a snarling Reese bassline and typically tough as nails techno rhythms. On the flip, more warehouse style aesthetics await on Ilija Djokovic's adrenalised 'Equilibrium' which will no doubt have the punters trancing out under the strobe light, as well as Veerus' euphoric main room offering 'I Know' closing out an impressive package.

Bloom
Bloom (12")
Cat: DC 290. Rel: 31 Oct 23
Bloom (6:43)
Contrast (5:48)
Review: It is a testament to Adam Beyer's enduring love for techno that he continues to serve up choice cuts from his long-running and influential Drumcode label on vinyl. He looks to the talents of Victor Ruiz and Modea for this new two-track 12". Firstly the pair hook up for 'Bloom', a cavernous techno sound that sweeps dancefloors off its feet and floats them amongst subtly uplifting chords while the drums toll on. There are epic melodic overtones to the flip side track 'Contrast,' too. This one will get heads held high, hands in the air and crowds fully taken in with its celebratory atmosphere - until the monstrous drums and acid arrive, that is.
