Sample & Hold, Track & Hold, Gated Slew, Clock & Noise generator - silver, 12HP
Notes: A real powerhouse module that takes up only 12 HP of rack space. It can generate random and pseudo random control voltages, staircase waveforms, deliberate aliasing of audio signals, portamento type effects, adjustable audio range noise and has many other uses too.

It can be switched between Sample & Hold or Track & Hold modes, and the unique "Restrict" control affects the way the hold output changes with respect to the current input level and previously held output level. With the control fully off the unit behaves just like any other S/H, but at fully clockwise the output is restricted to move by only a small amount after each new sample. The output will still have the same range as the input, but will need more hold commands to get there. This versatile Sample and Hold circuit was designed by Tony Allgood, and is built under licence from Oakley Sound.

The Sample Hold & Slew module also includes a very well featured Slew generator, which includes a Gated Slew function. It can be used independently or chained with the S&H module. There is also an inbuilt analogue Noise generator, which is normalised to the input of the Sample and Hold section, and there are both regular and clipped Noise outputs - the Clipped Noise is particularly useful with the sample and hold section, as it is weighted to produce higher random voltages. Both Noise outputs are fed through an internal "Noise Colour" control - at centre position it allows the noise through unfiltered, turning the control anti-clockwise introduces low pass filtering of the Noise, and rotating it clockwise introduces high pass filtering. The Noise source itself is based on an analogue band gap shunt regulator configured in avalanche mode, and it generates white noise with a gradual roll off above 8kHz. It is a little "grainier" in character than the noise from our MiniMod Glide & Noise module (which uses a reverse biased transistor as a noise source), so is a useful compliment to this module as it does not generate exactly the same sounding Noise

High-quality dual linear VCA with mixing functionalities
Notes: Audiophile Circuits League VC Dual Amp contains two fully discrete voltage controllable amplifiers with linear characteristic. It is based on a new circuit design which delivers unheard clarity of sound. To this day there is no other VCA using this special technique!

The module offers a very low harmonic distortion in the whole linear gain range, no crossover distortion and no overshoots nor ringing. Furthermore, it has a very high dynamic range which provides a lot of headroom. Nexus for effects pedals & Eurorack effects modules
Notes: Are your effects chains suffering from radioactive decay? The Transmutron allows you to combine pedals (and Eurorack effects) within its sonic reactor to create new and exciting compounds! Different results can be achieved using one of three modes: Fission (crossover filter), Fusion (crossfader), and Fallout (resonant wide-notch filter).

In the primary mode, Fission, the signal from your guitar, bass, synth, or drum machine is split into separate frequency bands, sent simultaneously to different effects, and then recombined to a single output (or two separate outputs). The Splitpoint parameter can be controlled manually or with an expression pedal, and simultaneously injected with a control voltage (CV) source for extremely dynamic reactions!

In Fusion mode, the Splitpoint instead acts as a pre-FX level crossfader, rather than splitting the signal into separate bands. This allows for less extreme blends, especially when modulating. In the third mode, Fallout, a resonant wide-notch filter is applied to both pre-FX channel signals, cutting a hole and creating a phasing-wah effect when using an expression pedal or LFO to sweep the Splitpoint back and forth.

To further shape the signals sent to your effects, the Transmutron is equipped with dedicated hi and low cut filters. In Fission and Fallout modes, the cutoff frequencies of these filters also define the end-to-end sweepable range of the Splitpoint parameter and its centre frequency. The filters have selectable slopes of 12, 24, or 48 db/oct, which also affects the crossover filter, and greatly enhances the resonance of the wide-notch filter. If further separation of the parallel FX channels is needed, a dedicated phase switch is on-hand.

Both FX channels have two sets of sends and returns: 1/4-in for guitar pedals and line-level effects, and 3.5mm for Eurorack level processing. For each channel, the 1/4-in and 3.5mm FX loops can be used simultaneously, as they are in series (3.5mm then 1/4-in). The FX sends are half-normalled so they can be used as buffered copies without affecting the returns. Additionally, the 3.5mm FX loops for each channel can be independently switched to pedal/line-level using internal dip switches, which allows for seamless integration with the Boredbrain Patchulator 8000.

How complex the reaction is up to you! From simple tone shaping using only a couple effects, to interconnected combinations of pedals and Eurorack modulation madness, the Transmutron is just the tool you need to reactivate your effects!

- Common control section with two CV inputs and manual control (these inputs and controls affect the frequency of all four units)
- Sum outputs for triangle and rectangle with red/yellow LED displays
- Optional ultra-low frequency mode: for this a negative voltage can be applied via a jumper internally to the CV2 input of each unit and the common section (i.e. a negative voltage is normalled to the socket CV2 in question). Then the CV2 - - Attenuator control works as a negative frequency control (i.e. turning up this control lowers the frequency). Herewith LFO periods up to about one hour (or even more) are possible.
- Optional CV bus access via jumper (i.e. the module can pick up the CV from the A-100 bus, e.g. generated by a Midi/CV or USB/CV interface A-190-x or a bus access module A-185-1/2), if the jumper is installed the bus CV affects all four units as the bus CV is added to the CV generated by the common control section
- Typ. frequency range: < 0.001 Hz (~ one hour, LFO mode with ultra-low option) ... 15 kHz (VCO mode with installed frequency range jumpers for the manual frequency controls)
- Heat-up time: ~ 15 minutes (required to heat-up the main circuit by the affixed oven)

The module was planned mainly as a quad VCLFO. But we added a range switch (nothing but a switch for two different capacitors) so that even audio frequencies are possible and the module can be used as VCO with some restrictions too. Because of the closeness of the main circuitry (i.e. four VCO cores within less ~ 1 square millimetre) the oscillators may lock if the frequencies are very close to each other and the VCO frequencies interact marginally. If a high quality quad VCO is required the A-111-4 is recommended as this module has four separate VCO circuits available.

The reset circuitry is optimized for the LFO mode. As it takes some time to discharge the oscillator capacitor the discharge time had to be chosen so that the capacitor is fully discharged in LFO mode. In the high range (where a much smaller capacitor is used) this will cause a zero state duration in the 0.3 ms range if the oscillator is synced (during this time the capacitor is shortened for discharge).
The control scale of the inputs "CV1" is about 1V/octave. To improve the behaviour in the VCO mode a tempco circuit is used to keep the temperature of the exponential converter at a fixed temperature (similar to the tempco option of the DIY SYNTH). That way the frequency of the VCOs (and even the VCLFOs) is nearly independent from the environment temperature. But the accuracy (1V/octave scale and temperature compensation) is not as precise as for the dedicated VCOs A-110 and A-111-1.

Flexible overdrive/compression pedal designed in collaboration with Billy Sheehan
Notes: When Billy Sheehan first turned to EBS to create his signature pedal, he needed to capture the essence of his sound in a pedal to serve him when he could not bring his entire rig. It turned out so great it has been a significant part of his main setup ever since and served thousands of other bass players as well. Now it's time for the ultimate version!

"This pedal is a distillate of several important principles in the signal chain for bass. Compression, distortion, tone-shaping and blending all together", Billy said when EBS released his first signature pedal in 2013. The original concept is still the same, but with more features added along the way.

Since the pedal splits the signal into two parallel paths - one clean and one with distortion - it becomes as if running the sound through two different bass rigs at the same time. The two Clean and Drive Level controls decides how you set the mix and melt the paths together. For a tighter, more defined sound you can engage the built-in compressor. Threshold settings for the compressor can be adjusted inside.

A Phase Inverter switch brings back more low-end to the drive channel at times. The Boost footswitch kicks up the drive gain a notch when needed.

The new and major feature of the Ultimate version is the Hi or Lo Frequency Filter. This switch moves the whole frequency spectrum of the Tone filter up or down, to extend the capabilities of the pedal.

The Hi setting adds a whole new palette of distortion sounds that was not possible to create with previous versions of the pedal.

The individual Effect Loops for each channel can be used to colour the channels individually with external effects. The Clean Loop jack can also be used as a clean input if you have a bass that features dual outputs. It sounds great if you run the lows through the Clean Loop jack while the mids/highs go through the main input, which leaves the lows untouched and only the higher frequencies treated by the drive.

This version has inherited all the features from the Deluxe version (including the possibility to swap the drive chip without the need of soldering). But the palette of sounds you can create is expanded by the new Hi or Lo frequency filter to make it complete.

Analogue VCO focused on all aspects of modulation - 12HP
Notes: The OSC1 from Future Sound Systems presents a voltage-controlled analogue oscillator with a few features unexpected of a basic oscillator, with a particular focus on covering all bases of signal modulation. Once triangle, sinusoidal and pulse waveforms are derived from its sawtooth core, each waveform is passed through a VCA. The outputs from these VCAs are then summed at the Mix output, which can be switched between 2- and 4-quadrant-multiplication modes. These two QM modes allow for a plethora of amplitude modulation effects to be achieved. Level controls for each waveform dictate both static level, but also depth of modulation through careful design of the control summation. Each individual waveform output is taken pre-VCA for maximum patching flexibility.

Shape modulation of the triangular, sinusoidal and pulse waveforms is also available. Both the triangular and sinusoidal waveshapes can be skewed forward or backward into ramp-like shapes, whilst shaping the pulse wave gives standard pulsewidth modulation.

Frequency modulation is available in both Linear and Exponential modes. The OSC1 also tracks to 1V/Octave over four octaves in its audible (HF) range, but can also be used as a low frequency oscillator in LF mode.

A Sync input allows for the OSC1 to be reset by an external signal. A rising edge will reset the sawtooth wave to its peak, from which it descends. The Inject input, meanwhile, allows for external signals to interfere with the sawtooth core. This allows for intermodulation-type effects to be produced, and opens new realms of chaotic oscillations.

Scales is an 8hp dual-channel note quantizer and step sequencer. Fundamentally, it takes an input voltage, quantizes it to notes in a user-defined scale, and sends that quantized voltage to an output, where you can use it as a melodic pitch source for oscillators or any other module that expects to see discreet note values at its input.

Each track features numerous independent parameters that govern its playback independently of the other tracks. Specifically:

Tracks can be programmed by entering active steps on the grid or tapped in live as the sequence is moving. Tracks can be selected and modified in real time as the sequence plays. A select button allows you to directly access each track (and each page of 16 steps within that track) directly through Steppy's intuitive multifunction buttons array.

Tracks can be individually muted and unmuted, and a special performance mode (called "Loopy") enables you to touch any two gate steps and instantly create a performance that loops between those steps.

Track patterns can be cleared without clearing its playback parameters, and all track patterns (along with their individual playback and performance parameters) can be saved as a preset to one of eight internal memory slots.

Bass line generator with a rhythmic chord section
Notes: The Arpopone from LepLoop is a little synth-voice for generating a melody or bass line and a chord section at the same time. It is based on analog ramp dividers of which each one generates a voltage ramp starting from a master clock that can be internal or external.

Trig1 and Trig2 potentiometers set the number of clock pulses.

With the Trig Mix switch it is possible to select between a single trigger (1 or 2) or both (1+2) to advance the scales.

The Scale Step potentiometer sets the number of steps for the two scale generators.
In the mixer section, the two scales are summed together to obtain a more complex pattern. The amount of each scale can be set by two controls and can be positive (ascending scale) or negative (descending scale).

With the VCO Pitch knob, the melody can be transposed while maintaining the same interval between notes.

The note generated by the VCO is fed to a chain of dividers to obtain four sub harmonics of the original note. One of these is the bass section with its own filter and envelope, the other three form the chord section with their envelope.

The two envelope sections are identical, both have a selector for different trigger sources:

Trig1 & Trig2: the envelope starts at the flash of the green LED (bass) or yellow LED (chord)
SB1 & SB2: the envelope starts at the first step of Scale1 (bass) or Scale2 (chord)
White & Blue: the envelope follows the intensity of the white LED (bass) or the blue LED (chord). Except for this setting the envelope length is set by the two controls Bass ENV and Chord ENV. Additionally, an EXT CV input allows to provide an external envelope.
The bass channel is passed through a resonant low-pass filter with Cutoff and Resonance control.

Finally the Bass and Chord channels are mixed together. The output level is set by the Bass LEV and Chord LEV controls.

14HP Eurorack digital filter
Notes: What is a Comb Filter? It is a digital filter where the input signal is mixed with a slightly delayed version of the input signal. You won't hear it as some kind of an echo, as this delay is very short (40ms at max). But the mixing process creates a number of equally spaced peaks and holes in the frequency spectrum, that make it look like the teeth of a comb. That's where the name 'Comb Filter' comes from.

Comb filters are typically used to make chorus and flanger style effects. These effects are created by modulating the delay time. With longer and relatively fast modulated delays you receive a chorus effect. With short to very short slowly modulated delays, combined with some feedback you'll get the typical sound of a flanger unit.

So, the most interesting parameter in this is the delay time. That determines the frequency spacing of the comb teeth. So that's why there's a CV control for it. The typical chorus and flanger effects are made by modulating the delay time with a triangle LFO. So there's a triangle LFO onboard the module, with speed control. If you don't enter any CV in the CV1 connector, it is normalled to this internal LFO to make typical effects. CV2 is normalled to the reverse signal of CV1, to make Modor's typical wide stereo effects, just as on the NF-1 synthesizer. But of course, you can enter your own CV signals in there: LFO's, Envelopes or some rhythmically undulating spacy voltage signals...

The centre big DELAY control sets the delay time, the DEPTH control sets the amount of CV modulation of the delay time. DEPTH can go positive and negative.

The MIX control sets the dry/wet mix. The FEEDBACK controls the amount of feedback. It can be set both positive and negative. The SPEED control sets the pace of the internal triangle LFO.

Complex oscillation module - 22HP
Notes: The Noisy Oscillator module is an oscillator that mixes two signals: a 'regular' wave (sawtooth/square/triangle) and a 'tonal noisy' wave. This adds a special noisy layer over the sound, that adds 'air', grit or dirt, depending on the combinations you make. The MOD parameter acts on the noisy waveforms:

- Sonar Noise: a white noise filtered by a resonant bandpass filter, with 1V/oct tracking of the filter frequency. The MOD parameter controls the resonance.
- Wind Noise: white noise filtered by a comb filter, with 1V/oct tracking of the base frequency (delay). The MOD parameter controls a 6dB/oct hipass filter.
- Arcade Noise: LFSR noise source as can be found on the SID soundchips (Commodore) or Sega Arcade games. The MOD parameter controls again a 6dB/oct hipass filter.

The noisy wave can be set equal, or 1 or 2 octaves above the regular wave.

The module has two voices, with their own set of CV and output connectors. This can be used to play in a full 2-voice polyphony, or in a 2-voice unison. The outputs can be separate, using both output connectors, or mixed, using only the connector of the second voice.

Next to the 1V/oct pitch CV, the module offers CV control over pitch (FM), the MOD parameter and the sound level:

- FM CV: pitch control normalled to 0V, attenuated with the FM knob (+ and -). This allows for Frequency Modulation up to the lower audio range. It's of course a digital module, so higher frequencies can start inducing aliasing and digital artefacts.
- MOD CV: CV control for the MOD parameter, normalled to 0V and attenuated with the CV AMT knob (+ and -).
- LEVEL CV: CV control for the sound volume, normalled to 7.5V. With this CV control you can omit an external VCA stage if you want.

The CV signals of the second voice (upper row of connectors) are always normalled to the signal of the first voice (lower row), so you can use a single LFO for some FM vibrato or tremolo on both voices, for example. Only the V/oct connector of the second voice is normalled to the first voice with an extra addition of a fixed voltage that can be set using a trimmer at the backside of the module. This way you can use the 2 voices to play in unison with a fixed pitch separation you can set on the backside.

Notes: Pigtronix Resotron is an analogue filter that brings the sound of 70's keyboard synthesizers to the world of envelope pedals for guitar, bass and beyond. The filter at the heart of the Resotron is based on the SSM2040 chip found in the legendary Prophet 5 and Octave CAT synthesizers. This 24db/octave, state-variable filter provides the full gamut of familiar envelope filter sounds with UP and DOWN sweeping modes, and a sensitivity control to dial in the response of the effect based on how hard you play.

In addition to these vintage-correct filter tones, the Resotron pushes the envelope pedal concept to a whole new level by using an analogue pitch-tracking system to move the cutoff frequency of the filter up and down. The pitch-following filter effect found in the Resotron moves around based on the notes you play instead of how hard you play. The attack time and rate of filter motion can be adjusted - using the GLIDE knob - to dial in how long it takes for the cutoff to travel between pitches.

"The pitch-following effect found in the Resotron is analogous to the "key-follow" function found on the original Minimoog and many other classic analogue keyboards," says Pigtronix president David Koltai. "Using our all-analogue pitch-tracking circuit to control cutoff frequency, the Resotron delivers mind-blowing filter motion for guitar players. I've dreamt of making this pedal for years, and it's finally here."

The Resotron has the ability to operate in Low Pass, Band Pass or High Pass modes. Each of these filter voices has a distinctive character that can be manipulated by adjusting the PEAK knob, progressively feeding the filter back upon itself to increase the resonance (or "Q") of the filter, right up to the point of self-oscillation. A push-button OSCILLATE function allows you to go even further - turning the Resotron into an analogue synthesizer pedal that follows both the pitch and dynamics of your playing. The synthesizer sounds created by the Resotron can be radically altered by switching between the LPF, BPF and HPF modes. This allows users to access waveforms that range from subtle voice emulations to bombastic, aggressive lead sounds, as well as ultra-smooth sub bass tones.

Before the pedal's input signal hits the Resotron's filter, it passes through an optical compression stage derived from the Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone pedal. The increased volume and punch from this compressor can then be mixed into the audio signal using the BLEND control - without affecting the SENSITIVITY of the envelope. Resotron accepts active CV and passive TRS expression pedal inputs for foot-controlled filter sweeps and outboard modulation, which is mixed in parallel with the on-board pitch-following and amplitude tracking systems.
