Review: Dave Clarke's Red Series remains a vital benchmark in the evolution of UK techno. Released between 1993 and 1996, the three-volume run even managed to brush the UK top 40 back in the good old days when anything felt possible. Tracks like 'Wisdom To The Wise' will forever be etched in the make up of techno, and for very good reason. Now the whole series is being given a lavish reissue treatment which takes in all the original releases along with additional discs of rare, archival tracks and remixes, all bundled up in a box with a booklet and autographed by the Baron himself.

Review: The Hartnoll Brothers have decided to remaster and reissue their eponymous 1991 debut album - frequently referred to as 'The Green' album for obvious reasons. Amongst the numerous editions is this delicious box set, which compliments the fantastic original album (stretched across two slabs of wax), with a slipmat, a 60-page hardback book of photos and fresh liner notes, and an additional double-album of rarities and unreleased cuts from the period. It's this latter item, which includes B-sides, non-album singles (hello 'Satan') and sought-after remixes (Sasha's legendary version of 'Midnight' and the barely known 'Rhyme and Reason' take on 'Satan'), which makes the box set so alluring to fans. Basically, it's the ultimate edition of a British dance classic.

Notes: MOOER has unveiled its latest effect pedal innovation, the MVP1 AUTUNER vocal processor. Unlike most of MOOER's products, this pedal is designed primarily for use with vocals, offering precise pitch correction and exceptional vocal enhancement features. However, MOOER hasn't forgotten about its primary audience, so AUTUNER still provides features that will interest guitarists.

Due to the pedal's primary focus on vocals, the device includes several features specifically designed for microphone usage. This includes XLR input and output, in addition to support for 48V phantom power, ensuring that the pedal supports both dynamic and condenser microphones. However, AUTUNER also includes standard 1/4" guitar inputs and outputs, along with convenient footswitch control to switch between mixed or individual signals.

The pitch correction features behind AUTUNER are highly versatile. With an LED button, users can choose between flat, warm, and bright vocal tones, each indicated by a different colour. Whilst the pitch correction features of the pedal are limited only to vocals, these delay and reverb modules ensure that the pedal has plenty of dedicated features to offer MOOER's guitarist fanbase.

As is common with MOOER products, AUTUNER features a wide range of control mechanisms. In addition to the left footswitch's dual functionality, the right footswitch also acts as a bypass for the pitch correction and effects, whilst still ensuring the tone processing remains active. The pedal's tonal enhancements can then be fully bypassed with the 'flat' tone option.

Review: American singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen is about as big a music star as there could possible be. It all began in January 1973 when the legendary rocker dropped his debut album, Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ which is now back in print in several different formats as a "hybrid" remastered version that brings together both regular and "super audio" versions. It's a still superb album that laid out The Boss's sonic vision and was noted by Rolling Stone critic Lester Bangs for being dexterous and on point socially. Bluesy rockers, semi-acoustic treats, funky workouts and plenty more all feature on this limited edition 180 gram audiophile vinyl.

Notes: Module A-101-8 is a 8-stage phase shifter which uses light-sensitive resistors (LDR) and is a replica of the Compact Phasing A manufactured by the company Schulte in the seventies. The actual phasing circuit is identical to the historic model. Only the illumination control of the LDRs is different: the A-101-8 uses LEDs to illuminate the LDRs, the historic model used incandescent miniature lamps. And the A-101-8 has no built-in LFO but can be controlled by any external control voltage source (e.g. LFO, ADSR, random, Theremin, ribbon controller, sequencer, midi). The phasing offset (i.e. the base value for the phase shifting) and the modulation depth of the external control signal can be adjusted separately. The Compact Phasing A had no offset control but only a depth control for the built-in LFO. Feedback and mixing ratio of the output signal are set by two controls. The audio input is equipped with an attenuator. The module has two audio outputs available (same as the historic model) and a visual display of the phase shifting.

The module has some peculiarities (same as the historic model):

The input signal is processed at first by a pre-stage which outputs a "modified" input signal (*). This signal is not processed by the phase shift stages but is affected by the feedback setting. Only when feedback is set to zero this signal is identical to the input signal. Otherwise it contains feedback components.

This signal is output on socket Out 2.

When both output sockets Out 1 and Out 2 are used as stereo channels one obtains a spatial stereo sound effect.

The same signals is also used for the CCW position of the mix control. With mix control fully CCW the unmodified signal appears only if the feedback control is set to zero. Otherwise it contains feedback components.

The historic model had two audio inputs: one 5-pin DIN socket and a 1/4" jack socket. The DIN socket was intended for high-level line signals. When the 1/4" jack socket was used the amplification of the pre-stage increased by about 100. The 1/4" jack socket was intended for low level signals (e.g. electric guitars or microphones). For this feature the A-101-8 has an internal jumper that can be used to increase the amplification. As long as the module is used within the A-100 system usually the lower amplification is used to avoid distortion.

The 8 photo resistors and LEDs are assembled within an small lighproof box. In addition the pc boards are made of lighproof black material to avoid interfering light from other modules or the bus board.

Notes: 'Nude' super-elliptical stylus of just 7.6 x 18 microns (0.3 x 0.7 mil), cut and polished from a single homogeneous piece of diamond. Review: While they might be best known for one mega-hit, Pete Burns' Dead Or Alive were much more than 'You Spin Me Round'. Emerging just ahead of the new romantics era, their embrace of synth-pop collided with an antagonistic spirit rooted in punk. At 180 tracks spread over 27 discs, there's a lot to chew on - much more than just a one-hit wonder.

Review: Five decades plus and onwards, the monumental influence of Deep Purple's crowning glory endures. Richie Blackmore's legendary hard rockers had many a career highlight, but Machine Head is surely the landmark which set a new precedent for heaviness in rock music, not least for the all-time classic 'Smoke On The Water'. Notes: An ultra-compact 10HP VC filter with bags of personality. Camber can be treated as a subtle, non-intrusive sound design tool, or something much more lively.

Camber is designed to be a fun, tactile filter with a small footprint. It's sound is neutral enough for basic filtering without a fuss, with a much more aggressive tone available using high resonance settings in three-pole mode.

Filter Core

The core of the filter is based on a state variable topology using 2164 VCAs and 1% tolerance integrating capacitors. Resonance and feedback control is provided by the fantastic circuit design originally by Neil Johnson "Voltage Controlled 3-Pole State Variable Filter" recently made available in Sound Semiconductor documentation.

Operation

Camber is switchable between low pass and high pass responses with one pole (6dB) and three pole (18dB) flavours of each. It has full CV control of both cutoff frequency and resonance amount. The input is DC-coupled allowing LFO and CV signals to be routed through the filter. The filter will also act as a simple oscillator producing a clean sinusoidal signal with the resonance control turned *almost fully clockwise, and no signal at the audio input. Dialling in the resonance so that it is just under the point of self-oscillation allows the filter to be "Pinged" by sending gate signals to the audio input. This is useful for tuned percussion sounds and FX.

The Andy Summers Walking on the Moon is an analogue flanger with a simple but powerful control set of RATE, RANGE, and COLOR. RATE sets the speed of modulation which ranges from slow, smooth filter sweeps to jittering vibrato. RANGE controls how narrow or wide the effect sweeps into the bass frequency range. The COLOR control effects the intensity of the flanger effect from subtle chorusing effects to classic jet woosh sounds. These three controls interact to create a wide breath of modulation effects.

Additionally, the Walking on the Moon includes a FILTER MATRIX which disengages the LFO from the flanger circuit, freezing the flanger giving a fixed filter effect, which can add chime or metallic overtones to your sound without the movement of a traditional modulation pedal. A DRY output allows you to split your dry signal from the effected signal.

Notes: HN VCF is a state variable filter having 12 db Low Pass, 12 dB High Pass, 6 dB Band Pass plus 18 db Low Pass marked as "LP!", because it has extra drive. Notes: MOOER burst onto the music products scene in 2010 and has been impressing guitarists ever since. However, the company has expanded it's horizons this year with its VP vocal processing pedal series. The MVP2 Harmonier is a powerful example of this - it's a versatile and innovative vocal processor pedal designed to elevate both vocal and guitar performance, offering tonal precision, creativity, and convenience in one compact pedal.

At its core, the pedal offers a versatile pitch harmonizer effect. The 'Key' dial allows users to choose to harmonize their important with any note in the chromatic scale, with the 'Sharp' LED button being used to select sharp notes. Once chosen, the 'Mode' dial facilitates further customization, offering 11 different harmony modes that control the harmony's interval. This includes all classic intervals such as octaves, fifths, and thirds.

The 'Level' dial adjusts the volume of the harmonizer effect, but Harmonier offers even further tonal flexibility thanks to its reverb function. Users can press and hold the 'Sharp' button while rotating the 'Level' dial, which allows them to adjust the volume of the pedal's internal reverb module. The pedal also offers tone modes: flat, warm, and bright. These can be controlled by activating the pedal's unique 'hidden mode' and using the 'sharp' button.

'Hidden mode' is activated by pressing and holding both of the pedal's footswitches, but this is just one example of Harmonier's unique control system. The left footswitch can be held to save effect presets, and pressed to scroll through 7 preset slots. The right footswitch can be pressed to turn on the pedal's effects, pressed again to isolate the reverb, and held to turn off all effects except for the tone setting.

Unlike most of MOOER's pedal offerings, Harmonier supports both XLR and 1/4" inputs and outputs. These can be used in 'mixed mode' by holding the right footswitch whilst plugging in the power supply or repeating this action again to switch to 'individual mode', which isolates the signals to their given ports.

Alongside its fundamental functionalities, the pedal features a gain dial, a 48V phantom power switch designed for internal microphone amplification, a grounding switch, and a DC 9V 500mA power input. Take a DJ-mixer-style combined high-pass and low-pass filter, cram it into Eurorack and you have the DJ VCF. A simple formula, but one perfected by Erica's attention to detail, with CV control and adjustable resonance.

Supplier's Notes:
As its name suggests, the Erica Synths Black DJ VCF provides sound treatment functionality typically found on DJ decks - it is fully open when the cutoff knob is set to 12:00. When turned counter-clockwise, lowpass filtering is applied and when turned clockwise, highpass filtering is applied. The filter also has a nice-sounding resonance parameter. This module provides hands-on control over the sound during the performance, as well as unconventional timbre modulations that are hard to achieve with conventional state variable filters. The Black DJ VCF is a fully analogue design and consists of two VCFs - highpass and lowpass in series and the filter management is done by complex CV routing.

CUTOFF
This is the main control of the module - manual cutoff frequency adjustment with a twist - it's fully open when the cutoff knob is set to 12:00. When turned counter-clockwise, lowpass filtering is applied and when turned clockwise, highpass filtering is initiated
