Review: The long-lost gem YU Disko Expres, by Igor Savin and Orkestar Stanka Selaka - both Croatian / Yugoslavian studio dons, the latter at one point serving as visiting tutor at Berklee College Of Music, and an electronic music studio founder at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall - returns with its first official reissue, fully restituted from the original reels. Its 1979 first editors, Jugoton, couldn’t have foreseen its later status as a “highly sought-after” album, one which perhaps resultantly remained nearly impossible to find in good condition since. With an all-star lineup of Yugoslavian musicians, including trumpeter Stanko Selak and bassist Miljenko Prohaska, Yu Disko Expres remains a coal-fired viaduct scaler of impossible speed and panache. Essential for fans of jazz-disco, rare grooves, and, on the off chance, Yugoslavian music history.

Review: A proud proclamation is made in the name of love, with Linda Jo Rizzo's 'You're My First, You're My Last'. The New Yorker and Italo disco star had emigrated twice through careers in fashion and nutrition before branching out into music, where she joined The Flirts, and after which time she went solo in 1985. Her second ever EP after her EMI debut 'Fly Me High' first saw a ZYX Music release and alluded nominally to the Barry White hit of almost the same name. From first to last, this song deals in the romantic transition from imagistic to deepened styles of loving, where, at first, "for me, love was like a candy store", and afterwards, the idea of commitment became much more palatable, between which times Rizzo's love object had stayed loyal all along.

Review: Wax Digits hits release number five with a tight and tidy two-tracker from the late veteran Robert Ouimet who passed a couple of years ago. Before then he cooked up these gems with his pal and production partner Dave Godin. They are being released as a tribute to the memory of Ouimet and a fine one they are too. 'Plenty' has a raw groove and big chords with jangling guitars adding hints of melancholy that counter the big stabs. Soulful vocals are a great finishing touch then 'Funky Together' is more loose and strident with big horns leading the way under psyched-out chords. Two quality party starters.

Review: Wilfully naive, disco-soul edit editions from Tito Wun, the uptempo alias of Cologne-based Cool Bap producer and Groove Attack Record Store owner Twit One. This three-track journey will have you loose and lytic in no time: Wun's production extrudes sensitively across a tactful edit of Ecstasy, Passion & Pain's 'Touch & Go', not long before dropping into a driven-loopier version of an obscurer sample source, with 'Home'. We're just as hard-pressed to source the UK rap sample used in 'Raise Dat', but its celeritous confusion with conga hits and jovial ragtimey background moods prove a hit.

Now he debuts on Rocksteady Disco with more of his signature organic and soulful sounds. This one kicks off with 'G Class' which is a peak-time house pumper with lovely liquid bass and sunny strings. 'Fierro Viejo' is more twisted with rumbling bass and a peppering of percussion that will twist dancers inside out. 'Giente Que' is an arp-fuelled Italo-inflected banger and last of all is the more slow, seductive and absorbing sound of Snake Pit' for late-night lovers. Another fine EP from Tommaso.

Review: Disco don The Reflex is back with a couple of signature reworks, and this time it is two giants of the disco world that are in the spotlight. First up, disco innovator Patrice Rushen's 'Time Will Tell' gets flipped into a paced, seductive disco sound with tambourines and big horns, funky drums and a nice falsetto vocal all getting you going. On the flip, Nubiyan Twist's 'Lights Out feat Nile Rodgers' slows things down and gets a little more saucy with noodling guitars, golden chords and sliding hi-hats all encouraging you to cut loose. Both of these are timeless revisions.

Review: Colombia-based duo and Bogota scene-players Julian Sanza (who you may know as part of 2020 Soundsystem) and Lafrench Toast have decided to add their own spin to a stone cold classic pop tune. With this one they manage to flip the iconic 'Thriller' into a nu-disco world. The drums are funky, the synths are explosive and full of cosmic colour and plenty of the original motifs remain to ensure that crowds will appreciate the work done. 'We Shine So Bright' on the flip is another sunny sound with nice breezy pads and mid tempo drum funk. Two useful and playful cuts.

Review: Saint Paul has long since proven himself as a fine curator of dusty beats across the deeper house and disco spectrum. He is part of the Moonrise Hill Material crew and now lands on Saint Wax with his first outing of the year. 'The Chosen One' brims with joy from the shimmering chords and vocal chops while bumpy drums get you moving. 'Pour L'Amour Du G-Funk (69 La Trik)' is a funky jam with smeared pads and excitable synths then 'Bay Disco Orkestra' brings a percussive twist and retro disco vibe. The trio of flip-side cuts explored slower, more soulful deep house and jazzy grooves that overflow with musicality, while a Gledd remix brings a lovely Latin skip and shuffle to 'Don't Hold Back Da Groove'.

This one becomes a more mellow and laidback sound that offer a different take on an original by L'Eclair. The bass is warm and melodic, the drums loveably lazy and the keys jazzy and pensive. Super stuff for lo-fi lovers.

Review: Neapolitan funk maestro Mystic Jungle returns with a new LP less than a year after the dreamy Words of Love with more astrally-charged electro/boogie/disco type wonderment. Dario di Pace's third full-length has been quietly brewing for years, shaped by studio shutdowns and shifts in location i and that patchwork journey adds a certain character to the gorgeously technicolour music on show. It's perhaps his most eclectic and free-flowing release yet: a bright, hazy blend of styles that feels both loose and deeply considered. On the dancefloor end, tracks like 'Secrets' and 'Some Lovin'' burst with disco grooves, searing guitars, call-and-response vocals and sultry sax lines. Elsewhere, 'Innervision' and 'Twilight' lean into lovers rock and wavy neon-dub pop, full of yearning, shimmer and otherworldly flourishes.
