Review: Romanian producer BRYZ returns with three immersive cuts for Yecad, a label that's steadily positioning itself among minimal's most reliable. A fixture in Bucharest's underground, BRYZ has released on Tzinah, Esente and Storytellers, and here he leans into his signature hypnotic detail. 'Arcane' sets the tone on the A-side: tight, swung drums guide a stream of hazy pads, fragmented voices, and dubby trails. 'Calida' flips the mood slightly-more tactile and groove-led, it centres on a burbling synth motif and deft guitar flicks, making space for a subtly rising arrangement. Closing track 'Iridian' deepens things once again, layering panned percussion and flickering synth work over a sleek bassline. It's heady, club-ready minimalism, but with a welcome softness-a producer dialled into his zone.

Review: With Pattern Gardening, London-after-Leeds imprint Wisdom Teeth yank out an extra gnasher we didn't know we had. As has always been the case, label heads Facta and K-Lone could be said to have curated and curetted a new compilation from the joint dentist's chair, exacting a 22-track root canal with periodontal precision, nearly doubling the size of their V/A ambit since 2024's Club Moss. But on this selective six-track sampler for wax, we've only a further sanding down of a much larger minimal, micro and tech house selection; here's gummy textures and maxillary moods by Polygonia, rRoxymore, Lurka, Sub Basics, and newcomer Jichael Mackson. Clarity and sound design are top priorities, as is the ideal of whitened teeth flashed by the poolside. Snappy, Rhodesy, watery.

Review: Dubfound’s return is tightly coiled and quietly hallucinatory, tracing crisp patterns through fogged rhythm. ‘Coocooz’ jitters with nervous energy, all micro-detail and negative space, while ‘Feef’ drips in slippery percussion and flattened bass throb. ‘Low’ works a more reduced hypnosis — less hook, more repetition — but it’s the Zendid remix that lands hardest, pulling warm subs and twitchy delay into a loose-limbed swing. As ever with VRNT, the mood sits somewhere between Romanian reduction and Pacific Northwest psychedelia with a vinyl-only tactility that deepens the slipstream. Now based in Moldova, Dubfound has long operated just outside the minimal mainstream, building out a catalogue on labels like Sleep Is Commercial, Nervmusic and Rawax. His own imprints — Swoon, Nurum and Zimotik — favour analogue feel and no-frills groove, often bordering on the abstract. This release fits that mould: heads-down, refined and deceptively emotional in its restraint.

'Mescaline' is much more busy with abstract pops and squeaks, synth modulations and an urgent, tightly programmed minimal tech groove that you would expect of this label. It's high-class music for mind and body.

Review: Sub Basics's Temple Of Sound is back with new music from Henry Greenleaf who appears under his new moniker, Greenteeth. It is a project he is clearly using to cook up smart back room minimal sounds going off this evidence: 'Loxton' is a slow motion and prowling groove but one with deep, menacing bass and nice louche percussion. 'Jungle Love' is another subversive sound with a snaking rhythm and dubby low ends, dusty hi hats and late night mischief. Last of, 'On & On & On' plays out over all of the flipside with shuffling drums that are light and airy and topped with wispy drones. It's delightfully hypnotic.

Review: Small Great Things boss Luca Olivotto rekindles the label with 'It's Too Dark', a nyctophobic dimmer switch made up of four delicious techno floor-fillers. From opening piano house illuminations ('It's Too Dark'), bringing a vocal sample-heavy, Strictly Rhythm steeze, through to 'It's Over', a baritone jackin' soul uplifter of a bittersweet tonality, we're impressed from the jump. The B brings 'I Found You', an ecstatic piano cascade of synthetic choice, and 'See Thru', a watery glam-funk-disco hosedown with a slight, prodding French touch.

Review: After years of exploration and experimentation, a new wave of artists from the Andes is now gaining some deserved global recognition. One such artist is Guillermo aka Existencia Pasajera, whose work has been shaped in southern Chile and so smartly reflects the region's newly emerging creative depth. This new release captures his fluid, expressive keyboard style and opens with the trippy and psychedelic loops of 'Haunted House' before 'The Brujo' gets more dark and menacing. The EP also features a remix by Minus legend Magda. Her label debut blends acid, stripped back rhythm and heady grooves, while closing the release is Map.ache of the Giegling collective, whose minimalist approach offers a meditative counterpoint.

Review: Rhadoo has long been in a class of his own when it comes to crafting intricately detailed minimal. Despite doing so for decades, he still finds freshness in his particular milieu, as he does again here on Secret Society, teaming up with multi-discipliniary artist and sound wizard Traian Chereches under the RH.CHER moniker. The cerebral 'Gwen' beings with liquid synths and gloopy sounds, dry hits and kicks and vocal swirls that infuse the whole thing with eerie soul. Giegling main man Edward brings a little more low-end heft to his remix, then 'Zero' gets more wobbly and busy with hiccuping sounds, swaggering drum rhythms and icy hi-hats all sure to sound huge at DC10 this summer. Cabanne remixes with a deft touch that keeps the silky minimal flowing going but with more edge.

Review: Hours on the Fabric floor under Villalobos's spell steered UK-based Bowyer toward a sound rooted in groove, subtlety and hypnosis. That fascination filters through on this first entry in his new Contraptions series-a sub-label built for oddball, finely wrought rhythm experiments. 'Onithopter' staggers forward with slurred modulation and lurching FX as if its groove is learning to walk while 'Expresso Espress' channels percussive mania through caffeinated bounce and twitchy micro-detail. The B-side goes deeper: 'Onspiredd Moo' flattens broken textures into a humid low-end smear while 'Follow The Clues' unfurls as a glitched detective theme for the late-night heads. Inventive but floor-conscious, it captures a producer bending minimal house into woozy, crooked new shapes, all held together by taut percussion.

Review: Back in the mid 2000s, at the height of his minimal-era fame, German-based producer Ricardo Villalobos released a now highly sought-after compilation of his early singles from the late 1990s, Salvador. Rawax has wisely decided to reissue it on wax, stretching the material across a trio of 12" singles. This first volume features a trio of must-have early Villalobos treats: the Playhouse style micro-house-meets-wonky deep house epic 'Lazer@Present' (here renamed 'Lazer Present'); 1998's 'Unflug', where his now infamous obsession with the percussion sounds of his native Chile combines with spacey synths and heavy grooves; and 1999's proto-minimal hypnotism, the superb (and seriously wayward) 'Tempura'.

Review: Returning to Purple Print after contributing one to their second V/A, 'Dreaming In A Shell', Zenk links arms with Ted Amber for a new, formative four-track release. 'Nairobi Market' and its corresponding remix by Amber retread an apparent recent jaunt to Kenya, where a fantastical, mercantile mirage is said to have informed on the cyborg textures you hear here. 'Juicy Breakfast' takes and uses the dried viands bought on said market, amounting to a nice morning metal repast of nuts, bolts, and gluons: fatty acids, rivet potpourri, slippery background sound design. 'Memesis' titularly invokes the goddess of divine retribution but reduces her to an edible meme, as restless, posthuman vocalisations are heard to mutter and chirrup between snap-up beats.

Review: You can hear the years in this one. ‘Village Whispers’ unfurls with the soft hiss of tape and misted chord echoes, each phrase placed with the care of someone who’s spent a lifetime listening for silence to answer back. ‘Noble Booth’ is heavier, full of low-end weight and time-stretched decay — a memory half-recalled through fogged glass. Gubatz, who once conjured trance in rural North Germany and later acid on Cologne’s fringes, returns here to dub techno not as genre but as method — patient, porous, ambient by instinct. Review: Paris-based artist Alex infuses his latest 12" with emotional clarity and cinematic weight, charting two personal chapters across a vivid stylistic spectrum. 'Colors in the Rain' unfolds slowly, stretching over nine minutes with plush chords, detuned synth spirals and muted percussion - evoking a kind of romantic unease that teeters between beauty and disorientation. It's club-ready but drenched in feeling, moving with the pacing of a memory. On the flip, 'Drama Major' leans further into a kind of pop-noir introspection: melodies rise, fragment, then reform with aching insistence over blown-out kicks and heavy low-end. Mastered at Dubplates & Mastering and distributed by Yoyaku, the record is technically pristine, but its emotional core is what lingers. Club music, yes, but made from the same raw material as heartbreak. Alex doesn't just score his own past here but offers a blueprint for others to make sense of theirs.

Spain’s Oven Sound are now on their third EP, pin-rolling and topping off an early spate of releases intended to document the emerging sounds of the label’s local Valencia scene. Taking up the A is newcomer TSO with ‘Inject’ and 2024 solo signee Sueezo with ‘Oneiric Pace'; the latter's ‘Blasphemy’ EP we also much enjoyed last year. Both tracks serve a cunning introduction, with injured acids and wily perc movements down below: it’s only improved upon by Varis’ ‘T4’, which weirdens things to stuttery, vocal-fractious proportions, while N&O’s ‘Moonwalk Talks’ is the obscurest of the lot, never settling beyond its structurally intense support of pithy drums and off-beam nanopunk bloops.

Side-A begins with 'Verloren', a downtempo journey built around a soft house rhythm, rich pads and a tender piano motif that gives it a gentle emotional core. Isolee's remix takes the track to the dancefloor, introducing a dubby pulse and more pronounced groove while preserving the original's lush atmosphere. Side-b leans into deeper territory. Review: Only Music Matters hits release number ten with another anonymous artist serving up a trio of tasteful minimal and tech rollers that have already been supported by Dubfire and Priku. 'AAA001A' is a wicked mix of synthetic and organic sound - a heartfelt male vocal and new age flutes, sci-fi melodies and bubbly drums all coalesce into a hypnotic roller, then 'BBB001B' picks up the pace with a smattering of silvery toms and snares over dubby beats. Last of all, 'BBB002B' brings some colour next to trippy and abstract synths and whispered vocals that are stitched into a silky and ever-evolving rhythm. Classy stuff.

Review: Newcastle-born producer Edmondson delivers another understated gem on Noire & Blanche, weaving together dreamlike house textures with a sharp sense of mood and place. 'Ladywell Limon' opens with buoyant chords and rolling percussion, evoking hazy South London mornings, while 'Every Night I Dream of Catching Trains' drifts through a fog of breakbeats and dubbed-out pads. His ear for atmosphere is matched by a tight control of rhythm - never overplaying, always gliding. 'Frutiger Aero' is the standout, built on a slippery bassline that harks back to early 00s minimal, before giving way to the silken melancholy of 'Azura', which features a ghostly spoken vocal from Mahyar Rahmantalab Vaghei. Closer 'Juno's Theme' brings the EP full circle, all hushed detail and warm reverb. There's nothing flashy here - just five tracks of deeply confident, soft-spoken house music that rewards repeated listens and confirms Edmondson's place in the new UK deep set.

Review: This low-key repress offers a clean update of a record long out of circulation, with three deep cuts newly edited and remastered for 45 RPM. 'Memorandum', previously heard at Giegling events, opens with slow-moving pads and a narrow rhythmic range, relying on subtle modulation rather than arrangement shifts. 'Semper' continues with more drive i a stripped-back exercise in low-end pulse and restraint, built around clipped percussion and minimal harmonic information. The B-side features the edit of 'Mountain021.1', a long-circulating favourite that trades in delay-heavy loops and soft saturation, keeping the groove linear and open-ended. The new master preserves the original's softness without dulling its detail. It's not flashy, but it's durable i functional material that wears its age lightly.

With promo text likening fine progressive house movements to even finer knitwear, this is a delicate tracery of progressive minimal sendoffs, best among them 'Magneto' and 'Feel The Same'.

Review: Bristol's Boulderhead has been making some serious moves on the likes of Sex Tapes From Mars, Worm and Rhythm Section and now shows yet another subtly different side to his sound on the cultured Mindhelmet. 'Feelin' OK' has a phased and fragment vocal that marbles the fat-assed dub tech groove as abstract synth daubs add the colour. 'I Gotta Work' (feat Overnite Oats) is another synthetic sound with whispered vocals and a future tech groove while 'Red Purple Pink' (feat Overnite Oats) rides on a fleshy, subby low end with gooey synths hanging in the air above. A trio of mind melting tech outings on the flip including the bubbly 'Late Nite Bopper' make this a must-cop for late night sessions with discerning heads.

Review: Eddie Richards' vaults are surely some of the best there can be for tech house heads. The Brit was there on the ground, helping to shape the earliest incarnations of the newly emerging genre back in the 90s and early 00s and few have bettered it since. Proof comes from this reissue of a pair of remastered beauties on new label likethis. 'Destiny' has never before been on wax and is a silky, synth-laced sound with crisp drum funk and then the B-side jam 'The Soul' is a dusty and stripped-back mix of drums, hits, swirling pads and irresistibly loopy grooves.

Review: French label Laboratoire Osbolete have carefully built a space in which artists are let the title of sound alchemists, transmuting ferrous sonic metals into precious bezoars. Trajano is their latest metal-mogrifier to join their arcane ranks, and here they manifest the brilliant 'Formulas' EP: another demo of alchemical audial abilities audited afore our ears. 'Pipeta' brings a pipettes' worth of volatile liquid compound to our tympanic lobes, while 'In The Lab' and 'Formulas' leads us down an increasingly obsessive path, as we join Trajano in synthesising the ultimate lucky liquid, with reactive chemistries of ripply synth swirls and distant film dialogue.

Review: Acid tests, in a scientific context, refer to metallurgic processes whereby the chemical composition of metals are analysed in order to determine their makeup. We can't place exactly when the term was co-opted by artists of the acid techno movement, but we can certainly attest to this acid test's besting of several other lesser litmuses in the micro-genre. ITWS have found a gem in Ilario Liburni, a mainstay of the Italian audio-alchemic underground: 'I Don't Tip' and 'The Acid Test' provide twin minimal acid, with psychedelic ad-libs sure to make even Timothy Leary blush, while isotopes from TIJN and The Wizzard heighten the base compounds' corrosive intensities. A well assayed assault on the ears, well suited for those hazarding another lysergic dabble.
